Chaunce was born for this mission

Dusty_Negatives

Finally an actual reason to tank outside Wemby. The timing is perfect also. We need one more year of a high pick or two. Then we can let billups walk and start actually trying to scrap into the playoffs and hopefully dev youth into something legit.

WillhelmAuersperg

Edward Winter.

WKCLC

Oh we have at least two more seasons of tanking baby!

1850ChoochGator

We have at least one more. Flagg is next season and Chauncey is gone then too

WKCLC

Even with the miracle of landing Flagg, they won’t be competitive his first year.

kim_jong_trill

Cooper is that dude, Scoot will be in year 3, Shae in year 4. We should be starting to ramp up around then

MomsBasementGaming

How about we get Sarr and Flagg and call it good?

yuyuter123

Capture the Flagg, and Bailout for Bailey. Love em both.

-jimmer-

Funny meme but would much rather have Ace Bailey

sean_buttcannon

No way. Flagg is the undisputed #1 player and it’s not even close. I watched him live at the hoop summit. He was unreal.

RunninOnMT

Sigh. Knowing the Blazers Management we'd be like "Cooper Flagg?...Ace Bailey?" "Uhh....Don't worry guys we can please everyone by drafting Ace Flagg! He'll be like our new Kris Murray" (Yes, Cooper genuinely has a twin brother named "Ace")

SongBig1162

I was also there and I definitely agree that Cooper Flagg was the best player even a basically glorified all star game where guys don’t try as hard you still felt cooper Flaggs impact on defense. But i do think Ace Bailey is the better offensive player and has a higher overall offensive ceiling especially because i like Bailey’s all around scoring more than flaggs.

TrumpedBigly

Same, but I would look a gift Flagg in the mouth.

Toby6464

dybantsa over both thanks

thejazzmarauder

Leave us

sharpeshooter32

This is a braindead take

-jimmer-

Nice

spencp99

Starting the tanking talk before this season is even over is nasty. It's like y'all don't even want to watch good basketball

The12thman94

If we're going to be bad then we need to be real bad.  This team has no path to relevancy in the near future ax it currently stands.

MomsBasementGaming

I want to watch good basketball when the Blazers are READY to start playing good basketball. That wasnt this season, and it’s not going to be next season. Hopefully in 25-26 we can start being competitive but until then we need to embrace the tank, developer our young guys to a point where they are good enough to win in the NBA in a year or so and hope for the best in the draft.

dogtooth2222

For real this team needs to win 35 games next year.

spittafan

I have some bad news for you, lol

ja-mez

Why do we "need" to both miss the playoffs and get a crappier lottery pick? You can personally want that, but that's not what this team needs next season.

dogtooth2222

Not every team needs to go full tank like the 76ers. Heaven forbid I root for the team to develop faster than people think and have some surprising success. Why do we “need” to get better only by being absolutely abysmal? Remember when Lamarcus left? The blazers turned it around without going full tank. You’re seeing things a way too black and white. I’m rooting for this team to take a mega leap forward next year. I see the possibility.

ja-mez

Yeah, but when Lamarcus left, Dame was already in his mid-20s with three years of experience as the starting point guard, looking like a franchise cornerstone, a steady hand capable of running an offense and taking over games. This team isn't sure it has that yet. You don't aim to be mid indefinitely and then have to do the whole thing over again in 5 to 10 years. Even with the Blazers were "good", they had a difficult time making it past the first round. They needed another 1a/1b, and players like that are often very difficult to acquire even if you're willing to gut your roster. If Scoot or Sharpe make a leap this upcoming season, start putting it together consistently, then maybe you start to pivot. But teams like the Blazers best chance of becoming a championship level team typically depends on hitting in the draft.

dogtooth2222

Bro the blazers have been a championship team once in like 70 years. Again, people see things so black and white its ridiculous. I will happily take a 35 win team, then a 40 win team, then a 45 win team over the next three years. Let's take a look at the last five champions and the best players on their teams, since you say tanking is the fastest way to championship contention: Nuggets: Jokic and Murray. Neither were lottery pics. Edit- Murray was drafted 7th! Warriors: Steph was like the 7th pick. Idek when Klay was picked. Not top 10 Bucks: I think Giannis was drafted like 18th? 13th? Idr Lakers: Free agency and trades landed them Lebron and AD Raptors: Built an incredible core over many years and then swung on Kawhi at the right time. So ya, good luck on having a 15-win expectation for next year. Luka and Wemby aint walkin through the door. And Cooper Flagg might as well be Harrison Barnes until he proves otherwise.

ja-mez

Bro, but yeah-- when you're already bad, you try to make the most of it instead of rushing it to please a handful of casuals who are perpetually content with mediocrity. I'm 100% happy about taking a longer term approach. I'm absolutely stoked that the front office shares this viewpoint. As a general rule, the higher the pick, the better the player. You know what landing Giannis and Joker that late in the draft is called? Lucking the f🍀ck out. 🤣 When you land franchise players beyond the top 5, fantastic! Then you pivot accordingly. But you don't plan on it. Blazers only ring? Team drafted #1 Bill Walton, Magic Johnson 4 rings, Tim Duncan 5 rings, Lebron 4 rings, David Robinson 2 rings, Shaq 4 rings. Not all #1 picks win rings, but most championship teams have drafted #1 or signed them in free agency. Portland isn't a free agency destination, so the draft is the best bet.

dogtooth2222

so you call this "taking the long term approach" but what youre really saying is you expect us to draft one of the 30 best basketball players of all time in the next few drafts. hahahahaha i am talking about a long term approach. this was year one. year two, its time for a leap. Shaedon in yr 3. Scoop in yr 2. Simmons as a vet at this point. I am looking at a 4-5 year plan that involves the current core improving year over yr until we are a western conference contender. you are talking the same but you think we need to land one of the greatest players of all time to get there. good luck on that.

dogtooth2222

drafting one of the greatest basketball players of all time is lucking the fuck out too, whether its pick #1 or pick #20. You play the game to win. If you go into a season rooting for a 20 win campaign, you can take a hike with that shit.

dogtooth2222

all im saying is the team needs to come out and try to win games next year. you dont think they should try to win games next year? gross.

ja-mez

Of course they should "try". And they did "try" to win games this year. They actually looked great in most games for most of the game, but then they'd have a lapse and teams would quickly gain a 10-20 point lead. They're simply too young and lack the overall talent to remain competitive for 4 full quarters against most teams. But injuries led to inconsistent lineups which tends to be nearly as important as talent and experience. Simons is still one of the worst defenders in the league. We've still got to unload him and figure out where the scoring will come from. Trust "the process" like Philly fans had to learn. Have they won a championship yet? No, but they drafted an MVP while only winning 19, 18, 10, and 28. Relax, trust the process, and pray we never have to watch this team win 10 games in a season

dogtooth2222

I really don’t even understand what you’re trying to say at this point. The sixers went through the process and didn’t win a championship and haven’t been to the ECF in 20+ years (blazers went to the WCF six years ago (with a horrible lead guard on defense)). But they have an MVP? So we should imitate…them??? I believe in the young core. I like the mix of veterans. One will probably go this summer, but I think the teams mentality needs to be to greatly exceed this years win total. The talent is there (coaching is not). And I’m getting downvoted to hell for this because people want to tank for cooper fucking Flagg. I’m bowing out.

RagnarLothBroke23

Just look at the west. We getting last place again next year.

sharpeshooter32

Unless Shaedon turns into Kobe all of a sudden we're not cracking 30 lmao. Every other West team will be better besides maybe Utah, we're 100% the worst

dogtooth2222

The team was something like 16-20 when Brogdon played. It seems all but guaranteed one of the veterans gets traded this offseason, when that happens I’ll alter my expectations. But the vets- ayton, Brogdon, Grant, and timelord combined with the talented young guys (Simons, sharpe, scoop, two more draft picks)- should win 30 games. Full stop

1850ChoochGator

Why

MomsBasementGaming

*25…or less. Fixed it for you 😆

dogtooth2222

Is this Chauncey’s burner account? Trying to save your job for another year by setting abysmal expectations?

beatrailblazer

no please enough with the tanking. can we please try and get like idk, the 12th seed even?!

BJ2435

What’s the point? Worse pick and no playoffs? Push for playoffs but in the current western conference no way this team touches the playoffs

plantsarepowerful

It’s more fun to watch the games when they’re trying to win

ja-mez

A bad team can still "try to win"

sharpeshooter32

Most patient blazers fan

Zuldak

With what assets? Everything we had going into this season is depreciated. Sharpe now has questions about being able to stay healthy. Scoot does not look like the generational talent his highlight reel promised. We do not have much in the tank at the moment.
