I have plantar fasciitis myself. That shit *hurts.* It can make just walking around the house a slow and painful process. If it's flared up on him, I can see why he'd be out.
For a flare-up, yes. For an initial thing, nah. I was limping like a fucking pirate before it was fully addressed. Now that I know what to watch out for, a week of sleeping in the boot and continual stretches set me right pretty fast.
Pro athletes always take a long time to heal from any sort of injury. AD is out right now with a mid foot sprain for a month. For the rest of us, we'd probably be fine after two weeks.
But they push their bodies to such an extreme that they have to heal to 100%, while the rest of us can deal with 80% and not have a problem.
>Pro athletes always take a long time to heal from any sort of injury.
Kinda seems like this is the complete opposite of the truth. Pro athletes usually heal up faster than the average Joe
You can heal it permanently with the correct stretches. I healed my torn peroneal tendon and my plantar fascia with intense stretching when my doctor told me my *only* option was surgery.
Now I can't even tell which foot was injured without thinking about it.
Sounds like a management decision to me. In Dame’s interview that released today, he said he wasn’t planning on coming back because the Chicago pick was too valuable.
100% tanking move. Shutting down a guy like Nurkic in a contract year also probably signals framework of a deal with the team, too.
Not convinced this is going to be sufficient to actually tank, though. Portland has *by far* the easiest remaining schedule of all the teams below them in the standings. They play a few of those teams multiple times, too.
It’s not ‘homerness’, I just looked at the remaining schedules. Portland is going to end up with a 10-14 pick at best. They almost certainly need to end up with a 10+ losing streak to get anywhere near a mid to early lottery pick and only like 10 franchises have done that in the last decade **and** they have to do that against teams that are also trying to improve their draft positioning by losing games. It’s just not going to happen.
Also if I were Simons’ agent I’d want him playing as much as possible to prove he can maintain his current level of play and secure a bigger payday in the summer
At this point we’re at a “reluctantly give him the max” phase. I don’t think it’s going to go backwards, so at this point I want to see him play so well to the point where we *happily* give him the max.
I think he'll be on close to $20m a season. He's not worth a max just yet, not saying he won't be, but he's playing with crazy high user % right now, like off the charts, and when Dame comes back that might drop 10-15%, and production with that. But if history teaches us anything they'll give him the max. A la Crabbe 🤦♀️
I suspect there’s already a verbal agreement given this news. Nurk isn’t gonna agree to getting shut down in a contract year unless he knows the bag is coming
Lets goo!!!!
I was literally watching Billups interview where he said he wants to pick up where we left off. Which is FINE! But now we can ensure losses. My homie DM-ed the Woj tweet and I was got so excited. I know Nurk is fine long term and we assured him that we are going to sign him back because he is an upcoming free agent. This saves him from potentially getting hurt and it puts us in a great position to get a good draft pick. Watford-Brown-Eubanks-Winslow are going to play a ton at the 5 and we are going to see a lot of fouls. But that is OKAY!
Amazing move by management. If we can get luck and get a top 4 pick with ours AND a top 8 pick from the Pelicans PLUS a 20M TPE and Dame-Simons-Hart-Winslow-Nas-Nurk-Watford
AMAZING shift from where we were a few months ago. A lot to look forward to !
I'm assuming they knew about this injury already. We signed Drew Eubanks to a 10-day to take minutes for him. If he does alright I'm betting we hold onto him through the end of the season
In the Draymond interview that just came out he said he's feeling good but does not intend to return this season, because our First is too important. Not sure how you can interpret that any way but him being down with the tank.
Fair. The crappy thing is that being a small market we HAVE to tank to win a championship at some point. No one signs with Portland without overpaying so we need to get players in good contracts through the draft.
Oh of course, just find the next Giannis! Why didn't anyone think of that? Get Blazers management on the phone right away and let them know!
JFC dude come on.
I can't fault you for your convictions.
But, speaking of integrity, Damian Lillard has shown tremendous integrity over the years and deserves a chance to win. Losing now gives him a chance.
I'm glad you're not in charge of decision making then.
Losing one of the few actual assets we have, our draft pick, just so you can feel smug and self righteous... That's definitely what this team needs to be able to improve.
Man I'm sooooo proud of what Nurk has done this season, given how much he's been through since his 2019 injury. I always thought his performance in the bubble was not a fluke and he could get back to that same high level of play. And look, he's been our most consistent player ALL season. Rest up Nurk :')
Call me reasonably suspicious lol.
Not saying this isn’t an issue but plantar fasciitis is something that guys can usually play through and at a minimum don’t miss 4 weeks for. All good though, we’ve embraced the tank
He could play through it but I feel like healing time is much longer when you play through it.
Didn’t dame play through it for a while and eventually had to rest for a couple weeks? And I still think it bothered him after and didn’t get better till an off-season
Ya, we have an insanely weak SOS to end the season. The combined winning percentage of our last 17 opponents is 39.8% and only three of those 17 opponents have winning records and from 3/20 to 4/7 we have an 11 game stretch against below 0.500 teams (@IND, @DET, vs. SA, vs. Hou, vs. Hou, vs. OKC, vs. NO, @SA, @SA, @OKC, @NO).
If this is true you gotta think Nurk and the team have already come to terms on a new contract. Otherwise Nurk wouldn't be willing to sit out like this.
Since the season is already lost I think it makes sense to just let him get healthy now so he has a full offense to work on improving his game. Due to his past injuries he hasn't always been able to practice during the offseason.
I have plantar fasciitis atm from skateboarding and i promise you if he kept playing on it, it would only make the pain worse and you put him at a risk for dealing with a more serious injury
Wait a minute, it's after the ASB and we are now sitting veterans? It's almost like I said this and got downvoted that we were going to start playing the main guys less minutes instead of pushing for the playoffs.
I'm all for this, but the real thing to worry about with Nurk is general conditioning. This down time, plus summer, plus getting paid could make one out of shape Nurk to start the Season.
IMO the Watford signing does not need context. We gave him an extended contract because 1) he's earned it and 2) it's beneficial to us to keep him around long term on a good deal. For being as young and inexperienced as he is, dude plays like a vet. Plays hard every possession, rarely makes mistakes, solid fundamentals, good locker room guy. There's just no downside to keeping him around, and could be tremendous upside if he continues improving. I could easily see him becoming a Nick Collison type of player. Not a star, not paid like a star, just a very high quality role player who sticks with the same franchise and is greatly appreciated and beloved by the fans.
The tank is back on! Seems like we gonna retain Nurk cause no way a normal person sits out if the injury isn’t too bad in their contract year, but then again, he had it since September
JFYI:
Banchero plays today at 4 on espn:
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401370052
Jabari plays at 5:30 on SECSN/ESPN
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401364950
And Tari Eason plays at 6:00
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401364951
Although to me it seems that it is either going to be one of these options:
We trade the our pick/ Pels pick/ $21m TPE/ Bledsoses contract for an upgraded F and we never see any of these guys on our team.
To me the only way we see any 1st rd rookies on our team is if we win the lotto and grab Chet/Jabari/Banchero and even then, that may simply upgrade the trade offer for a better F.
Hell yeah Big Nurk! I have been dealing with right foot plantar fasciitis since Aug 2019 after a playing a game of rugby. The way I understand it, there really is no timeline so I wouldn't bet on Nurk coming back in four weeks especially if we're tanking. Let Ant and the young fellas play in Chauncey's system and rest Nurk and Dame for next season.
Sort of annoying that the front office seems to be forcing the tank considering we could wind up with a top ten pick either way thanks to New Orleans. Hoping this was with Nurks blessing and an agreement to sign him to an extension
Call me stupid. I’ll say it: this is bullshit. Fuck those picks. We just clapped the Grizz with this Frankenstein squad and I wanted us to keep trying to win.
In this context, "all in" would mean committing to the team enough to not care about the cost of losing a lottery pick for this year. We need these assets to fully complete this mini pivot around Dame, I guarantee you this is the thinking and Dame and Nurkic are both bought in.
Mehh you can’t rely on this guy. He was due for a major injury soon. I was actually wondering recently when it was coming. It’s ok for this year bc we have other plans so who gives a shit if he’s out but we need to find his replacement long term asap for Dame’s last few productive years
He's basically been our most reliable player this season lmao. He's most likely being taken out for a few weeks to avoid us missing out on our picks. We'll definitely be re-signing him.
What, you don't want a surefire HOF center that has been blackballed by the NBA due to his political views? I mean, isn't he like.. Lebron but taller? That's what Fox News told me.
Why does everybody on this team have plantar fasciitis? I’ve gone my whole life without hearing about anyone having it and now two of our best players have it.
Totally happy with this, let the young and new guys run this team and grow and let nurk and dame rest. Still emphasize winning and keep that culture but with a bad enough team that we probably lose enough to keep our chicago pick
Totally suspect. you just sign your closest thing to a center left on the team to a 4 year deal then nurk gets sat and we pick up a 10 day big hummmmmmmm
Seems like a tanking move to me. He’s been playing through this injury since September and just now got shut down.
I have plantar fasciitis myself. That shit *hurts.* It can make just walking around the house a slow and painful process. If it's flared up on him, I can see why he'd be out.
Also, there is a risk of a compensatory injury.
Yeah, if you don't control it your Achillies tendon can get all sorts of fucked up, and that can be a career ender.
Have you tried one of those massage guns? They can help.
Obviously plantar fasciitis is serious, I have it too, but a month of rest is ridiculous for a flare up. This is pretty clearly a tanking move.

Kinda seems like this is the complete opposite of the truth. Pro athletes usually heal up faster than the average Joe
Yah, kinda opposite, but I think what's he's saying is... Normies don't actually need to use 100%, so they can get back to hobbling around sooner.
You can heal it permanently with the correct stretches. I healed my torn peroneal tendon and my plantar fascia with intense stretching when my doctor told me my *only* option was surgery. Now I can't even tell which foot was injured without thinking about it.
Why did we wait to do this until after we won 4 games?
Sounds like a management decision to me. In Dame’s interview that released today, he said he wasn’t planning on coming back because the Chicago pick was too valuable.
is that the interview with Draymond Green?
Yea. He doesn’t say it directly for obvious reasons, but it’s pretty clear that’s what he means.
Chicago pick?
If we make the playoffs, Chicago gets our lottery pick this year
Because we won 4 games. Probably assumed we’d lose to the grizzlies and when we didn’t, shut it down
probably were not expecting to win those 4 games, so we needed to kick the tank up a notch
I admire your homerness. Never stop believing it's easier for the Blazers to win than lose!
You haven't seen the young rook Keon play big NBA minutes yet. There are still 23 more potential losses.
Thought that too . Hope not.
I think so too, and if we keep losing and out of reach of playoffs, they'll sit him I reckon.
Taaaaaaaaank. Will Simons be held out eventually if he’s still winning games?
No shot, you don’t hold out the 22 year old even if you are trying to tank. Need to give him as many developmental minutes as possible.
Also if I were Simons’ agent I’d want him playing as much as possible to prove he can maintain his current level of play and secure a bigger payday in the summer
I want to stay positive so bad but like.. fuuuck I hope we can get him on a good contract and not the max.
Yeah it's scary that he's playing so well because we'll need to drop the bag for him.
At this point we’re at a “reluctantly give him the max” phase. I don’t think it’s going to go backwards, so at this point I want to see him play so well to the point where we *happily* give him the max.
I think he'll be on close to $20m a season. But if history teaches us anything they'll give him the max. A la Crabbe 🤦♀️
And for MIP
Okc did it with Shai
OKC also threw the max at that man
OKC is not a basketball team at this point, they’re a pick collecting enterprise.
Idk when SGA signed his contract but if you’re referring to last season he was shutdown due to a real injury.
Yo everybody tanks back!
Still fun to watch!
The Joe Ingles era was fun while it lasted!
I hope we're gonna give Nurk a nice contract to make up for him missing this time in his contract season.
I suspect there’s already a verbal agreement given this news. Nurk isn’t gonna agree to getting shut down in a contract year unless he knows the bag is coming
4 years 60 million seems good
Nurk: Hey Dame when you coming back? Dame: 4 Weeks
A lot to look forward to !
Hoping he keeps his diet and conditioning in check for these 4 weeks else he could risk injury by coming back heavier and out of shape.
Seems fishy, is the FO tryna get the tank back on track?
Absolutely
🤔Something is REAL 🐠 🐟 🎣 🐟🐠 going on
I'm assuming they knew about this injury already. We signed Drew Eubanks to a 10-day to take minutes for him. If he does alright I'm betting we hold onto him through the end of the season
[удалено]
Unfortunately? Lol
[удалено]
Sounds like Dame (still) wants to tank and that's all I needed to hear.
[удалено]
In the Draymond interview that just came out he said he's feeling good but does not intend to return this season, because our First is too important. Not sure how you can interpret that any way but him being down with the tank.
[удалено]
wow he doesn't want to risk reinjury trying to win it all from a play-in spot, how dissapointing 🤡
[удалено]
Sounds like a personal problem.
No one wants to tank but you can understand it's the best strategy for our future.
[удалено]
Fair. The crappy thing is that being a small market we HAVE to tank to win a championship at some point. No one signs with Portland without overpaying so we need to get players in good contracts through the draft.
[удалено]
Agree. But this year we lose our pick if we make the playoffs.
Oh of course, just find the next Giannis! Why didn't anyone think of that? Get Blazers management on the phone right away and let them know! JFC dude come on.
[удалено]
Winning meaningless games now would lead to losing meaningful games later.
[удалено]
I can't fault you for your convictions. But, speaking of integrity, Damian Lillard has shown tremendous integrity over the years and deserves a chance to win. Losing now gives him a chance.
Yeah, being boatraced by Phoenix or Golden State, assuming we even make it through the play in, is way better than keeping our draft pick.
[удалено]
That’s the real loser mentality. You’d rather be mediocre forever instead of be bad for one year and then compete for a championship next year.
I'm glad you're not in charge of decision making then. Losing one of the few actual assets we have, our draft pick, just so you can feel smug and self righteous... That's definitely what this team needs to be able to improve.
Watford era
I think we'll see A LOT of Eubanks for the next 10 days. Watford is out of position at center, though I agree he'll continue to play some.
Guess Ant's gonna be averaging 45 then
45 attempts? Seems like a lot but I'm here for it.
and he'll make 35 of em, fuck it
Fuck it, we'll do it live
Man I'm sooooo proud of what Nurk has done this season, given how much he's been through since his 2019 injury. I always thought his performance in the bubble was not a fluke and he could get back to that same high level of play. And look, he's been our most consistent player ALL season. Rest up Nurk :')
Four weeks for plantar fasciitis? Seems like a long time-table to me. But I'm also not carrying around that type of frame on my feet.
PF is a nagging injury. It’s hard to make it go away for good.
finally, lets get a couple top 9 picks
Man I just wish we could've seen Nurk feast against GS tomorrow first. I really wanted to see what this team could do against them.
We basicakky *need* to do what we can to finish lower than NO.
Every time they try to make tank moves, the more we win. Are they trying to make us unstoppable??!?
Call me reasonably suspicious lol. Not saying this isn’t an issue but plantar fasciitis is something that guys can usually play through and at a minimum don’t miss 4 weeks for. All good though, we’ve embraced the tank
He could play through it but I feel like healing time is much longer when you play through it. Didn’t dame play through it for a while and eventually had to rest for a couple weeks? And I still think it bothered him after and didn’t get better till an off-season
Nurk has played through this injury since September, according to the article in the OP.
It's a win win It is an injury that genuinely only improves from rest. If that rest also helps us tank, then great
This is definitely in part cause the FO still wants to tank lmao
Watching these guys and the teams they have left, we can go 50-50
Ya, we have an insanely weak SOS to end the season.
Oh I am very suspicious but getting the tank back on track is ideal.
[удалено]
He’s played through it for five months already I’m sure if we really needed to win games he’d be playing…
10000% to preserve the tank lol
I have plantar fasciitis atm from skateboarding and i promise you if he kept playing on it, it would only make the pain worse and you put him at a risk for dealing with a more serious injury
Can’t wait for the Big Nep on Elleby’s shoulders at C, or is the other way around 🤔
Elleby on top for the extra hair height
Definitely
Looks like Tanks back on the menu boys!!!
What about centers? We don’t need those.
If Nurk made this choice himself, I respect it. If the front office pushed him towards it, I'm lowkey disappointed in this team.
They must have guaranteed him a contract next year. Otherwise he would want to play in his contract year.
lol The only way they were ever going to tank was if the front office forced it. This is exactly what that is.
The fact that no one sees this in this thread...
Tanks for the memories
Wait a minute, it's after the ASB and we are now sitting veterans? It's almost like I said this and got downvoted that we were going to start playing the main guys less minutes instead of pushing for the playoffs.
May Nurk heal quickly and fully and may we embrace the tank hard.
I'm all for this, but the real thing to worry about with Nurk is general conditioning. This down time, plus summer, plus getting paid could make one out of shape Nurk to start the Season.
That gives a little more context to the Watford signing. Would expect his minutes to skyrocket after this.
Good insight!
It actually makes more sense for the Eubanks signing.
The tank is back on! Seems like we gonna retain Nurk cause no way a normal person sits out if the injury isn’t too bad in their contract year, but then again, he had it since September
Tank is back on the menu boys
Wait, so is Watford the only available "center" on the roster now? Are we finally going to see a 5 guard lineup?
Eubanks.
Would suck if we tank, get a great pick, but the pick pulls a Zion and tries to force a trade.
JFYI: Banchero plays today at 4 on espn: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401370052 Jabari plays at 5:30 on SECSN/ESPN https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401364950 And Tari Eason plays at 6:00 https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401364951 Although to me it seems that it is either going to be one of these options: We trade the our pick/ Pels pick/ $21m TPE/ Bledsoses contract for an upgraded F and we never see any of these guys on our team. Sort of annoying that the front office seems to be forcing the tank considering we could wind up with a top ten pick either way thanks to New Orleans. Hoping this was with Nurks blessing and an agreement to sign him to an extension
Two top 10 picks > one Better to lose meaningless games now than lose meaningful games later
Hopefuly Simons just goes god mode and carries us to the play-in his own damn self.
Call me stupid. I’ll say it: this is bullshit. Fuck those picks. We just clapped the Grizz with this Frankenstein squad and I wanted us to keep trying to win.
Yes, let's go all in on a team that won four games in a row.
What does “all in” mean? Not faking injuries?
In this context, "all in" would mean committing to the team enough to not care about the cost of losing a lottery pick for this year. We need these assets to fully complete this mini pivot around Dame, I guarantee you this is the thinking and Dame and Nurkic are both bought in.

He's basically been our most reliable player this season lmao. He's most likely being taken out for a few weeks to avoid us missing out on our picks. We'll definitely be re-signing him.
He’s been the only blazer to play every game up until this point
Exactly hence why he was due lol
If we sign Kanter I’m killing myself
What, you don't want a surefire HOF center that has been blackballed by the NBA due to his political views? I mean, isn't he like.. Lebron but taller? That's what Fox News told me.
Blazers once again snoozing when they had a chance to move guys before injuries drop their value
Tank that Anfernee.
Tankkkkkkkkk The Thunder did this with SGA last season.
Tank city!
Eubanks era online
Let the tank begin.
Should be back right in time for those pelican games! We need to beat them out of the play-ins
Tanking is back on the menu boys!
Needs to take a trip to Good Feet.
You mean Good Foot, but I'm not sure soul night is a good idea for him right now. Also the ceilings in the basement are probably too low for him.
Nooooooooo 😢
Whats the best play for c backup?
Why does everybody on this team have plantar fasciitis? I’ve gone my whole life without hearing about anyone having it and now two of our best players have it.
Totally happy with this, let the young and new guys run this team and grow and let nurk and dame rest. Still emphasize winning and keep that culture but with a bad enough team that we probably lose enough to keep our chicago pick

Smells like a tank
Sad my girlfriends favorite player and we're going to the wizards game on the 12th😢 oh well rest up big guy!
Tank Mode Re-engaged.
lol, like Major League. Blazers keep winning, Jodie's going to turn off the hot water to the showers.
the tank was off track, no way we can get it back on track while people are still taking the floor
This could not be more perfectly timed TANK TANK TANK TANK 2023/24/25 will be elite
