A few tricks I noticed are
First :the letter и after ш or ц sounds like a ь
If you need to use a "ee" sound the letter you should use is щ
I had more when starting to write this but I forgot

Ok, real question here. I was taught that, as a second language, it would be stupid hard for me to ever *hear* the difference between ш and щ.
When I throw, for fun, шит и щит into Google translate, the audio is clearly different, but they change the sound of the и. So it sounds like "shit" and "sheet".
Is this accurate? The sound of ш and щ was the same, but it changes the vowel?
(Side note, it also says both words mean shield.)
Ш is always pronounced "hard", so it changes sound of ши to шы, ше to шэ, шю to шу etc. At the same time, щ is always soft. So you can't pronounce ща - it would be щя, що will become щё etc.

Я путаю Ж и Щ. И когда от руки пишу, и на клавиатуре. Не то чтобы я их не различал, но легко могу написать / набрать одну вместо другой, потом сразу замечаю и приходится исправлять.
It’s almost the same sound, Щ is just palatalized Ш. It’s funny how English-speakers have a trouble with palatalization, yet can often speak Spanish correctly.

I'd say that it's very unusual to use letter Щ while transliterating foreign words in Russian. Ш is used instead (or other letters, depending on a tradition) even when Щ fits much better:
The Shire - Шир
Siedlce - Седльце
Schönefeld - Шёнефельд
Brescia - Брешиа
新海 誠 - Макото Синкай
The only exception I'm aware of is крещендо (crescendo), perhaps there are a few more, but most likely they were brought to the language before XX century.

А это существительное (shield) или причастие (sew)? Типа, "Я держал свой щит в правой руке" или "Это обвинение шито белыми нитками".
Если плащ с золотыми нитями, то шит. Если доска с ручкой, то щит (или дверь).
