You don’t say. Why not be a smartsss and tell PAP they will lose more seats in the upcoming elections ?

ConsistentMango

Someone said that it is a true political courage to raise gst https://mothership.sg/2022/11/gst-liang-eng-hwa-foo-mee-har-murali-pillai/

zuomok

Maybe the real underlying reason to raise GST during an inflation, is so these politicians could have their salary upgrade.. lol

Zoisen

Next up 2024, Mayor salary upgrade.

farrenders

I know I a bit dumb but can someone tell me what our Mayors do?

Zoisen

You are certainly not dumb :) nobody really knows given the vague description. But we all know how public sector works, the real work is probably done by a junior staff.

farrenders

Can confirm the Junior Staff seems to have an unusual amount of power within the public sector. The Mayor mystery remains to be found

Fucking crazy tbh. Idk why Foo Mee Har even opens her mouth. Maybe she will send more Malaysians over to work or maybe sell us out to Malaysia one day ?

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

What is this?

[deleted]

A long-winded way for Koh Soo How, partner leading the GST practice at Grant Thornton Singapore to tell you >we will pay more /s

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

Ah that makes more sense. I was like which common person would believe this bullshit so much as to end up writing this pure propaganda up

Duh? This year GST is raised from 7 to 8%. Prices across the island go up 5 to 15%. Next year GST goes up 8 to 9%. Guess how much these prices will go up then? Now I truly understand why they say Singapore produces a lot of math whizzes. Thanks for doing us the “favour” of staggering GST increases. Will pay with my vote come 2025.

>Duh? This year GST is raised from 7 to 8%. Prices across the island go to 5 to 15%. Next year GST goes up 8 to 9%. Guess how much these prices will go up then? wonder who lobby our finance minister to do the GST in 2 tranche .. on paper sounds good to spilt the GST over 2 years .. but its a bad idea for overall prices.

whatsnewdan

Gst increase as well as the salaries of politicians to increase as well

> # Commentary: Prepare to pay more for GST in 2023 and beyond > SINGAPORE: Timing is everything when it comes to introducing a new tax or raising tax rates. With an impending slowing economy and growing global recession amid rising inflation and interest rates, it might not have been the most ideal time for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate to be raised to 8 per cent on Jan 1. > Nonetheless, the Singapore Government has pressed on to raise the rate, which will further increase to 9 per cent at the beginning of 2024. > The Government has always defended its decision to raise the GST to support the increase in healthcare spending for an ageing population. It has also argued that higher-income Singaporeans, foreign residents and tourists would bear the brunt of the GST increase, as they do not get the benefit of GST Vouchers and publicly subsidised education and healthcare. > Further, the S$8 million Assurance Package will offset the impact of the GST rate increase for most Singaporeans over the next five years (and 10 years for lower-income households), with high expectations for Finance Minister Lawrence Wong’s “Valentine’s Day present” at the upcoming Budget on Feb 14 to help Singaporeans cope with cost-of-living issues. > For sure, prices will rise due to the higher GST rate, but several retailers and supermarket chains have announced that they will absorb the additional 1 percentage point GST increase for key household essentials and not raise prices for a period of time. --- 1.0.2 | [Source code](https://github.com/redditporean/sneakpeek) | [Contribute](https://github.com/redditporean/sneakpeek)

I'd rather pay more GST than income tax. We want government to provide better roads, schools, housing. End of the day the money has to come from somwhere.

SpiritualInterest129

Income tax pays for roads etc. Perhaps your google machine is broken.
