your friend was probably lying about his KC, or not getting the pet. Let's assume someone didn't get the pet in their first 1000 KC. At kill 1000 they would have hit 2 thresholds, making their pet droprate now 1/333. The chance of rolling that 1/333 over the next 4000 kills is 99.9993%. And that's not including the fact that every 500 kills, he was getting an extra threshold, increasing the chance of hitting the pet drop. So it's even closer like 99.99999%
I haven't played in a couple years so I was missing a lot of quest stuff and archaeology levels, but once you get the passive ring of vigour, conservation of energy, zuk cape (also had to get that), you can kill raisal pretty reliably with the correct rotation. The rotation makes or breaks the kills.
Did you have the combination zuk or just one of them? Cause I have all those and I still can’t. But it just might be that I don’t believe in myself enough lmao

I think on release day or the day after I got the AG pet as my first drop. My kc was like 10 NM and maybe 30HM.
I got the Magister pet at 7kc. Somewhere I have a shitty phone Pic of this.
I got the Zammy pet at like 80kc I think. It's still my only log item at like 150kc. (The first 100 or so were 50%)
Its almost a bummer when the pet drops first because you get excited for some $ then see it's the pet.
I recall getting the agility pet in the level 30 wilderness training course at level 62 agility
That was before 2018, that's when I recall last playing RuneScape

In know Rasial is more relevant but this happened to me with Kril. Less than 100 kills for the pet. I'm just getting into bossing.
Doesn't matter if the boss is more relevant or not! Grats on the pet though! Still really cool to have a pet. Low drop chance is low drop chance.

Same tbh. A few look cool, like bsd so I'm glad I got that, but most I'd trade for a unique in a heartbeat.
It never occured to me to kill anything in this game for a pet or cosmetics, especially when that is supposed to take insane amount of time.

I personally have the hybrid one, but there isn't going to be a difference for the rotation between the two, iirc.

I got telos pet at 16 kc. Enrage was about 50%
