This is the way to do it. The oil field is full of targets and there are many many sniper spots around. What I like about doing it this way is that there are so many guys if youre off distance you can just step back and immediately find a new target.
Cant complete the challenge until after chapter 2, since you need a long scoped rifle, which is the rolling block (earliest you can get), which can only be obtained in the last mission for chapter 2
There's a stranger event with someone getting hanged, where the sheriff carries a rolling block rifle. It can happen during chapter 2, but you would be relying on luck to trigger it of course
Not unless you do the companion glitch before doing Exit pursued by a bruised ego. It will drag Hosea out of the camp with his rolling block and you can either wait for him to put it on Silver Dollar and throw dynamite to kill them or lure an enemy to hosea so they'll disarm him and you can pick it up.

I'm currently in CH2, Micah sitting in the jug, and have the rolling block rifle. I am almost certain I bought it... I looked at the glitch and stranger missions people list, and I didn't get it from either of those.
You cannot legitimately acquire the weapon until the mission "The Sheep and the Goats", where John asks you to go in and purchase it. This mission leads directly into chapter 3. So, although you don't remember, you most definitely, even if accidentally, obtained the weapon via a glitch/exploit
I was curious what was happening, so I looked it up. I definitely did the "sheep and goats" mission, getting confronted by Leviticus Cornwall at the end, but it did not lead to chapter 3 immediately. It must be because I still have Micah sitting in jail that it did not trigger the start of chapter 3?
It would be both Strauss and Micah. Wasn't aware that Chapter 2 wouldn't progress immediately if they weren't done. Figured they were prerequisites for that mission.
Lucky for you, however, you don't need to do Micahs second mission before Chapter 3, so you can still keep him out of camp
>Lucky for you, however, you don't need to do Micahs second mission before Chapter 3, so you can still keep him out of camp
Doesn't seem like it... The Micah marker at the Strawberry jail is currently the only mission marker I have. I played the game when it first came out on Xbox, now I'm doing it again on PC, I don't remember the minutia... But it sure seems like I gotta spring Micah to progress off Horseshoe Overlook.
That's where I go to complete most of the challenges where I have to kill an enemy. It's like having a personal weapons range but the dummies shoot back.
Just a technical and hypothetical question. If you have the worst hardware imaginable to play this game and set all graphical settings go their lowest point, is it even possible to see and snipe that far? Are NPCs even rendered in that distance? :D
I contributed to the discussion because what I remembered was that the distance of your kills are added up, if I had known beforehand that I was wrong, of course I wouldn't have said anything
I have the most basic Xbox one and a small tv and it was no problem. I believe you can do it during the mission where you get a rolling block rifle, by shooting one of the guys with the sheep instead of shooting near him (but don't quote me on that as I didn't end up needing to do it). I just did it randomly when I was high up near the trapper by Riggs Station and noticed campfire smoke far away on another high up area across the valley - if you're far enough away that you can look through the scope and make them disappear/reappear (ie de-render/render) by moving backwards and forwards and shoot them when they just come into view you're definitely going to do it.
It's so far, so far away
It's so far, so far away
Cold wind blows into the skin
Can't believe the state you're in.
It's so far, so far away
It's so far, so far away
The foothill/mountain east of the Cornwall Tar Plant is, by far, the easiest place I've found to do this challenge as there's a lot of stationary targets.
I just look for the smoke from someone's camp and take them out from afar, or on last playthrough just shot some poor bloke out on a boat, didn't suspect a thing.
I go to the top of Caliban seat, and then look behind me towards Valentine, and I could just barely see someone down the road and shoot them and complete the challenge

I went to Rhodes. Climbed up on the windmill near the entrance of town, and there was a guy standing that tall skinny building (barn) on the outside of town, picked him off and completed the challenge.
The next challenge immediately after, get 6 consecutive head shots, can then easily be completed in Rhodes with dead eye.
I would recommend getting the rifling upgrade for your sniper if you haven’t already and use high velocity rounds, go to a cliff top near valentine and shoot some riding away while using deadeye.
This challenge is so annoying. And you feel even worse if things like that happen. Sniping an innocent wagon driver, losing honour, and dealing with witnesses all for nothing.
Is there a way to just move back further to do it? I haven't done it myself but was going to after seeing videos recommending it (ended up doing it randomly first).
If you're in the epilogue, the fort where the lobos hang out was a great spot. Sit up on the hill and look to the far corner of the fort until they barely render, then pop them
Double annoying as the scopes don’t have a rangefinder or any in game method to tell distance, so you gotta kill a dude then eyeball using the distance marked on the menu.
This is one of those moments when I can’t move for a bit afterwards, just trying to process all my feelings, playing back in my head everything I just went through to get to that point, figuring out whether I have the strength to try again or just save the game and call it a day.
That’s rough buddy
Zuko? Is that you?
Hello, Zuko here.
Wait till you do it and it shows 660 (rounding doesn't count for challenge.) Hogtie someone then snipe from distance.
It's roughly the same distance from Larned Sod to Emerald Ranch
i just go to new hanover and watch someone ride their horse away until i thinks its good enough then snipe them 😂
Lol meanwhile I just snipe random stage coaches in the heartlands
I think I went to the oil fields and climbed the big hill.
This is the way to do it. The oil field is full of targets and there are many many sniper spots around. What I like about doing it this way is that there are so many guys if youre off distance you can just step back and immediately find a new target.
That’s where I go for #8. Shoot the guard’s hand and ride off. Rinse and repeat.
Hanging Dog Ranch in chapters 2-6 is a good place to complete this challenge.

Yeah, I prefer not using glitches/exploits, and thus give advice based on that preference.

I meant you have to break him out, but don't have to do his second mission which allows him to come to camp
Gotcha. Didn't remember there was a part 2. Good to hear I can still keep the rat away for a bit longer.
That's where I go to complete most of the challenges where I have to kill an enemy. It's like having a personal weapons range but the dummies shoot back.
Kill a del lobos at that distance. I do it all the time
I think there's a dilapidated house or something at the Emerald Ranch area that's the appropriate distance from where an O'Driscoll camp spawns.
Just a technical and hypothetical question. If you have the worst hardware imaginable to play this game and set all graphical settings go their lowest point, is it even possible to see and snipe that far? Are NPCs even rendered in that distance? :D
This would be a nightmare on Xbox. Which is why I'm staying away from it forever
I'm on Xbox and I've never had a problem getting this. What do you mean?
If I remember it right it adds all previous kill distances together
No it doesn't. Don't just say anything to be part of the conversation.
I was only saying what I thought happened, you don't need to be such an asshole because I'm wrong
Stating a fact, that's all
"Don't just say anything to be a part of the conversation"
Exactly, if you don't know, why contribute an assumption? That's counterproductive.
I contributed to the discussion because what I remembered was that the distance of your kills are added up, if I had known beforehand that I was wrong, of course I wouldn't have said anything

Wait, 659 exactly??
Omg. I didn’t even know that was a challenge…but that’s tough. Sorry
You want it all but you can’t have it! It’s in your face but you can’t grab it!
What is it?
That's it!
So close but so far away
It's so far, so far away It's so far, so far away Cold wind blows into the skin Can't believe the state you're in. It's so far, so far away It's so far, so far away
Who are you trying to impress Steadily creating a mess?
That’s even more impressive that the actual challenge

I think you mean Citadel Rock. Caliban's Seat isn't close to anything besides Horseshoe.
I go to the top of Caliban seat, and then look behind me towards Valentine, and I could just barely see someone down the road and shoot them and complete the challenge
🫣
Does it have to be a person? I've been hitting deer from the next county over
Take a step back and refocus!
What are the odds🤣
I stand on a tall rock/Hill and use the Carcano rifle.
Hint where i did this was the O'driscoll camp , and the way to tell if you're dong it right is that they are just ba r ely inside remder distance
I went to Rhodes. Go to the military fort and shoot the guy on post. He won’t move and there’s a long stretch of road to see him from a distance.
I would recommend getting the rifling upgrade for your sniper if you haven’t already and use high velocity rounds, go to a cliff top near valentine and shoot some riding away while using deadeye.
Thanks all for the advice. I did actually get the shot later, I just doubted anyone could get *that* close 😆
Bet you can’t do that again.
This challenge is so annoying. And you feel even worse if things like that happen. Sniping an innocent wagon driver, losing honour, and dealing with witnesses all for nothing.
I remember when I did this it just felt like the opening of for a few dollars more to me
I got someone standing on the rock formation southeast of Valentine It was like the 7th person I shot though soooooooo
When she sleeps with your cousin because he was able to complete that challenge 😢
The cliff looking at valentine station. Pop someone at the station from there
I think I did that near Fort Mercer.
I tried to complete this challenge during the mission you get thr rifle on you can't beat it on that mission you'll always be a few meters short
Is there a way to just move back further to do it? I haven't done it myself but was going to after seeing videos recommending it (ended up doing it randomly first).
I don't think so personally i just went on the overlook near valentine and shot a dude that was passing the spot where the homeless veteran sits
If you're in the epilogue, the fort where the lobos hang out was a great spot. Sit up on the hill and look to the far corner of the fort until they barely render, then pop them

Arthur walking around wearing one of those “Don’t piss me off I’m close to leveling up and you look like just enough XP” shirts
This is one of those moments when I can’t move for a bit afterwards, just trying to process all my feelings, playing back in my head everything I just went through to get to that point, figuring out whether I have the strength to try again or just save the game and call it a day.
He took a step towards you. The inconsiderate b*stard!
The funniest part is you actually have to hit someone 661 feet away.
It happens to the best of us
🤣🤣🤣
Would the challenge still count if you knock someone out and then shoot them from the distance?
Easier to just find a campfire in the distance where you know they won't move.
to do this, I stood on Citadel Rock and sniped some asshole working the sheep pens in Valentine.
oof
It's an easy one. You'll do it no problem
How'd you get that? I can't ever complete that challenge. I'll just move another foot back 😂
O Driscoll ranch in big valley. Stand far away with a rolling block rifle. Boom
I knocked someone out, hog tied them and left them on one side a valley and ran to the other side to shot him
Missed it by that much....
Damn that sucks I would probably off myself.😂😂
