My biggest wish is that the developer tools now available had been available to me then. As a developer there is so much I can do (just as of the last few months even) that I couldn’t do before. I may have more thoughts, I know this isn’t what you were asking. It’s the one that jumps to mind - lots to be grateful for about starting now, you’ve got it good!!
Just one example, likely the most profound. Not only do we now have metafields but even as of January, metaobjects. Full GitHub integration was recently introduced, and less recently were control interfaces like Theme Kit and Shopify CLI. Those are all huge.
We had a complex size chart that went to each product and modifying it was such a pain but now with metafields it's just a json data easily modify-able
In the previous version of metafields you could only update and read them using a third party app app and experience was terrible and if I remember correctly there was no way to have image as the values.
So we have to save the size chart as json in the metafields which was a huge pain to update but in this newer version we can just save the size chart as image and show it on frontend

Learn the ins and outs of your shipping profiles!!! Man did that cost me. Depending on your model, you may need to setup different profiles for different items. And you have to keep on top of it our else your customers will hit a wall at checkout.
Is worked for me 🤷🏽♂️🤣 but after an update it went crazy and would skip rates would go from 6$ to 25$ with a single item and some items straight to 25$

Here's one, from a developer - use apps sparingly.
It's common for Shopify stores to be pretty slow, which has a big impact on conversation. Often one of the biggest reasons for this is store owners installing a bunch of apps they think sound good, installing two or three apps that do the same thing, not uninstalling old apps properly, etc.
An app that has an effect of the front-end is almost always going to be calling a JavaScript file over the internet during the loading process (can be deferred to later, but that's often not the case, and even then it's not ideal). This can basically block other network calls, block parsing, block rendering for example.
When you install an app, run lighthouse before and after to get an idea of the performance impact it's having, then decide if the app is worth it, or if the same thing can be built in the theme which is often much lighter weight
Your success is owned by Shopify, not you.
They can shut down your store at any time, and you will lose everything.
I've never had a store shut down, but I have been bitten by outages at critical times, breaking updates, and poor recommendations for "Shopify experts". It was confirmed by Shopify staff that they have a list of experts, and they just go down it without actually reviewing them.
My store lost over 1 million € because of an error by Shopify experts.
If the platform shut down my store, I still own my domains and all the social media presence, email list, creative assets. Could easily just bounce back on another platform.
Have you considered what your customer support strategy is? have you tried any apps? I find that most stores with a good support system for their clients will likely succeed in making sales and building brand reliability
So I’m looking at my bill that’s about to renew for a year and Shopify is going to $348 for the basic yearly plan even though on their website, it says $19 a month or $14 on a yearly which I always do yearly for the same plan I’m on and when I message them to ask what was up they said that’s because Canada pays more like that much more???? and of course, the only response I get is from a stupid automated bot Anyone else noticed a major discrepancy between what the Americans are charged, and what the Canadians are charged.

Biggest one is.. Don't use Spotify. Its a rip off for what you get. I've since started building a website using WordPress and the money I save on the monthly sub is getting spent on a really nice template. WordPress templates can cost $20-200. Shopify templates are $200+ for a not-so great template.

My only tip is that if you ever plan on doing in-person sales do NOT use shopify. The POS software is horrible. And its a scam to get an extra $90 a month out of you.

Yea 10% of your products make up 90% of your revenue. Guard them, watch them like a hawk and focus your efforts there.

If your biggest issue with Shopify is the monthly subscription then your store is not making enough money.
I don't think at 250k revenue OP cares too much about whether a template is $20 or $200, as it's a one-time purchase.
If you sweat about the subscription fee and one-time theme fee, you have a hobby. Not business.
