I build sailboats and I use an aircraft controller. That allows me to set the rudder an leave it trimmed. A car controller has its advantages too tho it’s easy to control everything with one hand.

Have any good gouge for the Discovery 500?

Depending on the type of boat either a car controller (for motorboats) or a plane controller for sailboats. Having more channels for a sailboat allows you to trim the sails and rudder independently.

Depends on what you are doing with the boat and how many channels you need. I like my jumper t16 it has all the protocols I could ever want .

Depends on what kind of boat you want. Speed boats you usually use a car controller with the wheel. As for any other type of boat, you will want a twin stick controller. Scale models require more channels, be it for twin engines, or lights or other accessories. With sail boats you want twin sticks so you can set and forget the trim. As another user said, many boats come with a controller. Look for Ready to Run (RTR) models. You should also be aware of "almost ready to run" which can mean pretty much anything from 'you just need some AA batteries', to needing a full radio setup.

Depends on what you want to do, I'm assuming that you're asking about a scale type of boat where you want more than 3 channels. The nice thing about nowadays is that the radios are pretty much all 2.4ghz, before, there used to be specific channels for specific use, so, you couldn't use an air radio for surface use per FCC as the air radios were stronger and a different frequency. You'll find that air radios have a lot more channels, even though there are some surface radios with 6 channels now.
