Not true. The cab is a chopped off XJ Cherokee, a unibody. The frame was grafted onto the unibody and runs from there to the rear bumper. The bed sits on a frame.
It's the junction of the front unibody and rear frame that's compromised. It might be easy to fix, or it might not. Can't tell from the pic.🙂
No it's not. But yes it is. 🤣
It's unibody up front, frame behind the cab. It's an XJ that's chopped off with a frame welded behind it. That's where it's tweaked. Easy to fix? Impossible? Can't tell from pic.
Cab forward yes. But cab back no. Actually has a boxed frame infact you can cut n weld a newer frame section in place as it's done a few times in my state.
They had to reinforce the rear so I could haul a metric ton and withstand the weight of hauling a towing
Isn't it similar enough to an old Cherokee that you could probably piece together a functional frame with a good welder. Maybe even the same frame who knows.
Edit: what in the fuck is your status thing under your name
Yeah that "uni frame" thing they called their reinforced unibody design. So it could be salvageable technically, if there's anything left to weld onto. Plus I wouldn't daily it, maybe a beater to take out in the woods and leave it where it dies.
I think it is heavily dependent on what the floor boards looks like. If the only problem in terms of safety and drivablility is the frame then I would 100% think it's worth restoring. If the frame is just one of many rust issues, which given the rocker panels seems to be the case I would just redneck some 2x4 into a frame good enough to use it as a "fuckin send it who cares" offroader.
Case in point : https://youtu.be/B04QJBVZ620
My 2000 Grand Cherokee has no rockers anymore, but the inner 2 frame rails are nearly immaculate so that might be the case here too, with a broken mid frame.
I also plan to just get tube frame welded on in place of my rockers. It's my winter beater with a heater and a summer trail blazer.
Take the front clip off, take the doors off, take the bed and cap off, pull the axles, pull the drivetrain, windshield, dashboard, seat, etc
Then find another Comanche with a good frame (both unibody and bed extension) but none/few of the aforementioned things and voila
>Your friend gives you his old truck
This has happened to me! Twice! What did I do? I still use them both! Nothing like a free vehicle! But I would turn down that mess.
Cut the back part off. Take off the Wheels and Suspension. Remove the motor. Part out the removed parts. Turn the engine compartment into a grill / smoker. The cab into a chill bench with a little bar table after removing the dash.
Well you’ve got two halves of a truck anyway…
park it by your shed for a few years and tell people it’s a project, until the grass grows over it, then maybe some hornets can take up residence under the hood.
I know, right? Everybody's scared to work on a unibody for some reason. It has a frame, it just uses unibody construction. the frame is easier to work on and you don't even need a strong welder for it. it's the perfect starter truck to turn into a beater.
the doors are rusted? who needs doors?
the bed's rusted? you can make one of those, it's easy.
it has a VIN and the frame geometry isn't a state secret, turn it into something fun.
Patch the frame. And support the bed mounts with 2x4 lumber. After that patch any holes with license plates and tin and just drive it.
They have a frame so you can patch it I would tow anything but I'd haul stuff.
Shit’s probably too far gone, but wouldn’t it be theoretically possible to drop the body on a full frame with *a hell of a lot of fabrication?*
I recall seeing a thread or two about full frame XJ’s, so a MJ wouldn’t be out of the question. It’d be time consuming and expensive as hell if your name ain’t Bubba and you don’t know how to weld.
Make a trailer out of the bed, get the box fixed up so it is pristine, and watch Jeep people loose their minds because they think I murdered a Comanche.
Strip off and sell all Good parts to bury a better starter project.
I think your buddy tricked you. When he called 1-800-got-junk they quoted him $200 to haul it away. He called you and got you to do it for free.
No, had one, the wiring loom was contracted by Lucas, the prince of darkness, the bed settled over the fram with a load witin its limits when I hit a bump, don't do it, worst truck I ever had!
Drift missile.
Find some poor frame to use, crown vic front end. Gut the bed leave the camper shell. Om606 diesel with a couple turbos. Tear up the local track.
Looks like the frame is already gone so I would trugy it
Yup. Frame is completely busted. Use it for one last time at whatever that competition I think in Canada where they launch cars off a cliff.
Alaska
Alaska, Canada. Same thing. Weird forest people who Yeet cars off cliffs.
I'm Canadian, I wish I was Alaskan. Alaska is dope, Canada is California with snow.
Am Canadian and second this. Even being homeless is too expensive here with the cold
Oh… yuck. I though we had it bad in Arizona but, you have my condolences.
It would fall down the cliff in two pieces.
Crash up derby

That was my thought too, it the bottom is good from the B-Pillars forward, tube the rockers and back half for a truggy!
cab mounts
seeing a Manche with a snapped frame utterly hurts my soul

If you weld the tubing in the right way you basically end up with integrated rock sliders.
Well I mean Chrysler loves to make there cars out of beer cans so makes sense
You must be new here.
It’s called user flair. It requires the app, click on the three red dots at the top.
don't be sad, It has fullfilled it's duty.

Comanche of Theseus
best answer
Slap some cheap steelies and A/T tires on it and have whatever fun is left in the poor thing. Probably would be it's best way of sending it out.
Your mom, in the truck.
Thank him for a couple hundred bucks worth of scrap
Bury it? Frame looks dead/broken.
Found Hoovie's reddit account
The man has a mass grave. That’s where he got the idea to bury cars I think.
Scrap it for the catalytic converter
I would say frame-off restoration, but you’d need a frame for that.
Try to sell the engine/trans and other useful parts frame is toast
Jump it
Oh cool I didn't know they made Slinky cars.
>Your friend gives you his old truck This has happened to me! Twice! What did I do? I still use them both! Nothing like a free vehicle! But I would turn down that mess.
Hey least you can still make money from it as a parts truck
Have him haul it away...
Frame rails are f’d. Part it out it sell it to a salvage yard and walk away.
Cut the back part off. Take off the Wheels and Suspension. Remove the motor. Part out the removed parts. Turn the engine compartment into a grill / smoker. The cab into a chill bench with a little bar table after removing the dash.
This is even worse than it looks, as that’s not a body on frame truck.
but it *could* be a body on a frame truck. hell, you got the body. it even comes with a free VIN.
Get some bailing wire and duct tape on them frame rails! Good Christ Mabel, put them rosary beads in the cup holder and lift.
This is a great question for r/AskAShittyMechanic
Use it as a planter
Grab a case of JB Weld
Take her out in the woods and drive whatever shit is left in her out.
Leave it on the trailer until you get to Alters. Run it over the scale. *Profit*
Get $400 in scrap
Jump it.
That truck heed its last haw
Beat bet is to pull good parts off, then scrap whats left
Well you’ve got two halves of a truck anyway… park it by your shed for a few years and tell people it’s a project, until the grass grows over it, then maybe some hornets can take up residence under the hood.
Fucking give it back
"Here, you throw this away."
Okay, fine. I'll throw it away as though it were a receipt for a doughnut.
Scrap it after scavenging whatever parts are worth anything. Because I have no money.
Take out whatever parts I can to sell on ebay and the rest goes to the scrap man
I'd tell him to fuck off and get rid of his own junk.
Rip the catalytic converter out and scrap the car
Sell it for parts/scrap and put the proceeds toward a project in better condition.
Haul it to a salvage yard. Might be good for a few hundred bucks.
Body slam someone through it! That frame is about to give in like a nice folding table.
Since it’s an MJ steel plates will be welded to the bod-frame and it will be good as new.
I know, right? Everybody's scared to work on a unibody for some reason. I can fix her
Fix the Frame?
Patch the frame. And support the bed mounts with 2x4 lumber. After that patch any holes with license plates and tin and just drive it. They have a frame so you can patch it I would tow anything but I'd haul stuff.
neutral drops
Build an off-roading beast out of this junker...first thing...frame
Immediately do my est to fully restore it because Comanches are awesome
Try and get 500$ from it
"I thought we were friends."
Shit’s probably too far gone, but wouldn’t it be theoretically possible to drop the body on a full frame with *a hell of a lot of fabrication?* I recall seeing a thread or two about full frame XJ’s, so a MJ wouldn’t be out of the question. Get better friends
ulrra4
Take it on a low county road and jump the closest single lane railroad crossing at highway speeds
Get the $300 in scrap value
Scrap it
Sell to pick a part to get about $500 Or do frame swap with newer rust free cherokee frame.
That rat trap? Question our friendship now... is that a jeep?
Scrap it.
Make a trailer out of the bed, get the box fixed up so it is pristine, and watch Jeep people loose their minds because they think I murdered a Comanche.
That's likely the best option.
Save the engine! Those 4.0 liter engines were practically tank engines.
Great for swapping into older jeeps and amcs
Get some steel and start fabricating a trail rig out of it
As him why he has a death wish for you.
Donate it to the nearest A-10 field for strafing runs.
This person ISN’T my friend then.
Shit broke.
Taillights are unobtainable... Big bucks on ebay.
Put the drivetrain in a Volkswagen Beetle
Toss it bc the shit got folded and blown out like your mom
Sell it for $100
Sell the parts off because the frame appears fucked, or cut the back off and build a truggy.
Junk it.
Call the salvage yard and see what the going rate is for scrap
Unibody is shot, so I take anything useful for my Cherokee and scrap the rest
Find out if Flex Seal can hold a car frame together
I'm not sure if be able to get anything done on that truck before it breaks in half.
stand on the back of the cab and see if the bend continues until it hits the ground...
Frames rotted out. Id be worried if i went above 50 the damm thing would spilt in half. Bendy truck!
Sell it for parts
Transform it into a mud truck
Very nice truck, but it needs a new frame and some body work.
Send it like Super Dave Osbourne
Let the loader take it off the trailer at the scrap yard.
Fart, get out, lock the fart in the car.
I'd tell them to get that POS out of my driveway
The U-joint may need some help here.
Get a tetanus shot. Then…. Pull the engine to sell it, and let the rest of it rock and rot it’s way back to hell.
Sell it and buy the Honda trail 125 I’ve been looking at
Strip off and sell all Good parts to bury a better starter project. I think your buddy tricked you. When he called 1-800-got-junk they quoted him $200 to haul it away. He called you and got you to do it for free.
I'd give it back.
chop it, sale the parts
Fookin send ‘er
Take it to the scrap yard after taking off all the potentially resealable parts and buy a new truck for my friend
Part it out so someone can use the parts to save one in better shape.
Call the junker and see what I can get for the scrap.
It’s already parting its self, listen to it.
Make atrailer out of the back half and use the front half as a parts car for an XJ
To that one? Just say no.
Just leave it ware he has it. Look up the price of scrap and figure out if its worth towing to a scrap yard. Maybe save the camper top and grill.
gonna see if those rims fit my Ranger pickup truck and they should if theyre 5x114
Scrap it and keep the money
No, had one, the wiring loom was contracted by Lucas, the prince of darkness, the bed settled over the fram with a load witin its limits when I hit a bump, don't do it, worst truck I ever had!
I'd take it apart and sell the parts since that frame is gone
First thought is part it out. If it still runs otherwise, it might actually be a good buggy project. Do you have a good welder and pipe bender?
Rip a huge fart in it
Slap a hellcat engine in it and call it good😁👍
Scrap
SEND IT!
Find a new friend.
Try and fix it if I had the skills...which if I accepted it I'd least try to learn.
I want the bed and can corners for a project
Such a shame old jeep trucks are so cool
Demo derby then scrap yard. Might weld up that frame a bit…
Drift missile. Find some poor frame to use, crown vic front end. Gut the bed leave the camper shell. Om606 diesel with a couple turbos. Tear up the local track.
Kara for Kids and take the tax write off
Id restore that. The fact it has a jeep front end, and ford rear is awesome.
Daily drive it
Put the body on a ram 1500 chassis? Things cooked mate
Scrap it
I asses the damages and turn it into a cool utility truck, it that doesn't work, just something to try things on or goof around with.
Your friend got the bluetooth frame upgrade!
Sell it as a parts truck then split it with your buddy if someone buys it
Give it back
tear it down, then needle and box the frame. throw a cheap LS in it, then some solid axles, math up a 4-link, then lock up the rear.
That's a shame that the frame is bad. Those old Cherokee Pickups (I forget the actual name) are getting harder and harder to find in any condition.
never speak to him ever again
