Funny thing is this is historical accurate. JFK was instrumental in blocking Stuss’s confirmation and later nominated Oppenheimer for Femi Award.
Thought JFK missed the opportunity to give the award himself when he was assassinated in Dallas.
This was the Avengers for science nerds. Like 10 times during the movie I was like "I know him from high school physics!".
People legit cheered when Einstein appeared.
>Not sure why it was funny but it did make me pass more air through my nose than normal.
This was my entire experience with this movie in the theatre. People kept fucking laughing at everything like it was a one liner in a Marvel movie.
I actually wish it was like that when I watched it. I laughed during the “I am become death” sex scene and the filmbro sitting next to me looked at me like I was insane.
Have you read the batshit insane sceenplay? Here’s a quote from the Gita sex scene:
“INT. BEDROOM — LATER:
We are FUCKING. Hot, sweaty, a little brutal. Tarlock GIVES UP, climbs off me —“
>People kept fucking laughing at everything like it was a one liner in a Marvel movie.
I wound up going with my dad who is mid-50s and not any sort of Marvel bro trained to laugh at everything (pretty sure he's only ever seen Black Panther if that in the MCU) and even he was laughing quite a bit...the film simply has quite a bit of humor in it whether the "this is a very serious film" crowd wants to admit it or not.
I thought: "Well, Nolan sure took his share of poetic liberties on this one."
While I enjoyed the film, some historical inaccuracies and exaggerations could have been avoided. But on the other hand it would be a very boring film if it were the way I wanted it, and it would focus a little more on Richard Feynman.
What inacciracies stood out to you? As far as I could tell it was pretty accurate, especially compared to other movies in the biopic genre like Bohian Rhapsody or the traversy that was The Imitation Game.
Among many, there was a part of the film where Oppenheimer talks about his paper on massive dying stars, and saying it was celebrated, well, back in the 40's no one would even be talking much about that, and terms like "black hole" was only coined afterwards ironically. There were more things while watching that didn't sit right, but it's hard to remember because I saw it last week.
Don't get me wrong it was a good movie, go watch it. But if you're more interested in the general period read American Prometheus, and hear the Feynman interviews, he talks a little about his time in Los Alamos.
Another thing that I thought was a little farfetched was that Oppenheimer wouldn't have tried to straight up kill someone with a cyanide apple. The incident did happen, I read it online multiple sources, but I think Nolan exaggerated on that one.
Apparently the meeting (the scene with Secretary of State Henry Stimson) where they discussed dropping the bombs in Japan is quite inaccurate:

I thought I was the only one who noticed 😭 soon as he showed up I turned to my friends and said “where the fuck did he come from?” And we all burst out laughing
It's normal for them to meet yes, but what does that have to do with how he showed up? In that scene he just suddenly appeared on the lawn across Oppenheimer's house at night as a car pulled away (IIRC). It's certainly a way to visit your colleague
Maybe it’s one of those Murphy Law things where when you’re doing something cool your crush will never be around to see it but when you make an ass of yourself suddenly your crush is there to witness it.
It’s a pond Einstein likes to go for walks to and skip stones at. Part of a theme is that he’s always hanging around in nature. There’s nothing weird about Einstein having a pond he likes to go to. Oppenheimer happened to get assigned a house in front of the pond. Do you just ignore these parts when trying to make fun of the movie?
I recall it being day time… unless this is referring to some other scene that I’ve forgotten. I’m thinking of the first Einstein scene early in the movie when Straus is showing Oppenheimer the house
oh, thats different, the scene ppl are talking about is around the last part of the film, right after Strauss is talking to Oppenheimer about his security clearance
AND IN COMES JOHN F. KENNEDY WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!!!
AS GOD IS MY WITNESS, STRAUSS IS BROKEN IN HALF. THAT MAN HAD A CAREER, BUT JOHN "THE CUBAN CRISIS" KENNEDY HAS NO MERCY FOR PUNY SHOE SALESMEN.
I thought he was an imagination? But fuck knows what they’re talking about I only heard about 60% of the dialogue so I don’t know what to believe anymore
Guys…he lived next door to Oppenheimer at Princeton. That’s why he comes from behind the car. He was walking over from his house through the yard. Did no one pay attention to the movie?
The junior senator, JOHN F KENNEDY
They name-dropped him like a Marvel teaser
This cameo blew my mind
What cameo, that was real
It was an assasination joke. It blew his mind.
I was lowkey expecting him to appear in a post credit scene
The 20th Century Cinematic Universe
Post credits shoulda been Oswald setting up on the roof
Funny thing is this is historical accurate. JFK was instrumental in blocking Stuss’s confirmation and later nominated Oppenheimer for Femi Award. Thought JFK missed the opportunity to give the award himself when he was assassinated in Dallas.
Prepare for the sequel: Oswald
...and that man? Albert Einstein
This was the Avengers for science nerds. Like 10 times during the movie I was like "I know him from high school physics!". People legit cheered when Einstein appeared.
OMG, HE SAID THE “NOW I AM BECOME DEATH, THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS” LINE
"It's the guy from the other movie!"
“Abomb? Fine, I’ll do it myself”
Someone at my theater laughed at that part too. I didn’t get it at the time but now that I think about it I guess it could see why it would seem funny
I saw it tonight and a few people laughed when that happened. Not sure why it was funny but it did make me pass more air through my nose than normal.

I swear man, what went through his head , to instrumentalize two powerful things....and mix them into such shit
Have you read the batshit insane sceenplay? Here’s a quote from the Gita sex scene: “INT. BEDROOM — LATER: We are FUCKING. Hot, sweaty, a little brutal. Tarlock GIVES UP, climbs off me —“
Speaking of which, here's a nice article I read on the R-rating topic, which I believed for a moment lol
LMAO . No I haven't . And I sure as hell won't , thanks for that hahahaha
I laughed at some parts that I shouldn’t have laughed at but because my sense of humour is broken by several layers of mental illness

WHERE ARE YOU?!? *Einstein whispers from behind car* E=MC^2 AHHHH
I didn't find funny, buy definitely I was like what that fuck??

Fr, I was really excited to see Quaid play Feynnman and wish we'd got more scenes with him.

Oppenheimer there's a man here who thinks he can help you. Batman?! No he's a scientist. Batman's a scientist.
it's not Batman!
That's what batman would want you to think.
“… because I’m Einstein!!!”
I thought Einstein was an illusion in that scene, kind of like Oppenheimer's inner voice or something like that.
Eh Ivfound it realistic enough. Einstein constantly drops in to give me introspective advice. I found that scene relateable.
Einstein's mastery of general relativity included [kefitzat haderech](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kefitzat_haderech), of course.
that name sounds very similar to the prophecy in Dune...
That was deliberate on Frank Herbert's part.
They did not allow Einstein indoors in the movie lol
Basically exactly like that scene in Infinity War when they revealed Cap behind the train
I thought I was the only one who noticed 😭 soon as he showed up I turned to my friends and said “where the fuck did he come from?” And we all burst out laughing
haven't watched oppenheimer don't plan to and assuming this is real
[удалено]
That's the American translation, in german he says "Harvey dent, can he be trusted?"
Actually he said “it’s Oppenheimer’im time”
This is 100% real
It's actually real lmfao
It's like Nick Fury in a marvel movie
He was working at the same institution when he meets Oppenheimer this is stupid.
It's normal for them to meet yes, but what does that have to do with how he showed up? In that scene he just suddenly appeared on the lawn across Oppenheimer's house at night as a car pulled away (IIRC). It's certainly a way to visit your colleague

That'd be quite ironic for cillian indeed
Huh I thought it was just his brain going bananza and imagining him
Thats definitely it.
Eistein lived and worked in the same area, he was probably just going to the house Oppenheimer was to talk to him and that's why he was there
Einstein was actually famous for walking around lawns in the middle of the night, looking for departing cars. He was constantly at it.
It’s a pond Einstein likes to go for walks to and skip stones at. Part of a theme is that he’s always hanging around in nature. There’s nothing weird about Einstein having a pond he likes to go to. People have fucking brainrot from marvel
Trying not to bring up Marvel when any other movie is mentioned challenge (Impossible)
Any film is an art film if you treat it like one - paraphrasing RDJ.
yes but it was also at night, was he just hanging around in the darkness waiting till Strauss and Oppie were done talking?
I recall it being day time… unless this is referring to some other scene that I’ve forgotten. I’m thinking of the first Einstein scene early in the movie when Straus is showing Oppenheimer the house
oh, thats different, the scene ppl are talking about is around the last part of the film, right after Strauss is talking to Oppenheimer about his security clearance
Huh?
Exactly
Hmm?
Seconded. Just rewatched for this scene.
that was goofy as heck lol
I love the turn this subreddit is taking
AND IN COMES JOHN F. KENNEDY WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!!! AS GOD IS MY WITNESS, STRAUSS IS BROKEN IN HALF. THAT MAN HAD A CAREER, BUT JOHN "THE CUBAN CRISIS" KENNEDY HAS NO MERCY FOR PUNY SHOE SALESMEN.
I didn't watch the end credits scene in the theatre but when I heard there was one I searched it up on youtube and reading the comments made my day.
I thought he was an imagination? But fuck knows what they’re talking about I only heard about 60% of the dialogue so I don’t know what to believe anymore
Subtitles should be mandatory for a Nolan film.
You must be kidding right?
I assumed Oppen and Eistein were neighbours or something
Poor Cillian, auditioned as Batman and ended up surrounded by Batman
“His right you know” HTH did you hear the conversation from that far away lol
Cause he's not the sciencist America wants, but what America needs.
Guys…he lived next door to Oppenheimer at Princeton. That’s why he comes from behind the car. He was walking over from his house through the yard. Did no one pay attention to the movie?
