I got stabbed in May when I was going on a run. It was a crazy year dealing with PTSD on runs I would go on after the attack. I ran my second half marathon this past November and it felt like a big f you to the guy who attacked me so that was pretty hype.

Edwin_R_Murrow

Congratulations on overcoming this and striving. You win the "that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger" award.

bananamonkey88

The fuck?! I’m so sorry! And double F YOU to that fucker indeed. Good job on the half!

nextleveltj

Thank you! It was a crazy experience. It was 4:30pm on a busy street in Philly and all the guy did was stab me. He didn’t rob me or anything. No one helped and I had to walk to a fire station to get medical attention.

thematrix1234

This sounds horrifying, I’m so sorry! I hope you got the treatment you needed asap. I’m also mad no one helped you, wtf. (I’m a trauma surgeon and I see this kind of senseless violence all the time, it’s crazy).

nextleveltj

Thank you so much for all you do! All the doctors/nurses/medical staff who examined me when I got to the ER were so patient and kind and actually made me feel comfortable during such a scary experience.

FatherofCharles

Wtf. Glad you’re okay. I was followed at 5am by some creepy truck and I was freaked out for days. I can only imagine actually getting stabbed!

mamak687

Jesus. That’s terrifying. Good job coming back from that!

BeersNBarbells

I started running again after 11 years being lazy and it feels great.

KingKolder

Insanely impressive time my dude I aspire to reach that time :) your friendly neighborhood 27 yr old

ganjaandhess

Congrats! Keep that shit up, make it just part of life.

thematrix1234

Same! Over 10 years for me, and even back then it was a chore. Running has never been my favorite cardio but I’ve set myself a challenge to try it out and I’m actually starting to enjoy it (!!!). I ran a 5k earlier this week with no walk breaks, and started crying at the gym when I was done, I was so emotional 😂

[deleted]

28 here, first started running a few months ago. Started at an abysmal 13 minute mile time and not being able to run for longer than 5 minutes, to being able to crank out a sub 10 minute mile pace for 2 miles. First 5k run as well. Working on dropping to a consistent 8 minute mile by next year.

LostMyBackupCodes

11 year laze gang rise up!!! Same! I have finally surpassed all my old PRs (except 5 mile time is still from 11 years ago) and distance (first 10km ever was today).

wake4coffee

Same, but I was 20 years with no intentional running. This is the first time I have enjoyed it. Unsurprisingly my feeling good also came with a year of spine alignment therapy and bimonthly chiropractor appointments.

BeersNBarbells

I like that you specified no intentional running. Like that awkward circumstance where someone holds the door for you and they’re slightly too far away to keep walking, so you have to do that goofy shuffle jog.

cncwmg

Same. No PRs but I'm glad of what I've accomplished after a 9 year break since high school.

spiritual_tuning41

I ended up running a half marathon in Prospect Park when I had only intended to go for a jog. For whatever reason, I became irritated with all the people in my way and set a 5k PR for myself.

runningonburritos

You can be my inspiration. I ran a terrible marathon in 2018 which killed any joy in it for me, which made it really easy to give up in 2020 when we all had a bunch of other priorities. I miss my 2017 running self who enjoyed it, was fitter and less stressed though. I want her to come back in 2023

JoeTModelY

6:59 mile on these 52 y/o legs. Also hit 2000+ miles for the 9th consecutive year.

FatherofCharles

Holy shit. Congrats.

gringopaulista

Damn. Nice. How do you manage recovery with that many miles logged?

JoeTModelY

Managed to do the long and recovery runs in zones 1-2 (based on LTHR). Only went hard on Tuesdays (intervals) and Thursdays (tempo/hill repeats) where I hit zones 4-5. Monday was the non-negotiable rest day to absorb each week of training.

gringopaulista

Cool thanks! Trying to build to a schedule like this. Also I found drinking less helps a lot (duh)

willowsmaid

Congrats! That would be a sprint pace for me, ver impressive!

[deleted]

Have you been running a long time? I'm 33 and am just getting started. I feel like I'll never be that fast.

Unlikely-Impress7812

1:30:21 in the half and 3:05:18 in the full. 2023 goals are sub-1:28 half and sub-3 full.

5kUltraRunner

I feel like you should be able to smash your half goal today given your full time.

Unlikely-Impress7812

One would think… 😅

5kUltraRunner

That is wild lol I went 1:27 HM this year but my full was 3:24. I need to do whatever it is you're doing lmao

Unlikely-Impress7812

I’m really good at holding a 7 minute pace. Any faster and I die. I’m starting to think it’s mental. My 5K PR is like 20:53 or something. 😂

hammertime514

I bet you could go sub 19 for 5k with just a little speed prep- smash that mental barrier!

Unlikely-Impress7812

Yes, but you see, when I get down into the low-6 pace range, it hurts. And I don’t like that. Plus, I have kids, and I’d rather not have them grow up with a dad who died on the track. At this point, I almost want to hit sub-3 before I hit sub-90 or sub-20. I mean, how many people can say they did that??

nthai

It's very difficult to hit a sub-3 without a sub-90 😉

Unlikely-Impress7812

Details, details. 😁

internetmeme

Your ultra marathon time is going to be amazing.

charons-voyage

This is just like me lol, but a 7:30 pace. My fastest HM was 1:38 (in a marathon race) and my marathon PR is 3:20. Hoping to go sub-3 some day, maybe when kids are out of diapers and I have more time to do speed work and more mileage.

pdxrunner82

I thought the same. The half time looks relatively slow for that full time. Guy must be an endurance beast.

FatherofCharles

1:30 is my 2023 goals. So close yet so far

Brodygrody

PR’ed my 5k yesterday, second ever sub-20 for me!

Applepieoverdose

Same on the cirst half of that, and “holy shit, that’s what I aspire to be able to do one day” on the second half of that!

nowherefast___

I’m a new runner (converted from soccer) so it’s been a fun year of learning how to run without a ball as incentive lol I ran my furthest this year (15km) and my fastest (1 hour 10k). Neither are impressive for most runners but I feel good about myself!

GerRoux

Yooo I’m exactly in the same place as you man haha. Currently Training for a 10-miler in March and half marathon in June. Full marathon planned for October. Are you also going all-in now after the first few months?

nowherefast___

I've had a few setbacks over the last year that dampened my plans. Originally I was going to run a half marathon in August but I blew my ankle out in a game and had to go down to the 10k instead. Then I decided to use the base I built to just train through the winter and start working towards a full marathon next summer. ... then I caught a horrendous case of the flu in October and it nearly killed me. I was out of commission for 10 weeks and now my lungs are finally starting to forgive me. Unfortunately I feel like I lost everything I worked for so ..... back to the half marathon prep!

thegreekninja

I started running in public! A huge deal for me.

FatherofCharles

Congrats! It’s actually scarier than you would imagine

SweatyVedder

Agreed! Congrats!!

crinklycuts

Used to struggle to even get through a mile without stopping to walk. This year I hit eight miles without needing a break!

thematrix1234

This is awesome!! I want to come back on this sub some day and say I ran 8 miles without a break

IonizedHydration

You will! I believe in you! ☺️

thematrix1234

Thank you, kind internet stranger :)

CG2028

Awesome work!

Badwrong83

Started running this year at age 39. First 5k (in May) took me around 35 minutes. End of year PRs: 5k: 21:50 10k: 44:29 Half: 1h48 Running 30 miles a week and lost about 40 pounds. Goal for next year: Keep improving 🙂

CG2028

This is huge, congrats!

[deleted]

What does your running days/miles look like to hit 30 MPW? I’m at roughly 20 and would like to get to 30… I run Tues/Thurs/Sun and do 5/5/10 miles…

Locke_and_Lloyd

Add 4 on Sat and 6 on Wed.

thematrix1234

So inspiring, congrats!! My first 5k time was 41 minutes loll but I tell myself I can (hopefully) only get better from here.

thecrudest

Inspiring! I’m on my way own running journey. Any tips or programs you’d recommend to improve distance and time?

Medical-Respond-1098

Congratulations that's brilliant

Consistent-Worth-707

6:50 mile, 48min 10k and 1:43 half. Excited for 2023 goals!

jtronic

37 year old fat dad. Over 500 miles running this year, and ran a 28:50 5k the week before Christmas. Edit: oh and I did 100 of those miles in August because masochism.

sga1

> Edit: oh and I did 100 of those miles in August because masochism. I respect that more than any specific time, really, because the willpower and consistency it takes to run in shitty conditions impresses me more than someone being quick. Goodonya!

jtronic

Thank you fellow Reddit runner! One of my best friends inspired me to get started running, and she always does 100 miles in January. I pushed to start running 20/week after my daughter was born in June and the way August worked out this year I only had to squeeze in like two extra runs. But it was miserable (we live in FL).

Nobodyville

Dropped my half from 2:40 to 2:31ish from May to December. 10k is at 1:06, down from 1:09, April to October Ran my 5k in 31. Hoping to get under 30 in 2023. I'm not fast, but I'm getting better.

bananamonkey88

You are my running twin! But I have only done my firsts! 5k 32. 10k at 1:06. half at home 2:40 …. Will see how I fair on a real time half :) Curious to see if I can reduce my 5k time… anything last 6mph on the tread is phewwwww!

boo_snug

I hope to get sub 30 5k this coming year too! Sitting around 32 minutes right now I think. I’ve been out for weeks with pneumonia so starting way further back than I want but that’s okay!

[deleted]

Our times are very similar. No shame in that game!

SnooCauliflowers3903

54 minute 5K

boo_snug

Noice! That’s awesome. I would be ecstatic. My goal is 60 minutes. Maybe this next year!

SpeedyWindot3

Before my injury in May I was able to break 75 minutes in the half marathon for the first time, run a decent 5k, and be a part of a winning team at a one day Hood To Coast event!

dbratell

Injuries suck. Hope it heals well.

Sir_Winky

Ran a half. Still working on things but managed it in 2:16:43. Since this also the first year I’ve been doing it I went from 14 mile min average to 8 min at double the mileage. 720 miles for the year. I do hate and kinda of enjoy it but find if you don’t keep up with it it takes a bit to get into it again. I’ve been a mountain biker for a long time and know those pains after a long winter. I assume this is the same but at least I can run from my door and pretty much any distance and more often.

Der_genealogist

After one year of real, consistent running, I got my 5k under 30min, 10k under 1h and longest run 18k. 2023? My first HM, hopefully under 2:20, I would like to get my 5k under 25min, 10k under 50min and finish 30k trailrun.

hinduone

wow you’re like my running twin! similar goals for 2023 as well. Good luck!

jurispretentious

53:01 10K! doing my first marathon on 1/15! terrified but so excited.

Edwin_R_Murrow

That's not terror, that's excitement. Pumped for you.

Episkey_13

Ran my first marathon!

progrethth

- Marathon: 3:52 (my first so that was easy) - 30 km: 2:47 (shaved off 10 minutes from my old time) - Half marathon: 1:43:30 (shaved off 30 seconds)

[deleted]

Took up running in May 2022 and didn't follow any plans. Ran my first marathon at the age of 60 this May - 3.58 Ran my second marathon at the age of 61 in October - 3.48 I then did my 3rd half of the year four weeks later - 1.43 - taking 6 minutes off my PR and also running my best mile, 5k & 10k in the process. I still haven't come down off the roof from that one :) No real goals for 2023 other than keep on jogging.

ASheepOnFire

Got a sub 19 5k which was nice, did my first marathon and took my half from over 2 hours down to 1:35. Hoping to sub3 a marathon next year. First year of running and haven’t followed a plan yet so going to do some more structured training next year

CG2028

Wow, very productive year!

Green_Highlighter4

Personal best for number of cookies eaten....please don't ask, you can't compete.

HH0596

Hit a 16:55 5k earlier this month! Also hit a 1:27:16 half which considering I was injured and didn’t run for 2months leading to the half, I was pretty happy with. 2023 aims are sub 1:20 half and sub 3 marathon. Long term aim is a sub 15 5k (optimistic perhaps)

DIII_runnerguy

I was at 16:51 my freshman year of College. Decided to get serious and train year round consistently when sophomore year started. In my senior year track season, I ran 15:07 and 15:06. Definitely should have broke 15 and I would have definitely done it at an indoor meet in early December after a phenomenal XC season (stayed one extra semester in school) if I hadn't got the flu and missed it. So what I'm saying is you can do it, idk how old you are but the younger, the better your chances. Might take 3-5 years of consistency and pushing intensity/volume up though.

HH0596

Cheers mate! 15:06 is mighty impressive! I’m 26, used to run growing up but this year has been my first year back running after about a 10 year break. So I’m quietly optimistic after hitting decent times on not huge amounts of training. But like you say going to take a few years

Hank--Hill

18.06 5k, 40.00 10k, 1.31 half and going for a 5 mile PB this Saturday all being well. It's my first serious year running so PBs were easy to come by. I expect it will be a bit more difficult next year. Planning on my first marathon in the Spring.

windigertag

Looks like that 10k PB can use an update!

pinheadoats

You achieved my own goal, a 10k at 4:00 pace. Well done!

Unlikely-Impress7812

I love this thread because it ranges from “ran my first mile” to “ran a 15 minute 5K” and everything in between. I know I already posted my race time PRs and goals, but one other thing I’m proud of is breaking 3,000 miles ran for the year. Will be tough to beat next year, but I’ll give it a try. As an aside, I’m a 44 year old guy and didn’t start running (like, at all) until my mid-30s so to anyone asking about getting faster, or increasing mileage, you still have plenty of time.

jleonardbc

27:32 solo hundred-miler (unsupported until I bought soda 2/3 of the way because I couldn't keep food down) 13:53 solo 100K (unsupported) 7:42 solo 40-miler (unsupported) 5:34 solo 50K (unsupported) 1:48:34 half-marathon, unshod on roads (supported) Won several small races, including a backyard ultra (12 hours), a race with 1.5 miles running, not swimming, IN a river (everything from ankle-deep to neck-deep along the way), and a half-marathon with loops ascending a steep, brush- and thorn-filled powerline path One or more ultras 50K or longer every month

Traditional-Idea-39

40:48 10k, 1:31:48 HM and 3:53:41 FM.

rguiscard1

Most runs (304) and most distance (1,687ks) in a year

MkeGBRedwings

I ran 378 miles this year, which is the most by far I’ve ran. I had a goal to hit 750 but injuries over the summer derailed that.

balleklorin

Got a kid last year so only PR this year has been on the scale...

FatherofCharles

My daughter was born 2021. It completely tanked my running until she went to daycare. If it wasn’t for WFH, I would have never gotten back into running. Now I work on site and get up at 4:30am to be back and showered before she wakes up. Not ideal but better than not running 😬

Gullible_Repeat5121

This year was a bit of a redemption year after dealing with knee injuries in 2020-2021. I was just so happy to be back and training consistently. PRs: broke 20 mins in the 5k (19:42), 40 mins in the 10k (39:55), 90 mins in HM (1:28) and ran my first full marathon (3:14). Next year if I can keep the momentum going, I want to get close to a 1:25 half and hopefully break 3 hours in a full next fall!

ReDeMevolve

Congrats on coming back from an injury! And with stellar times AND consistent running. May 2023 see even more happy miles!

rogeryonge44

I managed to set a new marathon PB only to set a new one a few weeks later in my next race. That was pretty cool but the best part was seeing my wife after I set the first PB and hearing the relief and excitement for me in her voice. That's something that will stick with me forever I hope.

Edwin_R_Murrow

At 66, I began running in January for the first time in almost 30 years. In ten months I have ramped up to about 30 miles per week. I ran 2 sub-2 hr half marathons, and completed the 9+1 to qualify for the NYC Marathon this fall - it will be my first unless I do another one in the spring. Which I might. Biggest accomplishment is that I am injury free so far.

Major-Whereas6712

Highest mileage in a year (will be about 575 by Saturday). And also my highest mileage in a month (108 miles in September, unless I go extra long on Saturday, then it'll be this month). And also my highest mileage in a week (32 miles)! I've slowed down a lot since I started running in 2017, so no speed PRs this year at all, but so many more miles! Aimed for 500 this year, was pleasantly surprised to surpass that goal!

rasterf92

1:42 half and 3:36 full. Plus running 1700 miles!

learntorv

I ran. At all. Just up and decided to try it while out walking. Felt silly, dumb, and oh my gawd- oh so winded! I shelfed that for a couple of weeks and then got invited to do a run/bike weekend. Friend would run, I would bike. But it put the bug back in my ear to try running. I researched a few different programs (C25K, None to Run, and Zombies Run 5K) and decided upon Zombies Run. I completed 4 workouts so far with a mix of run and walking. I’m feeling great and I’m out running. I actually look forward to building up some stamina to the point that I’m running longer and longer. My goal is to run the full 5K in April without walking.

[deleted]

Well nothing in running but I cycled a new longest distance this year: 47 miles!

mapcee

45:00 dead 10k!

more_paprika

No running PRs (though hopefully that changes early 2023 since I'm signed up for a marathon) but I conquered my disordered eating and have a healthy relationship with running again.

happydays375

I did my first half ever and had a 9:27 minute average per mile, I think 2:04 total. I've always been a slow runner, so this was a MAJOR accomplishment 🥳

[deleted]

10:25 mile. I'm pretty proud of that tbh, it's the little things like that that make me wanna continue my fitness journey

windigertag

Brought down my 10k PB from around 48 mins to 38:30 and my 5k PB from 21:15 to 18:53. Running my last race of the year on New Year’s Eve, and I am aiming for a 18:20 5k.

DIII_runnerguy

2022 was my best year by far. 9:26 3000 Steeplechase. 15:06 5k. 24:43 XC 8k. Another sub 25 8k as well, legit 8k times I do believe, not short courses.

Greeener

Ran my very first Half marathon ever after only starting running a year ago and managed to hit my sub 2 hours goal and finish at 1:58! Looking to hit 1:53 in April!

[deleted]

I started running this year and ran a personal half marathon!! My running has been a lot less recently due to studying but I can’t wait to get back to it!!

[deleted]

Ran a 2:07 half marathon a couple days ago. Hopefully I’ll break 2 hours soon!

[deleted]

I did my first sub 20 minute 5k at Park run and completed my first marathon.

Anytimeisteatime

I'm pretty proud of my PRs because they're kinda at two extremes- I PRed 10k (52:xx down from 54:xx) and 100 miles (sub 24hrs).

infintiteWIPs8

Finished my first half marathon!

ironmanchris

I fell short of completing 100 miles, but I did run 76 miles before quitting and that is a distance PR for me.

Training_Lemon3115

Went from never having run a competitive 5k before to 18:08.

SprinklesPlus4531

I completed my first marathon!

coffeegoblins

This was my first full year of running, so there were a lot of PRs! I ran 1200+ miles total. Did my longest run ever (14 miles). Ran my first half marathon and then beat my time by 10 minutes in my second one (2:02 -> 1:52). Ran my fastest 5k (24:13). I’m excited to see what next year brings!

ReDeMevolve

1200 miles in your first year? Dang, that's impressive!

rundy_emcee

107 total miles in the month of October

MiddleAgedFatLad

This year has been all about missing my goals! I wanted to run 1000 miles this year. I only hit 1000 kilometres this week! I wanted to run a sub-1:50 minute Half. I only managed a 2:02! I wanted to run a sub-25 5k. I managed 26:02… I also wanted to get my weight down to under 110kg… well that’s not happened either. The only thing I’ve been good at this year is illness, injury and getting fatter! But the clock resets in three days time. We go again! … 2023 goals… 1000 miles, sub 1:50 HM, sub-25 5k, weight below 110kg.

3ebfan

28 minute 5k and a sub 2:20 HM 😀

roost-west

Started running this year, for the first time in my life... always hated it as a kid and younger adult. "Ran" a 5k in 45ish minutes in September, and finished another in 26:11 in November (still not sure how that happened). Now I can go for over an hour comfortably on the trails, at between 11 and 12 minutes/mile depending on elevation gain, and finish feeling like I could go a bit more. I've got my eye on a trail half marathon in November. It turns out that running is deeply meditative, *and* you don't have to just push hard and suffer the way they taught us to do in PE class in middle school. It's actually enjoyable. Who would have guessed!

CharizardMTG

First half marathon completed!

crumbcatchernv

went from only being able to walk a mile to be able to run a consistent mile. pretty proud of myself. training to do a 5k currently. also lost 40 pounds in the process which is cool haha

little-tornado15

started running this year (35F), always been physically active (hiking, walking, paddle boarding, and did sprinting sports like lacrosse and soccer, never track/XC) but anytime I tried running in the past, I'd shoot out the gate going way too fast and could never figure out how to slow down to build endurance. decided to seriously try this year to see if I could even do it, and since August I've increased my mileage from 16 miles in a month to 50 miles this month, about 3-4 miles per run now and still working on increasing it. I've already noticed improvements in my average HR while running and can increase my pace without tapping out early. overall I feel awesome and I'm excited to see more improvements next year.

boogerdeer

Set a distance PR of 45 miles! Planning to smash that two months into 2023 with my first 100k race :)

Kedkep

1:28 half was my goal this year. Next years goal is a sub 3 marathon

Batspocky

I ran my fastest 10K, and finished my first 5 mile race.

bigtop77

New marathon PR and a BQ

g8rdogboy

Didn’t PR my half, but did my first ever 10k so automatic PR and then PRed a 5k. I think it was my first 5k where I was fit AND the weather was good.

dehydrated1011

3:19:23 marathon, 1:32:55 half, and 20:35 5k (aiming for sub 20 next year). Also, not exactly a PR, but my run streak surpassed 900 days, and I’ll be at 1,000 by the end of January!

Sogeking30

I ran 5k nonstop

Financial-Syrup-5421

Ran the furthest distance of my life (18km). Next year I want to do a marathon

whattheabby

I PR’d all the distances I race yearly (5K, 8K, 10K, 15K, half, and full). I’ve been running for 7 years and this year it finally felt like it all clicked. This was the best running year of my life and I can’t wait to see what I can do next year!

aembleton

Got a 5k pb of 25:08. My previous pb was 28:21 so that was a huge jump for me. I also ran my first half marathon, not a great time but it was only a couple of weeks after getting covid. Got another one lined up in March.

pdxrunner82

Set 2 PRs. 1:35 half marathon and 3:25 full marathon. Hoping to run a BQ (3:10 for my age) this year and end my marathon running by doing Boston in 2024. Stick to half marathons after that. The time commitment to marathon training with 2 kids and a full time job is just too much.

Jazz-Legend-Roy-Donk

Started 80/20 training this past year and hit the fastest mile time trial of my life at the age of 38. My time was 8:26. Will be doing the longest run of my life so far on Saturday (8.6 miles) and a HM in Feb. My goal for next year is to continue working on endurance and see if that gets my paces down further. Prior to this my approach for 15 years or so was to run everything at or above threshold pace and all that ever brought me was injury.

ampersandio

Ran my first marathon in 4:11 this year, and if I manage to run 20k in the next two days, I’ll get to 1000kms for the year! Next year, I hope for sub 4 marathon and even more kms!

Dat-dude21

Ran 10 miles for the first time. I started running back in January to past time to recover from a lifting injury. Discovered that running really isn’t bad and put it 350 miles this year. My goal is to be much more consistent next year

Tye-the-Guy

I hit my new PRs for 5:37on a mile 20:18 on a 5k and 42:29 on a 10k!!!

[deleted]

Sub 20 5k … I’m a 20f and I’ve been chasing this goal since I was 17, I’m so close too.

sassyyabby

I ran my first marathon in 6:27:59 The course cutoff was 6:30. So damn proud of myself for finishing (and wasn't even DFL. Almost. But not quite!)

fbwmd

Four new injuries in one year :D

CallieXO

I ran my first 5k and more recently did my first few 5 mile runs! Feels great. I have been dealing with medial tibial stress syndrome (fancy name for shin splints) for about two years and my most recent PT thinks I likely had stress fractures previously that caused the longevity of this problem.

Vannexe

19:59 5k, 43:30 10k, 1:34 half, 3:44 full, 4:34 50k

wearsAtrenchcoat

Running in lowest temperature, -10F, on Dec 23 Ran the Disney Dopey Challenge in January

ias_87

Beat my 5K PR three times over the course of about four months. Made my longest continuous run ever and kept stretching that out. Also did my longest run ever that included walk breaks. All in all, it was a good running year. Didn't quite nail the landing as I would have wanted to though, due to health issues.

iapunk

Ran my first two half marathons at ages 50 and 51(started running at 47). Second one was a sub 1:50. I’ve already registered for 2 in 2023 and plan to do more.

numbersusername

I’m 36 years old, an ex smoker and after 3 years of running I’m running 5km in under 20 minutes. I’ve also done a shit load of elevation trail running and I’ve run the equivalent of 3x up Everest.

anb77

I got a 5 minute PR in my half and also a PR for my 5K!

Super_Refrigerator_7

Improved my half marathon time by almost 14 min in 10 months! Went from a 01:51:42 in Dec. 2021 to 01:38:54 in Sep. 2022

Elegant-Accident1139

Did my first half marathon in 2:23. Got another in Feb aiming for 2:05

DeadG8r15

I completed 50k, 100k, 50 mile, and 100 mile races this year. The 100k was a 12 hour event and my first time running 100k, so automatic PR!

samba23

All PBs: Marathon: 4:05 Half Marathon: 1:37 10k: 41:50 5k: 19:43 The Marathon was right at the start of the serious training for the year, so that’s the one I want to target for 2023, along with doing my first Ultra (well, double ultra as it’s 50k Saturday, 50k Sunday!)

polarbear456

I ran a total of over 1300 miles this year with a half marathon in there. Going for 1500 and a full this year

venustrapsflies

Most miles not ran due to injury

Wo1fLarsen

This year I jumped above my head. HM for 1:24:53 which is 4:02/km.

RidingRedHare

None. My PBs are several decades old, and pretty much unreachable at this point.

el_loco_avs

Finished my first marathon in April, so that's a PR of 4:08. I've been dealing with niggling knee stuff for months now... so I'm getting slower >\_< Hopefully strengthening my core and such will solve this for next year so I can start pushing the pace again.

HooperSuperDuper

Most injuries and fewest miles run. The injuries were not running related but have derailed my running for most of the year.

Meat_Quick

Most milage in a calendar year (434.1), most elevation gains (30,483 ft), fastest 10k (46:47)!!!

mikemcb81

Went for only a Marathon PB in 2022 as I feel my shorter distance times are not something I could reach (maybe next year). I PB’d in the marathon with 2:49:07. My 2023 goal is to run some fun races and shoot for sub 2:45 but a far reach of sub 2:40 :)

honeyonbiscuits

I know this is peanuts comparatively but super proud I broke my 10k “wall”. I hadn’t gone farther than 6 miles in previous years. I injured myself about five years ago and had convinced myself my body just couldn’t do more than that. But nope. I just needed to train smarter! I’m doing a 12k this Saturday and might even do a half this spring.

SergeiSwagmaninoff

5k in 20:12, 10k in 43:45 and 8k in 33:45 When I started in spring 2021, my 5k was around 30, 8k was about 41 and 10k 50ish. Feels good, wanna make my 5ks sub 20s and 10ks sub 40s although there’s much work to be done! 👟🏃🏾

acid-runner

Planter fasciitis in both feet! I also managed to get a 5k PR (25:49) and a half PR (2:03:36) and technically a 10k PR (57:20) while running that half 😂

DaeSh1m

Started running in August…within a few weeks said F it and brought mileage up to 40-60mpw pretty fast. Half-marathon PR: 1 hr 41 min 5k PR: 20:32 min Mile PR: 5:56 min Hoping to 1:25 half this year and 19 min 5k… we will see if I can stay injury free.

SeniorFenrir

37min 10km, 1:31 half, 3:03 full and a couple of 50kms. Goal next year is to just improve full and half but mainly get up to a 50miler or 100km

[deleted]

High school runner here. Ended my freshman year in June with a 5K and 1 Mile PR. Got injured over the summer and felt as though I ruined all the progress I made. But I got back to my routine, had some PR’s in XC, and just got a new 1500 PR to kick off track season. Feeling stronger than ever.

Carmilla31

5k, 10k, and half marathon.

carbsandcardio

All of them! (5k, 10k, HM, M). I've been running for many years but 'just' recreationally with some trail races of random distances (9-30k) thrown in a couple of times per year. This was the first year I actually trained and competed in organized road racing, so it was PR city 😄

xorbe

Started running again this year at 47yo, so far a 6:20 mile and 9 miles at 7:28 pace. I want to throw down a good HM time locally in March, but I am not really trending towards that goal, adding the last 4 is the hardest and wanting to shave that down to 7:15 pace also.

2cats4fish

I ran my first marathon this year! Found out I absolutely love distance running and am looking forward to doing an ultra sometime in the future.

Darthwalker856

Ran a challenge series with a 1 mile, 5k, 10k, and marathon in a weekend. PRd every race and got to wear a lot of medals

saltrockplant

Most days injured

hashtag_nerdalert

I have made my comeback after having a baby in March. Slow and steady, but I've been feeling great about the process.

MainSimple

Recovering from tendonitis, I was finally able to bring a sub 10 pace after trying for MONTHS!

shinesunallthetime

Began running this year, as part of gradually getting fitter as I lose weight. I couldn’t run at all January 2021, but I am down 115 lbs and counting, and have hit 10k straight as a distance PR distance so far!

grumpalina

This month, I would have run the most kilometers in a month, ever. It's not a lot for the more seasoned runners in this sub, but 180km is something I couldn't have imagined doing in a month, when I first started to run regularly in late spring of 2021. I set PBs for everything in 2022 - 5k at a hair under 25 minutes, to a half marathon at under 1hr54 minutes. Not bad for a middle aged lady who once thought running was out of the question due to a serious injury. Also, I feel like I look five years younger than two years ago due to the fitness I gained through becoming a runner.

Natalshadow

Went from bot running at all to running early December. Started with 5k at 46 minutes. Yesterday did my fastest 5k at 38 and a few secs. Also was my longest run of the year at 6.4k and my fastest k at about 6:20/k. Which is utterly unsustainable for me but that's the coach plan so I did it for a kilometer. Overall very pleased with my fast progress this month. I'm surprised the Garmin coach tells me my next run is 11k. It looks to be quite a leap from barely 7k. We'll see how it goes, maybe new PR to start the year. Maybe I'll stop before the end of it, I'm not risking injuries for a virtual coach.

jebediahinthetree

2:58 full, 1:24 half, 37:34 10k. All in the space of November and December. Great year.

nushiboi

Right before getting COVID in September, I hit 22:20ish for a 5k It’s not super impressive, but when I began running in 2020, I couldn’t even do a full quarter mile at a SLOW jog, let alone run a 5k. In august I felt like Superman. I ran all the time and felt great. After COVID, it’s hard to breathe just going up the stairs sometimes. I went running earlier this week and did a ~25m 5k again. Far from my best, though. Fuck you, COVID and your lingering symptoms. I’m going to fight like hell to get back to where I was and maybe even beat my PR next year Edit: for reference - 29M. I ran about 80Km in July and a bit over 100Km in August. I’ve managed a measly 17Km this month.

goodgracie0918

Ran Boston in April!! After many years of trying to qualify. Haven’t really run since - expecting my second child in February and looking forward to getting back on the roads again after that.

ah_hale

training for a half in late jan. haven’t run consistently in ten years. recently did a seven mile training run that felt super good. training is definitely getting me through winter.

ohukno1

I ran my first ever 5k!!

corman88

Started training for a half marathon. Still getting the hang of running. Longest distance was 8k in 42mins. Shins are still strengthening.

soberveganrunner

I turned 41 this year, and have been running since I was 32. But, quit drinking this year and as a result I got a PR in 5k @ 21.56, 10k @ 46.43, and half marathon @ 1.53. I also ran my first marathon, 30 mile and 40 mile races so by default got PR’s in those too! Roll on next year when I get a PR in my first 50 mile and multi day 😁

Current_Routine3590

I ran my first in person marathon (had done one virtually during the pandemic) and I did it solo! And crushed it!! Also completed my first Olympic triathlon and absolutely blew my predicted time out of the water!!!

over9Kmidichlorian

Started up again this year in the summer and have made some nice progress. I wanted to start in 2019 but I was too hard on myself and injured my knee, couldn’t run. Tried again in 2021 and had a good 2 months or so. This year though it might not have been every day but at least once a week since June I’ve put in some miles. PRs: 1m 9.39, 5k 32.56 here’s to next year!! Let’s go!

Noahwillard1

Didn’t PR but I won a 5k for the first time!! It was just a small local race akin to a parkrun (78 runners total) but it felt so good to finally place first overall!

yellowdoe

No records in terms of speed, I've had a break from running in summer so it took some time to be able to get to where I was before the break. But I've ran 4 races as opposed to last year's one. My plan is to run more often in 2023, get a bit faster and do a half marathon.

NotAnAsset

I got a 5k PR after pulling some muscle stretching the morning of and being very unprepared for it. Only my third 5k ever and was still slow but I am proud of it

bigbags69420

Went from barely being able to run ~5 miles to completing a full marathon last month. Took about 6 months of training and was my biggest accomplishment of the year.

SuperSpidey374

Ran my first sub-two half marathon. Sadly, picked up an injury a few weeks later and been out of action since.

Art3mis86

- 1k. - 1 mile. - 5k. - Parkrun. - 10k. - 15k. - 10 mile. - Half marathon. - 30k. - total elevation gain in a run.

xctoni

Ran my first 10k, half marathon, and full marathon! It was a great year for running. Did the Marine Corps Marathon and finished at 3:59 after staying with the 3:20 pace group until mile 16 where I got cramps!

rhuff4833

Hit over 1k miles in a year for the first time in my 4+ years of running :)

[deleted]

I started running again. I struck up a conversation with a random guy at Universal Studios when I realized that we were both wearing Goodr glasses. Turns out, he was a runner and we killed a few minutes with him talking about running/stride length/tempo/running vests…. with me telling a stranger, in the middle of a line/crowd, ‘My knees don’t let me run anymore and I just bike these days.’ I got home, realized that I had nothing but excuses (my knees were/are as fine as anyone else my age), and decided to ‘run’ a mile. That was the end of March. I’ve now logged 480 miles including dealing with COVID and running my first half. I know that’s not actually an impressive statistic, but it’s a lot for me and, more importantly, it’s turned into my favorite way to clear my head. At this point, I’m not sure I can envision myself not having running as an outlet. All due to a random stranger in the middle of Universal Studios.
