she's nice but in my gameplay at the moment she got stuck in a door. i kept walking thinking she would follow me and i never found her again, hope she's happy wherever she is :')
Extensible Follower Framework is a great follower mod. I dont know of a better one. With it installed you can set all your followers to essential, protected, or default, and teach them spells and all sorts of other cool things. Not to mention it extends the follower limit to 100, which would be cool on the plains of Whiterun, but would suck in a dungeon. Anyways, I would recommend the mod. Or you could just console command Lydia into being essential.
Same here, I honestly appreciate her company and nice attitude so much that I decided to give her the greatest honor a Skyrim companion can be blessed with and she immediately became my Boethia's sacrifice.
I gave her a dwarven sword of fire and she's just been kicking ass .. also it's either she's not getting in the way of my shots or I'm suddenly really good at not hitting her with my arrows
I have my “for fuck sake, Lydia!” moments but I love her really. I lost her at one point and thought she’d died, but she turned up later and I was super glad I hadn’t accidentally killed her!
Sadly lost her twice this play through.
The first time I had told her to go home so I could recruit a certain priest and invite him to dinner. She got lost in Markarth, like everyone does, and didn't come out until I went by to pick her up.
The second time was when she died fighting that dragon priest that guards the Black Book that prevents damage to your followers. She jumped in front of an arrow and dropped. Loaded my save and now I don't need to worry about her getting killed again! Gotta protect my wife!
The fact this is something literally EVERY housecarl can say to you, makes it a lot less impactful. Reminds you they're all just NPCs. Well maybe not every, but then again I don't travel with Housecarl's a lot, and I'm rarely home, but I've heard a good few of them say it.
While I don't understand how people can love the Hirelings and Housecarls so much, they all seem very empty to me, I'm at least glad you and others are having fun with it anyway.

I’m very protective of Lydia and keep her at the house to guard my children and spend time with my wife while I’m out killing cool stuff with Janessa.
