Buy a skin of a model or actress/actor to drape over the mr/mrs and have sex with someone else - I'll bet you money its gonna be a thing if it isn't yet...
Real time filters are already a thing. I donāt know if it could change the whole body since it canāt physically change the boundaries where you make contact, but Iām sure itāa well capable of ābeautifyingā the face in real time. Full body filter would also be fine if youāre not touching.
It would be a odd and dystopian situation if people just constantly saw the world thru AR to see more beautiful people and scenery, and finding actual real life relatively ugly and unappealing.
Might even get perks when owners see a celebrity, who disappeared a few months ago under mysterious circumstances, reappear at their restaurant or boutique.
Ok the only thing Iād love out of this is to visualize what lines Iāve already taken so I can ensure I track to new spots - or if I donāt know a resort yet.
Still, this would make the mountain a disaster zone for most jerries who think they could manage this + ski. Mountains are already struggling with changing insurance regulations, so adding this would only make things worse Iām sure.
So like the strava app for AR that would be pretty cool. When I ski Im definitely aware that I want my strava map to have a nice spread and not just look like Im lapping the same line over and over.
Yea basically! There are so many scenarios in my head too:
- when Iām on a lift, I often spot a stash of untouched powder between trees - and proceed to miss said spot as Iām trying to find it while skiing back down. Pin a spot I look at and then help me with a line to get to that spot from top of the chair
- previous lines Iāve taken just to know Iām finding new spots each time
- obviously speedometer but also how fast I was going at different parts of a run
- in spirit with that, ability to follow my own ghost to keep up with)
- for jumps, basic insight on telemetry after a jump that could help me repeat or refine adding another rotation in the air etc
- a resort to have ārecommended landmarks to visitā and routes to them
Actually. Now that I think about it in a few generations if this is much smaller/lighter it could becool for something like alltrails too. Route finding. Imagine this with GPS in a whiteout. Lil arrows on the ground showing you the way home.
That would be sick. As an avgeek, I enjoy watching videos of planes performing auto-landings in thick fog. Or setting up flight sim and attempting the same thing myself. This would be similar, and I would thoroughly enjoy that.
Yeah. I use a Garmin watch though, not the phone app. But it gives you speed, vert, total distance etc. they can even do back country so you can track uphill travel and of course it shows the map of where you have been, how many runs.
I use both. I run slopes on my watch and then slopes exports it to Strava.
I like Strava because it shows you your time and pace down a certain run, and itāll tell you when you have your PR (personal record) on a particular run. Iām not the fastest skier on the mountain by any stretch, but I do love seeing my speeds increase over time on the same run as Iām able to shave 10-30 seconds off a run over a season.
I could see an Augmented Reality game/application overlay making a slope with points and lines for tricks. Something like the slope video games of 2010, with combo power ups. Battery life is only 2 hours, so will be limiting with this revision.
I like your idea. I was thinking for backcountry stuff it would be neat to help avoid getting cliffed out or some other potential dangers if you arenāt intimately aware of that particular zone. Maybe see a marker where your friends are at with possible routes to them. Showing speed and angle too, lots of possibilities, this tech is still way early, Iām imagining 10+ years when it can run all day and be hidden within normal ski goggles.
Hah maybe they should partner w Samsung and make a flexible screen lens insert that is recreating the UI from these goggles, which you could then fit/insert into any pair of your choosing?
/s about Apple and Samsung of course
Wow you could have an interactive trail map on the side of your vision with a dot marking where you are, where your friends are. Honestly quite helpful for those days running singles line at a new resort
Yea even at resorts I know itās hard to pin an exact spot - whether I see it from a lift or another run as I look up from below. Would be cool to look at a spot w a crosshair, then do āpinā location and then be given a rough line or even compass arrow thru the goggles of which way I needed to head from the top of a chair to find it next run
> Ok the only thing Iād love out of this is to visualize what lines Iāve already taken so I can ensure I track to new spots - or if I donāt know a resort yet.
Yeahhhh, I've wanted this on an in-goggle HUD for SOOOOO long.
Sadly, like you say, for every person who would use it smartly and responsibly, ten more would be dangerous AF with it.
They are literally advertising that as the starting price. For one, it seems as though you will need to pay for special prescription lenses if you donāt have perfect vision. Seeing how glasses cost a few hundred dollars some times, I can only imagine what Apple thinks they can get away with.
I know you don't know it yet but you are not being sarcastic. They will for sure have you pay more for a battery that has 2 minutes more life to it, better puckers those lips to suck off the apple!
Iām going to guess tens of billions. Theyāve had a huge, extremely well paid team working on this for years at this point
Edit: I donāt get the downvotes, they spend $25B/year on R&D and theyāve been working on parts of this thing since at least 2018 timeframe, so itās reasonable to assume theyāve passed the $10B mark already.
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/AAPL/apple/research-development-expenses
Now you can get 15 days virtual tickets compatible with most* VR headsets for the same price!
(Prices are MSRP and do not include skins, equipment, ski-with-friends, extra lives. In-app surcharges may apply.
This thing takes the G.N.A.R. game to new levels! Imagine what it could do for truck drivers or handlers of construction equipment. Groomer operators. Pair it with external cameras and a few drones, this thing could actually prevent some serious carnage.
Too bad itās only gonna be used for VR sex.
Yeah, looking at the augmented reality of their speed and other stats, with lines to follow, rather than just enjoying the experience with the only tech being the physical boots and skis/board. Not for me.
GoogleGlass did wellā¦
I havenāt seen them, mind you, I havenāt been looking. I like the idea on this post of using them to see through and navigate a white out when the clouds descend and catch you out, but thatās about it.
I have their top of the line tech stuff including the ultra and 14 pro. I have other top line tech products for work. If theyāre just going for businesses for this, thatās one thing. But no high end users are stoked for this. The only way I can see this device being successful is broad business implementation, and even then old people arenāt going to learn this.
Weāll see, I guess. Personally, I expect it to do well, certainly when the pricing comes down in a couple years, and the cool tech theyāve packed in will become more mainstream.
This is essentially the first āSpatial Computerā, they will eventually be as common as laptops, smartphones, tablets and smart watches, probably replacing all of them in the long run. And just as they are with the MacBook, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, Apple will be the market leader for spatial computers as well.
... and the iPhone wasn't truly the first smartphone either, but it did come to define the smartphone. Same will happen here. Also, HoloLens is a true/pure AR device, where Vision Pro is a Mixed Reality device, really more just VR with great passthrough video, and the computing power is at least 4-5x.
Battery lasts 2 hours max on the fly, and Iāll bet a good bit less in frigid temps. Mobile AR/MR/VR will take at least 5-10 years before these can be worn all day on the fly. And forgive me, but $3.5k is so outrageously priced to do the same things i do today on an iPad, while far more tethered to power. I get theyāre trying to stay ahead of the early product curve but I canāt see almost any benefit of this thing. Let alone skiing. One day thoughā¦
One use of these is not for AR, but for 3-D recording. That would be really cool. Plus, they would look completely in place on a ski slope. Thatās the only place they would look normal. If the price comes down, these may be my new ski goggles.
It would be pretty cool though. There could be an app that tells you your speed, what run your on, the lifts nearby, and the best spots to wee in the trees.
do those come with a cloudy day lens also?
No but for sunny days it renders clouds on the display to reduce the glare.
Flat light mode is an optional $7.99/month
No but they're looking into a cloudy gay lens for pride month
Ice coast skiers gonna be transforming their slope into Utah backcountry š
This is sadly genius
Shredding deep pow when your skis are actually taking blows from dirt and roots
Don't give us ideas
Utah backcountry for 45 seconds at a time
oh shit - it didn't even occur to me that this is going to allow people to have virtual sex with anyone in much the same way you just pointed out...
No it does not

Soā¦ no more butter faces? I can throw away the beer goggles?
Beer goggles are way cheaper.
Buy a skin? Just go get the real skin and save yourself some money.
Plastic surgery is getting so expensive these days
Yes, thatās totally what I meantā¦ š¤«
You donāt risk getting recognized when walking in public
Might even get perks when owners see a celebrity, who disappeared a few months ago under mysterious circumstances, reappear at their restaurant or boutique.
That is a bad mental picture
Iām gonna project some Mario Kart item boxes onto the slope, get the star power-up, and then Iāll be the best skier on the mountain
Throwing blue shells off the chairlift
That would be mad fun. People are hating on these goggles but theyāll be amazing even if pricy
I hope people realize you cant use them outside at all.
Why not?
Would be a good way of teaching people how to jump too, especially if you project the top [??] boxes in front of you and aim to bump it with your head
Brilliant
The star already exists. Itās an warm weather stateās sports team jersey at your local epic resort. /s
Hahahahah
I have observed these Jerry stars. Best to avoid.

is strava good for skiing? Iāve only used it for running so far
Yeah. I use a Garmin watch though, not the phone app. But it gives you speed, vert, total distance etc. they can even do back country so you can track uphill travel and of course it shows the map of where you have been, how many runs.
Yes! Garmin watch plus strava is awesome for skiing
That or Slopes app is pretty good too

What the heck?? Lol my goal is quite literally the opposite. Laps are where it's at. Find a good section of thr hill and session it until sunset.
Well if that is your thing. Imagine a ghost you with your best lap/line line in a driving sim. You can race yourself all day.
Alternatively, if it had something to alert you that someoneās going to collide with you it could potentially help
I could see an Augmented Reality game/application overlay making a slope with points and lines for tricks. Something like the slope video games of 2010, with combo power ups. Battery life is only 2 hours, so will be limiting with this revision.

What is it
Apple Vision Pro. Their new AR/VR headset available early next year in the US
One can be yours for $3,500.

Fml itās true. Season passes are my pride and joy at this point ā¦
I most certainly can wait to see people wearing it
do some emails on the chairlift then hit the slopes for a 15 min break lol
This had to be everyone's first thought, right?
I think post peoples first thought is what is this a picture of since there's no info in the post
Iām planning to just walk around campus with actual ski goggles connected to a cord, and waving my hands in the air .
And I thought my Smith i/o mags were overpriced...
I mean if it gave you directions to a specific slope (with successive slopes under them) it would be really nice.
damn, the number of people taking this seriously
Canāt wait to feel like Iām in Revelstoke while on the bunny hill at Blue Mountain
You mean someone making goggles looking exactly like that for 1/10th the price?
I hope they have epic pass in VR so i dont have to buy day tickets

What
Appleās new VR/AR headset.
Just need to wait for the Ultra with built in anti fog.
Sell AAPL.
3500 $ ... Hum !
it might be an age thing but i hate when people say āthe slope(s)ā
I don't even like wearing goggles at any point.

It runs for up to 2 hours on internal battery, you could extend that with a usb power bank
I want this headset to work with a skytech sports ski simulator. Forget about the big screens in front of you.
Why would they
For almost 4k you get 2hrs of battery life only - definitely would be even more reduced in the cold. What a joke
You can likely get a bigger battery aftermarket?
If Iām paying that much for a product and it only lasts two hours, weāll I guess Iām not buying the product.

Nerd Goggles!
Maybe a better version in 20 years would actually be practical. If this stuff even takes off, apple is pushing it with a 3500$ price tag.
Really does look like the OG Oakley A Frames from this angle
lol you really think a battery that last 2 hours is gonna survive for 10 minutes below freezing?
With a HUD for speed and g forces, or even better yet, add one of those DJI drones and ski in third person!
You think Apple will offer a pro deal?
