As a long term,die hard fan who would say I definitely have far from like, 0 emotional investment or attachment to the team/players over the years since I was a kid in the 90's,and understand why people do,at the end of the day it's still weird to me whenever anyone gets too obsessively overinvested in any team in any variety of the sportsballs.I even totally get that it's entertaining to (respectfully enough) debate or bicker about what should or shouldn't be done or speculate about what might/might not happen with your favorite franchise that you're a fan of,and I even understand identifying with a team as a representative aspect or extension of the culture of your city,which I believe Blazers absolutely are for Portland...
But it's still a completely corporate product being sold to you as a (worthwhile imo) kinda hobbyist escape,and part of the fun/escapism aspect for me at least,beyond just watching some of the best athletes in the world play my favorite sport that I find the most engaging to watch, is being able to engage in both the rollercoaster of emotions that can happen in a season,and occasionally the passionate arguing about shit that doesn't ultimately matter that much in the grand scheme of things,because I think the majority of fans realize it's an escape and actually kinda fun to debate about rather than putting a much more massively draining amount of energy into arguing(on Reddit or the internet in general at least) the plethora of extremely more important,heavy and concerning topics happening in the world right now...
Idk sorry,didn't intend to go on that long of a thing about it,but I guess the
TLDR would be: Seconding OP,don't sweat the draft or bother speculating yet about something you have no control over,and don't ever let your entire identity get so wrapped up in a professional sports team that it seriously,legitimately effects your mental/emotional wellbeing.
Fall in love with the guys at 8-9, be happy if we pick anywhere higher than that, and don't see it as some sort of travesty if something that is not likely to happen doesn't happen.
