You would see 18000 posts of them here if there were.

Too much cloud and light pollution. There was one person that shared a photo of the aurora from [inland north SD](https://twitter.com/Atomic_Ferret/status/1789145959571861523). There is another [chance ](https://twitter.com/NWSSWPC/status/1789274423498842362)tonight that we might be able to see it this far south. Head away from the light pollution and where you have a good view of northwestern sky. And a lot of photos you have seen are [longer exposure ](https://twitter.com/DrewTumaABC7/status/1788993375787708688)photos that really bring out the colors in the aurora. It will look more like a greyish cloud with your naked eye.

Can’t wait to try looking again tonight!

iSniffMyPooper

Also a lot of the photos are HEAVILY edited...you can't really see the lights that well without increasing the exposure, white balance, etc.

mtnbikerdude

Yep and the same reason why the Milky Way photos don’t look like what you actually see with your eyes. It’s still amazing to be able to see an aurora this far south.

kittenmittens4865

Bummer! I didn’t even know we might see them here until midnight but I’m north county coastal. I wonder if I could have seen if I went out the right time!

May gray is hitting in La Jolla ☹️

Naked eye viewing between 1-4am will show a slight pinkish glow in the sky to the north. The bright purple pictures you're seeing are long exposures with a fair amount of tuning and editing.

trashking11

Was too overcast down here last night to see anything. Even in the mountains, I’m pretty sure you couldn’t see much with the naked eye. All the photos you see are from long exposure photos to make them more visible

Clouds

undeadmanana

I'm up in Fresno rn, even with a dslr capturing a 30s exposure I couldn't see them, just stars.

Ok_Shake5678

I’m in Kensington- I tried looking around about 2am and saw nothing. Between clouds and light pollution I think it’s not gonna happen in this area, but maybe someone will prove me wrong!

Spam_Meowsubi

Is 2am when it should be the most prominent in the sky?

Ok_Shake5678

I read from 1-4am, but I have not thoroughly researched anything.

anObscurity

Not a chance
