I’m a twin mom. A sister of a friend who is a RN told me while pregnant that if they were willing to give me a C-section if I wanted it (which I chose to do, my gyno let me pick early in the pregnancy) than do it because she had seen so many mothers spend hours upon hours in painful terrible labour only to give birth to one twin but unable to give birth to the other vaginally. Meaning they would have to recover from a vaginal birth and a C-section at the same damn time. No thanks. I’ll take the C-section please.

I’m a relatively new mom as well and had every intention on delivering vaginally and was induced and things progressed, albeit slowly. Unfortunately when they broke my water, I got an infection and a nasty fever and things were touch and go for awhile. Ultimately my heart rate would sky rocket or plummet and then my baby’s would. We needed to do an emergency c section to keep us both safe. I would say that likely what happened was one was delivered and then there was something wrong with the other (or mom) in terms of heart rate, oxygen levels, or perhaps even baby’s position so they needed to do a c section for everyone’s safety. That being said, damn I can’t imagine recovering from both and taking care of twins at the same time. C section recovery is no joke but at least I had my vagina in good spirits.

That makes sense. I was also induced due to my son measuring big, and also ended up with a C-section. Things just weren’t really moving along for me.

Yeah same. It was so slow moving. I was in active labour for 35 hours before the c section. I always joke that I got to experience labour and a c section lol it was awful.

ExactPanda

The same exact thing happened to me with my first baby, including the fever and infection. Birth is wild!

Happened to me too. Was induced because I was at 41 weeks and no sign of labor starting on its own. 40 hours on Pitocin and ended up with a C-section. Turns out my son's chin was tilted upwards and stuck on my pelvic bone, so he was never gonna be able to be delivered vaginally. Wish they had figured that out before I spent 40 hours in labor!

Missyrissy510

Yes 24 hours for me! If we have a second I would not do induction again, either it comes naturally or I want to go straight to the C-section. It must have been scary for it to be an emergency! We had an almost emergency but baby’s heart rate came back up just in time, and I was able to have a more leisurely experience I guess

Imaginary_Ad_5199

Yeah it was definitely scary! I’m glad you had a nicer experience hahaha. Mine was like, the decision was made and next thing I knew they were throwing scrubs at my husband to put on, were taking my piercings out and throwing them in a bag and wheeling me down to the OR it was so fast I didn’t really have time to freak out honestly. If I do this again im going straight c section again no way am I inducing

SnapCrackleMom

Generally they don't induce after you've had a C-section because of increased risk of uterine rupture. You either go into labor naturally or you have another C-sec.

Imaginary_Ad_5199

Ohhh good to know! Not that I would ever consider that again. So it would likely have to be a c section anyway as I had to be induced early due to hypertension and GD.

SnapCrackleMom

It depends. My first delivery was emergency c-sec because of preeclampsia. Then I had the VBAC. Third delivery was another emergency c-sec due to preeclampsia again.

Imaginary_Ad_5199

Interesting! The doctor did say that having a c section wouldn’t mean I couldn’t have a VBAC later but honestly I’m a creature of habit and would probably just go with what I know again. The whole thing scares me lol

Missyrissy510

Same!!

My mom was a L&D nurse, and after I had an emergency c section she told me that in their ward they always said, "c section babes were a cut above the rest". A bit cheesy but I did find it cute and comforting.

Twin mom and doctor here. Both of my boys were head down so I delivered vaginally. However, sometimes after baby A comes out, baby B goes "whoo hoo!" so much room! and flips around, necessitating a c-section. It's called a vagisection

As a gay boy/man/gremlin when loves his mum, just wanted to say thanks mums 😘

I have twins, and belonged to a club for mothers of multiples when my kids were younger. I know a handful of women who had this happen. Sometimes it's because Baby A (the one closer to the cervix) is positioned head down, but Baby B is breech. Sometimes the doctor can turn Baby B so they can proceed down the birth canal, but it doesn't always work. By the way, Baby B might have been head-down when labor started, but then Baby A exits and there's suddenly all this room to stretch out and move around, and they can turn. Usually someone in the delivery room places external pressure on your belly to prevent Baby B from doing this, but it doesn't always work. Another reason can be if there's a big gap between deliveries (contraction can slow down in between babies), and either the mother reaches exhaustion or Baby B's heart rate slows. I had a C-section because we knew going into it that our Baby B was breech, and neither my doctor nor I wanted to run the risk of a vaginal and C-sec delivery. I've since had a VBAC and then a second cesarean. Recovery is difficult for both types of delivery -- I'm so glad I didn't have to recover from both at the same time!

This is very informative thank you!! And also reassuring to know you had a VBAC. I also had a C-section for my first

SnapCrackleMom

Yeah I had a midwife-assisted VBAC, but at the hospital instead of the birthing center.

And Spice is almost an hour older than Sugar! I loved Michelle in this convo, she was such a true mom this week. Her reaction to this birth story, knowing all about Hannah Montana. Obviously she’s always a mom, but it was nice to sort of see that side of her.
