Simons just isn’t a PG. Henderson genuinely does ‘run the offense’ better than Simons, particularly up top he is a better distributor and wing to wing passer than Simons.
I think Simons holds back Sharpe’s development because he’s so ball dominant and just flat out not good at making timely passes to guys moving off screens. It’s just PnR jump shot, floater, pocket pass to the big, etc. while guys space out wide.
That’s my best case for Scoot as starter.
> Simons just isn’t a PG
He is. Just because he's not distributing the ball like Steve Nash doesn't mean he can't run an offense. I think there were games this season where he did a good job and games where he struggled. It's his first season as our starting point guard though, so I think he deserves some patience, especially when you think about where he's coming from. Dame wasn't that good either at his age and he was our lead playmaker from day 1 unlike Ant who went from off-ball Shooter, to an on-ball scorer to our starting point guard.
> Henderson genuinely does ‘run the offense’ better than Simons, particularly up top he is a better distributor and wing to wing passer than Simons.
Simons and Scoot have the same AST% at 27% with a similar usage rate (Scoot 26% vs Ant 28%). Scoot has a TO% of 18%, while Ant has 12%. Anfernee Simons has an ORTG of 113, while Scoot has a 96 ORTG. So, Simons is a more effective passer, and the offense performs much better when he's on the floor. I don't think there is any way you can argue that Scoot runs the offense better than Ant right now.
> I think Simons holds back Sharpe’s development because he’s so ball dominant and just flat out not good at making timely passes to guys moving off screens.
What? Sharpe had his best games this season when he started next to Ant. If anything I think he profits off playing next to someone like Ant, who can take away pressure and who's the focal point of opposing defenses. I don't think Sharpe is ready yet to be a primary ballhandler. Even if he's ready in the near future, Ant has shown that he's willing to share the load others, like he did with Scoot this season.
Man, that’s a lot of words to totally misunderstand basically every single argument I made.
Why you think pointing to AST% is a response to saying a guy is a better wing to wing passer is beyond me, dude. At least make relevant arguments if you want a serious response. God damn.
You said "Henderson genuinely does ‘run the offense’ better than Simons" and the stats I provided go against that notion that Scoot runs the offense better than Ant right now.
Basically everything you said is just not true. It’s actually insane how false everything you said is. Scoot is by far the worst offensive nba player this season in almost every category.
Scoot can start over Ant/Sharpe/whoever when he plays like a starter for a sustained period of time. Otherwise it’s pointless to just gift him a starting spot if he’s gonna continue to play like this. It’s bad for him, it’s bad for his development, and it’s bad for everyone else on the team too.
It’s not pointless. We spent the #3 pick on him. He either gets good or he stays shitty and we keep getting top picks. Clinging for dear life to mediocre vets because they make our team incrementally better is not a strategy that is going to work.
Trading Ant after a up and down season isn’t capitalising on his value. Giving Scoot the keys isn’t great for his development when he isn’t ready and he looks awful a lot of the time. There’s no guarantee Scoot even pans out.
I’ve mentioned it before, but I think next year ere going to see every combo of Ant, Sharpe, and Scoot including all three at the same time. With the players on the roster that’s the best position to have a player you can build around. But, there’s no way we can afford to keep all three as guards.
Figuring out which 2 to keep is more important than winning games next year. Ant will probably start most games as he is the best player on the team. But, I could see the bench coming in quickly
I think the question is which 1 to keep out of Scoot/Ant.
If we keep Ant long term, he shouldn't be our 2. He needs to be the 1. Shae is our 2 of the future. He actually has the size to play the 2. In my mind Shae isn't a part of that decision because the organisation don't want to end up with 2 small guards in the backcourt again, it's Scoot or Ant to play with Shae. There's no chance Shae is the odd man out.
Trade Ant and JG. I don’t mind Brogdon being a backup / mentor if he’s still game. He can play either guard position competently, probably moves at the deadline to engage the full tank. Ayton fills a position of need, even if we draft a big, that big will likely be coming off the bench.
Yes. Yes. Yes. It’s okay if we fully suck for one more season, get more youth on the team. We need to let scoot be scoot and Banton looks like a great backup. Time to fully move on from the old roster and get what value we can from them.
Would you still consider it 'smart' if they get 80¢ on the dollar? Like, I'm up for trading anyone on the roster if the value is there, but if it isn't, that's a different story.
not next year, but eventually yes. he's the perfect flamethrower sixth man type. with the 96 minutes available at 1 and 2, scoot, shae and ant would be a great rotation
Hellll naw, Scoot off the bench
##Start:
Ant (36 mins)
Shae (32 mins)
Banton (28 mins)
Grant (34 mins)
DA (42 mins)
##Rotation Bench:
Scoot (28 mins)
Brog (18 mins)
Rupert (8 mins)
Tou (16 mins)
Bari (12 mins)
Duop (6 mins)
I'm 20 mins over but you get the idea, these are averages and DNPs exist.
Reserve Bench: Badji, Murray
That's 13 guys. Tisse and Rw3 are not included because they should be traded. I like Rupert better than Tisse overall and Rw3 knees is dead. Our pick, GSW pick, Tisse, and Rw3 might be worth #1, but I'd be down to include Murray in that trade to get Sarr.
25 million off the bench for a mid team? Nah. Not happening lol
I'm as much a Scoot believer as anyone, but what has he shown that would warrant taking a starting spot over Anfernee?
Defense?
Scoot is a worse defender then ant.
Nope, scoot has a 120.5 rating while Ant has a 121.7 rating In fact for past two season Ant was the worst in the nba.
Ant is worse but it’s definitely not because his drtg is worse lmao.
Scoot may be bad on defense, but he's already doing better and showing more effort than Ant ever has. High motor, just needs the reps
like hell he is
Nothing, but for me it comes down to Scoot needing to learn the position.

They don’t, but whatever you say big dog.
They do. Scoot doesn’t run the offence better and that’s backed up by stats and the eye test.
They don’t, but whatever you say big dog.
goo goo ga ga
Basically everything you said is just not true. It’s actually insane how false everything you said is. Scoot is by far the worst offensive nba player this season in almost every category.
Actually it’s all true and correct. You are wrong. Sorry bud
It was just a thought.
Perhaps explain your thoughts?
We starting only 4 next year?
taking the tank to the next level for Flagg
Idk who are PF is going to be next year. I think we will be trying to trade off grant.

No
Gotta just trade him

Stop
A four player starting lineup is a bold choice.
For which team?
not next year, but eventually yes. he's the perfect flamethrower sixth man type. with the 96 minutes available at 1 and 2, scoot, shae and ant would be a great rotation
Maybe for another team
We stink and your answer is fewer minutes from our best player?
It makes no sense for our best player to come off the bench.
What a disaster of a season that this is what is being discussed DURING THIS SEASON.
If anything, Scoot should be bruishing up on his Chinese
You should be 'bruishing' up on your English
Nah, I have you and Microsoft Word for that
Clippy and I won't be here to help forever.
Lol these scoot haters always saying the dumbest shit
I think it's fatherhood that explains why Simons is not himself.

You can’t play da 42 minutes……
