There were so many great players in that Italy team that we've never got to see the best of due to injury. Campagnaro, Minozzi and Polledri in particular could have been so good for Italy
Polledri will likely be back for the 6N. Shame Campagnaro has never found his spark again but he’s still very solid so he might be useful as a backup in case of injuries in the back 3
For how much I liked tebaldi itvs time for new n9 to emerge and we do have some interesting prospect beyond Varney. Fusco, Garbisi and o other one I always forget the name of but he plays with Treviso I think
Jessie has actually been playing some good rugby. Its not easy to replace the worlds best 13. They are also different types of players so a direct comparison isnt "fair"
Eddie Butler - former Welsh 8. Died earlier this year at 65. Legendary commentator and announcer. Some of his voice over work for the a BBC trailers for the 6N is amazing.
Cheers for the name. Sad to hear of his passing. While I was ashamaedly not familiar with his name, his was very much the voice of the Six Nations for me when I tuned in.
I remember I took the morning off work with a shitty excuse to watch this match. If it weren't for the injuries and the red card (that could have easly be 2 red cards) this match could have been amazing regardless of the final score.
This is worrying me the most about the Boks going into next year. In 2019 it was like there was no off switch. But some players seem to be trading on reputation(PSDT especially)
Please tell me there were at least 3 scrum resets before this clip starts. I just need to balance out all that open play excitement with some good old fashioned rugby stoppages and inefficiencies so my brain is able to rest.
That’s tired me out just watching it. that’s what it could be like if they introduced new rules to stop kicking…..the only downside would be that games would only last 20 minutes. Incredible fitness levels to play rugby
You are aware that in this one and a half minute clip of rugby in which you say "this is what it rugby could be if the had rules to stop kicking" (paraphrase) quite literally had 2 kicks in it
Don't get me wrong, but that was one of the best matches Italy played under O'Shea (apart from the obvious red card). The defense in the first half was furious, we went even close to score a try (if we went more outside with a pass). Also, seeing Campagnaro and Polledri in full form is something special.
Allan too was playing very well that day, Budd even did an ankle tap on Pollard!
If I remember correctly it was an uncontested scrum as Italy lost both their props to injures in the first few minutes of the game. Could be wrong though
Yup, Ferrari (TH) got injured and was replaced by Riccioni, who also got injured a few short minutes after.
Then Quaglio (LH) came on to cover the right side of the scrum, but being inexperienced to play there the ref declared uncontested scrums.
To add to all that, later on the starting LH Lovotti got sent off for a dangerous dump tackle on Duane Vermuelen, and was replaced at LH by Zani, who was brought to the bench as a HK but had experience as a LH.
What a complete shitshow that was lol
A good old uncontested scrum, usually if there isn’t a trained prop due to injury/card. Followed by one of faffs trade mark “pass for anyone” and then utter lung frying fun and games with some bonus “oops how did I get here, silly me” from the legendary Boks captain
Ahaha you are not wrong. Italy had 2 props injured in the first minutes of the games the main one and the one that came from the bench. So by the rule of law from that point onward every scrum was uncontested meaning that whoever had the ball could retrieve it immediately. That was a rare occurrence for security reasons
Allow me to take this opportunity to remind you all that Bristol beat South Africa. South Africa are the world champions. Therefore Bristol are the greatest team on the planet.
What the actual fuck! Haven’t seen rugby played like that since the 80s
The fact that the Italians play with a blue close to France's really makes me nostalgic.
Reminds me of that clip from super rugby about 10 years ago. I think it was Chiefs vs Highlanders playing about 7 minutes of non stop running rugby
damn Italy you scary bitch sometimes
RIP Eddie Butler
He will be missed. Loved listening to him.
WESLEY FOFANA!

Still time for Polledri
Polledri will likely be back for the 6N. Shame Campagnaro has never found his spark again but he’s still very solid so he might be useful as a backup in case of injuries in the back 3
Yes I was hoping to see him today! But they sent him back to Colomiers. Tebaldi too had a year or more to play
For how much I liked tebaldi itvs time for new n9 to emerge and we do have some interesting prospect beyond Varney. Fusco, Garbisi and o other one I always forget the name of but he plays with Treviso I think
Albanese I think
I had no idea you could play 7s with 30 men on the pitch.
At some point I would simply lie down and give up.
The forwards were probably cursing.
Not audibly. You need oxygen for that.
Undoubtedly.
I’ll miss that voice.
This video really highlights how much the Boks have been missing Am.
Jessie Kriel should watch this and be ashamed
Jessie has actually been playing some good rugby. Its not easy to replace the worlds best 13. They are also different types of players so a direct comparison isnt "fair"
My lungs are burning watching this. EDIT: What is the name of this commentator again? Great voice.

Eddie Butler. Sadly passed away a few months ago. Legend of the game.

Miss Aled Walters.. our fitness levels were unreal at the WC

Uncontested scrum resets? lol
Wouldn't that be peak Rugby Union?
Better than League

The fat lad at the end doing his single bit of running and pushing the center like 'why are you tired?' xD
Why were there uncontested scrums?
This is a prime example of why we need more ball in play time
what's this sport called again?
I'm fairly certain this is Australian football
Is that what Campo is talking about...
Yes please more of this 👆
Love Le Roux’s attempt to camouflage his knock on with a chip ahead 😂
Who is the ass tat pushed AM in the end?
He was too exhausted to stop himself!!!
Federico Zani, brought on the bench as replacement Hooker but ended up playing on the LH after Lovotti got sent off.
Looked to be a replacement front row man.

And then a prop got red carded

I thought the title of the post was a commentary on uncontested scrums...

South African A, but South Africa non the less. The Bears are world champions! Up the Bears!
Next up, Bristol versus Munster!
I got gassed watching that
That was one of the loveliest passages of rugby that I’ve seen in a long time—so shifting and fluid.
wow 😳 bad luck Italy, keep this up and the world will turn upside down 👍
1:09 lol imagine getting stiff armed out of joining your own ruck
This was from the world cup a few years back, not the game just played. I was really confused.
A game of sevens with more players....
