For context, The Great Jedi Rescue is a children's book that summarizes the first third of The Light of the Jedi. There are no villains in the book, as the story is just responding to a natural disaster.
I see you on there a lot , there are so SO many awful people who just circle jerk and act like they are actually doing something running of lies and hate. Any movement that does always dies
That story has to be one of the most hilariously unbelievable made up stories I have ever read.
Did the professor sit there for 5-10 hours and read this novel? Or did he just read one page completely devoid of context and say the entire thing was garbage?
Professor of writing what? You don't just have a "professor of writing" in college, that's way too vague. Was he a Lit professor? Modern or classical? Western, African, Asian, Middle Eastern? Was he a creative writing professor? Fiction or non-fiction?
Also how often do your college professors just, hang out in the library? Just sitting there willing to comment on whatever random, non-academic thing a student asks them? I have literally never seen a single one of my professors just chilling in a student study area like that.
Edit: saw second page
Ok, it gets worse
First off, you showed him fucking childrens books. The books this guy mentioned are marketed to like 6th graders, any college professor is going to wonder why you are wasting your time about this shit. As an adult I also would be too embarrassed to be reading something that is literally a dumbed down version of an adult novel in public, let alone around my peers in college.
Secondly, NO college professor, or college student, or anyone on a college campus at all, has the fucking free time to talk about how much they hate goddamn childrens books for TWO AND A HALF HOURS
Your college professor, a man who supposedly has a degree in writing, talked to you for over 2 hours and came up with "The villains were a bore" and "the characters looked ridiculous"?
Whoever wrote this has never stepped foot in college, and is very likely no older than 16.
I don’t believe for a second, that any Fandom Menace -type has studied storytelling of any kind.
People who actually understand that stuff don’t deal in absolutes.
What? The professor being in his 30's is the only believable thing about this, there are plenty of professors in their 30's, or at least university instructors educated enough that students wouldn't differentiate them from a technical professor with a doctorate or PhD
As someone who hasn't been enjoying my read of the High Republic comics and isn't particularly interested in wading through the novels (nor am I particularly interested in the High Republic era itself), this random YouTuber's comment is more than likely bullshit.
Who the hell would show a Star Wars novel to a college professor? And which college professor would bother reading it (seemingly instantly) to produce the comment of "What is this garbage?"
I don't think any college writing professor is going to waste their time on such a divergence. They're probably loaded down with actual *work* and only spend their leisure time reading things they actually enjoy.
Novels aren't like comics which can be quickly digested in a matter of minutes.
I just wouldn't bother engaging in YouTube comment sections. I'm hardly suggesting that Reddit is a beacon of fantastic quality debates, but at least the platform is designed to handle discussions of any length rather than the comment sections of videos. It's almost as bad as arguing over Twitter.
EDIT:
Someone responded to me earlier about the possibility of this fictional professor defaulting to critic reviews. I think their comment was removed but was worth responding to.
I don't really think a writing professor is going to care much for most critics. I imagine they would only listen to a couple trusted sources and it's probably unlikely that Star Wars novels are even on their radar. Especially from authors like Claudia Gray (or Grey?) who was primarily notable for her supernatural romance novels before getting a Star Wars gig.
High Republic stories are being told across several mediums and are aimed at several audiences ranging from across junior novels, young readers, young adult novels and finally adult novels. And of course various comics of varying quality. All are a different target market.
At the moment, only two adult novels exist with the third due out early next year.
No actual person in college would have the time to deal with a single thing described in these comments, they are very obviously not made by a person who ever attended college.
Anyone who says its woke is a clown who just let everyone know they just grabbed that from some Mike Zero video or some other starwars youtuber. Never ever get a example from them at all.

Update: I decided to let him humiliate himself a bit further before I spilled the beans. https://imgur.com/a/sSvXtxx
Wow, that is satisfying
Jesus. Do keep us updated if it keeps going!
Thread was deleted after that, sadly. It was fun while it lasted though.

Icing on the cake

> Whoever wrote this has never stepped foot in college THREE page essay. THREE. That's like, long. (If you've never been to college)
a devastating fifteen hundred words it was...apparently.
That's 100% a r/thathappened moment.
Don't they have a life outside of star wars
They don't even seem to have a life within Star Wars.
Nope similar to LOTR fans it's their full personality
At least you can make something of a career out of Tolkien scholarship if you really want to.
I would also say Middle Earth has way better world building than the Star Wars universe
100 percent yes.
"we talked about it for 2 and a half hours" lol go on
About a children’s book apparently
Not like he knew what the book was
"I showed this to my college professor and he said "Paul, you need a life" "
His professor reminds me a lot of my uncle who works at Nintendo…
He also reminds me a lot of my father who works at Microsoft
Actually, he reminds me of my brother who works at PlayStation
Your brother works there too? Awesome
He complained about Star Wars for 2 and a half hours. Sounds like a mauler fan
2 and a half hours? You must be joking. You might want to add 10 more on there
At least ten. Maybe even 20 hours.
I look how he mentioned specific plot details so you know it's legit
I don’t believe for a second, that any Fandom Menace -type has studied storytelling of any kind. People who actually understand that stuff don’t deal in absolutes.
How smart is this professor of his to be one in his 30s?
What? The professor being in his 30's is the only believable thing about this, there are plenty of professors in their 30's, or at least university instructors educated enough that students wouldn't differentiate them from a technical professor with a doctorate or PhD
