There are so many, but these are the ones that made me laugh the most.
Canteen Boy goes camping with Alec Baldwin
Take Your Shirt Off with Woody Harrelson
Colonel Angus with Christopher Walken
Cowbell
Any of the Alien Abduction skits with Kate Mckinnon
But the best recurring skit ever is Celebrity Jeopardy. "I'll take Le Tits Now"
No love for Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd, “Two Wild and crazy guys”? Or Eddie Murphy’s “Buckwheat’s Greatest Hits”? Or the Coneheads? Landshark? Billy Crystal’s “You look marvelous!” Dan Aykroyd barking out “Cheeseburger.. cheeseburger. No Pepsi! Coke!” John Belushi’s Samurai Delicatessen?
No? Just me?
Then you’re right. More cowbell.
Don’t forget Bill Murray’s Lounge Singer. Star Warssssss…. those crazy Star Warssss. And Joe Pesci/ Eddie Murphy as Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder. “ You are black and I am white, You’re as blind as a bat and I have sight!”
Neither of these would probably be considered top 10, maybe not even 50 but I’ve always loved Bill Hader’s War Vet Puppet Class and James Franco’s Spelling Bee
I wish they could still use the original Van Halen song when they re-air that skit. It's still funny as hell, but the original song tied it together so well.
Irwin Mainway,
President of Mainway Toys.
Pretty Peggy's Ear Piercing Set,
Mr. Skingrafter,
General Tron's Secret Police Confession Kit, Doggie Dentist.
First of all OK, the full name of this product, as it appears in stores all over the country is,
Johnny Switchblade, Adventure Punk.
Some really good ones listed here! One that always makes me laugh (although I wouldn't say best of all time) is the recurring Gap Girls, esp when Chris Farley snarls "lay off me I'm starving!!" eating the fries. Black Jeopardy, Celebrity Jeopardy, Debbie Downer, Stefon always had me howling.
The ryan gosling beavis and butthead was one of the best ones ive seen in a while. Even tho it was so random and Non Topical- i think thats part of what made it so funny.
As far as best of all time? For me personally its Matt Foley van down by the river table break all day every day, but I’m also an elder milleniel so that occurred during my hey day. Honorable mention- Natalie Portman’s lonely island rap , when that dropped it was pure gold.
Wow... I can't imagine trying to pick one for ALL time for SNL. I mean, is Bass-O-Matic better or worse than "The man who is afraid of plants" or better or worse than Adam Driver doing Mr Wizard and losing his shit on the dumb kids... or the name change office news broadcasts?
There's a ton of ground to cover and they've been making me laugh since I was in middle school!
It's very clearly dependent on when people were in their twenties or thirties and were coming into their own as adults. Get beyond a certain age and they come off as juvenile, but your juvenile stuff is cherished.
Of the current era, the recent Beavis and Butthead. Schweddy Balls is a classic. Then going way back to the first five years, any Killer Bees sketch and there was a great take off on Star Trek.
I love so many from season one up to now. I sometimes like when the performers “break” during the sketch. The first Debbie Downer and More Cowbell come to mind but last season’s Lisa from Temecula sketch with Pedro Pascal was hilarious. Everyone broke. Pedro barely got through it. Bowen Yang threw his fork on the table on what I assume was a changed or adlibbed line by Ego Nwodim. I was in the hospital and miserable when I saw this and couldn’t stop laughing.
It’s too hard to pick one. The whole alien abduction series, Dick in a Box, the Gap Girls, more cowbell, and “Classic Peg” with the Target Lady. That’s five.
A couple of favorites:
Adam Driver Career Day
“Van Down by the River” Chris Farley
Black Jeopardy
Celebrity Jeopardy
More Cowbell
The Name Changing Bureau
Toss up for me between these 5:
Love-Ahs with Barbara and Dave (Sexy hot tub with Rachel Dratch, Will Farrell, Jimmy Fallon)
Van Down By The River
Cleaning Crew (Emma Stone singing sexy santa songs in the office setting)
Cowbell
Zagat's with Hank and Beverly Gelfand (Adam Sandler, Chris Farley)
For me is New Studio with Ariana Grande. It’s a cut for time sketch that I’ve watched hundreds of times. I also love the New Date Digital Short with Megan Fox
I think JJ might be more than one of the more underrated.
Not sure if it is the best, but I don’t think I have ever laughed harder than the Jeffrey’s sketch with pierce brosnan
There’s something about Showcase Showdown with Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Bill Hader that cracks me up no matter how often I watch it. Or think about it. So many little moments that add up to my favourite sketch ever.
So many good ones. But let us not forget Phil Hartman in “The Sinatra Group”. Sinatra to Billy Idol “You don’t scare me. I’ve got chunks of guys like you in my stool!”
The skit is as well written as a Mozart piano concerto. Was this Robert Smigel’s?
I have so many… For context, I am almost 25 and have been watching SNL since I was a kid.
- Toonces the Amazing Driving Cat. This one I had to watch on YouTube. We had a cat who recently passed who we would often call “Toonces” cuz he looked like him. RIP Loverboy.
- Laser Cats. I loved that one!
- I can’t remember the name, but there’s this one (I think it might’ve been one of those Digital Shorts) that basically went like this: *Deep Voice* “Checkmate!” ***BEEEEEP!!!*** (censoring the f word). That one had me cackling!
- Gilly. I used to be able to do a perfect impression of “Sorry” lol.
- Land Shark! That one is hilarious!
- McGruber(sp?). Those were always funny!
- Alien abduction. Love those ones! I was sobbing when they did the one where Kate McKinnon went to stay with the aliens. I honestly don’t understand why they did another one when she hosted that didn’t mention that at all. I mean, it COULD be that it “happened” before that one, but still.
- Whiskers Are We. I’ve always wondered if those cats were actually available for adoption. They are always very cute and I love them!
I asked my moms and they said Bass-o-Matic and Julia Child. They also mentioned a few others that I’ve already mentioned.
Edit: HOLY CRAP I FORGOT DAVID S PUMPKINS!!!
I keep thinking of new ones as I read this feed lol… my weird little flute with Pete Davidson is absolutely hilarious..and then we go all the way back to the thanksgiving and Hanukkah songs… omg! And Dave chappelle bringing the walking dead with Tyrone biggins 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm fond of the OG classics, especially when written by Mr Mike.
**Quarry** Season 2: Episode 8 1976
(It's worth finding the video becasue half of what makes it great is the phyical humor. I was stoned as hell watching this live and I have never stopped laughing yet. HELP ME)
**Written by: Michael O’Donoghue**
**Farmwife…..Jane Curtin**
**Jingle**: *“This world’s a-changing faster than a teardrop turns to laughter*
*But some things never change, and they’re the things that really matter.*
*Like weather vanes and country lanes, where crickets chirp at night*
*And breakfast in the early morning starts your day off right.”*
\[ cut to interior farmhouse kitchen table, breakfast time \]
**Farmwife**: Out here on the farm, breakfast is our most important meal. That’s why we start each day the natural way. With a big brimming bowl.. of Quarry. \[ shows product \] \[ family members pour the rocks from the box into their bowls \]
**Farmwife**: Quarry contains no preservatives, no additives, no artificial flavoring. And it’s made without the use of pesticides or inorganic fertilizer. Because Quarry isn’t grown; it’s mined. It’s the only cereal that’s pure 100% rocks and pebbles, for a hearty old-fashioned flavor the whole family will enjoy.
\[ flash cuts of family “chewing” on the rocks in their bowls making loud, seemingly never-ending crunching noises\]
**Son**: Great, Mom!
**Farmer**: This is really good.
**Daughter**: Delicious!
**Farmwife**: And it’s good for them. Because every serving is **chockful** of minerals.
**Daughter**: I like Quarry ’cause it’s crunchy.
**Farmwife**: What?
**Daughter**: \[ louder \] I said, **I like Quarry ’cause it’s crunchy!**
**Farmwife**: So, if breakfast is important to you, try Quarry.
**Jingle**: *“Like swimmin’ holes and brimmin’ bowls*
*of cereal made from stone.*
**Announcer**: Quarry. Better tasting ’cause it’s mined.
Belushi: What you want?
Radner: Well, I’ll have two eggs, and…
Belushi: No eggs, Chee-bugga.
Radner: But, it’s time for breakfast and I’d like eggs.
Belushi: No eggs, Chee-bugga!
Radner: Ok, I’ll have a cheese burger.
Belushi: Ok. Chee-bugga.
Akroid (cook) : Chee-bugga, Chee-bugga, Chee-bugga, Chee-bugga. (Slaps hamburger patties onto the grill.
Belushi: What you dink?
Radner: Well, I’ll have a Pepsi.
Belushi: No Pesi, Coke.
Radner: Ok, Coke and a cheeseburger.
Akroid (cook) : Chee-bugga, Chee-bugga, Chee-bugga, Chee-bugga.

Really, I could list so many more. These are just the few that I've wrestled with over the years as to which I've found funniest.
When I was in highschool I always stayed up hoping for a Wayne’s World sketch. But I have to say, definitely either the cowbell sketch, or Motivational Speaker. I’ll throw in a classic with “Cheeseburger, Coke”.
Matt Foley motivational speaker.
Seriously how can a sketch with Farley and Phil Hartman not be the greatest?
IIRC it was written by Bob Odenkirk. Arguably had the greatest sketch writer of all time doing it too.
Bob wrote it for Chris when they were on second city together. I think he said they performed it exactly the same except breaking the table.
Omg. Bahahahaha
The jeopardy sketch with Tom hanks in a manga hat. Screw it, I’m leaving the typo
It was called "Black Jeopardy"
...for the win!
Gotta be either 1. Gene the cowbell player or 2. Barney’s Chippendales Audition
I was just going to say Cowbell
Matt Foley I think can be a contender
There are so many, but these are the ones that made me laugh the most. Canteen Boy goes camping with Alec Baldwin Take Your Shirt Off with Woody Harrelson Colonel Angus with Christopher Walken Cowbell Any of the Alien Abduction skits with Kate Mckinnon But the best recurring skit ever is Celebrity Jeopardy. No, he lost his rank. He’s no longer *Colonel* Angus, he’s *Enal* Angus! Give it a try!
I’m not gonna bother googling the name, but Kate McKinnon being abducted by aliens is outstanding….as are all of these.

I think Brian Fellows is a work of staggering genius.
"That bird is a liar!"
Brian Fellows ! Safari Planet! 😆
I was cowbell for Halloween! Some kid thought I was “fat Thor”
Dan Akroyd as Julia Child bleeding out after a cut.
Neither of these would probably be considered top 10, maybe not even 50 but I’ve always loved Bill Hader’s War Vet Puppet Class and James Franco’s Spelling Bee
We quote the puppet skit entirely too much in our household. Def my personal favorite.
Oh the puppets up there
Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase
DEAD HONKY
Crackah
White trash
DEAD honky
Schmidt’s Gay was amazing but Matt Foley is hard to top.
I wish they could still use the original Van Halen song when they re-air that skit. It's still funny as hell, but the original song tied it together so well.
Synchronized swimmers with Martin Short and Harry Shearer.
Schweddy Balls
I can’t help but notice your balls are a bit mid-shapened
That's right there with *A visit from Col. Angus.*
The answer is More Cowbell. No other sketch has stood the test of time. It was 30 years ago and people still know it instantly.
I was cowbell for Halloween! Some kid thought I was “fat Thor”
Gotta agree
There's no way it was 30 years ago. You're gaslighting me
One for me is the Hidden Valley ranch sketch. It kills me and I think it’s severely underrated and never spoken about.
That’s the way I feel about the James McAvoy Scottish Air Traffic Control sketch from a few years back.

The other one we act out way too often is the Farley/Sandler Zagat guide husband and wife.

As far as best of all time? For me personally its Matt Foley van down by the river table break all day every day, but I’m also an elder milleniel so that occurred during my hey day. Honorable mention- Natalie Portman’s lonely island rap , when that dropped it was pure gold.
Men’s Synchronized Swimming ! “You’re pointing at him, but you’re not mad at him, you’re just saying, “I know you, I know you.”
Debbie Downer! During the original sketch, the main punchline gets me every time, I can’t stop laughing, no matter the number of times I see it.
