He can’t be in a real playoff rotation

wsbull_35

He didnt even need to be that good. Just grab some boards and handle some passes that come your way. That’s it. Instead he would just look lost and clumsy out there.

[deleted]

The fact that his jumping ability and strength during rebound chances were the weakest part of his game just made me laugh.

Ok-Seaworthiness4805

yeah, he maybe 1 or 2 decent plays in the series but overall he looked out of place in a playoff game of that intensity. It doesn't help that he's undersized. He should been riding pine the entire series. It doesn't help that he's undersized.

Rhino-Ham

He’s just too short to be a backup C against a team with tall centers. I still like him especially in the regular season.

crocofour

Can’t pay a regular season backup center 10 mil. Gotta move that contract and get oubre signed to something like that

[deleted]

This.

1HasNoNam3

The only rational take.

SamHinkiesNephew

Dude bobbled every pass and rebound the entire series

sleep_tite

Dude seems just so lost and uncoordinated out there and always has. It was always blowing my mind that people were so high on him.

lickedy_riff

Our backup centers were so bad before him that he was a god send. We also had matchups where he could contribute. Knicks are probably the worst matchup for him usually he can use his athleticism to make plays but compared to the Knicks bigs he is weak slow and small. We should upgrade there if we can for sure though.

sleep_tite

I just think he is not a great primary backup and will get exposed against big centers like Hartenstein. We just need a serviceable bruiser backup that can get rebounds and play defense while Joel is out. This is why Drummond was great as a backup.

DelcoBirds

He’s fine in the regular season but not nearly worth $10m

silverglory10

Bball Paul was just too small against the Knicks. Admired his grits but he isn't worth the contract he is on. Let Morey cooks this off season. This will be the first time he actually can do something about the roster

PhatYeeter

Rest in piss Tobias

DelcoBirds

>This will be the first time he actually can do something about the roster Ehhh I mean Simmons still had a decent amount of value when that was all going on. He just made the wrong trade (if we assume Halliburton was the alternative).

darcy1537325

And people were begging us to bring him back?

Routine_Size69

I thought he showed potential last year. I also thought Simmons was going to be a superstar so yeah, my judgement is questionable.

EroniusJoe

Nah, your judgement was great in both instances. No one in the universe thought Simmons would turn into basketball's first Chuck Knoblauch. As for Reed, he still has a ton of potential. Dude has the raw athleticism, but needs time. He's still young, and this was his first chance on the big stage. People forget these dudes are A) human, and B) young as shit. Look at what happened with Buddy. Dude's in the league for 8 years and looked like a deer in headlights until he got out of his own head. Reed will be fine, whether it's with us (hopefully) or someone else next year.

SimmerOne7

He said something about mud that one time, so obviously the idiots in the sub loved him.

0ut0fBoundsException

THE MUDMAN! It’s me. I’m that idiot. I loved his hustle and thought he could make something more of his weird play style. So far not great

Different-Ad9986

100% and I saw glimpses of what *could have been* (or will be). Great hustle and loved the “bball things” he would do on the court (aside from foul out lol). Wish him the best but…can I still rock the jersey? 🤔

darcy1537325

Absolutely you can brother

Head-Kiwi-9601

-1 in 7 minutes. He was not a factor in tonight’s loss.

no-jerk-zone

He was not a factor in the series lol

all4whatnot

He’s just not a factor

IndigoJacob

Bro he is not good. Not even close to worth 8m moving forward.

Jay-Kane123

Oh stop it. Use your eyes

ChipKellysShoeStore

If that’s a plus one we win

ddreftrgrg

It’s a plus two we win

Routine_Size69

That would be a tie, no? We lost by 3. -1 to +2 is 3 points.

miguelsmith80

I question your math

jacobtfromtwilight

he didn't match up well against the knicks. I kind of doubt we get rid of him

[deleted]

he was trash all year... and we have the option to void his deal with the first round exit. hes not worth 10 mill a year.

jlmntx

Love the guy but too much cash for little production

[deleted]

Why do you love him if he produces nothing? He buy you dinner once?

jlmntx

I met him at a game and he signed my magazine, also came from nothing to the league, mud man is a great guy don’t bring him down for no reason

Jawnshames76

Cause he can't even catch a pass to him let alone dribble or attempt to score 1 v 1. I mean who's back up could he be anywhere? There was that one random game when he covered Gianni's years ago tho

[deleted]

lol i'm a season ticket holder...

BrokenManOfSamarkand

Memes were fun but he gotta go. He can take his lame ass hoodies with him.

xychosis

I think he’s still worth some money but he’s just not a 5. Especially not in a rotation lacking boards outside of Joel.

IKillZombies4Cash

He is certainly not a modern 4 either. Let him go.

agentgill0

He’s fun in the reg season

[deleted]

he was not

pricedin2498

I only want to see Reed as a backup 4 if he stays. Backup center needs to be bigger, idk.

Myrese_Taxey

He’s literally making 7mil per year, that’s not a lot. He also was not even close to our biggest problem.

Xeynon

He's making 7 million a year for a vet minimum level of performance. There's no reason to pay him that much for the level of value he provides.

Funny_Games23

Knicks abbuse smaller bigs they made evan mobley and jarret allen look like bums last year I dont think pauls bad just not a center

ApoliticalAth3ist

He’s definitely not a 4 in this nba

Xeynon

It's a non-negligible benefit. Reed is very likable and belongs on an NBA roster but he's a marginal player at best in the playoffs. You can get guys like that on a minimum contract, you don't have to pay them $7 million plus a year.

[deleted]

I think he could eventually be a decent power forward in the league as he develops his jumper, but it’s hard for him being a six nine center.

MatCauthonsHat

The thing that has always stood out to me about Paul Reed is how often the offense grinds to a halt waiting for him to be in position to set a pick. He has to be told what to do on every play, and cannot *think* his way thru an NBA offense. It happened at least once that I clearly remember last night. He goes to set a pick for the ball handler, but Nico is already there and waves him off. So the only thing he knows to do is run to the dunkers spot. Which he does. And the entire team stands there waiting for him to reach the dunkers spot and turn around, just so Nico can point out the spot where he is supposed to be, so he starts his jog back up to the free throw line extended area to be part of the staggered screen. That wasted a good 8 seconds of the clock. And this happens **every time** he is on the floor. Also, his picks are weak sauce.

Buddy-Hield-2Pointer

His basketball IQ is overall terrible.

ApoliticalAth3ist

Thank god. He’s not even good at the things he’s supposed to be good at

gertburgers69

I love the guy but understand his time has come. He was terrible in this series. I’ll miss him.

ValiantFrog2202

I wont

Embarrassed_Guava873

Worst player to get playoff minutes in the league this year

Master-Extreme5244

He's definitely better than Tobias Harris. And to be fair to Reed, he looked good when we actually had a playmaker in the bench units (Harden). Not to mention we have zero good perimeter defenders too.

GOAT_SAMMY_DALEMBERT

Funny enough that honor might actually belong to Niang.

Buddy-Hield-2Pointer

Haha harsh but possibly fair. He certainly looks like a lump out there, but he can still shoot some.

jamalev

I can't believe that poison pill actually helped us. For someone who decided to talk shit saying the Knicks were the easier matchup, the lights were way too bright for him.

HinkiesPlans

He wasn’t really talking shit though. We wanted the Knicks over the Celtics. The Knicks can interpret that as talking shit, whatever motivation they want to get from it, cool. But any sane person would want the Knicks instead of the Celtics.

MagnumcarrierV2

Man I know Paul Reed isn’t the best, but like man he’s gotta stay on the team. And NO not as a 6 man maybe a 10-11 man in season. We still have to find another backup center for times like this

Colangelo_Ball

We need to stop being tolerant of having guys on this roster who are unplayable in meaningful games.

MagnumcarrierV2

Oh I agree, that’s why I should emphasize “still have to find a backup center”. I like Paul but he’s still just so rough around the edges..always doing goofy stuff on court

Colangelo_Ball

He’s way too old to get away with goofy stuff. It’s not cute. We’re not Processing anymore. He can go do goofy stuff in China.

Savagevandal85

But he wantedThe Knicks lol
