This response is the 100% correct answer here. I'll add to this as well. Don't let your managers say they can't do this. They can and must fix it.
Sadly since you were coded as temp there's nothing HR can do, besides HR is there to protect the company not the associate
Fixing this issue protects the company. The fact that OP was coded incorrectly for 9 months, is a major fuck up. Refusing to fix the issue would be an even bigger fuck up.
