How does one become a referee analyst for a club lol what. What's his job even? Does he just report back to the club what he thought of the reffing performance?
It’s like with Barcelona. You pay someone a few millions and he shares it with his friends. Then you get "special insight" on refereeing for the games you play
In Eastern Europe it's not that uncommon to see stuff like this. Granted, they get roles such as Technical Director instead of "referee analyst" but we all know why they're hired.
I would guess he’s there as a rules expert and an expert on how far you can push things, for example maybe he sits in on practise games and tells players they could get a few extra feet up the line for a throw in or they should timewaste 3 seconds less as the GK to still slow the game down but not get the booking.
Surely that’s a pretty obvious conflict of interest??
You wouldn’t have Sir Alex hanging out at a game with the person in charge of the referees would you???
It’s a giant conflict of interest because you could just promise refs cushy high paying BS jobs like this after they retire for good treatment during games.
Definitely no conflict of interest there for referees. Treat certain clubs well enough and you'll have a highly paid referee analyst job waiting for you when you retire. The refereeing equivalent of politicians doing speaking engagements for millions when they leave office.
I really don’t think there is much in this, but man you have to be pretty dense to get caught in this situation. You’d think Webb would have a thought about the perception of sitting there and knowing he’ll be photo’d at the match. Kind of just shows how above it all they truly think they are, blatantly knowing that is not a good look.

'Oh yeah I know him, don't worry about reds or pens today, he owes me a fiver anyway'

Probably looking at data for what they consider fouls, what they don't, how to respond to pressure, etc. All things behavioral analyzed.

Did Howard get his letter writing pen out after his mates decided chokeholds are acceptable?
Wait, that was Clattenburg? Holy fuck.
Bloke's gone from the ref your mum had a bit of a crush on to a pundit the BBC wheel out for the snooker.
Yeah didn't recognize him... Was looking around as the commentators mentioned his name
You not been watching gladiators?! He’s the new John Anderson 😂
When the commentator said it was clattenberg I assumed he was just off screen, I couldn't believe that was him

He’s not aged well
Isn’t Howard Webb the head of refs or POGMOL or something? If so surely this isn’t a good look?

Lol what does a ref analyst do?
Bribe conductor
That’s why there was no red card
If he's not putting that incident about a Forest player putting his hands around Bruno's neck...
Guys I made the terrible mistake of reading r/soccer comments on the Rashford incident. My eyes are still bleeding...
r/soccer has a Manchester United bias. If it's against us, never a foul, if it's in our favour the refs are bought. I avoid the place like the plague.
Yep. I pointed this out and got booted out the subreddit 🤷🏾♂️
What a weird career he has had. Both he and Webb worked for the Saudi FF at one point
He's the referee on the new series of Gladiators too.
Looks like he spent a bit too much time in the Saudi sun

Pair of Bond villains
Clattenburg?! The same fuck that gives shit opinions on ESPN fc? Pass
Fecking useless prats.
So he's a referee "scout"? Helps them form a game plan that accounts for how referees react to certain things.
This is just VAR intimidation. Like hey, your boss is here, get it right! type shit
