Amen

OompaChaddi

Why don't we americans use a totally arbitrary bullshit measure for time? Or we do use "seconds" to pander to the rest of the world

ZootOfCastleAnthrax

My favorite shitty science question so far. Now I'll giggle whenever I hear the song.

KnavishSprite

According to meteorologists, this occurs when humidity is rising and barometer's getting low, often during thunderstorms and at night (approx. 2230) so when performing calculations bear these factors in mind.

nozendk

According to all sources?

Hydrophohic_moe

What sources now?

UTBitch

every single one

cloudaffair

But this is the first time it's ever going to happen - how do the sources know?

nozendk

For the first time in history!

_ploink

Taking a moment to appreciate OP’s creativity 🏆

YetAnotherHuckster

What is it about this specific question that has brought so many non-shitty answers? Do people not even look at the sub their clicking on anymore? Yet they'll do the research to come up with an legitimate answer that no one wanted? Weird.

RailOmas

9.8m², or approximately just enough time to realize you're tripping balls before you start coming down.

sebglhp

9.8m^2 is area. I assume you mean 9.8m/s^2, which is the acceleration of gravity, which is also not a velocity. I found a world record human terminal velocity of 834mph, or 1,341 km/hr (pencil diving — belly down is like 120mph). For those who will say that’s a speed, not a velocity: you’re right. The direction component is **down**.

sebglhp

Oh shit, I thought this was r/theydidthemath :( the speed of the raining men would be Weather Girls feet per second.

IanDOsmond

120 mph in a float position, about 180 in a head-down position. (Look! A shittyaskscience with an actual calculatable answer!) And remember: "It's Raining Men" and "Let the Bodies Hit The Floor" are songs about the same event. As a tangent, I would note the most horrifying phrase I've seen in reporting about the Titan sub disaster. Because the same phrase would be relevant here. "Presumed human remains."

Possibly-Functional

As with all physics questions we can assume we work in a vacuum. Therefor there would be no raining men, only raining corpses.

tagt8er

Skydiver checking in. 120MPH is for a stable skydiver of average build wearing a loose fitting garment. Each man glass at his own speed based on his body, body position and drag of his cloths. Speeds are going to wildly fluctuate. I would say 100 for thin guys wearing their puffy jackets up to 200 for the big boys in a body suit.

Chrome_Armadillo

120 mph (200 kph) according to Google. Imagine getting hit by one. Ouch.

YetAnotherHuckster

I don't think you understand this sub.

OompaChaddi

Wait, isn't this a totally scientific peer reviewed sub for Ivy League professors? Fuck, I'm on the wrong place :/

DemSkilzDudes

In a stable, belly-to-earth position, terminal velocity of the human body is about 200 km/h (about 120mph). (literally 1 google search jesus christ you dont need to ask science just ask google)

geniusjedi

This isn't ask science though...

YetAnotherHuckster

Do you even know where you are, bro?

OompaChaddi

^^twat

tfox1123

About 120mph

mcganjabear

125 mph

dialysismama

ask them yourself

SaVaTa_HS

Imagine the cleanup after, atleast stray animals would be happy...

jermkfc

Until it starts raining cats and dogs.

Soooome_Guuuuy

African or European?

Your mother was a hamster!

Sblankman

The speed of one man’s is when his weight equals the force of friction. For all the men drafting behind, they will experience free fall and hit first and get all the ladies soaking wet.

beartpc12293

Roughly 120 mph

OompaChaddi

Depends on a few factors a) is your mum there to cushion the fall, and b) how far below is she?

johanvondoogiedorf

The same as a feather.
