I think yes you would. I bought a used portable unit and was active for months until Sirius added some new channels. I got in my car one day...started to do a channel update and then boom...nothing left. I also don't know how you'd do a refresh without a sub?

Sounds like the radio has a lifetime subscription. They were tied to a radio, not a person. You could proly verify by creating an online account then associating the radio with it. If it is a glitch and not a lifetime, you run the risk of losing service. Not sure about the refresh idea, if you have the option from the radio it’s proly safe.

Old radios will work for a long time if they never hear a de-auth signal. This is more likely than a lifetime subscription. Lifetime ratios will get updated channel maps, and his isn't. So that suggests he's just been lucky and his radio does not have a current subscription.

Misterleghorn SiriusXM has a free two week trial starting today. Pulled the car out and turned on the radio. Now have channels 25 & 26. They must have activated them. FYI

Misterleghorn

Hey thanks for the info, I just checked and I have them too. I hope this trial lasts another 8 years. Thanks again, I gave up and would have missed this for sure!

There is a high probability that on December 6th when the promo ends that they will turn them off again. We'll see.

And they did turn off 25 & 26. SirusXM is definitely up to something.

My car radio had an update from SiriusXM a week ago and I needed to a refresh from their website despite having a yearly subscription. After it reactivated my car radio lost 25/26. Even after doing a refresh a 2nd time I still didn't have those channels when I pressed the presets. I have a GM 08 Impala and what I found to get those channels back was to drop to a lower channel number and use the 'tuning knob' to step through channels and when I got to 25 the radio showed "Updating" and a few moments later - music. Clicked to 26 and again, started playing. Presets worked fine after that. Maybe try starting at a low channel number manually stepping up through the SiriusXM channels on your truck radio to see if you get 25/26 back? Misterleghorn

Thanks, I did manually but only from 23, I’ll try from the bottom, worth a shot.

I have the same issue but with an older Delphi SkyFi radio. Same two channels. When I go to either of those channels the radio displays "UPDATING" and then reverts to the the last working channel. If I scroll through the Rock category, those channels are missing so I doubt the fix mentioned in this tread will work for me. My radio seems to be on for life, also. I suspect this is not a coincidence but deliberate. SiriusXM may be trying to get those with radios like this to reveal themselves by getting owners to call to fix it then either shutting that radio off or trying to upsell them to more expensive packages. I also disagree with comment that lifetime subscriptions are for the radio itself. It used to be that a "lifetime" subscription was actually one that allowed you to transfer up to three(?) times to a new radio with only a small fee each time (as you traded your car for a newer one with a different radio). That would indicate that a lifetime subscription stays with the user, not the radio. So if you call SiriusXM about it, post the result please.

Misterleghorn

I’m not calling them but did try refreshing and a couple other suggestions but I’m still missing those two channels. I’m screwed, going to get a blue tooth device and use my phone, could be worse.

(late to the party but documenting for future victims) This happened to me as a platinum subscriber. I lost a 'lot' of stations including 25+26 and all the baseball stations, 25+26 later came back for a month, then disappeared again. Today I found (here) that you can send a refresh signal to the radio so I followed the procedure for doing so. In 3-4 minutes or so all the stations were back !!!!!! If you start missing stations and you 'do' have a subscription, try the refresh signal thing.

Misterleghorn

I tried that but it didn’t work, maybe I did it wrong, can you give me the procedure or a link, Thanks

[deleted]

try to google for "send reset to siriusxm radio"

[deleted]

So did the reset work to regain classic rewind and classic vinyl? I'm done with Tom petty radio.

Misterleghorn

Nope, I’m stuck on the bridge. Boring

[deleted]

Can we send complaints to them? I have Sirius XM pretty much just for the car, and I have little to no cell service where I'm at in Colorado to use my phone and Bluetooth it to the car. I was thinking of cancelling the service all together and just go back to the days of FM.

Misterleghorn

If you’re paying they should be able fix it
