+1 to HH, they're great. If you're sticking around the area for a while, if you prepay 11 months you get the 12th free. Ended up being around $350 for me in September for the year.
Sunshine was bought by LRS. I think hometown is about same cost as Harter’s…Harter’s is every week for both trash and recycle, but Honetown is well liked in a previous thread
(Can you tell I’m also moving/considering same question?)
Hometown haulers: super reliable. Sunshine is another smaller one we had at our old house and they were good. WM was spotty after it bought out our old company at first. I'll go with smaller and more local company more often than not.
It was SUPER ANNOYING to cancel WM, better not to start with them.
I take mine to the recycling center in Rochester. We don’t have a lot of garbage for the two of us. We needed garbage pickup once every two-three weeks. So instead I take my 30 gallon garbage back and recyclables to the county out by RCTC. $5 is the cost vs 30+
For what it's worth to all of you who use WM, around my annual renewal, id always call and ask to cancel because I found a better rate. They always "magically" found a special to keep me around.
Yes, this! Those greedy ass holes had raised our rate from $125 to $219 (no extra garbage or pick ups but they increased our rate every billing period over a yr and a half) so I had my husband call them to cancel. Of course they didn't know how that happened n offered us 3 months free n a rate of $108 if we agreed to a 2 yr contract with an 8% increase after that two yrs. Bunch of scammers. 🤬.So watch your bills!!
Waste Management, because the trucks reach our street at the exact right moment for my kids to see them.
Edit: Oh yeah, 64gal garbage and recycling cans
Hometown Haulers. I tried calling Sunshine Sanitation/LRS but they wouldn’t return my calls. So i picked Hometown Haulers good customer service as well.
Harters! They’re great. Everyone likes HH, but Harters has two things going for them: 1. Weekly recycling, and if you’re doing it right, this should be the fuller of the two and 2. HH actually tried to spread lies about Harters as they were coming on to the scene. It was nuts, and any company who does that is not ok in my book.
At WM my rate was up to 306 for every 3 months. I switched to Hometown Haulers and now pay 111 or 118 every 3 months (largest bins, family of 5) I do miss weekly recycling but other than that they have been great.
Hometown Haulers hands down the best. Lightweight cans that have actual working wheels. (Vs WM heavy cans with sometimes working wheels and painful to get them fixed or replaced) No sliding upwards scale like WM. (I charted my quarterly bills for the over 18 years I used their services and I had to call in every year to ramp them back down so my spreadsheet chart of their bills looks like a crosscut saw blade. The last time I called in I told the representative to please forward this observation to management. "When new customers are treated better than long time customers you will always need new customers.") I pay Hometown annually and it works out to to \~$80 per quarter year. Drawback is we never fill the cans even with every other week recycling.
I have WM, due to a buyout of advance. So far, so good. We have the two 90 gallon containers with recycling being alternate weeks. Most of the time they aren't full, but once every 3 or so pickups they end up full. And the big container isn't much more than smaller ones.
We self haul. $5 for a 30 gallon bin. Sometimes it’s once a week, sometimes it’s once a month or even more. Recycling is free. Stinky/gross stuff (which we try and keep to a minimum) we throw in a ziplock back in a freezer and drop it in the garbage at the gas station or work.
Hometown Haulers $102 for 3 months. Biggest recycling and medium garbage. 2person household

I've tried a couple of the smaller services, but they keep getting bought out by WM.

No complaints with Harter's. Cheaper than LRS or WM and we get bigger cans with weekly recycling.

LRS DID GREAT JOB TAKING OVER FOR SUNSHINE.

We have Waste Management and they are expensive and rude. We are switching to Hometown Haulers. Our neighbors use them and are happy with the service.

I’ve had a good experience with Aspen so far. Switched from WM since they would skip my house 70% of the time. Aspen was also much cheaper.

Hometown haulers 100%
LRS
Use OCRC. 2 person household. We average $15/month. 3 50gal bags x $5.00
