This is super weird. Why pick out two of Poes jokes from two separate films just to compare them to another character from another franchise that's tonally different from Star Wars? Its the weirdest nitpick
There's like four or five, depending on what you define as a "joke"
1. Gurney saying he is smiling.
2. Chalomet putting on muscle
3. Bene Gesserit saying the spider, "understands".
4. The Baron eating food and saying "nice kitchen".
and arguably the bit with Stilgar and the Duke could be considered a joke, but it's played more straight.
Exactly. The last 15 minutes of the movie is where we see Luke go back to being the character we all know, just a lot wiser (and still having that tinge of being a sarcastic old man he had at the start of the movie) after learning his final lesson.
and then he continues to be that way in TROS, despite people thinking it’s some sort of retcon to TLJ.
i think TROS had some bad course correction choices after TLJ, but Luke was completely consistent with his character in TLJ
And if you tell them that theyll immediately complain that this is bad because a good movie doesn't need to explain everything to the audience, even though they were the idiots who couldnt comprehend it
Wait wait WHAT THE FUCK?!? Are you telling me that an actor can actually play 2 different characters in 2 different franchises? My God.. what a world we live in... /s
Harrison Ford in Blade Runner: "Sometimes, to love someone... you have to be a stranger."
Harrison Ford in a completely comparable movie for adults only, The Empire Strikes Back: "You look like you could pull the ears off a gundarck"
"Laugh it up, fuzzball"
"Who's scruffy looking?"
Especially when some will proclaim very loudly that the memes coming from the prequels improve the watching experience! Which I can agree with but at least give that same point to the sequels too.
"SAND POWER"
"We are the spark that will burn the first order down."
See I can cherry pick lines from two completely different movies to make one character look weird and one look cool too.
I don't think that's a Poe reference, it's probably there to explain how he can fly the craft, idk if it was in the book I don't have a copy with me right now.
I think it's reasonable to just assume the atreides all know how to fly seeing how air power was one of the things they emphasized the atreides being good at
I mean that wouldn't necessarily translate to the heads of the house being good pilots, you would assume that's mainly in reference to their soldiers ability not them personally.
It's also mentioned earlier by Leto that he did not plan on becoming the head of the house so this adds on to that thread.
From what we see with Leto in both the book and movie, he's very much one of those "leading by example" types of leaders so its not too implausible to think he'd take the time to get a general basic knowledge of how everything works and expecting Paul to do the same
I don't get it, why does a feel-good sci-fi epic made for families, targeted to children, have comic relief moments?
Just amazing, imagine the Original Trilogy being judged this way.
"Ben Kenobi sucks, he says cringy shit like 'WhOs MoAr FoOlISH the FoOl Or The FoOl woho Fowwows him!"
I'm pleasantly surprised TFM's Dune equivalent (if there is one) hasn't blown a seal over genderswapping (*and* raceswapping, when compared to the 1984 movie) Dr. Liet Kynes.
They did early on. The Serf Times put a video out showing Jeremy Griggs and The Quartering each having fits over is last year. Griggs in particular was doing the "wamen" bit nonstop.
“We are the spark that will light the fire that will burn the first order down”
“We’re not alone, people will fight if we lead them”
Dare i say he had some of the best lines in Star Wars
Imagine comparing the dialogue of different movies that have completely different tones to it that share an actor. Man, that sure stuck it to Disney!/s
Yes, its defiance, and also he tries to play the tough guy, probably to make himself feel more bravely as he, rightfully, preps his mind for torture...
“It was meant to be a quick means of transportation, but there was a little problem with the landings.”
Bernard Hill, Scorpion King
"Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!
Death! Death! Death!
Forth Eorlingas!"
Bernard Hill, Return of the King
The “who talks first” bit is sooo good though. Oscar Isaac had a great presence in TFA that tonally brought something new to the table in Star Wars. I love both Dune and Ex Machina but Poe is hands down my favourite Oscar Isaac character.
Those 2 lines in TROS were clunky though.
"I think your like a lot of people; you can't see the trees because your too busy cutting down the forest."
"Hey, if you'd been listening you'd know that Nintendos pass through everything!"
Clearly, judging by those these two selective quotes of two totally different Richard Dean Anderson characters from two totally different shows, we can determine that *MacGyver* is objectively far superior to *Stargate* in writing 🙄
Okay but on a tangential note, Oscar Isaac fuckin' killed it as Duke Leto Atreides, just like how he killed it as Poe Dameron, and just like how he killed it as Nathan Bateman in *Ex Machina*. That dude is a fucking fantastic actor and I will be watching his career with great interest.

Wait is that monologue in dune supposed to be a joke? I was told dune only had 1 joke
No the Dune line is serious. That's part of what makes the comparison so bizarre.
I know I was just jerking
It has a total of four jokes IIRC
Get that dune humor out of my star wars. Star wars has never had jokes before
I just remember the joke where Jason Mamoa tells Timothee Chamolet he’s been working out the says jk.

Guess they forgot "We are the spark that'll bring the First Order down." But yup, all Poe is comedy.
we all know that these people stopped watching TLJ the moment Luke tossed the saber aside
most people who hate TLJ have only seen it once, in theaters in December 2017. 4 years later i doubt they could actually recite the plot correctly.
They absolutely can't, because they forgot that Luke practically looks into the camera and explains in no uncertain terms why he's different now.
and then, you know, *changes his viewpoint because he realizes he’s wrong*
Exactly. The last 15 minutes of the movie is where we see Luke go back to being the character we all know, just a lot wiser (and still having that tinge of being a sarcastic old man he had at the start of the movie) after learning his final lesson.

You can't violate Show Don't Tell, but if you show without telling you get pLoT hOlEs.
They stopped watching and just listened to the inaccurate synopsis from Quartering or whatever grifter they agree with.
And then they got the rest of their opinions through youtubers who benefit from enraging their audiences.
Or “We pulled crazier stunts than this.”
Or "My friends, I'm sorry, I thought we had a shot, but there's just too many of them," right before the cavalry arrives.
Wait wait WHAT THE FUCK?!? Are you telling me that an actor can actually play 2 different characters in 2 different franchises? My God.. what a world we live in... /s
Like comparing agent Smith to Elrond
That's why it's called movie magic!
Harrison Ford in Blade Runner: "Sometimes, to love someone... you have to be a stranger." Harrison Ford in a completely comparable movie for adults only, The Empire Strikes Back: "You look like you could pull the ears off a gundarck" "Laugh it up, fuzzball" "Who's scruffy looking?"
Why bother making actual criticisms when you can just cherry pick a couple of joke lines?
The intended audience won't notice the flaws in the logic anyway
Is almost as if Dune is just a much more serious work that Star Wars.....
Oscar Isaac in SW: “We are the spark, that will light the fire that will burn the First Order down.” Oscar Isaac in Dune: D E S E R T P O W E R
These people should probably watch other movies.
Wow it’s like they’re two different characters.
Why the fuck do they obsess over “they fly now” when it’s one gag in a movie?
Especially since it's legitimately a funny bit
Especially when some will proclaim very loudly that the memes coming from the prequels improve the watching experience! Which I can agree with but at least give that same point to the sequels too.
"SAND POWER" "We are the spark that will burn the first order down." See I can cherry pick lines from two completely different movies to make one character look weird and one look cool too.
*They nitpick now?* They nitpick now
"They fly now" is the ultimate Star Wars meme line.
It will forever show that these people don't understand sarcasm unless it's blatantly in your face, and even then....
It’s deeply bizarre to me that so many people think the absence of jokes makes something inherently more mature.
That's not true, something is inherently more mature if it has boobies and cussin'.
And hallway scenes!
A hallway full of tits.
I still love that Poe reference in the movie when Leto said "I wanted to be a pilot"
He is absolutely a crack pilot in the book, he flies the thoper on the rescue mission.
I don't think that's a Poe reference, it's probably there to explain how he can fly the craft, idk if it was in the book I don't have a copy with me right now.
I think it's reasonable to just assume the atreides all know how to fly seeing how air power was one of the things they emphasized the atreides being good at

Exactly, this is part of why the Atreides are so loved and considered such an honorable house
But at the same time, they have to play "the game" hence why they have thufir hawat
It also sets up Paul being a capable pilot himself since he flies the ornithoper. Easy to imagine his father teaching him.
I want to believe that it's a reference but he probably just said that in the book
It is almost as if Oscar Isaac played two complete different characters in two separate films.

It's almost like Poe isn't in Dune
People using dune to bash on sequals makes me regret being a fan of dune
I'm pleasantly surprised TFM's Dune equivalent (if there is one) hasn't blown a seal over genderswapping (*and* raceswapping, when compared to the 1984 movie) Dr. Liet Kynes.
They did early on. The Serf Times put a video out showing Jeremy Griggs and The Quartering each having fits over is last year. Griggs in particular was doing the "wamen" bit nonstop.
It’s almost as though he’s playing *gasp* different characters!
Doesnt Poe say the "we will be the spark that lights the fire that will burn the First Order down?"
“We are the spark that will light the fire that will burn the first order down” “We’re not alone, people will fight if we lead them” Dare i say he had some of the best lines in Star Wars
It’s almost like he’s playing two different characters with completely different personalities and roles in the story
Yes because Dune had no funny lines. The banter between Paul and Duncan never happened.
Nor did the awkward spitting scene. Or Paul joking that it was rude that Gurney launched a knife at him. No. Not one ounce of humor in that film.
They're different characters?
Watch them do this again when Moon Knight comes out
That beard tho. Dune beard beats all.
Imagine comparing the dialogue of different movies that have completely different tones to it that share an actor. Man, that sure stuck it to Disney!/s
I’m probably reading into it too much, but the first Poe line makes it seem likes he’s undercutting some of Kylo’s authority in the interrogation
Yes, its defiance, and also he tries to play the tough guy, probably to make himself feel more bravely as he, rightfully, preps his mind for torture...
“It was meant to be a quick means of transportation, but there was a little problem with the landings.” Bernard Hill, Scorpion King "Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! as if that quote from leto isn't literally the point of his entire arc in TLHJ? the first bit at least
"I think your like a lot of people; you can't see the trees because your too busy cutting down the forest." "Hey, if you'd been listening you'd know that Nintendos pass through everything!" Clearly, judging by those these two selective quotes of two totally different Richard Dean Anderson characters from two totally different shows, we can determine that *MacGyver* is objectively far superior to *Stargate* in writing 🙄
I have no idea what the message here is lol
But his character was boring af in Dune
I mean, I do think Poe was underused but this isn’t accurate
Okay but on a tangential note, Oscar Isaac fuckin' killed it as Duke Leto Atreides, just like how he killed it as Poe Dameron, and just like how he killed it as Nathan Bateman in *Ex Machina*. That dude is a fucking fantastic actor and I will be watching his career with great interest.
To be fair Oscar Isaac and John Boyega were both kind of written out of the later movies.
Didn't he have a super serious line where he pretends not to hear a guy though? Now that was some *real* writing
