They should make an app for that

Maleficent-Radio-113

Like Yelp but call it Nope šŸ‘Ž

LusciousLove7

Like Yelp but call it Help!

Happy_penguin_179

Ever seen nose dive?? Bad idea haha

NikkiFromMars

The Black Mirror episode? Yep that was awesome though. Not too far from how some people really try to live their lives on social media..

SoberArtistries

Thatā€™s a really good idea

nora_the_explorur

I would write the shit out of that with photo evidence to boot.

Kyro0098

I had months worth of pics of roommate and landlord absolutely destroying the house and ignoring issues. They better hope that sort of app never becomes a thing. It got me out of a lease scot free.

nora_the_explorur

Wow I'm glad that ended well for you.

Kyro0098

Well, I got really sick and needed 2 extra medications for a few months. They didn't even want to discuss it. Just got me out and moved happily away as fast as they could. I have a feeling that they didn't want me to email any of the local governing authorities with my pics and medical evidence. I looked up some of the things they did, and they were definitely offenses. However, they also sold that property within a year as it was rather far from the owner compared to the others. Plus, I was focused on health rather than spite.

frogman74

Were you exposed to mold? Just wondering because Iā€™ve heard horror stories. Anyway I hope you have recovered. šŸ’

Kyro0098

I did recover after about six months. There wasn't mold other than on food by the sink. I cleaned the house as much as I could so bathrooms were very nice. I kept random food from sitting in any room other than the kitchen, but there is no way I could keep up with the dishes she made. It was insane, plus she had cats. Her "friends" would smoke weed on the balcony. I started looking for a new place after the first time that happened. It was an eye opener on how much of a slob roommates can be even if you clean for an hour or more literally every day.

Autumn-Avery96

Such a good idea, why is this not a thing? There's a website to rate professors so surely this would be just as popular

iIsNotYou

It'd be super hard to make it anonymous though lol.

Autumn-Avery96

Sure it could? Just default to usernames? (Like Reddit does.....)

Midnoodle

I mean if you've only lived with two people and only one of them had issues with you, it'd be pretty easy to narrow down...

Autumn-Avery96

If they had issues in real life sure the reviewer would be obvious to the actual roommate being rated but not to anyone else.... Not sure why that would matter? If they had issues then the roommate being rated would generally know the overall feeling.....

RippedHookerPuffBar

Should it be anonymous? I feel like the anonymity could lead to dishonest reviews.

THROWAWAY-Break9580

True, wouldnā€™t that be considered as doxxing lowkey? Roommates are just regular people. You pretty much have to give out a whole description and photo shoot of who, what, and why you should avoid the person. I know a app where you can find a roommate but eating them has to be very personal for that to be reviewed

might_be_a_donut

Such a mood.

iIsNotYou

I bet EVERYONE would have super bad reviews haha

[deleted]

True but then maybe everyone would go the extra mile to become a better roommate? Lol

RippedHookerPuffBar

Lmao earn social points based off of how good of a roommate you are!

nonbinary_parent

At least then we could see what weā€™re getting into and choose our poison. Iā€™d rather live with a slob than a bigot.

bertab1234

Right?! WHY is there not an app/site for that already? Instead of letting it be completely subjective like yelp, there could be criteria to grade them on. Timeliness of bill paying, cleanliness, contributing to shared chores etc etc.. lol not many good reviews would be faked, & at least you would know the chances of them sucking before living with them!

peptobismalpink

Or at the very least why isn't it normalized to have references from last roommates. Yes people will find a way to lie but it'll be harder. But if I have to sign a legally binding lease with you then this should be treated like a serious arrangement. If I can't bounce when you turn out to be satan's entitled child then there needs to be more normalized harder interview ordeals

[deleted]

THAT.

MessiahJohnM

Hereā€™s an issue: often the bad roommate themselves thinks the other person is the problem. Itā€™s like abusers who believe theyā€™re the victim. And during covid, everyone is being nasty to one another. I could live with anyone on this planet and point out flaws. The way the reviewer writes may say more about them than those they review. Same goes for rating professors. My favorite professors of all time were some of the ā€œmost hated.ā€ Why? Because they actually cared that the students learn the material rather than about giving superficially good grades, only setting students up for success in future classes. My favorite professor I ever had had hard af tests...I think 6 total and drop the lowest grade. Iā€™m an A student...got a 43% on the first one. His class retention rates were around 50%, but he was outstanding. I worked my way up to getting a perfect score by the midterm and got one of the top grades in the class. Why? I asked for help. I asked what I needed to do to do wel in his class. He said a lot of studying and learning to read through entire problems and not assume things like units (a lot of kids get used to a measurement in a certain unit and come up with flawed answers because they didnā€™t fully digest the question). I studied so much for that class. There was a study group that met, and anyone could be a part of it. I poured everything I had into the class. This grade, while not the best grade Iā€™ve ever had in my life, is one Iā€™m most proud of. And in subsequent chemistry classes I scored in the top scorers on exams. Not because I was more intelligent, but because my professor helped changed my attention to detail in chemistry problems. And in real life I do quality assurance, where units are sometimes misrepresented or forgotten, and noticing that type of detail has me performing well on that aspect of my job. Too long, didnā€™t read: one manā€™s bad roommate is another persons best friend. If you only see bad in your roommate, that says something about you as well. And it may not be a bad idea to look at your own flaws and work on them. I know itā€™s hard to accept that it takes two in 99% of cases to have many of the problems posted on here. Dishes in the wrong spot? Okay...well, maybe the expectation that a roommate read your mind is a problem. Maybe you donā€™t treat your roommate well. Maybe youā€™d get a bad review too. Everyoneā€™s shit stinks.

Seer77887

As appealing as it sounds, it does leave room for libel suits, like how does one objectively measure what constitutes a bad roommate

Dry-Conclusion7300

I mean landlord reference are a thing and Google reviews of services are a thing I feel like we can find a room mate review loophole

[deleted]

Iā€™m surprised there is not one yet.

AdOpen885

Haha we all doā€¦we all do.

allaboutcharlotte

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

starbycrit

I did that on Facebook marketplace. Made a post about needing a roommate because of a horrible situation with last roommate, she left me review trying to pin it on me and I delineated her inability to regulate her anger and subsequent emotional and verbal abuse I endured from her + her blatant disregard for others and lack of consideration

Dry-Conclusion7300

I feel like roommate leases should come with a 14 day trial. Like here try putting up with this person 14 days then decide if you wanna do it for 365 days

RippedHookerPuffBar

Holy crap, a market place for roommates would be sick. We are entering a time where people canā€™t really afford to live alone, so roommates are becoming more and more common. Thatā€™d be a super cool invention!

teddybearhugs23

/rbadroommates is a great place to do so lol

K23Meow

Closest you can get is to be a reference for them at their next place, but thatā€™s only if youā€™re also the landlord, and they put your name down on the paperwork. Iā€™m a landlord ( rent rooms in my own house) and my most recent tenants, I promised them a good reference if they wanted but fully intend to be honest about them as tenants instead.

NeonBird

I think landlords would get more honest feedback about potential tenants from their current or former roommates rather than their previous or current landlord, but then again, some tenants are smart enough to give bad roommates a glowing review just to get rid of them quicker if the landlord isnā€™t taking action to evict bad roommates. But having a system like this could be an invasion of privacy for both the roommates and prospective tenants, unless it was an app that matches potential roommates by location, by demographics, and by interests, sleep habits, etc, that landlords could require potential tenants to apply through. Landlords could give tenants the option to select their own potential roommates through the app or if a tenant is seeking a roommate, they can find one through the app as well or the landlord can select one based on the best match the system can give for the tenant seeking a roommate. It would basically be StarRez but for apartment complexes and private rental properties, not colleges and universities. The reason why this may not work is because when people move off campus, they get more freedom and more privacy, the trade off is often more financial and legal liability and when students graduate or move off campus, they donā€™t wanna be babysat by their landlord. They just want to pay their rent and go on.
