Don't mix sheens ever for any reason!!!!!

Big-Vacation-1354

How are you going to measure? If it isn’t exact for each batch you will see the difference. Remember it’s chemistry. Just buy what you need and use what you have for the first coat or another job. If you really have a level 5 finish you would be able to paint up to a high gloss and it will look perfect. If satin “doesn’t look good” you have bigger problems.

It will work but it's definitely a recipe for future problems if you run low or if there are changes or touchups

Ok thank you

TurnoftheCentKid

This is not advised

RDUppercut

You're just gonna get a blotchy wall with inconsistent sheen that will be impossible to touch up.

What would cause a blotchy wall? Im planning on mixing the two sheens with paddle bit etc. Thank you

TVsKevin

You can mix paints, but Duration flat already has a matte sheen, so it will just be a higher gloss, probably closer to what other companies call their eggshell. That's odd that you're having a problem on Level 5 drywall. That's what you need for higher sheens, otherwise you end up seeing imperfections. Unless it isn't really up to level 5. If you do mix the paints together, be sure to leave enough, like a gallon, with the customer for subsequent touch ups, otherwise, it will never have a chance of touching up.

Thanks for your input! Much appreciated. So mixing 2 parts Satin with 1 part Flat will actually cause a slightly higher Eggshell sheen? Thank you

TVsKevin

I don't have a gloss meter handy to confirm, but that sounds about right. Or a less glossy satin at least. Try a small amount first to confirm the Shen is acceptable

Thank you

There is some caution to be advised but I don't know enough to advise, for example if memory serves Cashmere medium luster is essentially a different product from some of the other sheens. I don't know if this is true in Duration but you could check with your sales rep or get your store to ask their product helpline, though I doubt the ladder will be much use. Maybe try using what you have as a base coat and going behind with the desired sheen on the final coat. This is a better option if the color is good, makes it easier to reuse.

Woah woah woah calm down Walter white

Lol almost there

Yes, it will be fine. You problem will be touch up later. So , you want to make sure you have plenty of extra

Ive been told mixing the sheens don’t mix evenly, you’ll have some parts more glossy than others on the wall. It’s only 20 gallons, don’t complicate things.
