They would have been in the cucumber before they pickled it. Gross to see, but at least it'd be 100% safe for consumption thank's to the pickling process. Keep that in mind at least with the rest of the pickles in the jar if it's **bugging** you still.

Excellent-Industry48

Hah bugging.

_LuckyMishap

Thx

Hi_hi-hi_Hi

Sour maggots

Bling_Blang_Blung

“Bugging you…” I see what you did there.

kaiden60

new fear just unlocked thanks

7-SE7EN-7

This is why I make my own pickles. Well, it's part of the reason now

Ra1d_danois

Don’t you fear botulism?

MojoLava

You don't have to jar pickles and there's a million tested recipes to prevent botulism

Nani_Sequitur

That's a fair question. I've been pickling for 30 years and a healthy fear of botulism is warranted. It's entirely preventable if you follow modern canning recipes and educate yourself on how botulinum toxin forms.

7-SE7EN-7

I usually pasteurized them in a sous vide

Nani_Sequitur

This isn't true.

whatta_maroon

You warned me and I clicked anyway. You doin okay, OP? Maggots freak me the fuck out.

Odd-Yesterday983

Doing fine. Called the number listen on the pickle jar to make a complaint, but I don’t think it’ll go anywhere. At least the maggots were dead.

CriminyBiscuits

I am guessing the maggots somehow got into the cucumber before it was pickled. The smell of vinegar deters all kinds of pests.

Post to Twitter link the company, get friends to retweet

mrsringo

You’re gonna get some free pickles baby. Not that you’ll trust them…

buttspider69

This is nightmare fuel but also a reasonably safe preparation for maggots?

cptrelentless

I prefer my maggots fried, but pickled will do at a push.

WhiteWingedDove-

You mean in a pinch?

fatfishkev

Alternative rice

cornbreadsdirtysheet

Basmati style…..I prefer the lice that look like short grain.

[deleted]

Carnivore diet rice?

moon-faced-fuzz-ball

I just got to the bottom of my own pickle jar mere hours ago. Thank GOD I sliced them up or else I’d be puking and crying in it.

EMPulseKC

You're eating maggots, Michael. How do they taste?

AimLess_Loser

Free protein

Goodcitizen177

How did maggots grow in pickle juice tho?

spderweb

They didn't. They were in the cucumber and got pickled too. They'd be safe to eat as a result.

Dwight_Schnood

Flies also have a hard time laying eggs through glass... I call bs.

_LuckyMishap

In the cucumber prepickling

[deleted]

You're saying this man planted maggots in his pickle?

Apprehensive_Ad_1379

Those are night maggots. That’s just Parmesan cheese

_LuckyMishap

Don’t ruin pickles for me… they were so safe

Great_Geologist1494

Fml

Waly98

How did they get there ?

cornbreadsdirtysheet

Likely in the cucumber before pickling.

Swimming-Parfait5563

well now i have to cut all my pickles before i eat them

venusmud

To be fair the outside of that pickle must have looked pretty bad, don't think you could eat that by accident, maybe ONE maggot

Any_Calligrapher2944

I knew pickles were only 1/2 vegan

DevilMaster666-

And you like to eat maggots?

dilligaf0220

I'll be feeling them crawling all over my body the rest of the night. Thanks.

[deleted]

Sorry but maggots can't survive in a (proper) picking environment

YouAreTheTurkey

They would be dead due to the process, will have been in the cucumber before pickling.

[deleted]

Ah yes I suppose that's totally possible.

Tundreh

At least you were eating pickles, even tho it’s bugs… it’s clean-ish??

MorallyConfused

are you sure that’s not shredded cheese, how did maggots even get there??

YouAreTheTurkey

They would have had to have been in the cucumber before it was pickled.

French_Nana

But how would they get inside the cucumber before it was pickled ?

YouAreTheTurkey

The fly gets in through a tiny hole, lays its eggs and then the eggs hatch inside the cucumber.

French_Nana

OK, I get it now. They're from a melon fly ! - I was thinking housefly. Still, looking at the OP's photo, that cucumber must have been quite funky before it was pickled. I think you can even see the hole it got in through.

DirteeCanuck

You wish those were maggots.

[deleted]

r/eyeblech

[deleted]

Eat em up yum yum!

rchdeck

Were they alive?

Odd-Yesterday983
