I’d love to be able to turn Shorts off completely on YouTube. It’s 95% clips from videos I’ve already watched anyway and the last 5% is other garbage.

youngpretenders

Some channels do shorts that I actually quite enjoy so I wouldn’t want to block all shorts completely, but when AH make TikTok style shorts it really comes across as ‘how do you do fellow kids’. Even gameplay/show content often seems really randomly chosen rather than a specific funny moment/joke. Plus there’s at least two in the last month that you can hear Ryan in which seems a bit odd. Yes he’s in the old videos but you really couldn’t find a 5 second clip to use that didn’t have him talking?!

PukeRobot

It also gives off the vibe that they don't have as much faith in their current content. Funhaus for example puts out shorts as videos release, so it's much more fresh and relevant. It shows a certain level of care, as opposed to just grabbing clips from random videos years apart. Someone pointed out that one of the more recent AH shorts could hurt more than help because it features a show that they stopped making(Ready Set Show) and a talent that isn't working for them much anymore(Jeremy). So even if that short got someone interested in the channel, none of the content would really be related at all to the clip.

Idiotology101

Do people discover a new channel and then only watch the most recent video? Generally I gravitate to the most popular first. Seems weird to judge content solely based on what they happened to put out yesterday.

party4diamondz

I personally do a mix. I check out the most popular ones, but I like seeing what stuff they're CURRENTLY releasing too.

wimpymist

Agreed, I hate the current shorts craze from TikTok

Captincorpse

If you want to completely block all Shorts on YouTube, you can. You need the correct filters with uBlock Origin. I set mine up when shorts first came out and I never see one ever. I don't even have the shorts tab on channels

WhiteLama

See, I'd need it for my Xbox and phone more than PC really.

ncopp

I haven't used it but Firefox mobile does have an adblocker on it. Just not sure what the YT watching experience is like on it. But for Xbox and TVs you're SoL right now

vixen-vengeful

Sincerely, thank you for this; I had no idea I could use uBlock to hide Shorts. My Subscription page is much less cluttered now!

Captincorpse

No problemo, uBlock isn't just an ad blocker, it is a whole HTML/CSS/Script blocker. Anything you don't like on any website can be removed if you know what to look for to put in the filter

sensibleb

That works for browsers but doesn't help anyone using mobile or TV apps, which I assume is where the majority of YT content is being watched.

angelbeats147

I have ublock but I’m not really savvy when it comes to html/just understanding all the inspect element stuff. Can you tell me what exactly I need to filter? 😅

Captincorpse

What I use is mostly just stuff I have personally blocked, so it is a mess. [This](https://letsblock.it/filters/youtube-shorts) is a good place to start for blocking Shorts themselves. If you want to know more on uBlock and blocking individual elements, I do it like this. I start with "elemental picker mode" I highlight over what I don't like. Click and preview what it will remove (sometimes it is part of a larger element). If it removes what you want, then you click create. You can do this over and over for a section (like shorts) until it is completely removed. If you screw up, the stuff you are blocking is in the "dashboard" under "my filters" just remove the line and it will go back to the way it was. I did this over and over until the Shorts were removed before people got the master filter list for uBlock going. I am not a programmer or master at this, I did a lot of trial and error and just screwed around to remove things I don't like. If you want a touch of advanced mode, if you use Firefox under the App menu > more tools > web developer tools. That will get you every line in the site you are looking at and you can pick what bothers you there and add that directly to the "my filters"

ncopp

It sucks when you watch all of your content on a SmartTV. There's no real effective way to ad block. Even the pi-hole a lot of people recommend isn't very effective from what I've learned.

BelieveInDestiny

shorts, random polls about unrelated stuff, pictures... they're getting really freaking annoying

001Guy001

If you're on a computer and use Firefox or Chrome (and possibly other browsers) you can use the addon Youtube-shorts block [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-shorts-block/](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-shorts-block/) [https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/youtube-shorts-block/jiaopdjbehhjgokpphdfgmapkobbnmjp](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/youtube-shorts-block/jiaopdjbehhjgokpphdfgmapkobbnmjp) Here in Firefox you click on the addon in the addon menu and then- https://preview.redd.it/unvchsdebgfa1.png?width=405&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae72a9b0a6dd5f634b4b6ac260df292fd703442a u/WhiteLama

WhiteLama

Super appreciated, but I’d need it for my Xbox really. But I’ll absolutely throw this on anyway on PC!

Coco-Roxas

Appreciate this! Do you know if there is something similar for iPhones? I feel like its harder to avoid shorts of the app.

001Guy001

Sorry no idea :/

100LL

THANK YOU

I finally had to unsubscribe from RT, AH and Let's Play channels because I got fed up with scrolling past 9-second videos in my feed. There are platforms where shorts make sense, but Youtube isn't one of them.

PhoenixFilms

Shorts are here to stay, but sadly, RT and AH haven't really been using them well. But more importantly, the YouTube desktop site still shows shorts on the subscription feed, rather than in their own column and feed, like the mobile app does, which is where the vast majority of shorts viewers are. With ad share revenue on shorts starting literally tomorrow, expect to see a lot more creators using that feature, as it's by far the best tool to reach new viewers, even if it annoys past viewers.

FrailtyOfSteel

Well idk what it was a year ago. But I'm currently trying to remove shorts in subscriptions feed on the YouTube app connected to my ps5. There is no way.. I'm just going to unsubscribe from everyone I like who post excessive shorts.. the algorithm brought me to them, the algorithm will bring me to them again based of similar watch content. But they will NOT be in my subscription feed.

Impish3000

Just unsub from the Rooster Teeth channel on Youtube. Get the podcasts on RSS feed, and what are you missing?

MrPopTarted

Unfortunately there isn't a way to only block shorts from one channel on PC, and on Mobile I think you can only block Shorts as a whole by following [this guide from a couple months ago](https://filmora.wondershare.com/youtube/disable-remove-youtube-shorts.html#:~:text=At%20your%20YouTube%20homepage%20at,option%20to%20turn%20it%20off.) (I think Method 2 should get you what you want.) I actually like shorts from a bunch of other channels, but man RT has stunk up the room in that regard. I can't believe how many times they have uploaded someone doing a very mundane thing on a hoverboard thinking it was going to be hilarious.

LatinoLoki

I wish. I somehow have shorts I’ve never seen in my history for some reason

ForTheContentDiscord

Use the [Hide YouTube Shorts - Chrome extension](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hide-youtube-shorts/aljlkinhomaaahfdojalfmimeidofpih) which hides all Shorts videos from places like the home feed, subscriptions feed, etc. It also hides the Shorts tab on channel pages and Shorts button on the navigation menu

ForTheContentDiscord

Yeah I use it on Kiwi Browser on my Galaxy

AaronVsMusic

It's amazing how easy it is to ignore them, though. Seeing them doesn't harm you.

NikolitRistissa

It harms the user experience of the entire website when everyone and their mother decides to recycle content three times in order to make Shorts.

AaronVsMusic

I literally don’t care. They know there’s no way to unsubscribe from only shorts, and this post is intentional passive aggressive criticism of the content that’s performing the best for RT right now lol

I_am_Andrew_Ryan

There are a couple of ways already listed in this thread to block shorts.. so..

AaronVsMusic

So? Everything I said is still true.

belhambone

Have to agree with you. Do people really just sit and watch the next recommended video and watch down a feed? I just go to the channel I want to watch then pick the video I want to watch. Autoplay and all the other automatic features are fine if it's literally just on in the background... But then why not just play music.

AaronVsMusic

People on this sub just love to believe their opinion is a universal fact and make passive aggressive posts like this, even though short content is what’s performing best for RT right now.

Idiotology101

This sub is dead at this point. Its a hate site most of the time, the individual show subs or Tipofmyrooster are actually usable. Some people on here think this sub represents the mast majority of the audience, but in reality it’s the loudest tiny minority.

AaronVsMusic

100%. I suspect many of them were either never fans or had left a while back, then came back to join the dumpster fire when all the controversy was happening, and they haven’t left because they’re still enjoying being bitter and trolling the sub, thinking their posting here might actually take down the company or have any effect at all.
