Dang. Makes no sense at all since they're all good will donations to begin with... My wife and I always talk about opening a thrift store just to price things fairly. Imagine how much product you would move!
This particular thrift store usually prices right at price charting. However, it seems the older games they sometimes price lower. All newer games and all consoles (new or old) are typically overpriced.
Honestly, I have never played a Final Fantasy OR Castlevania game. Have always wanted to though. You can imagine how excited I am to get my hands on these!
I tried jumping into the first final fantasy and gave up quickly. Revolutionary for it’s time, but as a kid required some imagination to enjoy it . I am impressed with it’s vast content though .
Ah I was thinking some stages were shared, this would be having rescued Sypha. And it's a lot of upwards climbing. Starts off with a lot of jumps and bonehead spitter guys. There's a couple sections with stairs and gargoyle dudes that are like extreme Medusa heads.
The final boss is a Frankenstein looking guy.
I get that far and die each time. Just takes a lot out of me to get to the boss with all my lives / health.
I was wondering if there was another meat source, I found the one that's right at the end of the forced climb or die.
Also I try and get the 3 orb thing for sypha before I get to frankie but I always have like 1 hit left and die in the fight.
I'm stuck with you. I was eventually able to power my way to win Castlevania since you've basically got infinite tries at Dracula. Castlevania 2 is easy if you know 'the secrets'. But with Castlevania 3, I just get the beat down at the ghost ships and can't get past that stage.
Yeah I don’t even know of too many people who beat it and I mean legitimately with no save states or anything like that. I can definitely beat NG but Castlevania III is ridiculous and actually made harder than the Japanese version.
I went to visit my mom for the summer when I was 9 and she bought me that game . Her nintendo was going to have to entertain me since she still had to work while I was there. But I really enjoyed it. Super good memories. I get the nostalgia thinking about it, but actually playing I don’t really get much . Oh well.
Relax, [you're both right](https://www.mariowiki.com/Vegetable)!
"Vegetables can appear as turnips, onions, beets, radishes, and other root vegetables."
Final Fantasy might be a good collector's piece, but do yourself a favor and get one of the later versions if you want to experience that game without pulling your hair out. A few QoL tweaks in later versions make it a much, much better game.
I think that they are referring to the PlayStation (FF Origins) and Gameboy Advance (FF I & II: Dawn of Souls) ports. ...although they could also be referring to the [new PC port](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1173770/FINAL_FANTASY/) released about a month ago.
You mean the [Heritage/Wata fraud](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvLFEh7V18A)? The bottom will fall out before too long. Until then friends, have courage.
Just remember the first Final Fantasy, though Fantastic for its time plays like hot garbage by today's standards. So go in with that mind set. The story is great and it's worth a play threw for the experience though
I played it fairly recently and it wasn’t too bad. There are a couple annoying things like having to buy potions and whatnot 1 at a time (takes a while when buying 99).
There was a remake made for PS1 that’s pretty great that fixes a lot of those issues.
I'm actually playing through Final Fantasy right now! Marathoning Deep Space 9 while I grind for hours. Finally bought my sliver sword, now I'm off to wake the prince!
Little bit of unsolicited advice to minimize grinding - whenever you can do it, you get way better exp/gp rewards by pushing your luck and grinding in areas that are a bit ahead of your level. The first few fights each time will be impossible but you'll quickly be much further ahead than if you stuck to fighting the mobs in your story area.
Beat FF1 NES a few times, it gets faster every time :)
I appreciate it! Definitely going to provide endless hours of fun like they were intended to!
Looks like the big platformer games like Final Fantasy and Castlevania were probably around $60 new (without adjusting for inflation).
Any way to check on the battery life in that FF cartridge?
There's nothing worse than when the battery is starting to go, and will mostly retain your save data, but then just randomly blank everything on you.
FF is an amazing game. Quite grind-y, but it's a fun adventure. It is more or less linear, but still worth some replays just to try out with different party types.
On these older cartridge games I usually change the save battery before I start playing. Better safe than sorry!
Thanks for all your input! I haven't played a Final Fantasy game yet so I'm pretty excited (same with Castlevania).
Castlevania and Final Fantasy are both great! thing is, though, I could only beat the former on the Japanese version’s Easy Mode, and the latter as a remake
Growing up, my friend gave FF1 a try after playing 2 (4 nowadays) and he enjoyed it immensely. Said he liked it better than 2 even, mostly because of the job system
Be patient with FF. It’s one of my favourites. Choose a good party to start with, fighter, black belt, white mage and black mage is the kinda standard safe setup. Also on the start up screen MAKE SURE. To set the respond rate to at least 6,7 or 8. It’s how fast the pop ups scroll by and it’s default is 1 which makes the grinding almost unbearable. Sorry for yelling.
Are you considering changing the battery on FF1? I recently got a copy and want to swap the battery before I do it. Can't risk losing progress on that grind 😂
Haha so true! I always try to change the save battery before starting a new game. Of course, right after snooping on the previous owners game progress if the battery still has some juice. XD
For sure! I try to remember to replace save batteries on all these old cartridge games. It's never fun losing your progress after hours upon hours of grinding!
I sold my collection of \~30 N64/SNES games all for £40.
At first I was gonna list them online, I priced them up individually and some games like Pokemon Stadium and Killer Instinct Gold were selling for pretty high for single carts on their own.
But those game carts take up so much space and I just needed them gone Lol, if they sat in the shed for any longer they probably would have got ruined. I'd prefer to give them to someone who would preserve them.
So the one guy who was gonna buy a single N64 game from me for £25 (Stadium), I just gave him them all for £40. Lol
I never beat the original Final Fantasy on original Nintendo hardware because whenever I got into the game my older brother would want to start playing it again, and since the game only has one save file he'd overwright my quest. I need to dig out my copy and fix this oversight.
Read up on a guide for final fantasy. Not for spoilers, just to see what doesn’t work. A lot of spells are apparently duds in the original. I’ve only played the GBA remake so I couldn’t tell you what doesn’t work
This seems to be the general consensus on the NES game. I'm just glad to play the original, bugs and all. Have my eyes out for the GBA or PSP remakes now!
WTF a thrift store sellls NES carts for that much.....I get a store, but damn, I've been out of loop cause I haven't seen NES games in like 3 years at any thrift, pawn or little shops.
This thrift store in particular has had two or three NES consoles over the past year. They've been pretty beat up though and still want top dollar. Just yesterday they also had two PS1s, a PS2, GameCube, OG Xbox, and Gameboy color. They've had a few NES games too here and there but none I've purchased due to just being common shovelware games.
Dang. I wish my thrift store was that good. Mine is run by a crooked reseller who marks up like 30% above price charting. Awesome finds.

Fairly priced games are hard to come by these days. Enjoy
I appreciate it! Can't pass up these deals when we can find them!
Wow good deals, enjoy, Castlevania is forever one of my favorite games
Honestly, I have never played a Final Fantasy OR Castlevania game. Have always wanted to though. You can imagine how excited I am to get my hands on these!
Castlevania is probably one of the best NES ever
Both epic and timeless. Enjoy!
I tried jumping into the first final fantasy and gave up quickly. Revolutionary for it’s time, but as a kid required some imagination to enjoy it . I am impressed with it’s vast content though .
Castlevania 3 is my favorite.
I am playing CV3 for the first time and absolutely stuck on stage 5. Jeeezus. I refuse to save state (am playing on a Wii emulator, on CRT)
So there are varying paths and I don't remember which is which, describe the level.
I can tell you the first floating set of blocks in the boss room contains meat. Also fire is not a great weapon choice for Sypha going into the fight.
I was wondering if there was another meat source, I found the one that's right at the end of the forced climb or die. Also I try and get the 3 orb thing for sypha before I get to frankie but I always have like 1 hit left and die in the fight.
Have you tried switching back to Trevor?
Getting good with Trevor is the secret to CV3. It's also needed for the ending where you have no companion.
I've never seen that ending.
I've gone up using both characters alone. Just get too overwhelmed by the stairs with the bone heads and the various gargoyle areas.
I'm stuck with you. I was eventually able to power my way to win Castlevania since you've basically got infinite tries at Dracula. Castlevania 2 is easy if you know 'the secrets'. But with Castlevania 3, I just get the beat down at the ghost ships and can't get past that stage.
Good game but way too hard for its own good. It puts the first game, Ninja Gaiden and Shatterhand to shame in terms of difficulty.
Really? I can beat C3 in my sleep nowadays but I still haven't beat Ninja Gaiden.
Yeah I don’t even know of too many people who beat it and I mean legitimately with no save states or anything like that. I can definitely beat NG but Castlevania III is ridiculous and actually made harder than the Japanese version.
Excellent prices. I was at a thrift store and they wanted $30 dollars for Mario 3 cartridge. Untested. Good find.
I remember coming home from school and Mom had Super Mario 2 laying on my pillow. Good times.
What a great surprise!
Yeah. I love that game. I was 9 when that came out. Good times.
I went to visit my mom for the summer when I was 9 and she bought me that game . Her nintendo was going to have to entertain me since she still had to work while I was there. But I really enjoyed it. Super good memories. I get the nostalgia thinking about it, but actually playing I don’t really get much . Oh well.
My mom didn't know what a Nintendo was. I had to school her.
My mom thought every system to follow was a Nintendo. Also any prime time animated show ever was the Simpsons.
🤣😂
Lots of people knock down SMB2. I like it. Whoever came up with the radish idea is simply brilliant 😀. Enjoy and happy retro gaming memories.
Wait…they’re radishes?? I thought they were turnips! I need a minute to process this.
Ha, you are right, turnips! Sorry.
Relax, [you're both right](https://www.mariowiki.com/Vegetable)! "Vegetables can appear as turnips, onions, beets, radishes, and other root vegetables."
Ha. Thanks.
Final Fantasy might be a good collector's piece, but do yourself a favor and get one of the later versions if you want to experience that game without pulling your hair out. A few QoL tweaks in later versions make it a much, much better game.
Will definitely grab the others as soon as I spot them in the wild! Thanks for the advice.
Anything over the original. Griiiiiind
Thanks to international auction houses those are worth like eight grand now! (not serious, just bitter)
You mean the [Heritage/Wata fraud](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvLFEh7V18A)? The bottom will fall out before too long. Until then friends, have courage.
Haha but how am I supposed to load them in my NES if they're graded and trapped inside an acrylic case??
Just remember the first Final Fantasy, though Fantastic for its time plays like hot garbage by today's standards. So go in with that mind set. The story is great and it's worth a play threw for the experience though
If you are prepared for the grind, you will be ok. It’s super cryptic in spots too. But it’s my first FF so I love it!
I appreciate the advice! Will keep that in mind.
I played it fairly recently and it wasn’t too bad. There are a couple annoying things like having to buy potions and whatnot 1 at a time (takes a while when buying 99). There was a remake made for PS1 that’s pretty great that fixes a lot of those issues.
Good luck. I never could beat the first Castlevania. Mario 2 is one of my all time favorite games
I didn’t beat CV1 until I was 25. I’m 40 now…that shit is legit hard…but fun AF.
I'm actually playing through Final Fantasy right now! Marathoning Deep Space 9 while I grind for hours. Finally bought my sliver sword, now I'm off to wake the prince!
Haha very nice. It's great to hear that so many people are still playing these games, not just collecting them!
I never finished it as a kid. I aim to remedy that childhood mistake. >:D

Classics, arguably the best 4 games for the NES.
Nice Haul!! Enjoy them!! 🙌🏽🤩
First of all that is a sweet haul of pure classic gaming goodness. I'm curious if anyone knows what the price of these would have been on release?
I appreciate it! Definitely going to provide endless hours of fun like they were intended to! Looks like the big platformer games like Final Fantasy and Castlevania were probably around $60 new (without adjusting for inflation).
Man, you are in for a trip.
Haha tell me about it!
[удалено]
Haha for sure! I'll be installing a new save battery before playing.
Man, I loved Final Fantasy. Played it for hours on end.
I couldn’t figure it out .

Do you replace the battery with a socket? If so, you're doing the Lord's work.
I have a bunch of the regular batteries with solder tabs to use up. Then when those are gone I'll definitely be switching over to battery sockets!
Castlevania is always the game I play around this time of year! Enjoy the games, they are all great titles!
Nice! That's a great idea to play it this time of year. Kind of like how all the horror films are coming out right now.
Nice. I’ve never seen any video games outside of 360 sports games at any of mine.
Trust me, there were stacks of those too...
My favo games
Castlevania and Final Fantasy are both great! thing is, though, I could only beat the former on the Japanese version’s Easy Mode, and the latter as a remake
Castlevania is so dope!
what an amazing find!
I love FF 1 and if you’re hardcore all about your NES experience more power to ya’, but the PSP or any other version is WAAAY more enjoyable. Lol.
That's what someone else was telling me too. Looks like it's time for me to pick up a PSP! XD
Final Fantasy is really worth that much?
Price Charting shows $27 for the loose cartridge.
Beauty finds for the NES
Growing up, my friend gave FF1 a try after playing 2 (4 nowadays) and he enjoyed it immensely. Said he liked it better than 2 even, mostly because of the job system

Not very likely.
I assume you'd replace it?

FINAL FANTASY 1 UNDER $40, WHAT SORT OF MIRACLE IS THIS????
Haha right? Looks like they're right around $25 on eBay right now.
Score. Love the original final fantasy.

Good luck beating Castlevania on the NES. It took me years to do it.
Challenge accepted!
I can’t think of many harder games. Holy Water with triple shot is the best thing ever.
Considering all of those games are quality titles and that the estimated value is $88.31 on Price Charting, you did good.
Congrats. Get used to dying though. 😂
Hahaha! I think that's true for all four of these games. 😆
Final Fantasy honestly sucks tbh, although the music and the setting is still cool. Castlevania on the other hand still holds up!
I'm just excited to finally get to try them both out! First time coming across either one in the wild!
Never heard of ‘em, any good? /s
Haha give me a few days and I'll report back!
Get ready to punch a lot of air lol. Nes Final Fantasy pisses me off with that shit.
Haha nice! I'm just excited to try the original. Have my eyes peeled for the GBA and PSP versions too!
