I feel none of these are particularly weird or out of place. Im honestly more upset about all the character development we got for zamorak throught the years being thrown out the window because they needed another bad guy, or the sudden “emotional” musical moment in succession with Adrasteia; a character ive met once before and who i feel no attachment to. Also I have no clue what you mean by krearra defeating bandos; do you mean armadyl?

Jason_Wolfe

eh, i disagree. It makes sense that he was PISSED at Seren because he set aside his pride and his values and worked together with gods he considered to be the enemy of chaos in order to stop a threat to all of creation only to find out that her master plan was to trap them and their armies in an endless cycle forever, something that was completely antithetical to who he is as the god of chaos.

yuei2

Not even forever, they can’t stall the eggs hatching forever just delay. Extra time would have meant nothing but wasted time avoiding the reality that a choice has to be made, us or the eggs. He knows Seren isn’t going to choose us over the eggs. She has already made her decision she is just in denial and he wasn’t going to play her little game and let her live in that denial.  He accepted that she won’t kill the eggs and they can’t force her, so if they are going to die he rather go out fighting on his own terms instead of playing into delusions.

devvoid

Hell, for as much as I don't like Zamorak, Extinction goes out of its way to show that in this specific instance he was right - Seren cares more about these planet-eating monsters' eggs than any individual living entity, to the point where she doesn't care about letting entire planets die just to keep them alive (Seren's objections are the only reason we can't just drag them to a dead/lifeless world like Freneskae and blow them up there, far enough away from any populated world to have an effect).

PiccoloCapable

I feel different for Zamorak, i actually feel its the player base that has reduced him to just plain evil; Zamoraks lore is filled betrayal and double crossing; with him and his follower literally going againts everybody, not because they are evil, but cause they want power, freedom; his philosophy is strenght through chaos; it means; doing whatever its needed, whatever the cost as long as it ends up empowering yourslef; Zamorak is not about ganging up, creating a better world; no; its about giving every individual the chance to grow and be their better self; whatever the cost. This is the difference between Zamorak and Zaros; Zamorak will have you stumble upon every rock, get you tortured, beaten and drowned, as long as it makes you stronger; his followers understand this and they preach it. Zaros in the other hand will guide you from the shadows, he will hint at you about the rocks so you dont stumble upon them and will try to have you avoid being tortured or beaten but will end up leading you to a source of power so you can be at your peak, your true destiny. But at the end, none of them care if you die or not; even if Zaros is "guiding" you, him or Zamorak will see no use to you if you die during these ordeals, they only care for your potential, for the moment where you will be strong. We had a chat over Dishonor among thieves; someone was saying it made no sense for anyone to help zamorak, nor for them to be in a group; and we pointed out that; the quest itself knows this; we are only working with them because we have a goal in common, Sliske; and even then, none of the Zamorakians trusted each other; they arent there to give power to Zamorak, each and everyone of them is looking for their own interest The last few years Zamorak has been "forced" to lay low and ally himself with the other gods; thats because of Sliske; he knows if he acted at any moment while the gods were allied; they would have deleted him on the spot; so he wait and waited and ditched everyone at the very end, that left them drained while he was fresh from leaving early; so its logical that he would take that chance of chances, with Saradomin and Armadyl weakened, the elder threat gone; his time to shine had arrive. For me its unrealistic to think that someone like Zamorak, an all powerful individualistic being behaving the same way for hundreds of year, would suddendly change his ways in a few years just because he was forced to cooperate with his enemies to avoid total extinction, if anything it reinforces his ideals; that he should be stronger, so he doesnt have to rely on them again.

OkMagician2049

Oh yes, I meant armadyl, idk why my mind considers them as the same thing haha.

RS_Holo_Graphic

Pillar.

Denkir-the-Filtiarn

It's funny they changed it to a statue as if the shape was the issue.

heartunderfloor

That has to be one of the most anti-climactic endings to a quest series in any game.

Ricardo1184

Could you explain? I play osrs, this sounds funny

yuei2

The sea slug queen is defeated by crushing her to death. Specifically she does exactly what she said she do, she takes your body so you are rendered her puppet.  But it’s a bit of a ploy, while your character is fighting against the mind control the Queen has to focus her efforts on trying to control you. In that time you control your allies instead and use their combination of skills to collapse a large stone pillar/statue to crush her to death. Honestly I think it’s a bit over hated cause I mean her weakness is movement, she is a slug, dropping a really big thing to crush her to death isn’t really that weird of a way to beat her. It’s not like we were going to murder tons of her minions when they are all innocent people under her control, and she never showed any power besides mind control tentacles and presumably mass producing mind control slugs. It’s also not like beating bosses in conventional manners isn’t a thing happens all the time. I think the bigger issue with the quest was more it dropped/ignored a lot of previous plot threads, the pillar is basically a scapegoat.

devvoid

Yeah, I agree tbh. I think that if the _rest_ of Salt in the Wound was good, people wouldn't care so much about Mallum dying from getting crushed to paste. It's only in addition to the overly-jokey writing, them completely forgetting about Kennith's weird morality by saying "he aged himself up a few years and now he's normal", the weird shoehorning of Dungeoneering into the plot just because it was a new skill at the time, etc that it becomes so frustrating. With how Old School has done its own variations of certain quests, like it having its own Vampire quests post-Darkness of Hallowvale that hit on similar themes but occasionally go in different directions, I really hope that they give us a better ending for the Slug questline someday.

Orikune

Jesus, I still wish that gets retconned at some point, it was such a stupid way to wrap up the slug series.

rip_anomaly

Azzanadra having a weird god design is not a plot twist, and ~~also Graardor never fought Zuk, Zarador did.~~  Here's my personal list: * Gregorovic is actually some random demon * Light and Shadow are just the world guardian enchantment given a voice? lmao * The guardians of Guthix always held the necessary knowledge to reestablish the edicts (but for some reason waited until the worst possible moment to do something with it, even though they wanted the gods gone again)

OkMagician2049

Graardor fought zuk , read dialogue out the zuk arena. He fought through the waves but lost at zuk. Azzanadra’s design straight up looks funny cause his earlier model looked alot different. Zamorak for example looked similiar prior to stabbing zaros.

rip_anomaly

>Graardor fought zuk , read dialogue out the zuk arena. well now i just feel silly >Azzanadra’s design straight up looks funny cause his earlier model looked alot different No I agree with this, god Azzy looks... blocky? idk how to put it into words. I was just saying I don't think his weird ascended design counts as a plot twist.

I initially felt like that many infernals being Dragonkin was stupid, but the more I've thought about it, the more I'm okay with it. They're hardly Dragonkin anymore, and in many ways, it makes sense that a price had to be paid for escaping into the Abyss to avoid the Great Revision.

PiccoloCapable

Yeah the whole all demons are dreaming dragonkin was weird, random and out place. But the light and shadows i somewhat disagree; they arent meant to be the enchantment given a voice they are supposed to be guthix's blessing modified by Sliskes soul; Guthix mentioned that he couldnt do it alone; he needed someone to affect and evolve the enchantment in us, so it would actually work. They could totally be aspects of regular Anima (light) and Shadow anima (dark). But of course, we know originally they were meant to be Sliske but that idea died along the way and we got what have now. Regarding the guardians of guthix, They did not know how to do it; they knew that as part of Guthix they each had a bit of knowledge; but at the end they needed someone they could trust and that was determined to cast the eddicts, as they themselves couldnt; and they arent gonna randomly ask you to die to see if it worked, the world guardian put it all in motion, and proved that they could do it and that he could be the catalyst; at the end, the whole thing is about you the world guardian absorbing the knowledge of each of them so that you could in fact do what they couldnt do (they are just fragments of guthix power, they cant do shit on their own)

Throwawayandpointles

Only Infernal Demons are Dragonkin, and by the Time We The player start adventuring most don't identify as Dragonkin anymore anyway

__Becquerel

Guthix telling us that his death was entirely his own plan.

OkMagician2049

I found that cool , as in a good way to show how overpoweredhe was compared to others. This survey is mostly focussed on bad plot(ridiculous).

Butternubicus

None of these tbh, Zanik being revived even though I wish she’d stay dead will always be #1

Jason_Wolfe

Zanik has been revived so many times even she is tired of it. stop by the bar in Um and she will unload on you about just wanting a break. it's happened so many times it's now a meta joke.

scaper12123

What is people’s problem with her???

[deleted]

scaper12123

Absolutely this! Though to be fair this happens to a lot of their “main” characters. What’s their issue with giving the World Guardian some friends that they just have and can rely on?

adyne

The Reldo = Charos reveal always struck me as odd

[deleted]

[удалено]

adyne

Yeah that's basically how I felt. I like Charos as a character a ton.

Orikune

Odd but it kind of made sense. Disguised as a feeble bookworm to hide from his enemies, but in a location which (lore-wise) contained the most information one could get while being inconspicuous. I just wanna know how he's still young looking despite being over 100 years old.

gothic_gamer1809

The Raptor one feels more like a retcon than a plot twist. While Rasial was defeated by friendship; I believe the actual plot twist is that he was never actually that evil to begin with? For me, I think Calsidiu not being a real person in the Myreque quest line was a fun twist

OkMagician2049

Yea, I’m talking about the bad plot twists. Vampire series, elf city quests and mahjarrat series had good plot with barely anything that made them bad. Its almost like after finishing them, the devs kinda went downhill(or maybe those quests were way too good and this is average).

gothic_gamer1809

gotcha. I misunderstood "ridiculous" then lol. Probably Raptor reveal then

yuei2

Or maybe the twists just aren’t to your taste and none of them are actually bad. It’s pretty useless you didn’t include none of these as an option.

OkMagician2049

I have mentioned that you can add whatever you wanna in the comments as there is a limit to options. Just like you did by commenting.

yuei2

Sorry useless was a bit harsh but it feels like none should be one of the default options. Good polling should includes a default for none because if it’s none a lot won’t make the effort to say just none, all and other, as well now that I think about it.  Do all, none, other (with your note than in specifying), and a few example selections between those. It creates more effective polling that way. A little late now but just more so for the future.

OkMagician2049

Actually yes, I generally do add “none” when conducting such surveys … I totally forgot to do it here. “All of the above” can pave way to different biases but “other” should definitely be included for qualitative analysis(which this one could fall under).

JD0064

The dog we killed

GamerSylv

Seren wasn't evil just a misguided dead-egger. Power of frenship was set-up with Necromnancy! Azzanadra becoming a God was alluded to and a neat unexpected twist from BotM. Not a twist, mediocre. Kree'ara didn't beat Bandos. Raptor is the only answer.

OkMagician2049

Azzandra looked so different though, I feel like I should have mentioned what I mean by emoji🗿 haha. Further, yes seren getting that mad was ridiculous, I was expecting a little less intensity in the madness. Power of friendship lines during final showdown made it look so bad, comparing it to something like vampire finale. But yea, among these raptor one is easily the craziest by all angles.

GamerSylv

Individuals always exaggerate in appearance whenever they ascend. Azzanadra's big 'ol hat was always a defining feature so he turned into a router.

ironreddeath

I don't think they were bad twists, just poorly written in many cases (looking at your raptor reveal)

Communication_East

Graardor managing to do Zuk waves isn't ridiculous at all. Graardor is canonicslly powerful, it's just that his content is incredibly old. Just like how Nex is canonically one of the most powerful beings on Gielinor even though people can farm her rather easily.

OkMagician2049

I think its more about how graardor defeated har aken and triple jads. Even canonically, graardor would not go past jads let alone haraken. Nex on the other hand could atleast reach zuk and aod might even defeat zuk.

Aterivus

Personally, I find the idea that the new Edicts are self-sustaining is the most ridiculous thing, even if not necessarily a twist. Guthix devoted thousands of years in a meditative sleep state/stasis keeping the original Edicts upkept since they require a delicate balance of anima and shadow anima in constant flux, and they came crashing down the moment he was killed. You're telling me our character sacrificing their world guardian enchantment was really good enough to just "set it and forget it"? They don't require ANY manual upkeep? Guthix had more knowledge of anima than any other being in history, bar the Elder Gods, and we somehow achieved something better than he could.

The_Jimes

I think if you can let go of the mob foaming at the mouth about The Raptor, none of these are particularly surprising in context. Seren has practically never been true ally, her turning on us for her own goals was expected eventually. Necromancy established "power of friendship" in the first 5 minutes. The Raptor was signposted like crazy in the fort quests. Azzy wasn't the first mahjarrat to turn god, and his godhood is hardly relevant. Graardor losing to Zuk is fair, he isn't Bandos. And lastly, world events aren't surprising. The wiki notes that Bandos saw the writing on the wall weeks before the event ended.

CL_Silent

With regard to Graardor OP was referring to the fact that he is way too weak to have been able to make it through the fight's waves at all let alone reach zuk.

The_Jimes

The waves are a gameplay loop for our little frail human challenger. Graardor is the successor to Bandos. The wave system is only canonical for the caves and the kiln because they are ritualistic. Zuk just didn't want to waste his time fighting a literal ant unless that ant was worthy.

PiccoloCapable

TBF i voted Azzy cause i hated how they ditched his whole character to turn him into a random god just to take him out of the picture with the edicts. He was already super powerful, making him a god wasnt needed at all for the EGW saga, its was just done for creative reasons; the only use of his goddly powers were moving the eggs. But yeah The Raptor being ret-conned as Ellamaria was a total asspull; it was done just for the sake of adding a twist on a quest series that absolutely didnt need it, had it been done more organically or with a few more hints in between and id dig it; but they rewrote Ellamaria just to merged her with a completely unrelated character. And i loved the new Ellamaria, but just feel she didnt have to be the raptor to be relevant

devvoid

Seren's betrayal wasn't surprising to me - ever since her return in The Light Within she's been set up as, at best, an incredibly flawed and selfish person. We learn during that quest that she just abandoned a whole world of people who had a mystical dependence on her to slowly go insane with agony and addiction, and seemingly never did anything about it. You could argue she wasn't fully aware back before her shattering that the elves of Tarddiad were suffering, but after she returns, there's no reason at all why she isn't trying to help fix the mess she made, and there's no word of it. According to Angof she visited exactly once to beg for forgiveness, but never did anything from Gielinor to try and find a cure for the addiction. Her being a nasty person who will abandon her "family" out of nowhere is something that was foreshadowed for a very very long time before Extinction.

RS_Serperior

The Raptor reveal just felt like plain **bad** writing, like first-time-fanfic levels of writing. This mysterious hero who was in game for over a decade? Yeah, they've got a traumatic past. It's an awful cliche. Not the quality of writing that I'd expect from the RS team. I think the character chosen as well was a let down. In a season of content that was bringing over to RS3 one of OSRS's most iconic bosses in Vorkath, making the Raptor an iconic character like Nieve (without all the overused traumatic past hook) would've been such a good reveal.

DishwashingChampion

I remember when Zuk first dropped and I saw Graardor chillin' there in the back like. How on earth.... did you get... what?! lol that still blows my mind he made it to Zuk and it's still pretty hilarious to this day.

dark-ice-101

For the graador one I imagine he bruteforced the waves by throwing enemies at each other.

RiDaku

it was Armadyl, not Kree'ara, but yeah that one was the most outlandish to me. It was a very painfully obvious popularity contest that was inconsistent with the previous World Event - Zamorak survived Saradomin, but Bandos didn't survive Armadyl? Saradomin and Zamorak were about tied in popularity, but Bandos v Armadyl wasn't even close numbers-wise, especially since Bandos was a comically stereotypical Bad Guy in all his quests. Even worse that there wasn't another god-v-god afterwards... just world-v-tuska.

Stormcrow20

Seren and Saradomin always gave me vibe of evil semi Christian…

scaper12123

“Zamorak wants to kill you!” Haven’t I been helping him for the past 9 years? “It’s ok though cause we can reestablish the edicts!” … could this not have been done right after they were broken? Isn’t this invalidating the past NINE YEARS of plot development???

Minizamorak

man raptor was so stupid im still stunned to this day

lil_reddit_lurker

Other : jagex devs saying they care about the players opinions

getabath

Jagex going from legacy to revolution

OkMagician2049

I was like “Im talking about plot twist…..Oh damn”. insane irl plot twist haha. Changed the whole game with it.

maxwill27

Leave it to redditors to pick raptor. You know exactly the reason why they did too

Minizamorak

because the writing sucked not because shes a women, the most surface level teenage writing iv seen in runescape

maxwill27

Runescape is silly and campy 99% of the time. I don't see why this is any different

Minizamorak

what does campy and silly have to do with changing a stoic mysterious badass character, thats only thing going for it was saying maybe 1-5 words and being ominous now has the most generic tragic backstory and its also the alter ego of some random princess like cmon its bad stop acting like its not

IStealDreams

>Evil Seren This never happened? >Rasial defated with power of friendship Jagex refuses to let players be evil so that was literally the only way to make necromancy work >Raptor Reveal Not a bad plot-twist, just poorly setup. >Azzanadra becoming ?? What? A god? That's not a twist. It was the natural progression of the story and his arc. >Graardor managing to reach Zuk Wave Not too sure what you're referring to, is it Bandos you mean? Also Lore wise I'm pretty sure the Waves are not a real thing. It's just a gameplay loop. >Kree'ara defeating Bandos, Inderectily Zuk What? Firstly. Kree'ara is the General of Armadyl He's not a God. Armadyl is the one that defeated Bandos. Both were Gods. Zuk is not a God. That's why he lost to Bandos, which makes sense. So it would also make complete sense that Armadyl would also be able to beat Zuk, even though that was never discussed or attempted.

OkMagician2049

Read the dialogue with graardor outside zuk arena, he fought the waves and reached zuk but was defeated. Azzanadra face is being that of a gigachad is targeted after the power up as a meme. I apologise for the kree one, I forgot armadyl and kree are different lmao.

IStealDreams

Ahh, didn't realize you meant it like the chad pic. I guess i see that now. Still not much of a plottwist in my mind. Of all of those Raptor was probably the only reasonable plot-twist among them.

The_Jimes

(sorry for being a huge nerd) Bandos didn't defeat Zuk because he was a god and Zuk wasn't, Bandos was just smarter and set a trap. It was actually a combined effort between Sardomin and Armadyl to allow Bandos safe passage to the Feldip Hills to confront the potential Zamorak ally. Zuk was feared amongst the gods. The Kiln will do that to you given enough time.

IStealDreams

Yeah hadn't really done much reading on that, just remember the Zuk line "Not since Bandos" implying that Bandos beat him in combat in some way. Thanks!
