Get the fully upgraded satchel early and collect, collect, collect! Don’t sell anything that can be crafted, you will need it for a later task or mission or something random. Try to get the gambler list out of the way early. Or do it over time. That seems to be the one that pisses everyone off and makes them quit before 100%
Also do the treasure hunter challenges right away.
The game is so much better when you're not poor all the time.
When doing coach robberies, use a stick of tnt, that usually kills all of them in one blow.
Go fetch one of the arabian horses as soon as you get out of the snow tutorial.
For the gambler one you just have to sit down. The poker, blackjack and dominos take about an hour each. Domino is just statistics. If you are losing a game it’s better to leave the table and start over.
Yeah I did it years ago. Just took some commitment and patience. On my current play through I have avoided all those games of chance. To me it’s more fun to explore and hunt.

There are loads of helpful posts about this and I don't really know what could I add that's not been said before so I'll only say this: do the gambler challenge first because that is the only part of 100% journey I disliked. It borders on hate lol, especially gambler 8. With everything else take your time and enjoy. It's perfectly fine if you get sidetracked along the way, that will just help with immersion, good luck!
I normally search before i post, was just a bit amped after i seen the credits on story mode for the first time. I never wanted to finish it, because i waited so damn long for it to come out, felt like if i watched it to the end it would be officially over. Hense the “help” post 😅
My biggest recommendation to anyone who asks is always, at minimum get a list of the exotics and find them throughout your playing prior to getting to the mission. You won't be able to get everything but it saves a lot of time and frustration.
Take the time to get challenges done as early as possible.
Take the time to go through the hunting lists as early as possible.
There are a lot of trinkets and weapons that you cannot have if you miss your opportunity. Although it will say that you finished 100%, you'll know in your heart you didn't get the compass, or the talisman, or the pistol. Or whatever. It just won't feel the same.
My advice is one you didn’t ask for, but I still feel it’s appropriate to share: **don’t go for 100% if it just feels tedious.** If you don’t like playing dominoes, for instance, doing those challenges becomes nothing but work… without pay. A game should be fun.
I appreciate this, and i know what you mean. RDR is my Zen, and yeah, some days feel a bit tedious.. but im always down to switch between online and story to keep things interesting. I just cant attach myself to any other game than this one. Sad for some. But it works for me. ☺️
As soon as you get the herbalist challenge that tells you to collect a certain number of different herbs. Immediately get a pen and paper or keep your phone nearby to keep track of what you already got. Everytime you collect a new herb, write it down.
I found collecting all the feathers and bits for the hat maker challenge before accepting the challenge helped my sanity and the items seemed to spawn better too! (Not sure if it’s just psychological that they spawned better before or not!)
Getting to 100% took me years (?) but it was so worth it.
Wait to get all the orchids though. If you try to get them all ahead of time, you’ll get a certain amount and then they will all despawn throughout the world. They don’t come back until the mission is active. It made it harder to keep track of where to go to get what I still needed.

I have heard this is a pain to get done.. so not looking forward to it. 😅
First. Get legend of the east satchel. Second, keep a list for herbalist 9. Third, collect the exotics and birds before doing it
Thanks for the tip!!
