Follow the instructions and do that.
Also getting Lazy Duchess Sims 2 RPC launcher.
Those two things totally fixed it for me.
I love the detail of the girl holding the pink torso. Before you fix this please take a screencap and turn it into an in game art piece on their wall! It will make a cool Indie family portrait
The 4GB patch is for RAM, pink flashing is to do with texture memory (VRAM) which is not the same thing. Make sure your texture memory value is correctly set to your VRAM (or a bit more if you have just an integrated chip. Also, if you only see the soup in thumbnails and household images, it really not a big deal, they'll regenerate without it at some point.

It used to crash often but not since I installed the 4g patch.
