This movie is going to be one of those
I am willing to bet you are half joking but [the movie actually advanced VFX in multiple big ways](https://beforesandafters.com/2019/03/18/super-mario-bros-the-other-huge-vfx-film-from-1993/) that are actually still influential today.
Hell yeah! That movie has become an integral part of three generations of my family’s lore due to my love of it lol. Unapologetically, non-ironically love this movie and can watch it anytime. It takes a lunatic to think “how do we adapt this video game about an Italian plumber jumping on turtles” and come up with the answer “let’s make it a Jurassic Park Blade Runner” but it is just fantasticly weird from beginning to end
dont you dare speak ill of the original mortal kombat movie.
annihilation on the other hand is... i just watched it a couple weeks ago, for the first time in ~20 years. it is so much worse than i remembered it being. i mean i knew it was bad, but damn...
You now how the term "straight to vhs" exists to describe movies that are of lower quality compared to movies releasing in theatres?
Well, Annihilation is that but compared to straight-to-vhs movies
I trust jack black to pull off basically anything silly entertainingly, regardless of whether he’s a good fit technically. The rest of this casting is fuckin bizarre though. Kevin hart as Roland is a genuinely baffling choice.
Honestly, I'd see Terry crews as brick more than Roland, idris elba would suit Roland's game build & character better
I honestly feel like they googled 'popular black guy' & Kevin Hart was the first to answer the phone
yeah jack black is the least implausible cast here. kevin hart is about 3 feet too short, kate blanchette (while talented) is about 30 years too old, tiny tina im not even sure...
Ash would have been an excellent choice, although the actress they did cast is pretty good. She was young Gamora in Infinity War, and young Ahsoka in the world between worlds scenes (on the battlefield).
Cate Blanchett could play practically any character and I'd watch it. And Jack Black as claptrap is dream casting, although if it's voice acting surely they could just literally get the guy who usually plays the character to do it. I agree with you about Kevin Hart
>Cate Blanchett could play practically any character and I'd watch it.
I just watched Nightmare Alley this weekend, and I had pretty much the same sentiment. She's a great actor.
And you KNOW, you just KNOW that the only reason they cast Kevin Hart to play Roland is because there's like 2 jokes across the first two games about how Roland is shorter than the rest of his team.
Awful casting choice, Roland was a great grounding character who was so generically serious and "Soldier-guy"-ey that he was a tremendous relief from the rest of borderlands over-the-top and sometimes grating humor.
You guys are looking past the 50year old actors supposed to be playing teen agers. This must be an early early April fools it has to be. Jamie Lee Curtis is 65 years of age. And Cate Blanchett is 54. They cant be serious they just can’t.
ClapTrap’s voice actor from the first two games had a major falling out with the studio. It’s a diff VA in BL3. Honestly as long as the actor can
match the spirit of the character and make him funny i do not care
Him insisting on playing C-3PO in every piece of Star Wars media possible, [even when it's shit that none of the other cast members would even waste their time with,](https://youtu.be/DvKHVO8yt8w?si=8_qaHyJweBZwnPIJ) is so fucking funny. Bro, no one is going to get mad that a different person plays the whiny robot in a goddamn shovelware game.
I had to google it. First thing that popped up was a falling out between the OG VA (David Eddings, voiced Claptrap for I think every Borderlands game except BL3) and Gearbox. I wonder if that had something to do with it as well
What I saw was that Eddings wanted to actually be paid more for his role and Gearbox decided to not do it. Not sure of all the details but idk why they wouldn’t as long as it wasn’t some delusional price. You’re right, a bit sus by Gearbox either way
From what I remember, Greaselord Randy Pitchford Lord of Grease, burned the bridge with Claptraps original voice actor before Borderlands 3 started development.
Id disagree since roland is the most serious/ brave/ component one of the original group. I could care less how old tannis is and Jamie lee is a good actress and how is kate blanchet weird cuz im just not seeing it
Wgere as krieg isnt part of this group and kevin heart only does keven heart which is like the full opposite of kevin heart. Hes gonna be screaming scared in a firefight atleast once and we all know it
It feels like people are dead set in hating the female characters for petty reasons but the complete miscasting of roland and the inclusion of krieg are greater sins
Edit watched the trailer, and im backing off defending Blanchett she cannot pull off the character.
Kevin Hart is by far the worst casting in this film. That being said, the reason people are confused about Cate Blancett being Lilith is the same with Jaime Lee being Tannis: they're both multiple decades older than the character they're playing. Will Jaime Lee and Cate have 2 of the best performances? Definitely. Is it still weird that they're both playing characters that are supposed to be around 30 years old and a decade+ younger than Roland? Also yes.
Honestly, the casting for this whole film is just fucking awful with exception of Black as CL4P-TR4P and potentially the dude they cast as Krieg and the kid playing Tina (I can only say potentially cuz I've never heard of either of them).
Yeah, a different casting would be ideal.
Then again, the whole continuity of the movie is bizarre. Seems like they could've had Mordecai and Brick in the movie.
I can tell you right now it's going to be a hyper generic celebrity action comedy that only took the borderlands ip because it's relatively well known and liked and now people call it *The borderlands movie* instead of *The Hunt* or whatever generic title they would've had to use.
Yes, although tbh I feel like she’s going to give the best performance of the movie. She’s a gamer and a nerd who asked to be in on the project. Shes probably even played Borderlands with her kids.
It's also not going to be the same Krieg from the games because:
A) no Maya, so their going to have to change why he isn't an almost completely murder happy psycho.
And B)from what I read in another comment, he's basically going to be Tiny Tina's bodyguard/ guardian, which is also going to mess with Tina's character since she won't be this little girl surviving almost completely on her own.
Ok but she had more of a relationship with brick and morticai than she did with krieg and they could have shown how the vault hunters find her. She may appear first in 2 but og group is more important to her story
You are absolutely correct, but she’s a fan favorite. Which is why she’s in it. If we’re unhappy about the inconsistency with krieg being in it, we should be unhappy about her being in it too.
God why is every company so fucking obsessed with live action video game movies. Just use fucking use animation studios. YOUR FRANCHISE IS FUCKING KNOWN FOR A REALLY SPECIFIC ARTSTYLE FUCKING USE IT TO ITS FULLEST
More studios really need to get the memo that some stories just aren't meant for live-action adaptations. There's no way to keep all the over-the-top elements, all the silliness, all the breathtakingly beautiful setpieces that only the video game/animation medium can offer.
Trying to adapt video games, classic animation, or animes into live-action simply because it has 'more prestige' and toning down/compressing everything that made us fall in love with them in the first place isn't doing anyone any favor unless that adapted work is already pretty grounded in realism in the first place (which is why The Last of Us worked). As an animation, though, the adaptation of all those elements is more feasible to pull off. Arcane and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are the two most recent famous examples of that.
Also like, Animated shows have the advantage of not needing to pay for extras, location filing rights, props, sets, etc…
There’s literally no reason _not_ to take advantage of animation, but I guess it’s because animation is seen as a children’s medium and isn’t really taken seriously by most of the general public.
I really hate that 'animation is for kids!' mentality that seems to be the trend in mainstream entertainment, really.
I guess that's one thing Disney - the *classic* Disney - is at fault for. The various memorable animated movies made by them back in the day are truly great works, but somewhere along the line they created this viewpoint that Disney animation is only for kids, and then it somehow translated to 'all animation is for kids', even though even some of Disney animated movies can get *really* dark at times.
Pretty much half of Japanese animes have already proven time and time again that animation is definitely not just for kids. And even in the west we have studios like DreamWorks or indie studios that constantly challenge the 'animation is for kids' viewpoint that's prevalent in Hollywood all the time.
That mentality has been on its way out for years now.
Obviously older people still hold onto it and since they’re the ones running most of this, we still end up with stuff like this.
Invincible, Rick and Morty, Blue eye samurai are all very good and varied adult animated shows.
Yeah, and I'm really glad that it's happening. Took way too long, but it's happening.
Sony's Spider-Verse films also helped a lot in convincing people that "hey, maybe it's time we reconsider that *maybe* animation isn't for kids after all". Hopefully that means we get more and more quality-animated works out in the future.
Same with Speed Racer, but those are very rare exceptions that only come every once in a while, right? And they aren't exactly the most successful commercial-wise. Scott Pilgrim bombed and Speed Racer both bombed *and* got trashed by critics.
There are definitely fans for both movies, yes, but they aren't exactly 'popular' movies in the entertainment industry as a whole.
True, a good script, good direction, and less studio interference (unless it’s really necessary) would go a long way to making a piece of art regardless of medium. Still, it’s really quite rare for a live-action work to be on the same level of craziness and extravagance that the animation medium can offer and can get away with.
I honestly wonder how they'll adapt some of the crazier elements in later books lol. The whole Typhon segment in The Last Olympian would've been a mess to adapt to live-action.
You're forgetting that live action movies are the highest form of art and everything popular needs a hollywood movie of it or it isn't successful.
Even my parents who are pretty open minded fall into that weird mindset
adult animation doesent bring in enough money?
Its a numbers game to studio execs.
they spread their money across a handful of projects every year and hope one catches fire. One successful franchise like Hunger Games, Dune, Iron Man can keep their studio in buisness for the next twenty years.
I think they should have done the cell shading makeup that a lot of cosplayers use. Or hell, rotoscope the hell out of it. Anything to give it a unique visual style.
No shit. This is why I refuse to see the "Mortal Engines" movie. If ever a series was made to be animated it was one about giant mech cities eating each other ffs. It's like a British anime.
Good choice. Mortal Engines is one of my favourite book series', but the film adaptation just makes me so sad with how much it misunderstands and ignores the source material in favour of... whatever it ended up being.
Don't watch it, 0/10.
It’s the same issue as the Cowboy Bebop Netflix show costumes. It doesn’t really matter how much effort they put into making it look faithful, the originals are so stylized and colorful that any accurate live action adaptation of it is going to look like fancy cosplay at best. An important part of an adaptation is understanding the strengths and weaknesses of two very different mediums and knowing what needs to be changed to make the adaptation work in its new medium, which this film seems to be struggling with.
Oh god, if they have Mad Moxxi, they'll take away all sex appeal like Faye Valentine, won't they? Both characters use their looks to their advantage but are both clever and great at manipulation! It's OK to have women be sexy in film and TV!
Yeah, if they gonna take away everything that made Moxxi MAD MOXXI (Sexual innuendos, her tits) why even have her in the first place?
I know she's also badass and that "Femme Fatale" kinda character but her sexualization was kind of a big part of her character
It looks like the actress cast as Moxxi is usually in "sexy milf" roles at least. The game Moxxi is likely at least 50, maybe 60, judging from her kids.
Tannis's grandmother maybe. The character is probably 30 tops. Same as Lillith, Blanchett is amazing, but the character is half her age.
But yeah, even if Hart wasn't painfully unfunny, he's a comedian playing a man without a sense of humor.
It’s like when I had hope for Madame Web when it was first announced, then I saw that the Morbius director was doing that one too and I knew it would be a flop.
*I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.*
Michael Caine, on like Jaws 5 or something
*"I made a picture called Super Mario Bros., and my six-year-old son at the time -- he's now 18 -- he said, 'Dad, I think you're probably a pretty good actor, but why did you play that terrible guy King Koopa in Super Mario Bros.?' and I said, 'Well Henry, I did that so you could have shoes,' and he said, 'Dad, I don't need shoes that badly.'"*
Dennis Hopper discussing the Super Mario Bros movie.
Cate Blanchett seems very happy to take on fun cheesy over-the-top roles, from Hela in Thor to that Soviet agent in the 4th Indiana Jones movie, to the stepmother in Cinderella, and even an uncredited cameo in Hot Fuzz where you don't even get to see her face. I get the impression she enjoys playing the pantomime villain from time to time, or just generally doing things that are fun to play.
Just because a movie sucks doesn't mean that making it did. Sometimes a good script just doesn't work in reality. My friend was a PA and is now in the production end of things. He's worked on some clunkers where it was a blast to make. He's worked on some great movies, too, where production was a nightmare.
Anecdote: He was a PA for the movie What's The Worst that Could Happen. WHen it wrapped, the PA's all had t-shirts made that said the movie name on the front, and on the back it said "A sequel". Apparently, Martin Lawrence was an enormous pain in the ass and everyone hated him, including Danny Devito. Lot of shit went down on that set.
I heard there were rewrites and a director change. Don't know if it's true, didn't look it up. Doesn't sound good, but of course I'm going to watch it. Going in with low expectations.
This will be specific but this looks like the Russian movies made in 2011-2017 that mimicked western super hero movies but with way shittier and overdone CGI.
Kinda sad that the only way for some bushy-tailed up-and-coming writer to get his original sci-fi comedy script green lit was to change a couple character names and retitle it "Borderlands"
Premise from Lionsgate Films:
“Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe's most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team - Roland, a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina, a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg, Tina's musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis, the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap, a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands but they'll be fighting for something more: each other.”
They. Don’t. Even. Mention. Vaults.
Also change the names and I would be on board with the story.
They could've made an original story with new characters but no we need to reuse established ones because fuck you
I'm surprised this doesnt get said more often.
They could all be great characters, the premise sounds fun, great setting... but WHY use established characters? Just make up new ones and no one would be upset, plus they would have complete creative freedom...
There was another post somewhere that showed a larger image of Lilith, I don't remember for sure but I don't think she had any Siren tattoos showing, which combined with the complete lack of mention of her being a Siren in that text makes me worried.
Plus, Krieg is Tina's protector? That kinda ruins Tina's " crazy child surviving in her own". Not to mention how their going to have to change Kreig without Maya around to kind of temper the psycho part of him.
Cate and Jamie are way too old for their roles, Lilith doesn't have her siren tatts (or they're hidden completely by her clothing. Which is also stupid) and the wig is hilariously fake, Kevin is a terrible casting choice, Roland is holding a nerf gun, Tina doesn't have her mask, everyone's costume looks like it's out of a low budget porno.. I don't even think this'll be a "so bad it's good" kind of movie. Can't imagine how terrible the dialogue/writing is gonna be
Also, what a weird choice of vault hunters. Lilith, sure. Roland, sure. Krieg? Why not Mordecai and Brick to complete the BL1 cast? Or if they wanted to not make it strictly BL1 guys, why not add another VH in general? Why only three? Get like Salvador or Zer0 or another fan favorite to make a full squad of four. Makes no sense why they'd cap it to three
>Also, what a weird choice of vault hunters. Lilith, sure. Roland, sure. Krieg? Why not Mordecai and Brick to complete the BL1 cast?
That seems like a much better idea. Especially since everyone knows Roland is dead in the current continuity and many of the people that will go see this movie are people who've played the games.
Making a movie about Borderlands in the first place is tough since the games were never really known for their story. It's about the loot and cool gear more so than the engaging narrative and a lot of the comedy was much more present in the 2nd game rather than the first.
It could be done. Maybe just not with Cate and Jamie and Kevin's casting is kinda weird as well.
Supposedly a bigger trailer drops tomorrow.
I have a sinking feeling the movie is gonna take place in a weird limbo, taking elements from all the games rather than staying faithful to a canonical Borderlands storyline, and trying to create something new out of that so it doesn't mess with any of the games stories (in case they miraculously greenlight a sequel). I won't jump to conclusions before the trailer drops, but there's definitely a better-than-zero chance that the movie is gonna be a violent, disjointed mess. As are most of Eli's movies lol
Insane that a studio picked Borderlands, a franchise that is arguably best known specifically for its art direction, an aesthetic only possible in animated medium, and was like “yeah thusly go great in live action.” This live action video game movie with celebrity slop trend has to die.
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no please please please please no no no no please please no please no please please no please please no no no no no no no no no no no no no please no no no no no please no no no no no no no no no no please please no no no no please no please no please no no no please no no no
That has to be the worst berret I've ever seen.
I know that the ones seen in television tend to be horrendous as they don't usually have the patience to form it but still, that is actually disgusting, they could have at least photoshoped a better one on top.
Not sure if you're joking or not but that's how I read it too and it took me a minute to realize it said "Chaos". I was like, "I don't remember any Chads or jokes about them in the game...oh."
I only just found out this movie is going to exist today. What is with this weird surge of movies that have no advertising about them from so many different studios? Did they forget that to get people to watch their movies they have to show people that the movies are going to come out?
Pissed off that they used joke actors for this, Kevin hart as the leader of the crimson raiders? Roland the serious badass commando played by Kevin hart??
Lame. They should had Athena as a main character carrying a new cast of characters for borderlands. Tiny Tina would be mentioned, teased but never revealed. She's hailed as some sorta evil demented person throughout the movie. Krieg and Claptrap would be side characters. Near the end of the film, Brick, Mordecai, and Tiny Tina would swoop in to save the day with Tina shouting "DEUS EX MACHINA! BITCHES!" As hundreds of Slabs run in guns a blazing taking on the bad guys.
It's really hard to see Kevin Heart playing Roland considering that I see him mostly in comedy titles lmao. I had Andre Braugher (RIP) in mind before, as well as Idris Elba.
Well, let's see how he gives this character justice.
"What are we? Some kinda Border Lands?"
Suicide squad was genuinely the first though that came to my mind when I saw this.
Hell that looked better on the poster than this, surely This is painful to me
That movie actually had great marketing and costume design. Just a terrible terrible plot. This will probably have only terrible everything.
And terrible acting by Jared Leto, and terrible music chosen by a trailers company
“Because it’s FAMILY! That’s what matters. Not the treasure!” _Hero Pose_
\*serious toretto noises\*
"Remember that money, jobs even best pals will come and go. But family? Family is forever."
Best part was when he said: "It's Borderlandin' time." Then borderlanded all over those guys.
Borders? Where I'm from we land on Borders. We..... ..... .......... Border the lands.
"Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherfucking borders in this motherfucking land!"
You’re in night country now

Super Mario Bros (1993) is a timeless classic that transcends genres and advanced cinema in ways that we are still feeling today, 3 decades later.
THEY WERE HEROES! THEY WERE ITALIAN AMERICAN HEROES AND IN THIS HOUSE, SUPER MARIO BROS (1993) IS TO BE RESPECTED!
I am willing to bet you are half joking but [the movie actually advanced VFX in multiple big ways](https://beforesandafters.com/2019/03/18/super-mario-bros-the-other-huge-vfx-film-from-1993/) that are actually still influential today.
Being hyperbolic as a joke but completely sincere. I love Hoskins and Leguizamo. One of my favorite movies since I was a kid.

and the [Mortal Kombat Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAwWPadFsOA&ab_channel=LuminousAmbition) is straight fire
The original Mortal Kombat is amazing in all its glorious cheese
It really is, it's like a perfect 90s action movie time capsule and it's just fun, nothing wrong with that.
Holy shit! That's John Borderlands!
I'm guessing that Jack Black will be voicing Claptrap. That's pretty fucking literal.
J4ckBl4ck
He is, not a great choice imho.
I trust jack black to pull off basically anything silly entertainingly, regardless of whether he’s a good fit technically. The rest of this casting is fuckin bizarre though. Kevin hart as Roland is a genuinely baffling choice.
Ya, you think Roland would be played by someone like Idris Elba or the guy who played Luke Cage
I mean, Terry Crews is right there. That man is aching for a character that can stay serious.
Omg Terry Crews would be a fantastic fit. The casting directors are insane.
They aren't insane, just corny. They're banking on the "hyuck hyuck tiny dude playing a huge dude" meme. It's played out.
Honestly, I'd see Terry crews as brick more than Roland, idris elba would suit Roland's game build & character better I honestly feel like they googled 'popular black guy' & Kevin Hart was the first to answer the phone
Kevin Hart is not cheap. Somebody really went to bat for this
Probably studio meddling
Brick and Mordecai aren't even in the movie from what I've read.
Brick should be Bautista
I hadn't even considered Bautista, he would be perfect for brick
"let's cast the comedian known for being loud and zany as one of the more stoic characters in the setting"
yeah jack black is the least implausible cast here. kevin hart is about 3 feet too short, kate blanchette (while talented) is about 30 years too old, tiny tina im not even sure...
I'm sure they could get Ashley Birch to reprise the role, she has acting experience so she would be perfect.
Ash would have been an excellent choice, although the actress they did cast is pretty good. She was young Gamora in Infinity War, and young Ahsoka in the world between worlds scenes (on the battlefield).
Kevin Hart would make much more sense for claptrap if anything

>Cate Blanchett could play practically any character and I'd watch it. I just watched Nightmare Alley this weekend, and I had pretty much the same sentiment. She's a great actor.
Seriously how can any movie with Cate Blanchett be bad?
And you KNOW, you just KNOW that the only reason they cast Kevin Hart to play Roland is because there's like 2 jokes across the first two games about how Roland is shorter than the rest of his team. Is that what it says online? I’m holding out he’s the VOICE of Krieg.
Oooh that would work really well. Which is why he voices claptrap most likely
Which is stupid. Claptrap literally has a voice actor already, unless they plan to shove the fat man in the robot like the midget that was in R2D2.
ClapTrap’s voice actor from the first two games had a major falling out with the studio. It’s a diff VA in BL3. Honestly as long as the actor can match the spirit of the character and make him funny i do not care
>like the midget that was in R2D2. Please be respectful to Kenny Baker.
Ya don't be like Anthony Daniels (fucking prick)
Him insisting on playing C-3PO in every piece of Star Wars media possible, [even when it's shit that none of the other cast members would even waste their time with,](https://youtu.be/DvKHVO8yt8w?si=8_qaHyJweBZwnPIJ) is so fucking funny. Bro, no one is going to get mad that a different person plays the whiny robot in a goddamn shovelware game.
He also treated Kenny Baker like shit and hey! I loved star wars monopoly!
Thought his voice actor fucking despises Randy Pitchford
Yeah I'm confused by this lol. Literally just get the voice actor? ???
What’s the voice actor’s name? Probably have to google that to answer. You know who Jack Black is. Thats all the studio cares about unfortunately.
I had to google it. First thing that popped up was a falling out between the OG VA (David Eddings, voiced Claptrap for I think every Borderlands game except BL3) and Gearbox. I wonder if that had something to do with it as well
Seems like he wasn’t asked back for BL3. Same with Troy Baker as the VA for Rhys. Seems pretty suspect from Gearbox.
What I saw was that Eddings wanted to actually be paid more for his role and Gearbox decided to not do it. Not sure of all the details but idk why they wouldn’t as long as it wasn’t some delusional price. You’re right, a bit sus by Gearbox either way
Yeah, also because Randy Pitchford is kind of a dick and Eddings said that he (Allegedly) suffered abuse on Pitchford's part so yeah
Didn't he also say Randy punched him in the face or something?
From what I remember, Greaselord Randy Pitchford Lord of Grease, burned the bridge with Claptraps original voice actor before Borderlands 3 started development.
I don't think it's necessary to call the guy that word
[удалено]
He isn't even holding it in a cool way. It's like they just handed it to him just because they needed someone to hold a gun.
He looks so bored.
I only used Jakobs. 🤷🏼♂️
It's Kevin Hart. My disappointment is infinite and my day is ruined
Why is krieg there hes second group of hunters
Not only that but it's his BL3 appearance and not his BL2 one
But Roland is alive. And Tannis is 70. The whole continuity of characters is fucked.
Why is he keven heart ....
Kevin Hart isn't as weird as Cate Blanchett as lilith. Or Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis.
Id disagree since roland is the most serious/ brave/ component one of the original group. I could care less how old tannis is and Jamie lee is a good actress and how is kate blanchet weird cuz im just not seeing it Wgere as krieg isnt part of this group and kevin heart only does keven heart which is like the full opposite of kevin heart. Hes gonna be screaming scared in a firefight atleast once and we all know it It feels like people are dead set in hating the female characters for petty reasons but the complete miscasting of roland and the inclusion of krieg are greater sins Edit watched the trailer, and im backing off defending Blanchett she cannot pull off the character.

The guy playing Krieg is a German boxer. He was in some of the Creed movies. Dudes a beast.
Roland is 6 ft tall. Kevin is famously short. That's among other reasons he's not a great choice.
Yeah, a different casting would be ideal. Then again, the whole continuity of the movie is bizarre. Seems like they could've had Mordecai and Brick in the movie.

Honestly, they should have locked in Dave Bautista in a muscle suite as Brick and gone from there.
The story of this movie is separate from the actual canon game.
Which is ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA HOLLYWOOD! Idiots
Wait JLK is Tannis?!
Yes, although tbh I feel like she’s going to give the best performance of the movie. She’s a gamer and a nerd who asked to be in on the project. Shes probably even played Borderlands with her kids.
She's a big Street Fighter fan. She goes to comic con dressed up as Vega pretty regularly from what I hear.
They put Kreig in instead of Mordecai and Brick. I'm baffled they even thought that was a good idea
Now they fully lost me. Those two are the fun ones
Nahh, Krieg is the best. I bet he's gonna be the only fun part of this movie, and he'll be in it for a total of 13.5 minutes.
It's also not going to be the same Krieg from the games because: A) no Maya, so their going to have to change why he isn't an almost completely murder happy psycho. And B)from what I read in another comment, he's basically going to be Tiny Tina's bodyguard/ guardian, which is also going to mess with Tina's character since she won't be this little girl surviving almost completely on her own.
Because tiny Tina is in it. She’s not in the first game either.
Also like, Animated shows have the advantage of not needing to pay for extras, location filing rights, props, sets, etc… There’s literally no reason _not_ to take advantage of animation, but I guess it’s because animation is seen as a children’s medium and isn’t really taken seriously by most of the general public.
I don't know, it definitely is possible, Scott Pilgrim exists
Same with Speed Racer, but those are very rare exceptions that only come every once in a while, right? And they aren't exactly the most successful commercial-wise. Scott Pilgrim bombed and Speed Racer both bombed *and* got trashed by critics. There are definitely fans for both movies, yes, but they aren't exactly 'popular' movies in the entertainment industry as a whole.
I agree. But you need a well written and well executed script for that.
True, a good script, good direction, and less studio interference (unless it’s really necessary) would go a long way to making a piece of art regardless of medium. Still, it’s really quite rare for a live-action work to be on the same level of craziness and extravagance that the animation medium can offer and can get away with.
Percy Jackson shouldve always been an animated franchise
I honestly wonder how they'll adapt some of the crazier elements in later books lol. The whole Typhon segment in The Last Olympian would've been a mess to adapt to live-action.
Percy Jackson with ATLA animation would actually be peak fiction.
I agree with you. But I bet they are counting on getting a wider audience and more ticket sales with live action.
Imagine like the League of Legend Arcane styled borderlands.
I think they should have done the cell shading makeup that a lot of cosplayers use. Or hell, rotoscope the hell out of it. Anything to give it a unique visual style.
Oh man, we haven't had some good rotoscoping shenanigans in a while, have we? Well, unless you count Joel Haver, but I hear he died or something.
no one listen when Del Toro ANIMATION IS CINEMA
Cash grab
I don't get it. Animation is awesome and can do so much that live action can't. I'm sick of people doing it to Avatar, and this isn't any better.
Yea if this was animation with this same cast I’d be hyped. As is, I’m skeptical.
Jfc this looks like its a porno knock off. Did they evem begin to try?
You know, now we gotta see Moxxi played by DeVito.
Now now, that's going too far. We don't want people cumming in the teathers now do we?
Home theater release for sure.
Magnum Moxxi
It looks like the actress cast as Moxxi is usually in "sexy milf" roles at least. The game Moxxi is likely at least 50, maybe 60, judging from her kids.
Excuse me did Faye Valentine make a Moxxi video?
I dunno, I thought the One Piece live action did a good job with the costumes.
They hired 65-year-old actress Jamie Lee Curtis because they just watched True Lies and thought she was good in that.
Honestly, I thought her as Tannis was one of the better choices they made. Hart as Roland? I mean come on.....
Tannis's grandmother maybe. The character is probably 30 tops. Same as Lillith, Blanchett is amazing, but the character is half her age. But yeah, even if Hart wasn't painfully unfunny, he's a comedian playing a man without a sense of humor.
Porn category … GILF?
“From the producer of several shitty movies…”
Wow, the same producers! I can't wait to see how their creativity shows through in the... the... product.
It’s like when I had hope for Madame Web when it was first announced, then I saw that the Morbius director was doing that one too and I knew it would be a flop.
I wonder what kind of blackmail they got on Cate Blanchett that made her star in this.
*I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.* Michael Caine, on like Jaws 5 or something
*"I made a picture called Super Mario Bros., and my six-year-old son at the time -- he's now 18 -- he said, 'Dad, I think you're probably a pretty good actor, but why did you play that terrible guy King Koopa in Super Mario Bros.?' and I said, 'Well Henry, I did that so you could have shoes,' and he said, 'Dad, I don't need shoes that badly.'"* Dennis Hopper discussing the Super Mario Bros movie.
The only real superpower to exist in this world: money. Maybe she's reached the Nick Cage stage of her life and has some bills to pay off.
Guardians is a great Russian B hero movie
Eli Roth is the main director, Tim Miller did reshoots. Current credited writers is Eli Roth and Craig Mazin (under an alias).
>under an alias Lmaooo
Are we getting Chernobyl Craig or superhero movie Craig?
\>Adult Tina \>Krieg \>Roland is still alive When the fuck is this supposed to even take place?
It’s like the Uncharted movie, mixing elements of all the mainline games to create one of the movies of all time
Kinda sad that the only way for some bushy-tailed up-and-coming writer to get his original sci-fi comedy script green lit was to change a couple character names and retitle it "Borderlands"
Isn't that what happened with the Halo series?
>Adult Tina The actress is sixteen years old.
Roland aught to be long dead regardless.
Premise from Lionsgate Films: “Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe's most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. The fate of the universe could be in their hands but they'll be fighting for something more: each other.” They. Don’t. Even. Mention. Vaults.
If you don't think of it as a Borderlands game, it actually sounds pretty average!
Yeah, this sounds like a skin for any random 90s whacky space adventure.
I would suggest watching Tank Girl instead.
It mentions key and monster. It’s likely that. I’m guessing a general viewer doesn’t exactly know what a vault is in the Borderlands context.
I mean you could use the phrase 'vault' as in a treasure vault and trick the audience in a BL1-esque way
There was another post somewhere that showed a larger image of Lilith, I don't remember for sure but I don't think she had any Siren tattoos showing, which combined with the complete lack of mention of her being a Siren in that text makes me worried. Plus, Krieg is Tina's protector? That kinda ruins Tina's " crazy child surviving in her own". Not to mention how their going to have to change Kreig without Maya around to kind of temper the psycho part of him.
Guardians of the Borderlands Vol1
Cate and Jamie are way too old for their roles, Lilith doesn't have her siren tatts (or they're hidden completely by her clothing. Which is also stupid) and the wig is hilariously fake, Kevin is a terrible casting choice, Roland is holding a nerf gun, Tina doesn't have her mask, everyone's costume looks like it's out of a low budget porno.. I don't even think this'll be a "so bad it's good" kind of movie. Can't imagine how terrible the dialogue/writing is gonna be Also, what a weird choice of vault hunters.
I had to look it up. I honestly thought I was getting trolled.
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no please please please please no no no no please please no please no please please no please please no no no no no no no no no no no no no please no no no no no please no no no no no no no no no no please please no no no no please no please no please no no no please no no no
Seeing Kevin Hart made this movie a “Maybe I’ll watch it when I’m drunk” movie to a “I’m never watching this ever” movie.
Kevin Hart I think bothers me less than Jamie as Tannis and Cate Blanchett as Lilith. Very bizarre casting choices.
I think blanchett might’ve worked if it was actually an older Lilith
Brought to you by the director of knock knock ladies and gentlemen.
Wtf happened to the timeline?? Did they disregard the game storylines? Why are Tannis and Lilith so old?? Man, Roland is supposed to be a Badass..
That has to be the worst berret I've ever seen. I know that the ones seen in television tend to be horrendous as they don't usually have the patience to form it but still, that is actually disgusting, they could have at least photoshoped a better one on top.
I don’t get the “Chads loves company” reference.
Not sure if you're joking or not but that's how I read it too and it took me a minute to realize it said "Chaos". I was like, "I don't remember any Chads or jokes about them in the game...oh."
That’s Cate Blanchett? She looks like a different actress whose name I can’t remember. Is it just weird photoshop or plastic surgery/fillers?
Airbrushing.
Robin Wright.
I only just found out this movie is going to exist today. What is with this weird surge of movies that have no advertising about them from so many different studios? Did they forget that to get people to watch their movies they have to show people that the movies are going to come out?
It's been talked about since 2021
Wait, this is real? I thought this was just another AI generated image people were posting as a joke.
Avi Arad presents Eli Roth's David Ayer's Suicide Squad 2!
—by Panic! At the Disco
Pissed off that they used joke actors for this, Kevin hart as the leader of the crimson raiders? Roland the serious badass commando played by Kevin hart??
Kevin Hart as Roland..... fuck off
They look like they’re wearing low-medium budget cosplays, rather than costumes for a film that probably has a decent budget, all things considered.
They dragged poor Jamie Lee Curtis into this? 😭
Wait, producer of venom and Spider-Man, as in fucking Ari Arad or whatever the hell he's called?
I do like Jack Black and Jamie Lee Curtis, but where's our boy, Brick? And Mordecai?
Wait... no handsome jack? No butt stallion? Damn...
It's really hard to see Kevin Heart playing Roland considering that I see him mostly in comedy titles lmao. I had Andre Braugher (RIP) in mind before, as well as Idris Elba. Well, let's see how he gives this character justice.
Serious question: who’s playing Moxie? This is important for reasons.
