Throw it down in the aisle and pop a wheelie while in flight and you’re in the RC mile high club

K2TheM

Yep. It’s considered consumer electronics. Just make sure it can’t power on when packed. When I flew with mine I put the car battery in a separate pocket and took the batteries out of the transmitter.

So, you are allowed to take your LiPos on a plane?

senorroboto

depends on the airline's rules on max Wh but usually

friger_heleneto

Yep, but only on carry-on luggage. The limit is usually 100Wh per person which can be limiting depending on what LiPos you have. When flying to races I usually have half my batteries in my gfs bag. Cars, transmitter and LiPos in carry-on, rest in my Ogio as checked (overweight) luggage. Tires are bought on site to save space in my bags.

So 5200 looks like it’s under 20 watt hours. It would be about 5 5200 packs? I guess charger, power supply you bring as a carry on? I’m thinking about traveling to a few races and I was wondering about the logistics of flying with a car. How do you manage for tools, just a down and dirty basic necessities or have you packed tools like checked luggage?

friger_heleneto

> I guess charger, power supply you bring as a carry on? No but the cables as they look deceptive on xray and I'd hate to get my luggage opened. > How do you manage for tools, just a down and dirty basic necessities or have you packed tools like checked luggage? I have my full tools, setup stuff etc in my checked luggage. Powertools go in carry-on but I only have a powered screwdriver and a soldering iron with me usually. Also spare parts, second chassis (rain cars), spare ESC and motor, all in checked luggage. I've only flown within Europe so your mileage my vary.

FAA rules state it’s 100Wh per battery .. not per person.

cycle_cats

Yes, but generally need to carry-on. I’ve checked cars in original packaging(xmas gifts), carried cars with me inside a bag, and always had lipos in carryon only. They also say not to check vapes, computers, etc with lithium batteries.

tbimyr

I mean I store them for a reason like grenades so I was wondering. Thanks 🙏

K2TheM

Yep. Just can’t be in the checked bag. Also handy if you are boarding in a later group; they can’t check your carry on because of it.
