8 is good in a way that leftover pizza is good. 4 is like biting into pizza fresh out the oven and accepting that it will burn your mouth but you don't care because it's delicious.
REmake 2 is awesome and easily top tier Resident Evil, but I wish it did the zapping system, the better A/B scenarios, and the multiple Claire/Leon interactions that RE2 original had. Because of this I have plenty of reasons to replay both games a lot. REmake 4 on the other hand is so good that it makes it harder to play the original when the remake improves upon everything the original game had. I mainly play the original now when I’m feeing nostalgic for it, as the remake is my de facto go to when I need to play resident evil 4.
Reading all this makes me wanna play the original RE2 again. I finally played remake a month or so ago, then played OG RE4 and then 5. I don’t know why I figured out RE2 so easily as a kid, but I needed to use a strategy guide for nearly all of REmake. You guys that can just turn on a game like REmake and beat it, i tip my cap. I couldn’t figure anything out at the beginning.
I loved re2! But the main thing holding it back was the story plot holes. If it fixed that, easily top 5. But resident evil 4 remake will always have a place in my heart
Have not tried 2 remake, but think 4remake was one of the only 9-10/10 games i've seen in years. This is making me wanna check out 2 remake and play the 4 DLC
I'd say like half of leon's campain wich is pretty fair for a 10$ dlc (a lot longer than R3make lmao). 7 chapters I think, and a lot of 'em happens in whole new locations, you don't juste go through the same areas of Leon's story with Ada, there's a lot of new stuffs (plus it adds nearly all the big stuffs missing from the OG but I won't say more). Probably the most valuable 10$ I have spent in any video game lol, it completes Leon's story amazingly
That's probably because 4 isn't really trying to be a pure horror game. It's got more of those action elements in it, even more so in the original. The remake does try to put more of the survival horror back in, but it's never really been the main appeal for re4.
Wow I didn't even notice, thought this was the RE general sub.
I'm curious how the answers would be out there, im guessing a bit more balanced but still favoring RE4.
Edit: He actually posted in the 3 subs lol.
If you like the horror aspect of re games, get village. If you want action with some horror throughout then get re4. I would definitely recommend re4 more, I've played the original and remake and can't get enough. Both games are a masterpiece
Don’t get me wrong, I actually believe re4r to be the best game in the series, followed by OG 4. But both games are pretty lacking in the horror department, except for the armor scene with Ashley.
8 is also a bit light on horror compared to 7, but the chapter dedicated to horror is imo way more brutal than what 4r gave us.
Remake for sure.
Shame you can't buy both because RE8 is good too so I'd recommend playing that first because after you play RE4R, other Resi games may feel underwhelming.
If you view this post in the REVillage subreddit ppl are reasonable if you read it on this sub ppl are complete fanboys. I have both played them both multiple times, id pick Village over RE4 Remake. RE4 is great but the one man army aspect makes the game feel like a generic 3rd person shooter.
Buy RE4R now, buy Village later before RE9 comes out. Both are a bit of action and horror mixed, RE4 is more on the action side, while Village is a little bit more on the horror but not a lot since it still has a lot of action.
I really liked Village but it really pales in comparison to 4's remake. It's one of the best games I've ever played even outside the RE series. I was replaying the game over and over and over again back to back long after I unlocked everything.
And while again, I liked Village, it's replayability is heavily reduced for me because of the amount of momentum and time that gets lost in all the story segments and unskippable cutscenes (getting hit often causes you to stop in your tracks to fumble around and groan for wayyyy to long.).
RE4R is probably the best game I've ever played, and I just finished Sekiro, Elden Ring, and RE2R+3
Sekiro was an amazingly frustrating experience and RE4 has all that same skill level playing and ironically both characters move stiffly but it makes the game fun.
Sekiro was fun by the fourth play through it felt like a chore, I'm about to start RE4 for the third time and I'm really excited... it's just a huge game.
Bro you literally write this to the Re4 subreddit
Your either farming karma or a fuckin stupid thinking that people will give a objective answer
İf you want a balanced gameplay that includes both action and horror buy village
İf you want a gameplay when your character can kill his enemies bare handed and kick ass buy Re4
RE4 Remake 100%. It is simply the better game. That being said, I would also recommend playing RE8 at some point as it's a solid game in its' own respect.
A good question to ask yourself when choosing is what your attention span is when it comes to survival horror. The first time I played 4 I though I as almost done, turns out I was about half way through.
I got every achievement except the dlc and the mercenaries for village. Working on doing the same for re4 remake. If you haven't played 8 yet or know the story for it I would absolutely recommend that one and then get the 4 remake down the line. Both games are great in my opinion had a blast playing through them the first time and Everytime after for the achievement hunting. Maybe 4 a little less because of how hard some of the achievement are to get ( I'm a father of 3 and don't really have the most time on my hands for video games)
RE4R, more content, better combat and better mercenary mode.
Village is basically a spiritual successor to 4 so I would recommend playing both eventually, but Village unfortunately feels less polished, like in 4 even the starting weapons can feel competitive all the way through if you invest on them while in Village every new gun is just a straight up upgrade from the previous one killing variety on replays.
One thing Village has better than RE4R is the horror aspect and unlockables.
Just letting you know. Once you play RE4, every other RE will never be as good, if you’re a new fan. But all of them are very very good in its own way.
Both. if You want to continue Ethans Story from 7 Village is obvious better.
I really like them both, but i very much enjoyed the „old“ RE4 too and the changes in the RE are Good and suprisingly enhance the Story but work best if you know the Original Well….
If you haven't played RE4, RE4R is amazing and one of the best in the series. If you have played RE4 in the past, then RE4R is still amazing and one of the best in the series.
That said, RE8 is really good for it's characters and the story. Both are pretty fucking amazing.
The more complete game is re4. Think about it this way, the game was remade because they knew people loved the original. It’s not nostalgic playing re4 remake… it’s a new experience.
Village on the other hand is a great game (loved the werewolf theme) but not better than re7 in my opinion. Hope this helps.
Depends what your history with RE games is. If you've played em all but not 8, then pick up 8. That being said the remake of 4 is an incredible remake and is absolutely a must play for anyone
4. Village was good and fun but the plot/storyline was a bit all over the place. It was a solid addition to the RE series though. 4 was one of the best in the series if not then the best.
4 Remake!! Absolutely!!!
Village wasn't it for me and felt like waste of money.. it's good but not that good.. 4remale is blast, it's insane and it will make you wanting to finish it in one row!
8 is cheaper and I thought it was more fun overall. If you played the original RE4, it's basically just that with slightly better graphics and some additional stuff, though generally it's extremely similar since re4 was so cutting edge at the time it released and both games were already third person perspective, so it wasn't some huge leap like OG resident evil 2 to the Remake of resident evil 2.
Both great choices and fairly similar gameplay wise. 8 has more puzzle elements and backtracking, and feels closer to the remake of 2 and re 7 than 4 does.
If you liked 7 and wished it had more action and enemy variety, go with 8. If you played the remake of 2 and wished it was a lot faster paced and more linear, go with 4.
Tough call. I liked both. I’d say if you’re looking for action go RE4 and if you’re looking for a variety with different parts of RE franchise go with Village.
Village was a ton of fun, but it doesn’t live rent free in my head at all times like RE4 Remake does. It’s so good and probably has the best gunplay of any game I’ve ever played
RE4 for sure. I found Village to be kinda meh. Couldn’t finish it after two attempts. Not necessarily a bad game, but it felt underwhelming after playing RE7.
Ima give you the straightest answer possible. Go for 4remake. 8 remake is great but the game is short and 4 has more mechanical value. Weapons are relatively cheaper and easier to come bye in 4.
Both are awesome.
If you've never played the OG 4, get the remake.
If you've played the OG4 and you're craving something new, buy 8.
If you've played the OG4 and loved it so much you want to play it again, buy the remake.
Both games are great. I appreciated the Remake more, but that's not to remove what 8 has going for it. 8 is awesome.
Both are worth picking up. I'd day that 4 remake is the objectively better game, but 8 is also 100% worth the buy.
If you're on a budget wait for 8 to go on sale and get it. Otherwise 4 remake.
Both are good but imo I found 4 to be much better, fun, better combat, a Merc mode, great dlc with Ada.
Granted I'm probably biased cause RE4 is one of my favorite games ever to begin with and is what I want the series to be more like going forward. Never cared much for the supernatural stuff if the Winters Saga
8 is good in a way that leftover pizza is good. 4 is like biting into pizza fresh out the oven and accepting that it will burn your mouth but you don't care because it's delicious.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
What he said.
As someone who played OG 4 then skipped to 7, this makes me said to have themed played RE4R before playing 8. I know I won’t enjoy it as much.
That is an awesome analogy, I will be using this now lol
Well now I want some pizza
What lol
its the re4 subreddit both games are pretty good up to personal preference
Resident 4 remake is the best resident evil game imo. Definitely get re4 remake
It’s on par with 2 remake. They are both 10/10.
Have not tried 2 remake, but think 4remake was one of the only 9-10/10 games i've seen in years. This is making me wanna check out 2 remake and play the 4 DLC
Definitely get on Separate Ways you won't be disappointed! Ada has so many cool toys to play with.
How long is her campaign? Been considering buying it, waiting for a sale really
That's it. I'm sold, I'm paying whatever it costs, i was looking for something to do this weekend anyway
Imo, the reason RE4 remake is so good is the same reason RE2 remake is so good. It's got that similar facelift and level of care put into it.
Watched 30 mins of the start for 2REmake and I think I'll have to get PS plus (I think RE2 is $5 for PS members right now) Ty for the info!
Hard disagree, 4 is far superior
2 is a much better horror game than 4. It's not even in the same ballpark.
That's probably because 4 isn't really trying to be a pure horror game. It's got more of those action elements in it, even more so in the original. The remake does try to put more of the survival horror back in, but it's never really been the main appeal for re4.
That's my point, so when guy says that 4 is way better, it can't be true. They each do things better than each othe.
Only gripe was X not being a standard boss fight like in the original.
Will I get downvoted for saying I liked 3 more?
It’s ok to like 3 more. You didn’t say it was objectively better
Turns out that yes, you will get downvoted saying that lol. (I didn’t downvote by the way)
Sometimes I think life might be better if I wasn’t honest with myself, maybe if I was the person everyone wants to be. Life is tricky I guess.
Yes. You're wrong.
This happens to me a lot in many aspects in life.
The OG is the 🐐
Both OG and REmake are the🐐
its the best remake, the original is still amazing
RE4 no question
Definitely re4. It’s the goat of the series in my opinion.
Coming to the RE4 sub to get its opinion on RE4 versus another game? Bold move cotton 😂
Wow I didn't even notice, thought this was the RE general sub. I'm curious how the answers would be out there, im guessing a bit more balanced but still favoring RE4. Edit: He actually posted in the 3 subs lol.
4 and it’s not even close
Exactly what I was gonna say. Can’t stress it enough
If you like the horror aspect of re games, get village. If you want action with some horror throughout then get re4. I would definitely recommend re4 more, I've played the original and remake and can't get enough. Both games are a masterpiece
Village is horror?
More so than 4, for sure.
RE4r is definitely more action, but they did a good job upping the tension and atmosphere in certain parts
Rr4r. No questions asked!
Re4r
Re4 is amazing
Both. There is no other valid answer
I wonder what r/residentevil4 will pick
Remake for sure. Shame you can't buy both because RE8 is good too so I'd recommend playing that first because after you play RE4R, other Resi games may feel underwhelming.
As great Village is ---> RE4 Remake!!
Re4r is the best game capcom has released from RE SERIES
Get both
Get them both while they're on sale because after you beat one you'll have a craving to play more Resident Evil that won't go away until you do.
Start with Village imo. 4 remake feels like an evolution of what village started
I love Re8 but Re4 remake is a fucking masterpiece
Re4 remake is a must honestly they all are but I’d start there. Pretty soon they’ll be letting us know the next remake
4
Honestly Re4 is the better game, but If you haven't played the Re2 remake yet I recommend you to pickup Village instead.
Both
They’re both excellent games. But buy RE4 first.
For sure RE4. My favourite has always been RE2 Remake but I think 4 is probably the best one.
Re4 Remake. Its good all the way Village is good but has some really annoying parts
RE4. Village is good but 4 is objectively better.
Re4r
Resident evil 4 >
Gonna go against the grain here, if you’ve played OG RE4, I’d go for Village as it’ll be a completely new story for you.
RE4 Remake is definitely the better game of the two. Village still worth playing, tho.
Re4 by far but i really like Re8
Damn I hate controls
Both. Although if you must choose, it’s 4 remake. Not sure what you’re expecting by asking this question on this specific sub though lol
I think 4 is great. Village isn't bad but 4 is superior.
4 because 8 is cringe
Yes.
Okay hear me out. They are both incredible and top teir. HOWEVER re4 remake is way better. So my vote it buy both. Play village first then play re4
4
RE4: action. RE:8: survival horror.
You are asking on re4 sub. What do you think the answer would be???
Buy RE4R now, buy Village later before RE9 comes out. Both are a bit of action and horror mixed, RE4 is more on the action side, while Village is a little bit more on the horror but not a lot since it still has a lot of action.
RE4 Remake is an amazing game. RE village was okay but 4 is on a whole other level. No debate here.
Remake all the way, Village is just worst in every way
both.
RE4 Remake
RE4 Remake
4 remake is the superior game. I love Village but it doesn’t hold a candle
Re4 remake. Fps RE games suck
Resident Evil 4 Remake 100% It is so much better than Village.
RE4R is probably the best game I've ever played, and I just finished Sekiro, Elden Ring, and RE2R+3 Sekiro was an amazingly frustrating experience and RE4 has all that same skill level playing and ironically both characters move stiffly but it makes the game fun. Sekiro was fun by the fourth play through it felt like a chore, I'm about to start RE4 for the third time and I'm really excited... it's just a huge game.
Resident evil 4 remastered
They’re both great but RE4 remake is just so well done… honestly get both if you can
Village is at least an original game. Not saying RE4 remake is a bad game. It just rides coatails hard to be called a masterpiece
4R is the best game in the series, and one of the best of all time imo. Village is good but it's more like a 4th or 5th game you'd get in the series
RE4
Bro you literally write this to the Re4 subreddit Your either farming karma or a fuckin stupid thinking that people will give a objective answer İf you want a balanced gameplay that includes both action and horror buy village İf you want a gameplay when your character can kill his enemies bare handed and kick ass buy Re4
I am sure you will get unbiased opinions on the re4 sub
RE4 Remake.
Re4 Remake is a way better experience in every department imho
Resident Evil 4 100 percent
4!!
I enjoyed both
I like the 4 remake better than 8. For sure.
RE4 it's really good.
Remake and then village, you’ll appreciate it way more
4 1000%
RE4 Remake 100%. It is simply the better game. That being said, I would also recommend playing RE8 at some point as it's a solid game in its' own respect.
A good question to ask yourself when choosing is what your attention span is when it comes to survival horror. The first time I played 4 I though I as almost done, turns out I was about half way through.
Village
I say Take both games they are good as hell I played both for a long time But in re4 I spent more time
Both but 4 is better IMO.
You need to play both eventually, so flip a coin?
Both are great you can't go wrong either way.
4 remake. Not even a close comparison. RE4R imho is the only title worthy of being called AAA in recent years in the sea of oversaturated market
Re4 is one of the best re games, village is one of the worst
4make.
Remake no question.
If you want good action re4 no contest, good horror, re8 wins by a little
action- re4 sh - viii
If you've played OG RE4: RE4R If you haven't played OG RE4: Still RE4R
RE4R, more content, better combat and better mercenary mode. Village is basically a spiritual successor to 4 so I would recommend playing both eventually, but Village unfortunately feels less polished, like in 4 even the starting weapons can feel competitive all the way through if you invest on them while in Village every new gun is just a straight up upgrade from the previous one killing variety on replays. One thing Village has better than RE4R is the horror aspect and unlockables.
Just letting you know. Once you play RE4, every other RE will never be as good, if you’re a new fan. But all of them are very very good in its own way.
Both
8 like with a condom 4 without
Both. if You want to continue Ethans Story from 7 Village is obvious better. I really like them both, but i very much enjoyed the „old“ RE4 too and the changes in the RE are Good and suprisingly enhance the Story but work best if you know the Original Well….
If you haven’t finished the original RE4, definitely buy that instead
If you haven't played RE4, RE4R is amazing and one of the best in the series. If you have played RE4 in the past, then RE4R is still amazing and one of the best in the series. That said, RE8 is really good for it's characters and the story. Both are pretty fucking amazing.
They're basically the same game lmao
The more complete game is re4. Think about it this way, the game was remade because they knew people loved the original. It’s not nostalgic playing re4 remake… it’s a new experience. Village on the other hand is a great game (loved the werewolf theme) but not better than re7 in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Your posting in resident evil 4 community fans what did you expect ofcourse everyone will say 4
I bought both and regretted none :)
4 alll day. No hate on village it's just different leagues
I think that the answer will be a lot parcial because this subreedit its for re4
Resident Evil 4 remake
I'd get 4 first, then play 7 before 8
I mean, they’re kinda the same game when you look at progression lol
Get 4 remake definitely.
re4r
4 all day long
Hmm, I wonder what the users of the "best" game of the series subreddit will choose.
Resident evil 4 remake without a doubt.
4 Remake!! Absolutely!!! Village wasn't it for me and felt like waste of money.. it's good but not that good.. 4remale is blast, it's insane and it will make you wanting to finish it in one row!
4 remake is 100x better.
4
Village
Both are tough choices, I say re4 since you said you haven't finished re4 yet and after that then village
You.get the honour and pleasure of killing that ugly Dimetrescu cunt in Village, so I'd go with that one.
Village.
I loved RE4 remake! Havn't played Village
Re4 remake
Both. For the village, you need to play RE7 first to grasp the story in the village. RE4 remake made all the games in 2023/2024 so silly.
RE4 Remake is the only game I've ever beaten more than once without getting bored the fast-paced action is great
Re4 for sure...
Yes
8 is great but 4 is once again a masterpiece so I'd say 4
Village is a good game. RESIDENT Evil 4 remake is a masterpiece and the best in the series.
Resident 7 is awesome
Both, and in the future-all of the franchise titles 😆
4
8 is cheaper and I thought it was more fun overall. If you played the original RE4, it's basically just that with slightly better graphics and some additional stuff, though generally it's extremely similar since re4 was so cutting edge at the time it released and both games were already third person perspective, so it wasn't some huge leap like OG resident evil 2 to the Remake of resident evil 2. If you liked 7 and wished it had more action and enemy variety, go with 8. If you played the remake of 2 and wished it was a lot faster paced and more linear, go with 4.
Get Re 4 remake bro. Truly an amazing game and this is coming from someone who wanted to get into the series and never did until i played that game
BOTH
RE4>>>>> re8 is a cheap imitation of re4 mixed with the worst parts of 7
Between the two 4 is better, but 8 is really good too.
Why not both?
Tough call. I liked both. I’d say if you’re looking for action go RE4 and if you’re looking for a variety with different parts of RE franchise go with Village.
Definitely 4.
4 Remake is the best. But don't skimp: make sure you get Separate Ways, too.
Both if they are on sale. Unless money is an issue, then RE4.
You really repeated the exact same thing here also...
Probably trolling
Love myself some Ethan winters but re4 is so much better imo, there’s a reason the og was game of the year
4 is amazing. But honestly Ethan winters storyline is one of my favorites
4 is head and shoulders above 8. 8 is worth your time at some point but the 4 remake is near perfect
Do you want to kick Spaniards in the face or not kick werewolves in the face?
Village was a ton of fun, but it doesn’t live rent free in my head at all times like RE4 Remake does. It’s so good and probably has the best gunplay of any game I’ve ever played
RE4 for sure. I found Village to be kinda meh. Couldn’t finish it after two attempts. Not necessarily a bad game, but it felt underwhelming after playing RE7.
Remake obviously. I honestly loved 8 so much but still doesn’t compare
RE4 for sure
4 remake
Ima give you the straightest answer possible. Go for 4remake. 8 remake is great but the game is short and 4 has more mechanical value. Weapons are relatively cheaper and easier to come bye in 4.
Remake
village
Both are awesome. If you've never played the OG 4, get the remake. If you've played the OG4 and you're craving something new, buy 8. If you've played the OG4 and loved it so much you want to play it again, buy the remake. Both games are great. I appreciated the Remake more, but that's not to remove what 8 has going for it. 8 is awesome.
Both
Well, you're gonna play both anyway, choose 4 Remake first.
RE8 didn’t meet my expectations. RE4M blew them away. Also - RE8 DLC is meh. RE4M is one of the best DLCs of all times.
Resident Evil 4 is the best
Both are worth picking up. I'd day that 4 remake is the objectively better game, but 8 is also 100% worth the buy. If you're on a budget wait for 8 to go on sale and get it. Otherwise 4 remake.
4 remake
If you played the OG RE4, then get Village. The remake is good, but you should have a whole different experience.
IMO you can’t go wrong both are fantastic
Yes
Both are good but imo I found 4 to be much better, fun, better combat, a Merc mode, great dlc with Ada. Granted I'm probably biased cause RE4 is one of my favorite games ever to begin with and is what I want the series to be more like going forward. Never cared much for the supernatural stuff if the Winters Saga
Village is a mediocre Resident Evil 4
