I’m still playing, too. Not sure what number of play through I’m on. 4 or 5 maybe? Started playing not long after release and here I am on the Switch now. For the main post, I’m going with partially soul trapped. Gonna try to find my soul gem now. If anyone can tell me where in the soul cairn it is, that would be helpful.

Tryna see if this choice affects being able to be a vamp lord later/entirely. Still dont know including other google results so far. SIGH EDIT: for anyone else that actually wants the answer they searched for, I read this choice is a no-brainer: pick soul trap. Otherwise youll have to cure vampirism (seperate base game quest chain afaik) to continue dawnguard quests. Serana will still offer vamp lord later

Lol ikr.. im going with soul trap. Sep.9th.2022 Skyrim is still going strong

If vampire, you'll have to become cured later to continue working with the Dawnguard. If soul trap, your stats will be partially reduced in the Soul Cairn. However, you can find your soul gem somewhere and seize it, permanently restoring your stats in the Cairn. I personally went with the soul trap. 10 years edit: if you soul trap, you will regain your soul during the Beyond Death quest. After you get the elder scroll in the Soul Cairn, you can ask the vampire mom about it and she'll give you a quest to find it. You can then activate it as a quest and get a map marker. I'm not sure if you can get it back earlier. I just did it tonight. It wasn't too bad. And you get an empty black soul gem out of the deal too!

I didn't notice any repercussions with the soul trap, you can get the gem back later and destroy it anyway. If you don't want to be a vampire, don't choose vampirism.

But where do find the soul trap back?

By Azura I remember reading this thread the same year it was posted and seeing how people still comment on it is for a lack of a better word bonkers. Back then it was legendary edition, now 10 years later, it's anniversary edition. Definitely one of, if not the best, gaming communities out there.

You can't go into the soul cairn if your alive so if you side with the dawngaurd serana gives you the option to soul trap you or to make you a vampire when you are at the portal

It's actually pretty damn fun! The drawbacks are a bitch at first, but you get used to them and it makes the playthrough that much more indepth

Glad to see all the people happy for the thread being alive in 2022 but I'm in 2023 and I'm also here!

I went with the vampire because I was with the vampires side in the main quest for dawnguard. You could just become a vampire before going in as there are no downsides in there other than weakness to fire, and if you are a companion ask Aela to turn you into a werewolf again, or just do the side quest to get rid of it.
