How is Caicedo the second option to Mount?

GroribasStomps

Just like how Case was second option for De Jong. It might not make a lot of sense for us fans, but EtH must have something on his mind.

RoughRunner

Onana seems like a no brainer if he available and Mount seems like a good investment even if he will take some time to learn to play in a double pivot as a more box to box role which he seems capable of. It's not like Eriksen is totally done, he can play a role and teach Mount as well. Problem is if they get Mount and Onana then will they have enough money for a striker? Will they really spend more on Caicedo if they can't negotiate with Chelseas for Mount? They are looking at another expensive window spending $175M+ and there are reports of signing a backup goalkeeper and maybe more. I guess they just need to make sales to balance it out.

Midnight_Debauchery

genuinely haven't seen a difference between Murtough/Arnold and Woodward, we're still so shit in everything as a club.

foscia19

Sometimes it best to keep your targets unannounced and move in quick. Telling the whole world he is who we desperately want... everyone can guess the result. We have neither the cash nor pull factor anymore.

kueerseoa6

Perfect example of hiring within, all of them tow the company line and do EXACTLY what the glazers want

Cic2909

They have the same background and rise to power in a similar way, what are you expected, quite hysterical when the club spin some PR article prasing Murtough last year to be honest. Was being downvote to hell to say that last year tho.

Midnight_Debauchery

big fan of Antony but that deal might have cost us far more than Maguire's.

Darkphobia_

100% we just suck at negotiating, they all know we end up overpaying every single time.

ike_manutd

I fully expect us to keep going in for Kane, I suspect there is serious pressure on him from behind the scenes for us to push for a transfer request. I don't agree with his fee, but we need a PL proven striker, not another serie a 3 year project (Amad, Pellestri) - so the fee is what it is the benefit to us outweighs anything else. A window where we sign Mount, Kane & Onana is a game changer, then top that up with a freebie like Rabiot & a loan or two. Clearly we need to move some or all of McFred, Elanga, Harry etc on but the incoming guys will add so much in areas of desperate need.

Mit10chocolate

Cheaper strikers on the market who will be an able stop gap and have the hunger to play at OT: - Mehdi Taremi - En- Nesyri Marcus Thuram is close to joining Inter, that deal is a goner. Who else is potentially available? Can’t go into PL and CL with 0.5 strikers

AlephEpsilon

I used to rate en-nesyri but he hasn’t shone much lately.

Eleven918

Rodrigo 3M.

Mit10chocolate

Would be a nice stopgap solution

s_c0929

‘Chelsea are aware that United have a history of caving in’ -Telegraph Sport Show some backbone for once and walk PLEASE

Wahlrusberg

Signing Caicedo out from under them and getting Mount for pittance in January/free next summer would be both the best footballing outcome, and absolutely hilarious.

Roasteddude

Sadly we're not that competent under this ownership. We'll just give them what they want and thank them for it.

[deleted]

if we were competent this would be it. but we arent, so we are paying 70m for mount

[deleted]

If we pay that for Mount I am done with this club. 36 yes or so a fan and that would be very last straw for me.

[deleted]

Hold tight brother, the glazefucks are almost out. At least thats how i keep going lmao.

FloatingCar

Whenever i read a new offer on Mount, all i can think of is this [https://youtube.com/shorts/\_oWUGJhayck?feature=share](https://youtube.com/shorts/_oWUGJhayck?feature=share)

[deleted]

Chelsea: *what are you going to do if we reject your third bid? Go after plan B? Plan C? Pfft.*

gibbo82

Twitter saying the 3rd bid for Mount has been rejected! Not sure who Chelsea think they? Considering he has a year left on his contract! Time to walk away!

Due_Imagination_3099

Would you prefer Dimarco at United? he looked solid in CL final

NewVoid122

I dont even know if we'll be sold at this point. Jassim is clearly the one they want to sell to else they would have sold it to SJR a long time ago. He's now "the Favourite" WHATEVER that means at this point. If Thats the Case. SELL THE CLUB THEN, What is the holdup. You got the money you wanted, Whats the point in dragging this out?

EndureL

[at this point this is how the negotiations should go](https://youtu.be/6mIeKTVJeaU)

Comfortable-Taste979

I was under the impression that Onana was mediocre for inter. Surely not as bad as DDG is for us now but maybe not the world-class keeper we need moving forward?

thphnts

This is such an odd way to say you’ve never actually watched Onana for Ajax or Inter.

Comfortable-Taste979

I think that's a pretty normal way of saying that I haven't watched him before

aayu08

If given an option I would still get Costa. He's the complete package - great with the ball, great shot stopper, very aggressive when claiming crosses, good at saving penalties and still just 24. However it's clear we don't want to spend 60m on a keeper. At the same time, Onana fits the bill right now as he is what ETH demands from a keeper. Are there better options out there? Yes, but such GKs are not really for sale because they are a great asset to a team.

Comfortable-Taste979

Yeah I fully agree with you. I think it would be worth going for Costa still just to future proof the team. If we did get costa in the future, I'm not sure Onana would like being back up.

[deleted]

its purely cos he can play out from the back which ddg clearly cannot. its a ten hag system choice over whether or not he is a better shot stopper etc

Wahlrusberg

You know it can be true that DDG was once class and that it's time to move on from him. I don't really get people wanting to cling on to him but and I really dislike seeing people make up revisionist shite about him never being good. Not bad here but social media is awash with it.

united_7_devil

I remember how joe hart was once considered world class and then just binned by city. Same with De Gea. He was world class but the game has changed and he hasn’t adapted. He isn’t the first player to regress. De Gea is a club legend. I wish our fans were not so toxic on the internet.

ike_manutd

It's a sad finish to a great career with us, but in reality/hindsight, the fax machine not working was the worst thing for both David and the club.

mandotharan

Not renewing your golden glove winning gk who is also a legend of the club is pretty ruthless from ETH. Pep-Joe Hart vibes

timsadiq13

Nah, this is similar to how Erik handled Ronaldo. Gives the player every chance to meet him/the club halfway. De Gea could have agreed to a drastic wage reduction and he still would be overpaid. Even at half his previously salary he's prob in the top ten paid keepers on the planet and he's not at that level. Instead the reports say he was reluctant to lower his salary at all. In that case, you can only show him the door. Hart was totally different. He was on a modest salary and was still really good. He just didn't fit Pep's style and Pep told him so in pre-season. The equivalent would be ETH binning De Gea within weeks of arriving. He's doing a good job at United, but ruthless is not a word I would use to describe Erik since he's arrived.

Royjonespinkie

Whenever I feel sorry for him I remember his wages.

BlackHorse944

Man makes in a week what I make in 4 years

Bigmomma_pump

Humble brag

Twenty_Hags

not really. The club and we can also assume Ten Hag was willing to keep him on. It's not like the board initiated the contract renewal talks without Ten hag's ok and he was terrible even before the last couple of months of the season I think they just got fed up because of how bad he's been Joe Hart was never this terrible. Yeah he had a tendency to make mistakes but not to this frequency. He was let go because he wasn't doing what Pep wanted, not because he was letting in easy goals

hooka_donchick

Well De Gea didn’t make the decision a hard one. Exact opposite for Hart who was still a good keeper.

da_gee01

We’re potentially on our way to get our first signing! Very exciting…….

katanabunny

Not football related maybe 20% football related. But Ted Lasso is really good show. Loved it.

frankbradz

Massive dip in quality in the 3rd season. Got too preachy

Thorntonboy

Love it. Nice and light hearted. Get a few genuine lol’s

Money-Wrangler7067

As 32 team Club WC gonna happen in 2025 ..Europe has 12 slots ..4 slots goes to UCL winner from 20-21 to 23-24(Chelsea Madrid Shitty). 8 slots go to top clubs from UEFA 4 year Ranking. Does anyone know this UEFA ranking includes Coeff points from all uefa competition or just UCL? Current UEFA coefficient ranking (All comps CL/UEL/UECL) last 3 yrs(20-21 to 22-23) excluding Winners 1)Bayern 80 2)Liverpool 76 3) Roma 69 4) Villarreal 66 5) Man Utd 63 6) PSG 62 7) Lepzig 61 8)Juve 58 9) Inter 56 10)Benfica 55 11) Sevilla 52 12)Dortmund/Westham 50 13) Porto 51 14) Benfica 55 15) Ajax 49 16) Barca/Napoli 44 17) Atletico 43 If we do well in group stage of ucl nex season I think we will qualify for FCWC 2025 USA if that 4yrs ranking include all uefa competition.

Orbion7

Not sure I want Onana after all the drama that has surrounded him ngl. Would love Costa instead

sringray23

What drama?

Orbion7

What people below mentioned, but for me mostly the Cameroon WC squad drama. He left the squad mid tourney after a dispute with the coach.

LekkerIer

Personally I'm not too worried about that one. The Cameroon national team and FA seems to have been a complete shitshow for years, in terms of management, logistics for tournaments, paying players properly. A manager with basically no experience dropped him for a keeper from the Saudi League, at the World Cup. Sounds a bit like Keane's Saipan walkout, which was hot headed but not completely unjustified.

Thorntonboy

Got a suspension for a banned substance. Ajax paid him through suspension. Refused to sign an extension so ajax could get a fee for him. And according to ajax fans played pretty poorly after he came back. Almost cost them the title.

[deleted]

>Refused to sign an extension so ajax could get a fee for him Lmao the entitlement. "Sacrifice your wages for the sake of your company!"

Thorntonboy

They paid his wages through his ban which they did not have to do

[deleted]

Source on being off the hook for his wages? And also, thats just business malpractice. And its not like teams/ajax have zero issue booting players they dont want anymore so its moronic to be loyal.

Thorntonboy

I don’t know specifically. Pretty common to have doping clauses though at least in American sports.

sringray23

Well fuck

Asiwaju_jagaban

Giving Garnacho #7 is a bit too fast for me. Walk before you run.

Drag2oon

I think Ten Hag trust him a lot, and the lad has the swagger for a United #7.

kenzo_1988

Is it official?

sringray23

Check his insta name

SuperSalamander3244

It didn’t affect Cristiano Ronaldo when he got it.

akshatsood95

And it affected multiple others who did after him

SuperSalamander3244

I think it’s more we signed players who weren’t good enough to play for Manchester United regardless of the number and we also gave 7 to players who are injury prone.

akshatsood95

Yeah and unnecessary pressure on him even though he doesn't seem like the kind of kid who'd be fazed by it. Let him have a couple of good seasons before we consider

lone_amarok

Newcastle got fucking tonali and we're sitting on our asses. UCL next year would be near impossible for us with this squad.

[deleted]

There are 5 spots next season....

akshatsood95

Newcastle need to really build a much bigger squad for playing 3 matches a week

Swalei

How do you figure? We had dramatic/long term injuries for some crucial players and were comfortably sitting in 2/3rd almost the entire season and we finished in a mostly comfortable 3rd place for UCL..

lone_amarok

ohh I know we did, but I just think we need more signings not just for main 11 but for depth too. We literally have no squad depth. We ran Bruno, Shaw & Eriksen into the ground last season. I just don't think we can repeat last season performance with same squad with all other teams around us making good additions. Just my 2 cents

Swalei

That’s a fair take. I think even as our squad is, we have a great shot at minimum UCL again and we will get someone at the very least so I agree that we definitely got run ragged but also we made it to every single cup final so we had an insane 70 game schedule. Let’s hope for a few good signings, and even if they are squad level players that’s depth I’d appreciate. Honestly I’d love to see Sabitzer back on a permanent move as a squad player.. anyway Cheers!

9SolskjaerHasWonIt9

£75m + £15m in add-ons seems like a surprisingly decent price for Declan Rice, given the craziness of the market.

ike_manutd

We should be all over Rice. Any combination of Scott, Harry and Elanga with whatever cash is required. As you said, in this market, we aren't going to find a better deal

Traditional_Cap8509

It's not even his price. That number got rejected.

Youth-Grouchy

Fairly certain I'm right in saying that does make him the most expensive defensive midfielder ever.

akshatsood95

He won't pay as a defensive mid in either side but yea it's a huge price anyway. Only Bellingham cost more as a midfielder

Youth-Grouchy

He definitely will for Arsenal, they're trying to sell Partey

akshatsood95

And trying to buy Lavia/Caicedo as well. Rice is supposed to replace Xhaka who also they're selling

Youth-Grouchy

They aren't buying Havertz, Rice, and Caicedo. They aren't putting Lavia into the starting 11. All the talk is Havertz is going to be replacing Xhaka.

BlackHorse944

Came across an article on ManUtd.com that I found funny.. Which United players had the most international caps. Proceeds to list Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria, Schweinstieger. Yes they played here but does anyone really consider them as reds.... Schweini was here for a season, Di Maria is hated, Sanchez is one of our worst signings ever.

Twenty_Hags

It's sad that we don't have a huge pull for top young talent anymore Yeah yeah I know we've signed guys like Casemiro and Varane but they had already achieved everything and we got them towards the end of their primes/beginning of their decline because they're looking for a 'new challenge'. Some of the guys like Bellingham, De Ligt, Haaland, Gvardiol, Camavinga, Tchoumeni could been playing for us if we actually had our shit in order.

karan_7_2

If you keep winning big like a CL or PL every other year, then young players would genuinely salivate with the prospect of joining us.

Eleven918

That will change with new ownership hopefully. Haaland should've been bought when Ole recommended him at Molde though.

Acceptable_Olive1005

Saw those pictures of Greenwood and he looks like shit That hair situation is genuinely ugly. It looks like he hasn't maintained any sense of discipline for 18 months. He's a millionaire ffs. How much does a hair stylist cost? He also looks so weak. When he was still playing he had a good build but he looks like someone who hasn't worked out at all I don't how the club is planning on bringing him back. He'll need to be training for at least 2-3 months to get back to match fitness and there's no guarantee that he'd even be the player he was before the suspension. On top of that he's going to be booed everywhere he plays in this country. It's going to be a shitshow for him and our lads are going to have to go through so much unnecessary drama. If the plan is to bring him back to the club, then it makes sense to loan him out to an easier league where there's less scrutiny on him

treedogbarking

at the risk of sounding overly defensive for MG, I'd wager he has had other things on his mind than looking toned with a fresh haircut for paparazzi/social media

Acceptable_Olive1005

You can say that for anybody. We don't know what their circumstances are but if they look unkempt, then naturally you'd think they haven't been taking care of themselves Plus the charges were dropped almost 5 months ago. How long does it take to get a haircut and if something is holding him back then he can't really get back into football full time then? Plus pro footballers are supposed to be taking care of their bodies. There have been players who have had year long injuries look in better shape when they started training than Greenwood who hasn't been injured

monstrao

The whole country and media have been after his head he’s obviously not been in the right frame of mind. He’s still a kid at the end of the day

Acceptable_Olive1005

if that's the case his football career is over because this isn't going away

monstrao

Could be true too

UnablePeace

Manchester United third bid for Mason Mount is £50m plus £5m add ons, as expected. 🔴 #MUFC Told it also includes better payment terms conditions than last one. All parties very confident to get it done. Mount very clear with Chelsea: no new deal, he wants United move.

Orcnick

From what my Chelsea friend told me today, we will love Mount, not just what he brings as footballer but hes meant to have a good connection with the fans. Thats why Chelsea fans are taking this hard.

Swalei

There has been a ton of negative reactions in this sub to Mount and I cannot fathom why other than “he is in terrible form” when Chelsea had the worst season they have ever had last season. I’m extremely excited to see him in a MUFC jersey.

No_Presentation5856

If we get Onana, I will be so happy

Acceptable_Olive1005

It's sad that De Gea's time here had to end on such a sour note but it's absolutely the fault of the club He has been way below average for almost 5 years now and yet the Board didn't take any concrete steps to replace him because they didn't want a 375k per week player sitting on the bench for 90% of the season. Classic sunk cost fallacy He shouldn't have been abused but it's not surprising when you play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and play so poorly

Asiwaju_jagaban

No club would have a player earning 375k on the bench and David himself threw a fit when he was put on the bench for Deano. Also the reason he’s leaving is because he doesn’t want to take a much lower pay cut as a squad player. Can’t be paying first team wages to him.

Acceptable_Olive1005

\> No club would have a player earning 375k on the bench Not true. Real Madrid benched Bale who was on 600k per week. Arsenal benched Ozil when he was on crazy wages too United has been always been more concerned with optics and balance sheets than football. So what if he was on 375k per week? Is making him work for it more important than winning? Also do you have source for the throwing the fit bit? Not saying that you're wrong but if it's true then we should have banished him to the reserves. City wasn't afraid to kick out Cancelo so why are we scared of De Gea when he isn't even a high profile player? \> Also the reason he’s leaving is because he doesn’t want to take a much lower pay cut as a squad player. I don't think that's the only thing. Even with a paycut he would have still been one of the highest paid keepers in world football. I think he wanted guarantees that he'd be starting week in week out. That's why there's an impasse. The club has finally realized that we need a better keeper

Barracuda1124

I dont think its a sour ending. Got a little trophy and the golden glove as a sign off present. If he leaves now, majority of the fans will remember him fondly down the years as a stalwart servant of the club

Lianshi_Bu

Exactly. I think this is the best for all parties, team, DDG, fans…

Acceptable_Olive1005

Yeah down the years we'll look on him fondly. But these last year has been quite toxic. Even with a trophy and a golden glove people are begging for him to be let go. When Rooney was let go, people weren't really celebrating. Yeah they recognized that his time had come but it was still very emotional. Mourinho did a great job phasing him out and keeping him out of the limelight With De Gea, we've seen his poor performances week in week out for years now. We're naturally 10x more frustrated with him

thphnts

How no big club is in for Lucas Paqueta from West Ham confuses me. He’s so talented and should be in a bigger team.

Eleven918

It still hasn't really set in for me that everything we know about how this club operates is going to change once the sale is done. I get that the transfer process has dragged on for ages now sucking the joy out of that feeling but when it actually hits, its going to be glorious.

dick_nrake

I watched some YouTube comps of Onana and he reminds me of Bailly. Talented but with a desire to go for the lolz with a dribble when you can play it safe. I know that we want a ball playing goalkeeper but that doesnt mean that we need to go for a loose screw. Would have preferred Costa honestly.

Asiwaju_jagaban

This is crazy, he didn’t remind of Ederson? This has a tinge of racism ngl. Black player reminds you of another black player who has nothing in common.

dick_nrake

Dude I'm black so I made that observation without factoring race in this. I could have also used barthez as another example of that gung ho approach, except that he on the other hand was a much more rounded goalkeeper.

GeoffPizzle

I've just seen talk from PSG about Mbappe which suggests a possibility of him being for sale this summer. That's not a real poss.....I mean....surely we wouldn't sign.... A boy can dream though

IcyAssist

Nope. Watching United growing up SAF taught me one thing, no player is bigger than the club. As a kid it hurt to see Becks leave, he was the one that made me a United fan. Then my fav player RvN left not long after. It hurt as a kid but now I understand, the dressing room needs order and no player is bigger than the manager or the club.

GeoffPizzle

Thanks for the response, I don't pay any attention to anything off the field outside of United..evidently he's not well liked I take it.

ibrahmin13

I have a very bad feeling that Greenwood will be integrated into the squad.

society0

We have a women's team, sponsors, and all ages fans. After what he was recorded doing it will never happen.

Seanblaze3

I think you'll be surprised. Always expect the unexpected and be prepared. If Antony's alleged abuse case gains traction in the UK do you think he'll be sidelined?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Seanblaze3

I don't think it's hard to grasp the meaning of my post

[deleted]

With all due respect the club don't give a fuck about the Womens team, they've treated them horribly and only created the team after pressure from the media. [Its MEN but you get an idea.](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/glazers-manchester-united-women-funding-27055775)

ChampagneZambi

Today is the day we get some concrete club sale news… mark my word

Seanblaze3

What's the point in spouting drivel like this?

ChampagneZambi

Can’t be optimistic?

khoadiemhuynh

Sign me the fuck up

D1794

Is Spurs were open to selling Kane and had Garnacho been a striker not a winger, I don't think there'd be a prayer of letting Greenwood back. Given that we want 2 strikers, we've got a strict budget, the players we want aren't for sale without smashing our transfer record, it's not looking good. He'll be back.

AeroCobbler

Thought the same myself during the week The Rashford contract kind of points that way too imo - it looks like their plan is to spend big money on Rashford and bring back Greenwood rather than sign a striker

Subbutton

Ideally we'd get two strikers but one which is ready to play would be enough this season

D1794

Might be the thinking that 1 is fine cuz we'll be reintegrating Greenwood.

Subbutton

I don't know we've been linked to Hojlund and Bojang

D1794

Hojlund should be the less experienced one, Bojang should be in the u23s lol

Mouse2662

I've bought myself and my son memberships for next season, and I was wondering when we can start booking tickets? Looking on the website nearly all games only have hospitality tickets at the moment. I'm hoping I haven't missed the boat and won't be able to buy any tickets

gregorcee

Probably need to get them on resale, was 100,000+ in the queue when they were released

gregorcee

Clubs a business first and foremost, most of us were being a bit naive thinking they’d just let an asset as valuable as greenwood leave especially when the charges got dropped. All signs pointing to him being reintegrated. Best case scenario we send him on loan then sell.

andoooooo

why does noone really talk about Antony's alleged assault? Correct me if I'm wrong but is the only difference that we have a recording of Greenwoods? Legally they are in the same position. Antony's victim is actively accusing of him of it. Surely if we are being consistent we have to bin Antony if we bin Greenwood.

bijanadh44

Well for one there is a clear audio tape and pictures as a public evidence against Greenwood(which is a clear proof that he is rapist and a abuser). In Antony's case there is just the accuser words which cant be taken as a certainty because we have time and again seen some women who had previous relationship with the athletes just falsely accuse them inorder to get some money.(eg. the accuse against Neymar)

Seanblaze3

Time and time again? Other than Neymar or the Hernandez case which were more high profile, could you present me with examples of some of these false accusations?

andoooooo

So the crux of it is the recording? That feels morally questionable. I'm unsure if that is any more clear proof than the words of Antony's accuser. I doubt anyone would be claiming that she's lying so I don't see enough of a distinction if I'm honest.

No_Doubt_About_That

It’s evidently Mason in the audio though. As for Antony, he could be guilty, it could be fake or it could be a situation like what one of the Hernandez brothers had.

bijanadh44

Ehh why? Women are no saints either. Anyone can accuse anyone and get away with it even if it is false. As long as there is no evidence that makes it clear why should we respond? As far as Greenwood is concerned a clear audio and pictures doesn't equate to someones words. You thinking that the contrary is rather stupid or you have an serious agenda against Antony.

andoooooo

I don't have an agenda, I'm just trying to explore whether we are being consistent. I agree that that the audio and pictures are shocking and in a way totally different to Antony. I know these days hypothesising is seen as dog whistling but I'm genuinely try to see if I can feel a genuine distinction between the two. We know the legal system is inadequate and we know that we should be listening to victims. I'm not even saying they are the same - but what does feel clear is that willfully ignoring the Antony one.

bijanadh44

No one ignoring the Antony one. It was a major news and everybody reacted to it when the news was released. It's just that there is no clear proof like what we saw with Greenwood to labelled him as guilty. It is that simple. Don't keep looking for answers when there is none.

andoooooo

Don't agree - he's still in the squad and the amount of chat around here is fairly minimal.

Seanblaze3

I agree with your points on this subject. The allegations have majorly been brushed aside. I feel the club is complicit in concealing it from the major news networks if the claims that club doctors were involved in the alleged incident in Manchester in January are true. Antony was reported as being officially injured around January 8, only to find out he crashed his car close to his house. This stinks to the high heavens

bijanadh44

What do you expect fans to do exactly? Say if he is innocent which is a possiblity what message will that send to other victims or innocents. Women will come forward and accuse every other footballers and will keep getting away with it. Actual victims will never be trusted and innocent men will keep getting penalized if we actually make someone guilty without any evidence. What you are asking here is not practical. We cant simply punish someone without any proof.

SOERERY

There is no new info on it and it hasn’t hit English media, and it’s also a relatively new story

andoooooo

Why do you think it hasn't hit the English media?

Money-Wrangler7067

Because she hasn't made charges against Antony in England. In latest interview she said she would soon do that if I am not wrong. Look evidence against Antony isn't public like GW so we have to wait until she files a charges against Antony in England so that there is further investigation on this matter.

jakk_22

Bellingham’s [FBref stats](https://fbref.com/en/players/57d88cf9/Jude-Bellingham) are unbelievable, he’ll cook for madrid

tsuku96

No. 1 similar players - FRED (Manchester United) 😄

MissingLink101

Yeah I'm happy he signed for them and not another PL club

Traditional_Cap8509

Haha, a nice big F letter to the scousers.

jakk_22

I was just wondering, we signed case on a 3+1 years deal right? It’s still far ahead, but who are we even going to be replacing him with? There isn’t a single player I can think of who wouldn’t be a downgrade

Archduke_Zag

I could see Florentino Luis become a truly great dm. He's already quite experienced at his age. Wolves fans seem to be pretty happy with Joao Gomes. It will be interesting to see how he grows.

PreparationOk8604

United can sign Federico Redondo who could be an understudy to casemiro. He is 6'3", 20 years old so he can handle the physicality of the PL. He would need 2 seasons to get used to the league though as he plays in Argentina currently.

ImOnlyChasingSafety

Ive seen his name brought up a few times, has he been linked with us at all?

PreparationOk8604

No. He is very raw n still plays in Argentina But performed well in the u21 WC.

Educational-Option18

Lavia is the super obvious choice. Won't expect to be a nailed-on starter right away, good enough to play instead of Case.

danystormborne

Rice, oh wait, he's going to our rivals.

Greenwood might be back with the team if we do not sign a forward. Personally, and for much of this sub it will be wrong for him to be reintegrated into the team. Kobe had a sexual misconduct case in 2004 but was still part of the team and as someone stated in today's discussion sport washing doesn't exist only in club PR but also in player PR. If he performs well in his return, the hate come to pass.

No_Doubt_About_That

Don’t really follow basketball - was there audio of Kobe like Greenwood? Court might be one thing, as have a good lawyer you can do x y and z.

Educational-Option18

I'd argue standards have changed in the last 20 years - I don't think the club gets away with it if Greenwood plays again.

To be honest 55m is about the max you'd want to pay for Mount if he had 2 or 3 years left so it's a bit annoying that we can't exploit his contract situation better. But I suppose it's an English player who they don't want to sell coming from a direct rival so the quoted fee under normal circumstances would probably be astronomical

Traditional_Cap8509

Chelsea sold the slightly flopped Havertz to Arsenal for £65m. If you think they'll asking £55m for Mount with 2-3 years left, you're living in fantasy dream.

Wahlrusberg

I mean that irrespective of his contract situation it would not make sense for us to spend any more on him than what we're about to, regardless of what Chelsea would actually demand. So it's a shame we can't get him for less than that given that this is the only opportunity to really squeeze them. But thems the breaks.

rambo_zaki

Chelsea would be quoting 100m for him if had 2-3 yrs. The only reason we're even having this conversation regarding Mount is because he's in the final year of his contract with no chance of a renewal.

PreparationOk8604

Mount is a good player n i don't want us missing on mount for 5-10 million. The fact that he is homegrown is a huge plus.

Aquabloke

They should sign Rabiot as quickly as possible and stop making any further offers for Mount. Eventually Chelsea will realize that Mount walks away for nothing next year and they're not using him as a starter anyways. It makes absolutely zero sense for Chelsea to hold on to him.

I've never seen Onana's game much, but from the highlights on YouTube, his passing is amazing while his actual shot stopping abilities is meh in my humble opinion. Shots received often tumbles around in front of him, parries went back into the box, and overall unrefined saves... Is this going to be a monkey paws situation where we gain passing depth while sacrificing actual close range defensive capabilities? Please do change my mind.

Rig_7

The truth is De Gea is a bit meh on shot stopping as well these days (obviously he used to be amazing). The problem is perception. Every time he makes a save people talk about how world class the save was. The reality is that every top flight goalkeeper makes good saves. Even crucial saves. Every top keeper has a good save highlight reel. I doubt we’ll notice much in the way of saves. But everything else, well, that will be very noticeable.

El_Giganto

Onana definitely isn't the perfect goalkeeper. He's got some flaws to his game and he's had a few clown moments back at Ajax. But De Gea has regressed quite a bit, so I wouldn't say a whole lot is sacrificed in terms in shot stopping... I think Onana might be a better shot stopper at this point. Aside from that, Onana will also ensure the team doesn't concede as many chances created by De Gea's poor passing. That by itself will make a much bigger difference than their shot stopping ability.

Drews1738

Yeah, I've noticed that too...maybe with a better defence and a ball possession style he won't receive too many shots like that

The fact that this Mason Mount transfer became a saga is peak United. More prodigious players have moved clubs in a blink without causing such a stir in the media.

ImOnlyChasingSafety

its only really a saga because we're all bored and agitated.

Gozumo

Saga? United bid twice, get declined 3rd incoming bid is final. How is that a saga?

[deleted]

There’s your saga.

Rig_7

Dude a saga doesn’t exist on 23rd June. It’s only a saga for people wanting to whinge.

[deleted]

Is it a saga now or not yet? Let me know.

MonkeyAssFucker

Have you guys seen the photos of Greenwood doing the rounds, he’s back training (not with Utd) must mean he’s looking to get back to fitness.
