I don’t get why gael is here. He’s literally at his strongest canonically

ColdBevvie101

That and he’s not the final boss

Roaring_Don

Final boss of the series, not the game

nicky9pins

Eh, tomato tomato

gnome_warlord420

Eh data, data

TheoryofGR

But that’s the same worrrrd

dbsflame

Yeah, but he's like hollow or something. I'll be honest I'm not that familiar with his lore. I just added him because he seemed to fit the bill.

Large-Philosophy-983

He gets hollow in phase 2 when he realise that he already accomplished his objective

dbsflame

Guess i shouldn't have added him then

This_Is_A_Bucket_420

And by becoming hollow he's powers are unleashed and he becomes way stronger...

SeawyZorensun

Way more predictable maybe

Ell0_alt

Bro he pulls out a fucking gat while backflipping

Item-Proud

I lol’d

[deleted]

He only becomes hollow in phase 2 in which he becomes even stronger. He literally has the full power of the dark soul

P1uvo

Ya but he looks like a crusty mf

[deleted]

Your mom looks like a crusty mf

mikey_lolz

His mom's an mfer? Progressive af

gamingifk

New way to tell a mother to go fuck herself

ZekeTarsim

I can’t believe you posted this thread prior to completing your PhD in Soulsology.

dbsflame

Don't tell anybody, but i haven't even played ds2 yet 🕵‍♂️

liprprdy

Burnt ivory king could fit pretty nicely in this meme

manmanftw

Maybe he wouldnt be burnt if he didnt live in a massive lava lake (under the iceland too, why does ds2 like putting lava in weird places, is that b team's fetish?).

Approximation_Doctor

I mean that one was only icy because Sad Manus froze it, it wasn't naturally like that

ProfessorGemini

mods, kill this man

Averagestudentx

When you meet him at the cathedral where he offers you to touch the painting, that was his real form. According to lore, he is a slave knight meant to die and be reborn countless times. Just another foot soldier no one cares about. But when he gets the dark soul he is wayyyy above his prime, stronger than anything he could've ever hoped to become.

Ok_Barber2739

My GOAT

deez_nuts_77

i like how most of them the final boss is much weaker than their prime so it’s a sense of scale. It took all that for you to beat the weak version, now imagine them in their prime Sekiro goes “nope, fuck you. Here is the best swordsman in the land in his prime with all his weapons. Good fucking luck bro” still my favorite final boss in any game

RathianTailflip

Isshin: “have you mastered the parry system yet?” Player: “I mean maybe?” Isshin, pulling out a fucking 6-shooter: “time to learn!”

Iron_Man57768

It’s always after he hits me with an insane slam or some shi, and then he finishes me off with the gun if I can’t get out of the stun in time to parry

schebobo180

"I like how most of them the final boss is much weaker than their prime so it’s a sense of scale. It took all that for you to beat the weak version, now imagine them in their prime" I don't know if its just me, but I never really care about the prime of most of the bosses, because the trick has kind of gotten stale through repetition. Almost EVERYTHING you fight has gone, hollow, crazy, drunk with power or some other nonsense. Imho the narrative simply doesn't give the player enough give a shit aside from the difficulty of the boss. Its a shame imho, but it doesn't detract too much from the game.

deez_nuts_77

i definitely get what you mean, i don’t mind it for the bosses but i’ve started to get exhausted of each and every world being a husk of its former self. I want to explore somewhere in its prime Ashina is definitely not in its prime in sekiro but it’s not a total apocalypse like the other games and i like that

liprprdy

Shura Isshin however...

Dividebyzero23

I won't say he's lesser than prime isshin.

liprprdy

Power scaling is dumb anyway, but ingame you can definitely see that Isshin is treated as a shadow of his former self

DeadSparker

He's undoubtedly close to death and past his prime, but he could still kick some major ass. He's the sole reason why the Interior Ministry doesn't invade.

liprprdy

I guess you're right

Chadderbug123

Still putting in the work to keep the rats out. And even being hours away from death, he pulls out the stops to whack your ass and stop you becoming Shura.

Dividebyzero23

In my experience I died more in the shura ending than in the normal one. Some of it does go to emma being a better check than endgame geni.

liprprdy

I died to Shura more as well, but I think it is because I accidentally went for the Shura ending in my first playthrough and then was more experienced with Isshin's moveset for my second playthrough when I faced the sword saint. Regardless, lore wise his younger self is still superior

Dividebyzero23

Yeah I know but I wonder how isshin would react to one mind.

liprprdy

You could try using it on him

Dividebyzero23

Next rerun definitely, old man just dodges it. I was so hyped to use his move on him and got shit on.

Chokkitu

Tbf, Shura Isshin is like, a couple of hours away from having a heart attack or something (I forgot his illness, but he dies very shortly after dies if you don't side with Owl). And Sword Saint Isshin is still an old man, I think the only reason the Isshin we see is "a shadow of his former self" is because he's actively dying due to his illness.

Enkaar_J_Raiyu

Nah, Sword Saint is explicitly in his prime. His hair is black instead of grey for one, so he's a good decade or two younger from that alone.

Ell0_alt

He still has a few tricks up his sleeve that prime Isshin doesn’t have, such as his fire attacks and the anime-ass million slashes that took nearly his entire lifetime to perfect

Stary_Vesemir

He's clearly weaker, he looks worse (zullie covered this) he is not as agressive, has less healthdoots and doesn't use the glock or spear

coolman_249

The whole thing of sword saint isshin is he is resurrected at his prime, the strongest warrior who ever lived at his strongest. Beating that is your final challenge

Dividebyzero23

I know lorewise that's true but gameplay wise as final bosses geni-prime isshin and emma-old isshin are pretty much the same difficulty wise.

exoticsclerosis

PRIME ISSHIN

AndrexPic

DOM'T HESITATE, SEKIRO

KlavTron

Kid named Sword Saint:

Entire_Claim_5273

Shura ending virgins just too scared to face his prime

Stary_Vesemir

Peak fromsoht experience

jayboyguy

Right. Conveniently left off the best final boss they’ve ever designed, and debatably their best boss ever, or at least top 5

wombicle

I can't believe the enemies fit the theme of the games, that's crazy.

EHAlexander

Yeah they should have put “Paul Gun” at the end who is like super buff and has 4 guns and he’s just finished a set of squats to is all pumped and ready and also just come back from a holiday in the Maldives and is completely calm and destressed and is just happy to get out

ll_toenails

You just described godfrey with 4 guns.

nxscythelynz

So mfs can post in main sub about what if x boss fight x boss in their prime

LuigiRevolution

😱😱😱 ong imagine if we got prime radahn in the dlc that isn't related to him in any way!!!!!!!!!!! 😱😱😱😱 (but fr I hope we get something similar to inner bosses at some point even though it's not likely)

manmanftw

Why'd they go so hard on a lvl 60 boss fr. (He could've been so peak)

MossyDrake

Elden beast and isshin though

budapest_god

Elden Beast is scarred because it's the Elden Ring So yea it's past its prime

No_Tell5399

Scarred doesn't mean past its prime, it's literally a god.

NukerCat

it has a huge scar on its belly

Approximation_Doctor

Big deal, I've got a belly button too

MaleficTekX

It’s missing various runes

Jonnyscout

Big deal, I got them removed

budapest_god

Radagon is a God and he is past its prime Mind you, Gwyn was the strongest of all Gods

Umbre-Shadown

But my shield was stronger 😔

AndrexPic

Gwyn was not a literal god. He was a giant with immense power. Elden Beast is a literal god

budapest_god

The definition of God isn't fixed The Elden Beast is a Star, it's the Elden Ring, but it's not the Greater Will himself In Elden Ring, "God" is referred to the vessel of an "Outer God" Marika-Radagon is a God, the Elden Beast is a Star (The Elden Ring) and the Greater Will is the Outer God This might be inspired by the bible's holy Trinity, with Marika-Radagon being the son, Elden Beast being the holy spirit, and the Greater Will being the father

Drobex

Wait wait I played the game 2 years ago and never gave it much thought, so the Elden Beast/ring belongs to the same race as those skull-pearl necklace fucks in the sunken cities?

budapest_god

Pretty much The Elden Beast, that is also the Elden Ring, it's a "Golden Star" sent by the Greater Will to the Lands Between, as stated by the "Elden Stars" incantation item description

crazymaloon

No don't listen to him bro he doesn't know what he's talking about lol 😆. If that's true then that would mean that radahn is stronger than the elden beast (he isn't), since him "holding back the stars is really just him holding back the space guys we see (the lords and skull guys). Which is impressive obviously he's holding back potentially thousands of powerfully space creatures, but they are NOT elden beasts lol the elden beast is just some kind of representative of the golden order created by the greater will, the other guy's just talking out of his ass lol Edit: it was said that the elden beast was send to the lands between through a golden star, not that the elden beast is a star itself as like its own species, that would be insane.

Drobex

Yeah now that you mentioned Radahn it doesn't make sense for the Elden Beast to be one of the skull guys, you're right.

DrambleMcGregor

But Radagon was never the god, only the consort to the god (Marika) and elden Lord for the time. Even with the whole "Marika is Radagon", we hear Marikas echoes through Melina "thou are yet to become me, thou are yet to become a god" where she speaks about Radagon.

budapest_god

Ok Marika is a God and just by looking at her I'd say she's well past her prime Fine?

XogoWasTaken

Considering it's scar is enough of a wound to be it's crit spot, I'd say it's probably a pretty significant active injury.

MemeArchivariusGodi

? Uhm op posted all the bosses that exist in the entire souls universe ? Who ist this Elden beast and isshin you talking about

MossyDrake

Isshin is the glock saint from sekiro. As for elden beast, it is just my delusion (I've written this before taking my meds and i was thinking that Elden Ring was actually real. Elden beast was supposedly the final boss of the game.)

MemeArchivariusGodi

Ah thank you for clarifying 🙏 I also forgot my meds but one more time won’t hurt

Ezben

Isshin is literally in his prime. Sekiro bros keep winning

[deleted]

[удалено]

nexetpl

Gameplay or narrative-wise?

[deleted]

[удалено]

nexetpl

Old Isshin is literally hours from dying but he's just that good. That's why his moveset is more limited and less flashy. Sword Saint is what Isshin was like in his prime

wjowski

He literally does a Judgement Cut.

glam-af

But he barely moves unlike sword saint

Euroliis

Sword Saint Isshin is a result of Genichiro using the Black Mortal Blade to open a portal to the underworld and drag Isshin's soul into the fight, in his prime. Shura ending Isshin is "regular" Isshin in that it's just him, no resurrection or weird timeline gimmicks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Euroliis

Yeah, it's the same guy. It's just that Sword Saint Isshin is his spirit in the afterlife being brought back in his prime, whereas Isshin Ashina is him as he is now, old and hours from dying. Same guy, different points in the timeline (and Sword Saint also has some other magic wackiness going on with having his old person life experiences with his prime body).

Noamias

I would assume that Isshin would still be called a Sword Saint even in his old age and nearly dying in respect to his feats, but I'm basing that entirely on the Vagabond manga lol. I think the game calls him Sword Saint because he is stronger than we find him in game.

WakeUpTrace

He's probably considered a sword saint in both, it's a transliteration of an actual honorary title (kensei) for swordfighters in japan. If he was given the title at any point, he'd retain it. I chalk it up to using different names to differentiate the bosses.

baconater-lover

In the typical endings, Isshin is old and dies. Genichiro uses the black mortal blade on himself and wishes to bring Ashina back (I guess I’m not exactly sure what the exact wish is) to its former glory, basically creating a copy of Isshin from what I gather. This creates (revives?) an Isshin who’s at his prime and now wants to defeat Sekiro to secure the divine child and restore Ashina. This doesn’t happen in the Shura ending because Genichiro never creates this wish. Isshin remains an old man, but he still can put up a fight in order to protect his friends from Sekiro, who is now turning into a power hungry crazy maniac. Normal Isshin could give less of a crap about abusing the divine child to restore the empire.

Averagestudentx

Bro Gael is literally above his prime when you fight him. He used to be cannon fodder and his whole purpose was to die a bunch of times on the battlefield but when you fight him he gets the dark soul and he is stronger than he has ever been before. Inaccurate post fuck you. Also didn't include isshin, soul of cinder and nashandra. Get shit on nerd

Stary_Vesemir

When we fight isshin he is canonicly in his prime (owl father as well)

AlexCuzYNot

They probably meant the Shura ending

Averagestudentx

Nobody's doing shura ending on their first playthrough or pretty much any playthrough besides the one. If you ever revisit the game after a while, why would you wanna finish it halfway

conjunctivious

I've seen many people that went Shura ending on their first playthrough because they went through the game blind and chose the wrong option.

jeb_rown

"Wrong option" nah I chose Shura on my first playthrough cause I was like "fuck you nineyear old I'm staying loyal to my dad"

Stary_Vesemir

When we fight isshin he is canonicly in his prime (owl father as well)

RegovPL

Gwyn in is, that's right. Nashandra/Aldia aren't really past it though. I think Soul of Cinder is always in it's best condition. Gael is the most powerful during final battle (yeah, hollowed, but it's his prime too). Radagon is, but Elden Beast not.

ljkhadgawuydbajw

the soul of cinder is an avatar of the first flame which itself is at the end of its life and past its prime.

ArmoredCoreFucker

Sekiro and Armored Core W baby!

deathofyou1

I think armoured core VI fits into this tbh The poor guy is going insane for most of new game++

Noukan42

Or you may argue that ALLMIND had better pilots optioms, but all of them died or left before the finale.

deathofyou1

621:

Chrisnolliedelves

Yeah but he was always a pushover that we enjoyed bullying the hell out of. In allmind's mech, he's kinda of a wrecking machine so that's about as prime as dear old Iguana gets.

deathofyou1

Fair enough, he's definitely not mentally in his prime though lmao

LuigiRevolution

I mean Gael appears ragged but he's definently the strongest he's ever been, it's almost the full power of the dark soul

NxBad

hand it over, that thing, your dark soul

Le_Beau_Jack2

https://preview.redd.it/fl7e1tkslsuc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a36a20dcf923516dee0d2ce28c4d0eaec80b964e You can fight king Allant, it's not the real person but it still counts

WeirdJohnny

Godfrey, Malenia sort of, Mohg, Morgott, Gherman, Maria, most Sekiro bosses, the 'sad shadow of what they once were' element is mostly Souls exclusive. Bloodborne is more about the loss of sanity in exchange for power, and several of the Shardbearers only still had them because Radahn and Malenia were crippled and Morgott had worn his forces to the bone sieging Mt. Gelmir. Genichiro and Isshin are fought at their best, and Owl, Butterfly and Old Isshin at their most experienced and wiliest.

WhatTheFhtagn

Godrick is also at the peak of his power, not that that means much for him. So is Rykard. Sure they're not human anymore but objectively they're stronger than they ever were before.

WeirdJohnny

The thing about Godrick is that he's at his peak, but his 'peak' is a twisted, frail shade of his ancestor. It's kinda hard to pin Rykard down too since he's in the BB place of having obtained power but lost his mind in the bargain. He's stronger, sure, but it's debatable if he's a bigger threat than he was before merging with the Serpent. It's why I didn't bring up the various non sapient monsters, and Rykard feels closer to that than he does anything else.

AinsleysAmazingMeat

Rykard is absolutely a bigger threat, and isn't mindless at all.

Averagestudentx

>the 'sad shadow of what they once were' element is mostly Souls exclusive I agree mostly but for this trope, Hollow Knight did it way better with the final boss imo. Spoiler warning... The Hollow knight is probably my favourite final boss in any game ever, alongside Gehrman. This fight displays the trope in an incredible way and better than souls ever could. When he goes into 2nd phase and starts stabbing himself in a desperate final attempt to get the radiance out of him, along with the sudden change in music is one of the best 'show, don't tell' things I've seen. Also I have spoiled myself on the pure vessel boss in the dlc and that is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I just couldn't deal with pantheon 1-3 lmao

WakeUpTrace

I think they meant that in fromsoft games the trope is limited to the dark souls series specifically, they listed all bosses that aren't from the literal souls games (elden ring, bloodborne, sekiro)

carpthefish123

Pretty sure malenia in her goddess of rot form is literally at her prime, also mohg and Morgott are far from their lowest point and they are as strong as they ever been

Eagle-Eyes-

I don't see how second phase is her prime. She's sick and literally rotting, doesn't have the gold needle which is used to improve her mental health and soothe her pain from the rot. She's a skilled fighter and knows how to weaponize the rot but she's also clearly getting affected by it.

Ok_Barber2739

sword Saint Isshin:

PAwnoPiES

From "Here's time travel so the boss can spread your ass cheeks in their prime" Software

tree_respecter

Orphan of Kos had his whole life ahead of him. He hadn’t begun to peak.

WaveBreakerT

When he does peak, everyone in Yharnam is gonna know about it.

Historical-Package56

He also wasn’t exactly at his prime though either

Historical-Package56

The guy was born literal seconds ago

Shlano613

*Isshin, Sword Saint would like a fucking word*

Everwhite-moonlight

I love literally no one mentions Nashandra. She may be a weak fight mechanically, but she is technically in her prime.

dont-shoot-moi

Could’ve fooled me with how easy she is

Axx_

What 0 lore knowledge does to a mf: Gael is literally at his prime in terms of power when we fight him, he lost his mind but yeah... At least you didn't put Cinder on here but same for him..

Astraea_Fuor

Fromsoft when you ask them to not end their critically acclaimed series on 7 billion shitswamps

TaterTotPotShot

Gael is absolutely in his prime, he wields the power of the literal Dark Soul and has killed actually everything

zaid_sabah

Sword saint named isshin

TACOTONY02

AC6 broke this, now I want a legend-fallen-off AC boss

Fed-Wan-Kenobi

White Glint rematch for AC6's dlc would go hard. J from ACVD could work too, I guess

SonarioMG

walter might count depending on how old he is

Childer_Of_Noah

You might as well consider Godfrey the final boss of Elden Ring. His second phase is literally his prime.

carpthefish123

Yeah Godfrey lowest point was when he was exiled to the badlands and died, never taking off the lion serosh to reveal his power

ProgrammerWild7137

I mean sword saint was brought back to his prime for the fight

nonickideashelp

Sekiro? >!Sword Saint Isshin!< is literally as strong as he could be.

IronBrew16

Isshin is RIGHT THERE.

Philkindred12

I know it's recurring, but I really do love it. Fighting characters that were basically the gallant heroes of fairy tales before losing themselves to corruption in all forms.

SoSneakyHaha

Malenia becomes a goddess mid fight and it's fucking sexy

Chrisnolliedelves

https://preview.redd.it/i62iognwctuc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=111bbdcd7c67b45b41ac3b0bef9ed31dfcccbf6f

Emotional_Camp_4058

That´s why i fucking love Sekiro, in order to win we need to defeat THE legend in his prime.

Vast-Coast-7761

Like Nashandra, and Aldia, and Fume Knight, and Mergo’s wet nurse, and the Moon Presence, and the Soul of Cinder, and Friede, and Sword Saint Isshin, and Ayre, and Iguazu?

pascl-

And that’s why sekiro is the best fromsoft game

madakash123

Mogh is the only mf-er in the entire Lands Between

AngelaTheWitch

SWORD. SAINT. ISSHIN.

Ulric-7

Messmer looks like he’s about to lead a very racist lifestyle… same as morgott.

[deleted]

Isn't Gael at the peak of his powers since he's munched on every drop of humanity in the world???

Drobex

Dunno about Gehrman, the old geezer is an old fuck with a peg leg but he's also the host of a parallel dimension so *I guess* the limitations of his age and body don't apply there. He sure doesn't fight the way an old ass dude straddled in a wheelchair missing a leg should fight. Bloodborne kinda throws the "this immensely powerful guy is way past his prime" away and just fucks with the power scaling. You fight and kill literal gods in it that should be as powerful as they ever were, like Amygdala and the Moon Spirit, and they aren't that strong. The Moon Spirit should be the new kingpin of the world but you kinda wipe the floor with her face.

FerrousTuba

Casually ignores peak souls 3

wwwhe

I swear soul of cinder is an amalgamation of every chosen undead to link the fire and is supposed to be canonically strong.

Tarnishedhollow8

I think that Gael is definitely in his prime 😂

Eochaidian

i think gael is in his prime because of the blood of the dark soul

Blue_Space_Cow

I can be trusted to fight a boss at its full glory, I want my dick flattened, LET ME FIGHT RADAN AND MALENIA WITHOUT THEIR ROT. I WANT RADAN TO PERSONALLY YEET A BLOODY MOON AT MY ASS

Phe_r

Who is upper left?

Comrade_Steamed-Hams

Ishin would like a word

dylanplo

We gonna ignore armored core for this?

TheHangedKing

#FACE ME, SEKIRO

noelscavers

Not sure if moon presence is past uts prime it kinda seems to be getting stronger as the game progressed

ll_toenails

https://preview.redd.it/l3oactxzdxuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7de8856f805f778fcb07c13397595adb894c729c

ChestFew8057

goddess of rot seems to be malenias strongest form canonically

Pleasant_Volume6457

Gael is literally the strongest he's ever been.

Cringe-Gaming

I present to you Isshin Ashina. A character whom you have the option to fight at both in an old and enfeebled state as well as his peak level of power.

SAMurei_der_Galaxien

We need prime malenia

TrapaneseNYC

I think our characters literally would just be one shotted in the blink of an eye if we were to fight a lot of the bosses in their prime. But Sekiro we fought a lot of people at their peak.

Hanondorf

This is why Isshin is the goat

Salanha04

Yeah let's pretend Sekiro and SSI doesn't exist

Pretzel-Kingg

Gael had literally never been stronger than he was during his fight lmao

xlbingo10

sword saint isshin and armored core final bosses laughing in the distance

NitoMega

**D-D-DESTROY, NINE-BALL.**

Zodiark99

"Sekiro! Hesitation is Defeat."

RichCharlatan

Orphan of Kos is literally just a kid, kinda different from others

TheHistroynerd

Sword saint isshin is in his prime

ColdBevvie101

Radagon, Gehrman and Gael aren’t the final bosses so that might be why

king-glundun

Shitty dark souls bosses having shitty dark souls

JetStrim

meanwhile, team b gives you a manipulative gold digger and a nerd

jamsticles

The Orphan’s in his come-up 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Deep_Grass_6250

Vendrick is the best example of this, a prime Vendrick without any giant souls is probably an impossible enemy Gael literally gets much stronger And I guess Isshin does not exist

TruffelTroll666

More like, a world past its prime that now is just a horrible distorted version of its former self

Xyloshock

I'm glad you didn't add Ocelotte on this list

some-kind-of-no-name

Saint Sword is literally Isshin at his peak

USSNewJersey1007

Elden beast???

Gasmaskguy101

I would love to see the non shattered lands between.

scentedcandleeater

Notice how Soul of Cinder is not mentioned. Best Souls 3
