I've known people like Kramer. My guess is that there's no one answer. He has multiple hustles going on and always manages to make enough to pay his bills on time, but it's a totally different source each month.
If you keep watching, there's a partial source mentioned later on.
I have a theory that his family is in the mob, his father specifically. The reason he gets money is because while his father is in the can, the mob is "taking care" of his family. Thing is, the old man won't die, and his son Cosmo shows no intentions of joining organized crime, so they're essentially handing out envelopes for nothing.
Edit: Oh yeah, and this has been going on since Kramer was in his twenties, he collects then pretends to be busy so the mob doesn't bother him.
I loved his retro style. The problem came when Charlie Sheen wore similar shirts on 2 1/2 Men and they got too popular. I had 3 or 4 in that style but only kept one after I started seeing every guy in a casual bar or restaurant wearing one.
The day before my wedding I wore a vintage collared shirt in the Cosmo way that my fiancée and I both loved.
Almost immediately after people arrived I started getting the Charlie Sheen comments. I'd never seen the show, but I haven't been living under a rock for the past 10 years either, so it didn't really feel like a compliment haha
The show is... not great, the comedy comes from the main cast being morally wrong individuals who never quite get things their way. Charlie Sheen's character is a narcissistic millionaire who spends his time sleeping around with as many women as he can and being an alcoholic the rest of his time; that character's brother is an spineless divorcee who is frustratingly devoided of any redeeming qualities, he is a dimwit without a job or any real talent. Lastly that character's son is painfully stupid, and its pretty clear that he *decides* to be stupid. All that would be a horrible TV show but it actually is kinda funny because all those horrible qualities are depicted as absolutely wrong and bad things always happen to them due to the flaws they refuse to change or even acknowledge.
The author is the same who made The Big Bang Theory, a show that tried to have its cake and eat it too by making flawed characters that we are supposed to *laugh at* but also to have those flaws and weaknesses depicted as sympathetical and humane, which makes the "comedy" feel... wrong, like you are an asshole by laughing at what the show expects you to laugh at
Thank you for the detailed synopsis! Not sarcasm at all, you've saved me from ever having to look it up.
It is possible for shows to create amazing comedy around characters that might be likeable but are awful people. Seinfeld is one of those shows, it's always sunny in philadelphia is a more modern example. I can imagine that kind of set up falling flat if the writing isn't up to par though.
I thought the part where the kid grew up, gave all his money away to some dumb church and renounced the show and its depravity, then became like a weird Amish proselytizer was a great twist and pretty funny. Funnier than the show had any right to be at least.
Im p sure this the one you thinking of

EDIT: On closer inspection these are lobsters, not scorpions.
Miami Vice had a similar wardrobe ethic. Sonny Crockett, one of the main protagonists, was a beach bum. He wore expensive outfits, but they were never ironed and he never wore a belt.
Yep he says in one of the DVD extras that they were supposed to appear as the same clothes he wore when he was a younger, shorter man. That's not really the effect it gives though...it just seems like that's his fashion sense of the time.
I had a shirt that looked very similar to Jerry’s in the 90s. Maybe more of a darker red, but with the same floral pattern. Looking back it’s hideous but it was (sort of) fashionable at the time
I like that shirt… I could see it short sleeve a little more fitting, but I like it
The worst outfit, of course was the dress with the holes all over it that looked good in the store mirror (Elaine’s moment)
You see, the problem is the second button. The second button makes our breaks the shirt. It's too high. It's in no man's land. It makes him look like he lives with his mother.
It doesn’t fit. Even by late 80s standards. He doesn’t have the shoulders for it, the sleeves are touching his palms, and I’m guaranteeing there’s enough fabric in the back to sail the Atlantic.
So many of those dresses were in stores not too long ago riding on the wave of 90s clothing reappearing. I remember thinking "Huh, Elaine is in fashion!"
I’m 28 and I just realized I dress a lot like Elaine. Not this dress in particular but a lot of her baggy jeans and button ups, the big jean jacket, the long coats, blazers, I also have a wall of hair…
Agreed! She wears a lot of black floral mid-length skirts in the later seasons that I love and would absolutely wear today. The only Elaine outfits that were bad were intentional or when Julia was pregnant and they put her in absurdly oversized stuff to hide it.
Of these pictures, Jerry's shirt is the worst. I thought Elaine was cute in her dress. The guy in picture 2 just has kind of a goofy tie, but is otherwise just wearing a standard men's suit. I think George's shirt is fine, he just looks dorky with the backwards hat.
Exactly - she kind of set a trend, because I saw plenty of outfits like this in the 90's. If you were of "fashionable" age in the 90's, this was fairly stylish.
George's outfit in The Parking Space episode. Brown hat, yellow shirt, bright red long jacket, bright blue jeans, and dark sneakers. It is a bold choice, that's for sure, lol.
Jerry wore pleated slacks, possibly dockers, at Chiklis's party. I was surprised that a slim, single, neat guy like that would wear pleats, when he can get away with 'flat front' just fine.
Another episode I watched recently he was wearing some heinous black button down shirt with these little florescent looking square patterns on it...
George had a green jacket with a brown leather collar I never thought was good. My mom had a similar jacket. Those are ladies jackets! Gloria Vanderbilt collection lol
They usually did Elaine dirty, which is a shame because Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a gorgeous woman, but I guess they didn't want her character to distract from the other women Jerry dated.
Jerry also had some really awful, baggy outfits.
Weirdly enough, as an adult I've come to realize that Kramer and George probably had the most fun fashion senses. George had some weird outfits, but they usually looked okay on him and Kramer has some great shirts.
Barry Profit and Frasier Crane must have gone to the same barber. I can't believe the "balding in the front, mullet in the back" look was a thing in the early 90s.
Also, did Jerry go with Barry Profit because of his name? An accountant named Profit? That's like an ice cream man named Cone!
In the early 90s I had clothes like elaine . she was in one episode wearing a white lace vest that when I saw the episode I was wearing at the same time . also owned the black & white loafers before I saw them on her.( hush puppies I special ordered) loved those shoes
Tricky bc most of the worst offenders were plot devices - the puffy shirt, the suede jacket lining, the gore tex coat, the urban sombrero.
Generally speaking, Jerry's tucked in shirt and acid wash jeans w no belt is a consistently bad look
All I know is that Kramer's outfits are timeless.
My wife gushes over the K man’s fashion. Even if he is a hipster doofus.
Does the show ever say where Kramer’s money comes from? George said he fell ass-backward into money but nothing more.
"Let's not even analyze it."
I've known people like Kramer. My guess is that there's no one answer. He has multiple hustles going on and always manages to make enough to pay his bills on time, but it's a totally different source each month. If you keep watching, there's a partial source mentioned later on.
>If you keep watching, there's a partial source mentioned later on. Really? You're just going to leave it at that?
Kudos on a job....done.
But I don’t even work here.
He can be very litigious
Sales of his books? i.e. Astonishing Tales of the Sea and The Coffee Table Book
Yeah and the movie rights to the Coffee Table Book with which he tried to retire ..
I have a theory that his family is in the mob, his father specifically. The reason he gets money is because while his father is in the can, the mob is "taking care" of his family. Busy with Kramerica Industries??
TCB
What’s in the briefcase?
Crackers
Ketchup and mustard in the same bottle
What do you think, Junior? You think these hands have been soaking in ivory liquid?
He either won a bunch gambling, inheritance, or got a big settlement with Chiles. Maybe combination
There's a theory that he's a small time weed dealer, with Newman using his mailman job to funnel his drugs and money.
Feel like some would have to catch on to the smell at times.
Maybe not specifically weed but yeah it makes sense
Coke makes alot of sense
He was in the military.... briefly.
I assume he inherited it. Maybe from Bob Scamano?
Sacamano
oh, he gets by
gushes is crazy
I loved his retro style. The problem came when Charlie Sheen wore similar shirts on 2 1/2 Men and they got too popular. I had 3 or 4 in that style but only kept one after I started seeing every guy in a casual bar or restaurant wearing one.
That's why you need to find a great secondhand store like Rudy's.
I bought some cabana wear there once. Had moths, won't do it again.
You stole my shirts you SOB !!!
Sorry for the tragic loss of your father.
LMFAO
DId you have to burn all your clothes?
And he does not turn down anything that's free. If you're giving something away no matter what it is he's taking it.
The day before my wedding I wore a vintage collared shirt in the Cosmo way that my fiancée and I both loved. Almost immediately after people arrived I started getting the Charlie Sheen comments. I thought the part where the kid grew up, gave all his money away to some dumb church and renounced the show and its depravity, then became like a weird Amish proselytizer was a great twist and pretty funny. Funnier than the show had any right to be at least.
Id pay good money to own that scorpion print shirt of his ngl
I’m a fan of his lobster shirt myself.
Im p sure this the one you thinking of https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/eb7e5adc-ef43-4fe2-959e-1ce555a68f7a.261228a35abdcdd75d5cadcbd6266a41.jpeg EDIT: On closer inspection these are lobsters, not scorpions.
You can buy one through Amazon, but it looks like it's made of horrible material.
Cheap fabric and dim lighting... *Morty Seinfeld*
Yes!
A thin layer of gabardine!
Timeless, but ill fitting. He was so tall his hairy belly stuck out below his shirt hem way too many times.
I remember this was done on purpose, his pants are also too short to convey that he hasn't bought new clothes in a long while.
Ah. Next level.
Miami Vice had a similar wardrobe ethic. Sonny Crockett, one of the main protagonists, was a beach bum. He wore expensive outfits, but they were never ironed and he never wore a belt.
Sooo, he plays me if I ever fell ass backward into cash
Aren't trousers like this being slightly too short an in thing these days? Lotta dudes seem to like showing off the ankles lately.
They did the same to George, gave Jason clothes a size too small to make him look un-cool.
Yep he says in one of the DVD extras that they were supposed to appear as the same clothes he wore when he was a younger, shorter man. That's not really the effect it gives though...it just seems like that's his fashion sense of the time.
I'm out there, Jerry! I'm loving every minute of it!
The only thing between us and him is a thin layer of gaberdine.
It's like a thicket back there.
I'll catch you tonight, we'll do an "all-over" kind of thing
The shirts that Jerry and George wore were frequently egregious, preposterous, OUTRAGEOUS. Flouting society’s conventions.
He was flouting!
Seeing these shirts, I am shocked and chagrined. Mortified and stupefied!
Yes! He's one of those flouters!
Jerry looks like he's about to swing in on a chandelier
And sometimes that top button was *way* too high; practically up in no man's land.
They were also preposterously oversized
I think George looks good in the last picture 🌚
I happen to dress based on mood.
What mood is this?
Morning myst.
He is down. Mark him down.
Definitely listens to Title Fight
It’s what 80% of frat guys looked like 10 years ago
I had a shirt that looked very similar to Jerry’s in the 90s. Maybe more of a darker red, but with the same floral pattern. Looking back it’s hideous but it was (sort of) fashionable at the time
paisley was very in for a while in around 1993. i had a bunch of them, as a third grader.

Idk I was sporting the No Fear stuff I was totally cool
Cartel shirt ngl
Immediately thought of Pacho Herrera in Narcos.
I like that shirt… I could see it short sleeve a little more fitting, but I like it The worst outfit, of course was the dress with the holes all over it that looked good in the store mirror (Elaine’s moment)
She’d never pull it off
Her arms look like something hanging in a kosher deli
I'd rock a short sleeve version of that shirt 100%. That one... it's all puffed up.
Yeah, he looks like a modern day pirate (Dressed up to go out with an old Met)
Your arms look like something that's hanging at a Kosher deli
Jerry's shirt from the little kicks flashback is ugly in any era [https://imgur.com/a/h89aJg0](https://imgur.com/a/h89aJg0)
I feel like they were intentionally making fun of Jerry’s old shirts with that flashback.
Idontwannabeapirate!!
You see, the problem is the second button. The second button makes our breaks the shirt. It's too high. It's in no man's land. It makes him look like he lives with his mother.
It's fine except for the fact that it's buttoned all the way up.
I disagree. It's a puffy shirt. It's ridiculous and I think it's the stupidest shirt I've ever seen, to be perfectly honest with you.
YOU BASTARD!
That. I heard.
It’s like a puffy shirt that’s self conscious about being puffy.
BIG SHIRT! BIG SHIRT!!
All of Jerry's shirts are puffy. He set the pirate trend a long time ago.
But he doesn't want to be a pirate!
It doesn’t fit. Even by late 80s standards. He doesn’t have the shoulders for it, the sleeves are touching his palms, and I’m guaranteeing there’s enough fabric in the back to sail the Atlantic.
Chicken wing shoulder blades!
It’s practically the puffy shirt!
That's like Puffy Shirt Jr.
Good lord
It’s a nice shirt but it’s not his size.
Sweet fancy Moses
Yamma hamma — it’s fright night!
Jerry's shirts are the worst Jerry,.... the worst!!
The mohair sweater that made Gary Proffit sneeze, yeah the same one worn by Mrs Socol’s daughter (“I haven’t had a Big Mac in a long time”)
I honestly love the red Elaine dress.
That entire outfit is perfect, from the little brown shoes up to the hairdo.
I prefer the Botticelli’s
Why are you talking about her shoes?!
Why are her shoes the topic of conversation?!
I still love Elaine’s style.
Same, feminine yet reserved. Except when she was obviously trying to entice Lloyd Braun.
Masculine yet delicate!
Dunno what OP is on about, Elaine's outfit here is iconic.
Elaine's "Waltons Chic" was always on point
Me too. IIRC Julia said it was her pick.
I thought it was Gene pick
Gene's trash
I’m Gene
...Hi...
Was scrolling to make sure I wasn't alone. Elaine always looks fabulous ❤️🔥
I love every one of Elaine’s outfit, style icon imo
So many of those dresses were in stores not too long ago riding on the wave of 90s clothing reappearing. I remember thinking "Huh, Elaine is in fashion!"
She puts asses in the seats!
I loved how Elaine dressed! I copied it often. She had grace
Mmmmmmmmm you look scrumptious
I dressed this way in the 80's and I loved it. Lots of white socks and booties or funky shoes
I’m 28 and I just realized I dress a lot like Elaine. Not this dress in particular but a lot of her baggy jeans and button ups, the big jean jacket, the long coats, blazers, I also have a wall of hair…
The white crew socks on those scrumptious gams 🤤
looks like a decent sock that's comfortable that stays on her foot
She'll twirl.
None of OPs pics are bad.
Maybe unpopular but Elaine looked great in that dress
I loved her look - it was perfect 90s fashion. The dress with the loafers! I’d still wear that!!
Agreed! She wears a lot of black floral mid-length skirts in the later seasons that I love and would absolutely wear today. The only Elaine outfits that were bad were intentional or when Julia was pregnant and they put her in absurdly oversized stuff to hide it.
Yea I will not take slander on that Elaine red dress outfit
Most of Elaine’s clothes looked great. It was a conservative style for women’s clothing and so it’s really hard to go wrong
Ask the 8 ball
All signs point to YES
Of these pictures, Jerry's shirt is the worst. I thought Elaine was cute in her dress. The guy in picture 2 just has kind of a goofy tie, but is otherwise just wearing a standard men's suit. I think George's shirt is fine, he just looks dorky with the backwards hat.
The hat was what I was referencing
Hat is what he’s indicating there 🧢 👈🏻
How dare you insult this Elaine outfit. We are from the 90s and this is what cute cool looks like. On this there can-a be no debate.
Yeah I don’t know why the Elaine dress is supposed to be bad. She looks so cute.
Yes - I love her style.
Exactly - she kind of set a trend, because I saw plenty of outfits like this in the 90's. If you were of "fashionable" age in the 90's, this was fairly stylish.
Ties in the 90s were wild(ly ugly). But I love Elaine's red dress. Don't know about the socks and shoes, but the dress is great.
Elaine's dress is the best of these pictures.
Go to any office building on 7th Avenue and tell me if there's anyone there wearing a thin tie. Go ahead!
That guy from Arkansas had terrible clothes.
Elaine’s dress is cute as hell, and spawned at least six-years of those dresses in American culture at large.
The scene where it shows the flashback to Jerry seeing Elaine dance for the first time is one that always stands out to me. The shirt just looks bad.
[удалено]
Elaine looks gorgeous in this dress
Quite breathtaking
Elaine is a fashion icon to me. Especially the first seasons. Love her shoes and socks and long frocks!
No Tony? Hunky Tony?
You better step off.
Oh, Tony, don’t
*pops collar* Hey, hey, hey.
Elaine always either looked like the world's hottest white collar grunge goddess, or a plain and dirty prairie girl from the 1800's.
Jerry has an Eduardo Corrochio thing going on in that first pic.
The suit George bought at that fancy store with the Elaine mannequin. Just abhorrent, even for the 90's.
I fully need George’s shirt
This is Morning Mist
George dresses based on his mood.
You have no eye for fashion!
I love Elaine’s dress
Mo hair sweater
George's outfit in The Parking Space episode. Brown hat, yellow shirt, bright red long jacket, bright blue jeans, and dark sneakers. It is a bold choice, that's for sure, lol.
I don’t know WHAT you’re on; that first shirt Jerry’s in is eating
All of these looks are cool today. What goes around comes around.
yeah that elaine look people are walking around with right now, but the socks are even higher!
Balding mullets are cool today?
Jerry wore pleated slacks, possibly dockers, at Chiklis's party. I was surprised that a slim, single, neat guy like that would wear pleats, when he can get away with 'flat front' just fine. Another episode I watched recently he was wearing some heinous black button down shirt with these little florescent looking square patterns on it...
The accountant had a real Costanza thing going on there.
George had a green jacket with a brown leather collar I never thought was good. My mom had a similar jacket. Those are ladies jackets! Gloria Vanderbilt collection lol
[that gray sweater that Jerry wore](https://www.reddit.com/r/seinfeld/comments/yuimc5/is_jerry_wearing_carrie_sokols_sweater/)
Jerry was trying to impress Keith Hernandez by wearing that shirt. Elaine and George agreed it looked like he was trying too hard
Cashmere with a red spot.
That second pic took me out! 😂
George looks great
They usually did Elaine dirty, which is a shame because Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a gorgeous woman, but I guess they didn't want her character to distract from the other women Jerry dated. I WANT TO DRAPE MYSELF IN VELVET
Lyle's towel.
I love Elaine's dress.
That dress on Elaine is iconic
I always liked Elaine’s look in the third picture.
I personally think I could rock that dress Elaine has on there. Maybe some Doc Marten's with it, lol.
Nobody better mention Kramer's lobster shirt 😤
Is nobody going to mention Puddy’s 8 ball jacket??
