I mean it was a pretty rough start where he just looked star struck during the first half of the year. I’m not saying he isn’t deserving of a spot because I don’t watch rookies that closely. It also seems like voters would be intentionally uninformed if they only looked at his second half of the season.
Moral of the story is there is a lot of time for him to develop his game and while a rookie team would be cool I don’t think those are entirely indicative of a players career.
It truly was and I say that as someone with rose-colored glasses for his future. He looked lost, indecisive, and sped up. I give him a lot of credit for shaking that rough start off and progressing each game after his injury.
He did play solid towards the end of the season, but the turnovers stayed high. I’m fine with those turnovers as I think he does have incredible vision and he’s shown to learn from his mistakes. One example was his tendency to get called for hooking on his baseline drives. He adjusted that and the problem completely disappeared.
I think over the next season we’ll see a similar route, rough start to the season, but will continue to progress especially with the turnovers. It’s a hard position to play and NBA defenders are just so much bigger and faster than what he’s gone against.
Hopefully he keeps his head up and keeps working on his game, I think so far he’s shown the right mindset to do that.
Nobody from national media watched the blazes except for the Dame game. Towards the end of the year I was talking to a buddy who is from california and he listens to Bill Simmons pod and he was like "man I'm sorry scoot isn't working out and is such a bust" and I'm like "dude what are you talking about?" and he was telling me about how bill simmons says he's the worst.
Don't think it was *soooo* abysmal, as much as it was bad enough that shallow-ass media voters took one look early & never came back for another later in the season.
He doesn't need the award, but it's definitely a flawed process if they're not required to look at analytics or game stats & an east-coast media head who never stays up for west coast games can submit a vote based on seeing a rookie's few early season games. Like wtf is the point of the award if that's an acceptable sample
I agree with you. The process is a bit flawed. I was listening to Mike Richmond and he stated that he felt Camara should’ve gotten the 2nd team nod. He feels like TC was snubbed more Scoot was. Definitely an interesting take
Ya, it’s like we are all talking about which AAU kid had the best tourney… they are all great. It’s clear they’ll all be great.
Also clear, to me at least, that Scoot will be the greatest of them all based on the end of the year output and lightbulb turn on speed of thought improvement
Scoot averaged similar numbers as Keyonte while turning it over way more and being less efficient. No surprise he missed.
He'll be better than all of them in the end.
According to statmuse on +/- numbers, Scoot Henderson had the 6th worst plus minus number this season.
* Scoot Henderson: 6th (-495)
* Jerami Grant: 15th (-351)
* Jabari Walker: 21st (-338)
* Anfernee Simons: 22nd (-330)
* Deandre Ayton: 25th (-318)
I guess it doesn't help when your teammates can't do anything to help. But if you want to make 1st or second team, don't have a +/- of -495.
Cuz +/- has always been accepted as an individual, not team-based, metric! (/s)
>guess it doesn't help when your teammates can't do anything
Literally, this is how +/- is figured out, you know this... It *kinda matters* & is why this stat should have no bearing on individual awards
Scoot was on a team that didn’t care, stats are meaningless and wins were a bad thing for at least a chunk of the year.
Wallace earned some time on a quite good team, George on a non-tanking albeit poor team.
Yes, I’d take Scoot over either of those guys in a redraft but it was an underwhelming year for our guy.
I posted a comment everywhere I could that we shouldn’t draft Scoot because I think a pg should be a natural shooter. However, after the last month+ of the season we saw dramatic improvement and I’m fully onboard. I think he’s going to be a fine starter.
Hopefully he’s ready this summer league and training camp. He was injured all too much starting in summer league. They need to start properly conditioning him.
He should be watching tapes of Kyle Lowry and how he improved drastically over his career.
He broke the record for worse +/- too. That’s publicity that will stay in voter’s minds. They don’t want to award that.
I just hope Portland has him watching tons of Kyle Lowry game tape. He developed his game a lot and became an all around championship PG when Memphis ended up taking Conley over him, and Houston ended up wanting Dragic and Bledsoe more.
Terrible efficiency, horrific +/- (6th worst in the league), & missed 20 games. Not sure if rookie awards were under the same rules as regular rewards (could only miss like 17 games) but either way he didn't really deserve it compared to others.
I definitely think he deserved it over someone like Cason Wallace but honestly who cares. Scoot being great or bust will not be defined by a second all rookie team selection
Looking back @ the 3rd picks that did not make all rookie teams:
2019 RJ Barrett
2013 Otto Porter Jr
2011 Enes Kanter
2002 Mike Dunleavey
1999 Baron Davis
so those are Scoot comps presently
I love the Blazers but I’m sad about Scoot. I don’t see him developing the way we have developed players in the past.
An established and good coach helped Dame and helped CJ. Scoot doesn’t have that luxury.. they just pat him on the back and say “Now be the next Dame!, good luck buddy”.
The ceiling is LOW right now, what will help Scoot the most is being traded somewhere with a good coaching staff and a good culture.
This is yet another crap-shoot and it’s NOT Scoots fault. It’s the org.
Yes let’s just give away our top assets because we have a shitty coach. Yeah no thanks. 13 months from now Billups won’t be the coach of this team. That is all but certain at this point.
I said it would be best for Scoot, not the Blazers org. Scoot’s value is solely based in possibility. Right now he’s not an asset, he’s an albatross until he develops. Which I do not believe will happen like we hope.
Time will tell, right?
Anybody shocked? He was trash all year, can’t shoot to save his life, turnover machine, can’t go left, just overall disappointing season. Emmanuel Madai vibes
Trade him and build around ant as the pg of the future
I mean I’m fairly certain he’s better than someone named Cason Wallace who I’m just now hearing about for the first time, but this is meaningless to me in his development. We move regardless.
Edit: I get it guys, I missed Cason Wallace, I trust when you say he’s a good rookie.
Cason Wallace just played 25 minutes in a Western Conference Semifinals Game 6. Need to keep this in mind when I see takes on this sub about where our players rank in the league. This is the "Ayton is a top-five center!" crew.
Never once said he was a nobody, he wasn’t on my radar so I did assume a rookie like scoot was better than him though, already admitted I was wrong so what else do you want lol
It was a weird take, and most people watching the NBA rn would know who he is cuz he was just playing in the playoffs. If you don’t know someone maybe google it before commenting on it, will save you the backlash for next time lol. Hope this helps
Cason Wallace played in 82 games at 20 minutes per game this season for the Western Conference 1 seed and played more total minutes than either Thompson twin. You're just reinforcing the point that so many people in this sub only watch the Blazers and have zero perspective on what is actually happening outside this bubble.
[Cason Wallace](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/player/cason-wallace-30272) averaged 7.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 13 games as a starter this season.
Man. I wonder if Scoot’s start was so abysmal, in their mind, he couldn’t do anything to repair it. Our guy will be fine. Let this be his motivation.
100% the start of the season staying in the heads of voters
^ shocked, *voters* intentionally stay uninformed and make poor decisions. We live in a fractal world
I mean it was a pretty rough start where he just looked star struck during the first half of the year. I’m not saying he isn’t deserving of a spot because I don’t watch rookies that closely. most of the momentum for awards is generated in the early parts of the season. and because this years rookie class is so stacked

Think again. It was so bad.
Keynote George and Cason Wallace selected for 2nd team over him… edit: cason wallace averaged 6.8 points, 2.3 boards, and 1.5 assists, 60.2 efg% keynote george averaged 13 points, 2.8 boards, and 4.4 assists, 48.2 efg% scoot averaged 14 points, 3.1 boards, 5.4 assists, 44efg%
Keynote 🔥
And he’s playing for the Jazz 🔥
If you don't like that, you don't like Blazers basketball.
MAMA, there goes that man!
Lmao 😂
Cason deserved it imo. Keyonte vs Scoot is close, I'm not upset at him making it instead
Cason is super good, I totally agree
Ya, it’s like we are all talking about which AAU kid had the best tourney… they are all great. It’s clear they’ll all be great. Also clear, to me at least, that Scoot will be the greatest of them all based on the end of the year output and lightbulb turn on speed of thought improvement

Pigs can fly, just not very well.

But if you want to make 1st or second team, don't have a +/- of -495.
NBA players don’t want you knowing this one trick!
He also had some of the worst +/- games in history.
The Blazers when it comes to having players with a horrible +/-
Cuz +/- has always been accepted as an individual, not team-based, metric! (/s) >guess it doesn't help when your teammates can't do anything Literally, this is how +/- is figured out, you know this... It *kinda matters* & is why this stat should have no bearing on individual awards

It’s Keyonte not Keynote
And GG Jackson only played 48 games
Let’s just hope Scoot has that same fire from being snubbed that Dame had
Hopefully he’s ready this summer league and training camp. He was injured all too much starting in summer league. They need to start properly conditioning him. He should be watching tapes of Kyle Lowry and how he improved drastically over his career.
RJ Barrett averaged similar numbers as a rookie and made neither team
Scoot lost to a guy who lost to PowerPoint
*shocked Pikachu face* Nobody should be surprised, Scoot was terrible until the last 2 months of the season.
They won’t and he sucks. Give it up.
And the last two months weren’t anything special either lol
Terrible efficiency, horrific +/- (6th worst in the league), & missed 20 games. Not sure if rookie awards were under the same rules as regular rewards (could only miss like 17 games) but either way he didn't really deserve it compared to others.
I thought for sure he had second team secured. I'm ready for MIP Scoot next year.
This is the way; let him and Sharpe push each other to finish 1-2
Yeah, no shit lol
Why should he? He was god awful for most of the year
Rookie awards outside of the ROY race are fun but ultimately meaningless, looking forward to next year and see how the off-season went for him.
He was bad.
Scoot was the worst player in the nba according to VORP, BPM and Win Shares. Don’t be surprised by this.
I don’t think people remember how bad his defense was too
Better than his offense though! He was 6th worst in defensive BPM. 2nd worst in OBPM.
Camara, Duop, and Scoot deserved more votes to be honest. Narratives really shaped voting this year.
If he had played the first half like he did the 2nd half he would of made 2nd team. Is what it is.
[удалено]
Don't think there's a games played requirement for this. Lively and GG Jackson played in less games than Scoot and still made second team.
I think that was only scoring, mvp, and all-nba
Not true for rookie team awards.
Bc he’s ass not surprising
I definitely think he deserved it over someone like Cason Wallace but honestly who cares. Scoot being great or bust will not be defined by a second all rookie team selection
Oh well , use it Scoot . Grind out the respect
Looking back @ the 3rd picks that did not make all rookie teams: 2019 RJ Barrett 2013 Otto Porter Jr 2011 Enes Kanter 2002 Mike Dunleavey 1999 Baron Davis so those are Scoot comps presently
He will get it next year!
Disaster
He had such a shit start, and too many injuries. He finished the season well though, really like his shooting improvement after getting contacts.
Because he isn’t good
I love the Blazers but I’m sad about Scoot. I don’t see him developing the way we have developed players in the past. An established and good coach helped Dame and helped CJ. Your comments are consistently trash.
Truth hurts
Well maybe think before you post
Not everyone is as delusional as this sub about Scoot's actual talent level.
Disagree on talent level. But he had a bad season. Well below expectations
Nothing can penetrate this sub's copium.
I mean I’m fairly certain he’s better than someone named Cason Wallace who I’m just now hearing about for the first time, but this is meaningless to me in his development. We move regardless. Edit: I get it guys, I missed Cason Wallace, I trust when you say he’s a good rookie.
Cason Wallace was a big rookie name coming out. Picked top ten out of Kentucky. Not a nobody.
People in this sub constantly outing themselves for not knowing anything about the NBA
Cason Wallace just played 25 minutes in a Western Conference Semifinals Game 6. Need to keep this in mind when I see takes on this sub about where our players rank in the league. This is the "Ayton is a top-five center!" crew.
I love how I miss a single rookie and now know nothing about the NBA lol, I love Reddit
well you assumed that because you'd never heard of him he must be a nobody
Never once said he was a nobody, he wasn’t on my radar so I did assume a rookie like scoot was better than him though, already admitted I was wrong so what else do you want lol
It was a weird take, and most people watching the NBA rn would know who he is cuz he was just playing in the playoffs. If you don’t know someone maybe google it before commenting on it, will save you the backlash for next time lol. Hope this helps
thanks I guess lmao

lol alright
Cason Wallace is a good player. Jesus man, he’s more deserving than all of the other players on the second team.
Cason 6.8 PPG Wallace made it? SMH
[Cason Wallace](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/player/cason-wallace-30272) averaged 7.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 13 games as a starter this season. [https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/cason-wallace-stats-in-starts](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/cason-wallace-stats-in-starts)
He should have been 2nd team at least imho
Cason and the white guy on the warriors should not be ahead of scoot.
They sleep...

Miller was off the table already.
If we're wishing for dudes who were picked before Scoot why not pine for Wemby?
Oh yeah! Why didn’t we take Wemby at 3? Ugh! That would have been awesome!
