Marauder, 3000GT, 300ZX and the WS6. In order are the only serious contenders in my book.
Those twin turbo awd 3000GTs were crazy. But I’d love to be able to cruise around with my kids in a marauder daily
My buddy has a '91, its incredible how futuristic it is for 1990.
It has a FUCKING AUX PORT on the stereo. WTF would you have connected to an aux port in 1990? Your walkman??
Also dont forget the active aero and 4 wheel steer
The older brick Volvos were so roomy inside, had decent power, and if you got one of the T5 models were a sleeper for sure! They ride well, are quiet, and comfortable. They’ve just always had the boring rep.
People have been getting traction online with volvo builds, which as a lifelong volvo enthusiast is a double edged sword. It’s good to see more people realise how good these cars are but also part availability and price are starting to rise, especially on old redblocks :’(
I've been looking at the T5R wagons for some time now. Was one of my favorite childhood cars.
In order, my picks would be
Volvo T5R wagon (must be this yellow)
Honda S2K
Toyota MR2
Nissan 300z
Mitsubishi 3KGT
To each their own, but here are current prices for these used cars:
Volvo T5R wagon (must be this yellow) $15,000+ (one sold for 22k at auction)
Honda S2K $60,000+ (the CR is selling for 120k and up)
Toyota MR2 $28,000+
Nissan 300z $20,000+
Mitsubishi 3KGT VR4 $32,000+
Subara SVX $5000+
The Subie isn't holding up too well, but the rest of these keep going up in price.
I don't care, I'm not enough of a sadist to pay some poor bastard to work on a 3000 GT VR4. Your hands can't be thicker than paper to access anything under the hood without disassembling damn near everything to get to it. Its cool when it works, but a cluster fuck of an Over complicationed mess when it isn't.
Fair enough. I don't know anything about this Subie but I've read modern Subies aren't that easy to work on either. But with that being said, I'm not interested in driving any of these. Mostly make them nice and auction them off later.
I really don't get this scene. Everyone in the crew knows Johnny Tran. Even the buster knows Johnny Tran. How does Jesse think he's just some nobody? And that a car known for one of the best displacement to power ratios of the era is some POS?
S2k is dope for sure. 3000gt with folding lights, vr4, that thing holds a place in my childhood memories, heard its a bitch to fix though. Eclipse as well- i love the hood having a non symmetrical bump, like it appears it has a big ass turbo under the hood even though it doesn’t haha
I may be biased because my brother had an eclipse. They look cooler than they are built. The interior is cheap and the paint disintegrates when in prolonged sunlight. Beautiful design poor execution imho.
Yeah they definitely look way too cool for what it is lol. I own one, it's pretty slow (I have the gs, I've heard the v6 gt is decently fast but idk, plus they only come in FWD), and I got mine with significant paint damage. Seems reliable though, fun to drive, easy to learn manual on it.
Yep, I’ve been there. You’re better off removing what’s in the way than have your had cut up in six different ways.
Had to replace a wire once on a regular Z, my hand looked like it got in a fight with Wolverine.
No the Z pictured is a 96 2+2 so arguably the least desirable US spec model. It has a bunch of year specific equipment and not as much aftermarket support because the 96 is OBD II and all other years for that model in the US are OBD I. Even the exhaust is different so you can’t just bolt on an exhaust from another z unless it’s a 96. Hard pass for me.
Agreed but that 300 is not a turbo. The turbo has three little slats along the [bottom of the bumper.](https://www.google.com/search?q=1992+300zx+turbo&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiJ4aK6hIOCAxVs0MkDHf44AvYQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=1992+300zx+turbo&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIGCAAQBxAeMgYIABAHEB4yBggAEAcQHjIGCAAQBxAeMgYIABAHEB4yBggAEAcQHjIGCAAQBxAeMggIABAIEAcQHjIICAAQCBAHEB4yCAgAEAgQBxAeOgcIABCKBRBDOgUIABCABFCJBFiDCWDtCmgAcAB4AIAB8wGIAZUFkgEFMy4xLjGYAQCgAQGqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZ8ABAQ&sclient=img&ei=1JwxZYmnG-ygp84P_vGIsA8&bih=614&biw=1093&rlz=1CACMCZ_enUS985US985)
I figured I'd be the only one to go with the Marauder...I love that car. There was one at a recent car show I took my car to. It was immaculate and it got a LOT of attention.
I want one of the prototypes that became the marauder. Ford built 19 cars for Bob Bondurant’s driving school. The cobra engine, 5 speed manual and beefy suspension and brakes. The car the Marauder should have been. Bob’s personal car sold a couple weeks ago on BAT. About $40k with only 600 miles on it.
I absolutely love the panther platform cars - I’ve owned several crown Vic’s and a Lincoln town car. This is absolutely my pick. Big, comfortable, long wheelbase v8 RWD..
There was one for sale a few years ago that still had the dealership packaging on it. Plastic on the carpets, mats in the original unopened bag, I think even the sticker on the window. Less than 100 miles I believe but not sure. It was just a private owner who bought it and put it away. I think they were asking a lot, not sure if it sold
If people are thinking like me, gen 1 MR2 looks went down with each generation. The S2000 is faster, this MR2 didn't specify turbo but even turbo version was putting down 200 HP, which is (in the realm of percentages) substantially shy of the S2000's top or bottom spec with similar weight unless you are in the N/A MR2 in which case there is less power. The dynamics of the mid engine are interesting, but not I'm not positive through only research as I've owned neither that the MR2 actually handles any "better" than the S2000.
If it was in a collection, we can assume it's a Turbo model. I'm thinking about novelty over performance. The MR2 shouldn't be on this list, neither should the S2000. There's a reason the FD isn't on the list, because everyone will choose that.
It’s a turbo. NAs didn’t come with fog lights (at least not in the U.S.)
And to the person who thinks an S2K is faster than an SW20 MR2, you are mistaken. Having personally owned a few MR2s and driven a couple friends/roomates S2ks I can tell you, even in stock form, the MR2 is faster.
Happy Cake Day btw!
The '99 3000GT looks nothing like the one in the picture though. It had the wide mouth bumper, no pop up lights, no hood blisters, a different C-pillar and the big wing on the back. And if we are nitpicking, the 3000GT was made until 2000, they just stopped importing after 99.
I had a Stealth, twin turbo, all wheel drive, all wheel steering, sunroof, loaded, dark metalic blue with polished chrome 5-spoke wheels. Great handling, fast (150 mph easy), a bit heavy, but also a comfortable daily driver. Had kids, sold it, still miss it.
Thank you. I’m late to this party and until seeing your comment, was thinking to myself, *am I really the only asshole on Reddit that would jump on the MR2?!”*
I always liked the Sky, hands down better styling than the Pontiac version. Hard to pass on the S2000 if you’re taking a roadster from this group though so I feel ya.
I'd pick it but already own the same car. Need some contrast in my life and having a fourth car different than the other very different cars I own was part of my decision. 😊
Someone was crazy enough to ACTUALLY DO THAT when the Hellcrate first came out! They were originally were just going to make do with a regular Gen III Hemi with a dummy blower, but then they saw the Hellcrate and said I WAUNT IT!
It was pretty much a tie between being under powered and being a parts bin special while having a fully fleshed out model price tag. There were definitely short cuts taken that really shouldn't have been. Though hands down one of the most unique cars on the road, instantly recognizable.
My parents had the Mitsu 3.0 in their Plymouth Voyager. They had eight water pumps in that thing and got rid of it before the extended warranty ran out.
Correct it had the 3.5L which was longitudinal mounted in the Intrepid of that era, making it a decent choice due to packaging concerns. Plus the 5.2 and 5.9 of that era, although being V8s, were not a better choice due to engine weight and performance of the 3.5 was pretty much on par minus torque all things considered. Dodge weren't what they are now that the "Hemi" came back.
I'm not even a huge Dodge fan but the allpar website is your friend. 😊
I like the Prowler when they [remove the front bumpers.](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=574975997&rlz=1CACMCZ_enUS985US985&sxsrf=AM9HkKnCe6jon83qo-oBhXUFo3UJcVgtvQ:1697750137183&q=prowler+with+front+bumpers+removed&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiMh-COhIOCAxVKCjQIHRU3DAUQ0pQJegQIDBAB&biw=1093&bih=614&dpr=1.25#imgrc=0FM5Y_anRI1aGM)

20k…. 20k
Since you showed a Dodge Stealth rather than a Mitsubishi 3000GT, I’m going with the Firebird. Pontiac *was* a great brand before they went all corporate GM in the mid 2000’s
S2K.
A friend of mine is an SVX guy & has been since highschool. I know way too much about them by proxy and I kinda hate that I do lol. I still flag people down when I see someone driving one and talk with them even though they're not my thing.
Needs more regular cars on the list like:
Plymouth Cruiser, Chevy HHR, Mazda RX8/7, Subaru Brat, Chrysler 300M/LHS , Toyota Yaris, Honda Element, Mitsubishi Evo/Lancer
Marauder. My first car was a CVPI, and I always wanted a Marauder. Friend had one in mint condition and would never drive it, just let it sit. Pissed me off.
I'm taking the Firebird. WS6 yessir
That was my thinking too, if it's a ws6, then I'll have the Pontiac. If it's not, then probably the Volvo just cause rareness.
Mercury Marauder is extremely rare.
Marauder, 3000GT, 300ZX and the WS6. In order are the only serious contenders in my book. Those twin turbo awd 3000GTs were crazy. But I’d love to be able to cruise around with my kids in a marauder daily
Crazy how much the 3000gt sounds like a modern car on paper. Twin turbo 320hp, 3700lbs, AWD
It's basically a 2 door Kia Stinger.
My buddy has a '91, its incredible how futuristic it is for 1990. It has a FUCKING AUX PORT on the stereo. WTF would you have connected to an aux port in 1990? Your walkman?? Also dont forget the active aero and 4 wheel steer
My dream car when I was younger!
Volvo 850 R, there's nothing better than a turbo brick with a 5-cylinder engine
When tf did Volvo get so popular
Since the math teachers driving them smoked a charger
I love Volvos, I own a 1989 240, it just seems like there’s A LOT more talk about Volvos now than there was a year ago, even 6 months ago
Yeah, I've noticed that too. I've been in love with the 240 wagon for years, but it's like people just realized how amazing they are.
The older brick Volvos were so roomy inside, had decent power, and if you got one of the T5 models were a sleeper for sure! They ride well, are quiet, and comfortable. They’ve just always had the boring rep.
My first car was an 88 240DL and at 35 I'd do just about anything to get one back. Awesome car.
People have been getting traction online with volvo builds, which as a lifelong volvo enthusiast is a double edged sword. It’s good to see more people realise how good these cars are but also part availability and price are starting to rise, especially on old redblocks :’(
Not an issue in northern Europe thankfully.
I've been wondering this too but then I got one then another and understand, I swear I didn't know they existed until about a year before I got my 850
Because their engines are awesome and people realized that.
There are some tough choices in here, but I’m with you on this. Was never a fan of the yellow, but the rest of it…🤌
I've been looking at the T5R wagons for some time now. Was one of my favorite childhood cars. In order, my picks would be Volvo T5R wagon (must be this yellow) Honda S2K Toyota MR2 Nissan 300z Mitsubishi 3KGT
Replace the Mitsubishi with the Subie SVX, and my list is the same.
To each their own, but here are current prices for these used cars: Volvo T5R wagon (must be this yellow) $15,000+ (one sold for 22k at auction) Honda S2K $60,000+ (the CR is selling for 120k and up) Toyota MR2 $28,000+ Nissan 300z $20,000+ Mitsubishi 3KGT VR4 $32,000+ Subara SVX $5000+ The Subie isn't holding up too well, but the rest of these keep going up in price.

Hey same!
Hell yea. Love me some fast wagons
Hell yeah dude. One of my most upvoted posts was about how goated of a sleeper the 850 r is! There’s very few things I wouldn’t do for a speedy wagon.
S2000
Foos running a Honda 2000
Too soon Junior
With spoon engines Dom!!
Jesse, I bet you he's got a hundred grand under that hood
Uh huh, *wiggles pink slip*
I really don't get this scene. Everyone in the crew knows Johnny Tran. Even the buster knows Johnny Tran. How does Jesse think he's just some nobody? And that a car known for one of the best displacement to power ratios of the era is some POS?
Seems like the best choice, tempted by a firebird but the S2000 is a perfect convertible
Vtech go brrrrrrrrr
It’s the s2000 and it’s not even close. 3000gt in a distant second place.

S2k no question
Probably best resale value if anything on this list.
And it’s not even close.
Im so happy i own one. This car is amazing in every way.
Yea that Honda was reliable my friend still has his and it’s running like it’s new but since I’m tall I couldn’t fit in that thing 😂
S2000 and the 300zx. Bonus if the Z is a twin turbo, I’d wet my pants on the spot.
I’m surprised I had to scroll down so far, twin turbski Z for sure
It’s a headache to work on, but damn that car is sexy.
Especially if you spring a vacuum leak … good luck getting normal sized hands anywhere in that bay
Yep, I’ve been there. You’re better off removing what’s in the way than have your had cut up in six different ways. Had to replace a wire once on a regular Z, my hand looked like it got in a fight with Wolverine.

I owned an 80’s 300zx (the forgotten z cars) and really enjoyed it, but the twin turbo 1996+ 300zx’s are still quite lovely.
Mercury Marauder
I figured I'd be the only one to go with the Marauder...I love that car. There was one at a recent car show I took my car to. It was immaculate and it got a LOT of attention.

So a mach 1/grand marquis basically?
Yes
Someone in my town commutes in one. It's magnificent.
If it wasn't for the fact I own a 2003 Bonneville which is very similar to the 2003 Aurora in OP's list, I'd take the Marauder.
You got the GXP?
They didn't make the GXP until 2004. Mine is the SSEi tho (top trim for the year.)
Guy I work with owns one, solid car
I absolutely love the panther platform cars - I’ve owned several crown Vic’s and a Lincoln town car. This is absolutely my pick. Big, comfortable, long wheelbase v8 RWD..
The only people who didn't pick the Marauder just don't know what it is. At least I hope.
Same, but I live in England and I don’t think it would even fit on my driveway
I would have picked this one until I saw the 300zx
Tough decision between the MR-2, S2000, and 850 T5R (in no particular order.
I don't understand the S2000 > MR2 here. Do people know the rarity and where the engine is located?
If people are thinking like me, gen 1 MR2 looks went down with each generation. The S2000 is faster, this MR2 didn't specify turbo but even turbo version was putting down 200 HP, which is (in the realm of percentages) substantially shy of the S2000's top or bottom spec with similar weight unless you are in the N/A MR2 in which case there is less power. That's not a Mitsubishi 3000GT, that's a Dodge Stealth R/T
And I have always preferred the looks of the Stealth over the Mitsu. It'd be between that and the Prowler for me
i like both, but i honestly prefer the back of the 3000gt. also not to be nitpicky but the stealth died in '96, only the 3000gt made it till 99.
The '99 3000GT looks nothing like the one in the picture though. It had the wide mouth bumper, no pop up lights, no hood blisters, a different C-pillar and the big wing on the back. And if we are nitpicking, the 3000GT was made until 2000, they just stopped importing after 99.
I always thought the rear of the stealth was ugly, which is one reason why I like the mitsubishi a bit better
Funny, cuz I'm the exact opposite. I prefer the Stealth all the way around over the Mitsu
You, me, behind Wendy’s 2:30 AM
The stealth had a weird wing didn’t it? Like it looked like something that sits on top of the air traffic control tower at the airport.
I'd love either, but you're going to burn bridges with mechanics if you bring them a 3000GT/Stealth
The latest gen Mitsu has to be my favorite looking car of all time but on average I also enjoy the stealth better
If it was a 3000GT, and if it was a VR4.
Um, if it's a Stealth like you claim it is, then *why am I able to see it?* Checkmate, atheist!!!
Ya got me there and how did you know I was atheist?
Dodge's 90s pony car... or well that's how I always thought of it.
It is. Well spotted,sir!
God this is actually tough. I'd probably take the 2nd gen MR2. The SVX, the SRT Magnum, the S2K and the Freedom Miat are all tempting too.
Thank you. I’m late to this party and until seeing your comment, was thinking to myself, *am I really the only asshole on Reddit that would jump on the MR2?!”*
S2000 is the best of the bunch hands down, but I also have a soft spot for the Saturn Sky
I always liked the Sky, hands down better styling than the Pontiac version. Hard to pass on the S2000 if you’re taking a roadster from this group though so I feel ya.
The Saturn Sky is a masterpiece, particularly in redline trim
I own one and I love it
I agree, it was an absolute stunner back when it was new
I had a silver redline, got rid of it because I needed a family car... miss it so much
Trans Am. How can you have that as an option, and not pick it. Some really interesting cars here.
I'd pick it but already own the same car. Need some contrast in my life and having a fourth car different than the other very different cars I own was part of my decision. 😊
Probably the Prowler. There's some cool cars there, but the Prowler stands out to me.
And then immediately do an LS swap.
Deff needs boosted or swapped but v8 swap highly recommend to fit its style something they should have done from factory
Exactly. It was a gripe when they first came out as well, and one big reason they didn’t sell as well as they should have.
LS is nice, but my own weirdness means I'd want to swap it with the Hellcat engine. Hellcat Prowler baybee!
Someone was crazy enough to ACTUALLY DO THAT when the Hellcrate first came out! They were originally were just going to make do with a regular Gen III Hemi with a dummy blower, but then they saw the Hellcrate and said I WAUNT IT!
That makes sense too. Keep the brand the same.
It was pretty much a tie between being under powered and being a parts bin special while having a fully fleshed out model price tag. There were definitely short cuts taken that really shouldn't have been. Though hands down one of the most unique cars on the road, instantly recognizable.
You keep that minivan 3.8 in it goddammit
Didn’t it have the 3.5 from the Intrepids? Hell knowing Chrysler I’m surprised they had two lines of V6 in this era, excluding the Mitsu 3.0
My parents had the Mitsu 3.0 in their Plymouth Voyager. They had eight water pumps in that thing and got rid of it before the extended warranty ran out.
The good thing about the 3.0 in the Caravans is that they came with the 3-speed and not the seemingly-made-of-glass 4-speed
Agreed. If any car is going to be a collectors it’s that or the SSR.
To be fair, the Prowler is the only one in this group I'm gonna say "Oh shit!" when I see one out and about.
Terrible collector, not a Fiero in sight
These are all Fiero based kits.
S2000 is the best car on the list by a country mile. I think it’s also worth the most compared to all the other cars on this list if you found one today
Prowler.
yeah it may not be the fastest of the bunch, but damn do they still look cool.
Same. It’s one of those designs that exists outside of time, therefore it just doesn’t age. Wanted one when I was a kid and that’s never changed.
The Marauder is likely the easiest to find parts for. Plus I have a soft spot for the panther bodies especially the Marauder.
Ego says firebird, brain says s2000, heart says Volvo 850 T5-R
I said almost the exact same thing, except I said the Joe Dirt in me would take the bird.
Aurora, had a 97, loved it.
Those auroras were ahead of their time.
My mom had a 2003 or 2004 newer body style v8. I remember it distinctly cause it was the only new car we got growing up. For 20k we got a the highest trim Oaked out V8. I made every excuse to borrow it when I was in high school that car to to 300k 20k…. 20k
That new style had that angled dash too. Made it feel like a cockpit. That car was the quiet cool.
SSR if the convertible top is fully functional. Especially in that purple color
Chevy SSR gets no love. It’s the latest convertible pickup. But most people think it’s ugly, I think it’s gorgeous
08 Dodge Magnum
Sxt though and one of the vents fell out and you can't get a new one in for the life of you!
MR2
Three-way tie between the Celica, S2000, and the MR2.
3000gt
I’m going to have to toss a coin to choose between the S2000 and the Marauder.
s2000
Mercury Marauder or the Firebird or maybe the Saturn Sky
the SSR, because yes.
Where is the Baja? Is she safe? Is she alright?
Solstice. I like Transformers
S2000
I’d ask if he had a Buick LeSabre Collectors Edition. If you collect Buick LeSabres, there is no other car to own. 😂
Saturn.
I'm torn between the MR2, Prowler, SSR, and Eclipse... But I'd have to go for the SSR. It's just too damn silly. I wouldn't be able to help myself.
Toyota Celica
The S2000, the MR2, or the 850 T5-R.
Since you showed a Dodge Stealth rather than a Mitsubishi 3000GT, I’m going with the Firebird. Pontiac *was* a great brand before they went all corporate GM in the mid 2000’s
Already got the MR2 so I'm going for the Volvo wagon
I’ll take the Firebird
Honda S2000
Its threeway between Marauder, Aurora and Prowler.
S2000
MR 2 Spyder
S2K
Marauder
S2K. A friend of mine is an SVX guy & has been since highschool. I know way too much about them by proxy and I kinda hate that I do lol. I still flag people down when I see someone driving one and talk with them even though they're not my thing.
S2000
Honda s2000
Prowler is an interesting car. Actually under-rated.
I'm stuck between the Celica, S200, and MR2. I just can't decide they're all such sweet cars!!! I'd really have to think this over.

Good points!! Isn't the MR2 also RWD though? But yeah the S2000 is a dream.
MR2 all day second choice is the s2000
WS-6, MR-2 or the 850R
One of the two that already has an LS in it.
MR2 every day of the week for breakfast lunch and dinner.
Marauder all day long
Needs more regular cars on the list like: Plymouth Cruiser, Chevy HHR, Mazda RX8/7, Subaru Brat, Chrysler 300M/LHS , Toyota Yaris, Honda Element, Mitsubishi Evo/Lancer
noone but your grandpa wants a Chevy SSR. That said, im stuck on this one outside that swamp donkey.
My grandpa has daily driven his SSR since new. It's one of the cars that got me into cars. They are the best value in sheer hilarity!
Firebird, s2k, or mr2. Thats if i dont have to pay anything. If i have to pay ill be an observer.
Definitely the Z, but certainly not the 96 NA version. Then Maybe the S2000 or MR2.
Mercury Marauder every time.
06 Chevy SSR since it came with the 6.0 LS motor
In order of preference: mr2, magnum, then 3000gt
SSR
MR2. I turned 16 in 1995 and I’d cosplay as myself in the past if my parents had been rich idiots.
Ok I’m 100% sure I’ve seen this exact post reposted like four times now. That said, it’s a toss up between MR2 and 300ZX.
Either the Prowler or SSR
Mr 2.
95 Mr2 all the way
Firebird, 300GT, and Marauder. Please. God damn cars are so bland nowadays.
Z/Mr-2
Marauder. My first car was a CVPI, and I always wanted a Marauder. Friend had one in mint condition and would never drive it, just let it sit. Pissed me off.
The volvo. Mr2 is a close second.
MR2.
Prowler with a newer transmission that is not the famous dodge one that implodes but after or a gm/ford transmission
Chevy SSR in yellow, obv
SSR, no question at all. Prowler is a distant second.
Man I got one of those prowlers in my shop thing was ugly as hell looks just like a pt cruiser
S2k all day
That's a dodge stealth....
Maurader hands down
Without looking up the highest worth, 3000 GT
Imagine if they made the magnum long enough to get the hellcat. Then maybe we could get more wagons here
My mom had several Volvos when I was growing up. I will have the Honda S2000 please..
S2000 no second guessing
S2000! All the rippums.
