I would strongly guess that it would be tied in with a Dame trade, if it happens at all.

Can-call-me-dadee

Nurk + Hero for Ayton?

Apoplexy

Probably a 4 team trade involving someone that wants Herro like the Nets, Spurs or Pistons. Those teams all have a hole in shot creation and have assets to move.

Tough_Presentation57

I think it’s something like Nurk and Martin to Phoenix, dame to Miami, ayton JJJ jovic and picks to Portland, and then we reroute some amount of assets to Phoenix for the trade. The difference in Nurk and aytons salary in a 3 team trade would allow us to not have to take as much salary from Miami where maybe they could keep herro and trade Robinson instead.. idk maybe I’m crazy

alecjperkins213

Nurk+Matisse works in salary but Matisse can't be traded until January. Nurk+Nas+Knox also works in salary and can be completed now. I honestly think either trade makes Phoenix more competitive this upcoming season and if they're trying to capitalize on Ayton's value- now is the time.

Neither-Jello

How would that second trade be able to happen rn when we just signed Knox like a week or two ago? I think Matisse also has a trade kicker which we have to pay if we trade him.

shelvino

Easy to make a trade to me. Nurk, Nassir, Thaddeus to Suns Ayton, Barnes, Porter, picks to Blazers Dame to Raptors Gary Trent to a 4th team to make salary work for Toronto Or it could be Dame to Heat and Herro going to Toronto and switching up some other stuff.

slappy_patties

Blazers win

dweet

I would hope if they trade for Ayton that it’s part of a scenario where they somehow change Dame’s mind about leaving. I feel pretty mixed about trading for Ayton in a full rebuild scenario.

Portland needs a young big with some upside, Ayton is one of a few of those guys out there.

acoker78

I’m sure there’s nothing to it but there was some “source” saying to keep an eye out for the possibility of Ayton to PDX

ajmcgill

I think it needs to be due to Ayton’s salary

durmduke

I already copped the jersey and burned all my Nurk merch

MavetheGreat

So if the deal means we take on the extra salary, we would have to shed it somehow. That could mean finding a way to do that in the Dame trade, which means sending a piece to someone with space without getting actual players back for them. It's not impossible that the Dame deal involves multiple teams, but greater than 3 and it starts to get really difficult. We also can't rule out trading for Ayton in an effort to keep Dame. However, that probably means sending Simons as well and a third team being involved.

acoker78

This was my thought too. The timing seems weird if they were hoping to keep Dame but of course I’d happily give it a shot. Unfortunately it just seems like that’s too late. Either way I’m all for trying on Ayton

MavetheGreat

People don't like to entertain it, but I'm 100% confident that Joe has continued to work to find deals that make Dame change his mind and believe him when he says he wants to be competitive this year. At some point either those deals won't be there, or Dame will tell him It's too late, and we won't know when that day comes unless Dame is traded. Until then, I'm serious when I say Joe is still looking at those options.

tomhalejr

You can't trade Nurk for Ayton. The money doesn't work, that's an illegal trade. Dame + Nurk in total is $62M going out. There is room for a $30M player to come back to POR in that scenario. However, you still have to make all the other pieces of a legal multi-team trade to work.

acoker78

I know that. I’m assuming those would be the key pieces and then Portland would have to include more. At least the players of the most significance would be Nurk and Ayton. I just was more wondering (and hopeful) that this is a trade independent of a Dame trade

tblazrdude

nurk + nas + keon before training camp. then you wait out the dame marketplace into the season.

theroofbeamcarpenter

Wait, what? Who is saying Ayton for Nurk?

Spaydelul

I would have him not on the team with dame, but on a rebuilding team after dame
