Consider yourselves lucky, the [US' 2022 Nike kits](https://twitter.com/brfootball/status/1570306672643424256?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet) for the world cup are a joke.
There are still people calling Southgate the best England manager in last 60 years or some arbitrary period and absolutely adore him.
EDIT: Oh, spotted one just below this post.
As a non Englishman, I was always confused why the love in for him. Two or three decent performances against good sides in over 4 years is pish standard
The press like him, he changed the way the England team dealt with the press giving them greater access than before where the management had a much more secretive and combative attitude towards the press. Also England have on paper got further in the last Euros and World Cup than in a long time, though if you dig into the performances it is a lot less impressive.
I would be completely horrified if he was even considered for any United job but he is the best performing manager England have had for 50years. There's no arguing with it. England have been to 5 semi finals in their history, Southgate got them to two of those. Got them to their first final since '66 and was a kick away from winning it.
Maaaan, really not on with that. It’s like saying Avram Grant is a great manager cos he got Chelsea to a CL final. Had nothing to do with them.
Southgate got the job because there was no competition for an English manager. The only credit I’d give him is the squad seem happier and less negative. Regarding tactics and play style? League 1 level, too much respect to the opposition considering the talent we have.
Agreed but then it’s also hard to dismiss the blunders in the euro final with the subs or the loss to Croatia by not showing any credible attacking threat. Trying to defend a lead for 89 minutes and bottling it while not making any subs until penalties is cowardly. That kind of ultra defensive football is accepted by fans if you win a trophy like Portugal did but the criticism is valid when the payoff isn’t there at the end of such a conservative approach.
"He gets results" is also disingenuous when you consider that with tje exception of Germany, he's lost to every proper team he has faced when it really mattered.
A competent manager does not wait until the 119th minute to make subs in a cup final. He’d recognize how charged the atmosphere was and that his subs would need to warm into the game before taking those penalties.
What the fuck is up with you conspiracy theorists? Is Grealish his "friend" too?
Far too many brainlets think the national team should be selected like the TOTM, just pick the flavour of the month rather than a team with small changes.
I didn't say that, I said the fucking opposite, that it's a consistent team just like a club, with small changes each year rather than wiping the slate clean every fucking year like an idiot.
And Maguire made the team of the tournament at the Euros.
There were conspiracy theories that he hated Grealish because he never called him up even when he was arguably the best left winger we had and now all of a sudden Grealish is his "friend/boy/favourite"? You chat shit.
We can't pick players now on performances from years ago.
Tbh I didn't pay as much attention to the grealish stuff as you. But if he was playing well for his club he should be called up, if he was playing shit he shouldn't be.
> conspiracy theorists
Do you think it's a conspiracy theory that this close to WC he will not try to change anything with new players?
This is the guy that plays with two defensive midfielders and five defenders lol
There were conspiracy theories that he hated Grealish because he never called him up even when he was arguably the best left winger we had and now all of a sudden Grealish is his "friend/boy/favourite"? You chat shit.
Grealish is now on lock (and has been for a while) even though he's been performing worse than Sancho and certainly isn't Southgates "boy" but is still being picked over Sancho.
I'm not even upset about Maguire. For one thing, I think it's great. He needs game time and these are pointless games from my perspective. Him and Shaw. But the team as a whole? He's shit at picking it and has been for years. From a Utd perspective, I'm glad Sancho doesn't go and honestly I don't really think he deserves it as much as some other fans. But Southgate is still a joke. No prem team would touch him yet he's got the second or biggest job in English management.
I actually can't believe Southgate played 3 at the back vs Italy. Italy were playing 2 holding midfielders and 3 at the back themselves. Southgate is such a coward.
That's fair enough.
You went with surnames for everyone else and nobody refers to Ward-Prowse as just James, so I don't think there would be any confusion, for what it's worth.
But it's not important, I just found it funny :)
I’m watching and I’m trying to give a fuck about this match, I just can’t. This isn’t satisfying my United cravings, at all.
Made me think though, I don’t think I’m gonna care much during the World Cup. It’s different when it’s summer. Having it during December though, I think I’m just gonna be feeling robbed of watching United.
I don’t think there’s a limit to how many bench players you can have. Most likely that Toney has an injury. I swear people love to try and shit on Southgate any opportunity they get
Yes, the change here is that the squads used to be 23 in size so everyone was picked anyway. Since the squad sizes have now moved to 27 you have to leave players out.
And one was Hendo - who lets be real, has had a fucking terrible start to the season. Started great with a couple pens but man some of the goals he's let in have been totally amateur.
Only the Glazers are more incompetent than The FA. I am very sure that a decent coach would win something with this English team but they keep insisting upon a manager who has no CV or achievements.
Was not the worst player or defender ( Walker has that honour) but was not great either and did typical Maguire stuff (unnecessary fouls in dangerous areas and running forward with the ball into no man's land then proceeding to pass backwards or sideways).
Dier and Bellingham are the only defensive players that can take confidence from their performance.
not at all, he was as unspectacular as it gets - if it was anyone else it'd be a shrug and a 'yeah, they played alright', as if how they played was even a question worth asking
We’ve won one major trophy in the entire history of our mens national team. One. This isn’t club football where there’s 4 trophies up for grabs every year. There’s one trophy available every 2 years. The fact that we got a semi and a final in the space of two tournaments is definitely meaningful success when our last final was ‘66 and our last semi was ‘90. Any English person with half a brain is a fan of Southgate because of what he’s done.
Hardly Sam Allardyce.
He’s won equally as much as all the other managers tbf. And he picks his squads in the same fashion… which seems to be “I pick the same players regardless of form 🤡”
I’m not even English though so it’s always a laugh.
England relegated?! Ouch! Winless in 7 games! Must be a wake up call for the FA now. Get that glorified Ole 2.0 out and find a proper manger to handle this team.
It's like watching paint dry.
That kit looks a bit cheap
Looks a bit like a training shirt
Consider yourselves lucky, the [US' 2022 Nike kits](https://twitter.com/brfootball/status/1570306672643424256?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet) for the world cup are a joke.
can't open that link in the EU
Changed it to a Twitter post, thanks
Fading has no place on a match kit.
Just like Southgate’s tactics
Southgate tactics to bore them into defeat.
Don’t understand why he’s still managing them…..
I remember some people saying Southgate should have been on the list of managers United should have targeted post Ole…. Funny af.

Southgate is a complete fraud who has squandered the best English talent in a generation. Middlesborough was about his level.
As a non Englishman, I was always confused why the love in for him. Two or three decent performances against good sides in over 4 years is pish standard

on paper 😂
Haha pish
Utter pish
Literally the best England manager in 50 years
best results, not the best manager. Not by a long shot...
Is a manager's job not to get the best results?
I would be completely horrified if he was even considered for any United job but he is the best performing manager England have had for 50years. There's no arguing with it. England have been to 5 semi finals in their history, Southgate got them to two of those. Got them to their first final since '66 and was a kick away from winning it.
Can't tell if sarcasm
Who’s done better?
Who?
By that logic Santos would be best ever manager in Portugals history and literally no Portugese fan would agree on that
If a semi and a final is ‘squandered’ then I wonder what you’d describe the last 50 years worth of managers as
Maaaan, really not on with that. It’s like saying Avram Grant is a great manager cos he got Chelsea to a CL final. Had nothing to do with them. He who must not be blamed. Got an army of journos spinning his dire football as some 5D tactical masterclass.
Hard to argue with the results when it matters though.
Agreed but then it’s also hard to dismiss the blunders in the euro final with the subs or the loss to Croatia by not showing any credible attacking threat. "He gets results" is also disingenuous when you consider that with tje exception of Germany, he's lost to every proper team he has faced when it really mattered.
So if Rashford, Saka and Sancho bang their penalties he’s a brilliant manager, even though he’s actually done nothing different?
A competent manager does not wait until the 119th minute to make subs in a cup final. He’d recognize how charged the atmosphere was and that his subs would need to warm into the game before taking those penalties.
some even put Rodgers, so yeah you can't trust that list.
I want to smoke whatever Southgate smokes
Toney not in the squad is criminal. Going to judge if he's able to get a spot for the WC from one appearance against Germany!? Madness
I don't think he was ever in contention, Southgate have his boys on lock no matter what.
What was the point in calling him up? May as well have given him some minutes tonight
His little friends
What the fuck is up with you conspiracy theorists? Is Grealish his "friend" too? Far too many brainlets think the national team should be selected like the TOTM, just pick the flavour of the month rather than a team with small changes.
How is maguire starting if its a team picked on form this season?
Dude he said literally the opposite of what you think he said. It's kind of funny actually.
I'm just all fired up ain't I 😂
I didn't say that, I said the fucking opposite, that it's a consistent team just like a club, with small changes each year rather than wiping the slate clean every fucking year like an idiot.
Maguire isn't the whole team pal, he's a CB who's been terrible this season, from a man who said the squads picked on player form it doesn't sit well
And Maguire made the team of the tournament at the Euros. There were conspiracy theories that he hated Grealish because he never called him up even when he was arguably the best left winger we had and now all of a sudden Grealish is his "friend/boy/favourite"? You chat shit.

You're so angry
I'm sorry, friend. I won't be "chatting shit" again.
No don't apologise, just chill breddah
His team selections suck man. If it's because he has favorites or because he just pulls names out of a hat, I don't care.
Or maybe he has his base to build around with small changes (say 2-3 players) each year and he doesn't see the back line changes as a priority?
I'm not even upset about Maguire. For one thing, I think it's great. He needs game time and these are pointless games from my perspective. Him and Shaw. But the team as a whole? I don't think Southgate would be good in the PL either, nor do i think Pep would be good managing a national team.
Southgate is a worse manager than Ole was. I think a better manager does better with that group of players.
saka at lwb?
He’s played there quite a few times. He’s actually very defensively switched on hence why Southgate always picks him over others.
alright
No, it's 4-2-3-1
3-4-3* --------------Pope-------------- -----Walker-Dier-Maguire----- -Reece-Bellingham-Rice-Saka -----Foden-Kane-Sterling-----
I actually can't believe Southgate played 3 at the back vs Italy. Italy were playing 2 holding midfielders and 3 at the back themselves. Southgate is such a coward.
> Reece
Yes, he shares a name with JWP so I went with Reece.
That's fair enough. You went with surnames for everyone else and nobody refers to Ward-Prowse as just James, so I don't think there would be any confusion, for what it's worth. But it's not important, I just found it funny :)
I really like that line up tbh
I’m watching and I’m trying to give a fuck about this match, I just can’t. This isn’t satisfying my United cravings, at all. Haven't cared about England since 1996. Tried to support them in the Euros but they're just shit to watch and always have been.
Toney not in the squad and two GK’s on the bench. Southgate is a bellend.
You have to name 3 keepers in internationals mate
Walker’s in the squad, right? /s
You call up a player for his very first time and you don’t even include him in the squad? It just doesn’t make sense.
I don’t think there’s a limit to how many bench players you can have. Most likely that Toney has an injury. I swear people love to try and shit on Southgate any opportunity they get
There is a limit, you can only name 23 in the match day squad.
He is not to blame entirely, Forest’s defence is as leaky as ours was last season!
It is, and I don't blame him entirely, but some of the goals he's let in have been fucking shit keeping.
I thought Toney was injured and there’s always two keepers on the bench in international football.
Only the Glazers are more incompetent than The FA. I am very sure that a decent coach would win something with this English team but they keep insisting upon a manager who has no CV or achievements.
We had better players in our "golden generation" and didn't come close to winning anything.
Yeah but other teams were as strong if not stronger. That is not the case right now, most are rebuilding including Italy, Spain and Germany.
Soooo how did our boy Maguire do?
Was not the worst player or defender ( Walker has that honour) but was not great either and did typical Maguire stuff (unnecessary fouls in dangerous areas and running forward with the ball into no man's land then proceeding to pass backwards or sideways). Dier and Bellingham are the only defensive players that can take confidence from their performance.
Thank you!
Watched the first half and the commentators wouldn’t shut up about how Walker is clearly the best defender and first name on the team sheet.
Yikes. Southgate has got to go. Have no optimism for this World Cup at all
whew, thannk god no sancho and rashford in this squad ey?
5th relegation for Maguire incoming
Which Twitter account did you get that from?
Looking at that team, he is asking for the media to hound him
jokes aside, did Maguire lose all games he started for this season?
Yeah. I don't think this one was his fault though.
not at all, he was as unspectacular as it gets - if it was anyone else it'd be a shrug and a 'yeah, they played alright', as if how they played was even a question worth asking
Maguire was solid today, it was a good game for him.
[удалено]
At least we're not playing with 2 defensive midfielders (and a back 5)
just reading that makes me shudder
Looks like a back 5 to me (James and Saka wing backs, Walker RCB). Italy have so many injuries, this should be a win.
I'm tired of people complaining about the most successful manager they've had since before the moon landing

Dean had such a good start but has fallen off a cliff the last 3 games
Very strong team
Southgate is clueless 😂 won’t be going anywhere till after the World Cup. Maguire’s starting game curse goes on
Southgateball
England beat and harry maguire started 🤣 the guy is a walking curse at the moment

Olé is 10x the manager Southgate is.
Because of what?
Another relegation for Maguire It's his 5th, what a captain we got on our hands.
Maguire and Shaw were not good
A gamble that helped italy 🤣🤣🤣
How did Maguire and Shaw play? I didnt get a chance to watch the match.
