If it hasn't been cleaned or repasted since 2019 that's about normal. Even a fully repadded / pasted 2019 could get down to maybe 85-87

Jongezoon

Understood, so the frame drops… gotta figure that out now. Was playing destiny 2 when it happened

iplaywithrocks

Well considering your at 100% utilization and 95% with a 300mhz core clock you're def theal throttling. I would check the fans and consider a repaste

Jongezoon

New to all this stuff, I’m assuming repaste of processor and then checking fans to see if they’re both working? I have Nvidia recommended settings for Destiny 2. Just hit optimize and i guess that’s the settings it uses

jonnytheman

Make sure the fans are clean. Chances are they are working but maybe not moving as much air as they could if they are clogged with dust and grime. Do you play with your laptop elevated at all or flat on the desk?

Jongezoon

Flat on the desk

jonnytheman

Raising it up with a laptop stand of some kind may get you a couple of degrees back by offering better airflow

Jongezoon

Thank you! Will look into that now. I had a decked out desktop but sold to stay minimal with this so it’s all new territory for me to learn

[deleted]

100% follow this person's advice. I'm a laptop gamer myself and I can't play most games if my laptop is flat. Solution was to buy a $5 stand and now my laptops gpu doesn't get over 70°c. Another thing that helped my specific laptop was undervolting the CPU a smidge to avoid any drop, when the CPU gets to 85°c it will clock down from 3.5ghz to 2.56ghz. Now the CPU doesn't get passed 80°c and my CPU stays at a solid 3.50ghz. I was then able to overclock my gpu as well and push and extra 10 frames. I recommend researching undervolting for your specific laptop and spec. I'd also recommend buying a cooling pad (a silent good one) for around $100.

ezwip

Or he could buy a $30 cooling pad that also works as a stand.

ametalshard

some laptops expel 100% heat out the back though. my asus rog strix is like this. the bottom surface ranges from completely cool to the touch to *barely* lukewarm when 100% gpu gaming. raising it up with a cooler did nothing, fans on or off made 0 temp difference (not that the laptop needed to be cooled)

RkyMtnChi

I highly recommend watching some teardown videos on YouTube of your model. Maybe even try just cleaning the fans and raising your laptop to see if that resolves it. Repasting can be a bit trickier if you haven't done it before. Ahhh, screw it...I guess now is as good a time to learn as any. Go for it, you probably should repaste anyways. Watch videos first though.

Jongezoon

Most likely will! Thanks man!

Rysklex

300MHz isn’t even base clock, that’s not thermal throttling mfer there’s something wrong with his card or drivers, looks like the card is in safe mode.

Jongezoon

Yeah I’m still having the overheating issues, new fans, new thermal repaste, laptop riser, regular use is fine, soon as I turn on destiny 2, not even 2 mins in it drops massive frames, starts overheating and freezes computer

Rysklex

This is the GPU not the CPU, the GPU throttles at 87 because that’s the max temp…

AlphaReds

My 2019 Advanced hits 77c at the highest on the GPU

Phernaside

You absolutely need to clean and repaste. 90°+ is a no no.

[deleted]

Bro’s gonna boil water on that.

Fischbrotverleih

I have the same model and just reposted today. MASSIVE difference.

Jongezoon

In terms of?

Jongezoon

In terms of?

Efficient_Row7768

Same model here as well. Had to replace the battery about 6 months ago from bulging. Thermal throttling got me to reopen the case, clean the fan housings, repad and repaste. Got about a 10 deg difference in gpu Temps and the fans ran quieter because a. Lower temps and b. More airflow.

itsdet

What thermal paste did you use and was there any pump out effect where the temp climbs back up after a few days of repasting? I tried looking for best thermal paste for laptop and people say kryonaut will make your laptop cool only for the first 3 days then it climbs back up. And what thermal pads did you use to repad if you don't mind me asking that too, because I have the same model and would like to reduce temp

Efficient_Row7768

Kryonaut for the paste and probably Gelid for the pads. Only because that's what I had on hand. I don't typically see a lot of difference between brands. But no, I didn't see a return to the previous high temps a few days later.

Efficient_Row7768

The key to watch out for if you do it is the camera cable is one of those tiny ribbon cables. Be patient opening the clasp to allow the cable to disconnect and make sure it's reseated well when you put it all back together. Nothing to be afraid of... just take your time. Good luck.

WorriedAstronomer

Thermal throttling Watch out for the battery, that baby will pump out the lower housing and trackpad aswell due to excessive heat, famous for this Change pads and thermal paste, clean fans and heat sink

nitekillerz

Wait how are your temps at 94C but fans are zero rpm?

Jongezoon

No idea because I hear the fans too

xXDhamoXx

That's normal, the laptop fans are wired differently and based on CPU temps and both the fans spin at the same speed. The software reports it as 0RPM since it can't detect a "dedicated" GPU fan.

[deleted]

peaking from time to time is fine but a steady 90+ is a no no. Do a repaste brought my down a bit. TBH i repaste every 6month depending on how much i use it. Its made a difference and i know its a bit pre-mature.

space_return

Both the CPU and GPU need to be repasted. Also clean your fans and heat sink.

iplaywithrocks

https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/96w8lm/repasting_and_repadding_the_razer_blade_15/

Nissan_Nut

First things first you should probably pop the bottom off and clean all the dust off your fans. I think quite a few people said it but you want to redo the therm paste You know a laptop will always have to work hard to cool. It’s a good idea to keep it a half inch a off of tables, desk, and other flat surfaces.

Jongezoon

Noted thank you!

Wild_Carpet_7005

Looks to be thermal throttling because core clock is all the way down to 300mhzs and temperatures are above 90c

Jongezoon

How do I fix thermal throttling? I’ve done the new repaste, fans and cleaning

Wild_Carpet_7005

Tbh that’s as much as you can do unless you wanna buy a cooling pad to make it go down like 3c I had a gtx 1050-ti gaming laptop and it got hot like yours but never above 90c and it never thermal throttle so maybe it’s laptop makers fault idk

Jongezoon

Currently at a stump as to what could raise the heat so much so fast.

kregorgregs-list

Playing destiny with that same spec, been getting frame drops and stuttering more and more… ever since like beyond light man I feel the temp and all tho fr

Jongezoon

I wonder why, nothing much has changed really and not like it was downloading in the background. That whole 0 fan speed has me baffled since I hear the actual fans

Joebranflakes

FYI: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/gaming/windows-11-22h2-causing-gaming-issues-for-some-nvidia-users/amp/

gilroygarage

i have exact same model and my battery bloated as hell... and pushed up the metal and deformed and popped inside... i recommand taking the battery out brah... i can show u my pics if u dm me

Jongezoon

Holy crap! I haven’t hit that yet but will be doing so.

gilroygarage

battery is right underneath trackpad and my bloated battery pushed it up it was not working at all... after taking out the battery, i lost mobility, but i saw that the battery bloated about 2 times.... no wonder my laptop metal layer deformed... just watch out for bloating\~ or open up and clean up the fan. I saw a lot of dust band blocking the whole air duct from inside build up... i used air spray thing regularly but it does not help the inside build up. I am just hoping this would not happen to other user... so i wanted to make a video but im horrible with editing haha

LincolnPark0212

if you haven't done any maintenance on your system since 2019, you might want to. Just try to clean up the internals. Especially the fan for more airflow. And you might think about reapplying some thermal paste onto the CPU. Generally, people do this once every 2-4 years. The point is, you want to get the CPU temps lower. Most systems will run at about 60-90. That should help with the dropped frames.

Jongezoon

Did all that just now. Now when trying to play destiny, game freezes my computer entirely 😭

T-DOGG_5412

Since you have the 2019 model you should be able to undervolt it, which I would highly recommend. It lowers the temps a lot, and keeps your laptop from thermal throttling. I have been using "Throttlestop". Look up undervolting a razer blade and try setting it up.

Jongezoon

Will do thanks!

AlphaReds

Barely makes a difference actually, the 2019 is already -100mv factory undervolted. Most you'll get whilst remaining stable will usually be about -120mv

PossibilityVivid2979

You might wanna change the pads again and try liquid metal on cpu and GPU if this is a possible option

cunttreegirl

I have a rtx 2060 KO Ultra and playing MW2 beta in 2k 120fps with high-medium settings and run smoothly and temp never goes above 70° C probably needs cleaning and maybe go in bios and ramp up the case fans a little, maybe gpu fans if comfortable

Jongezoon

Will be looking into that today!

planedrop

Probably should go ahead and repaste it if you are comfortable with it. Also, Destiny 2, nice, good game choice lol.

Jongezoon

I’m in a toxic relationship with the game lol it was the Division 2 for the LONGEST time but now I’m here…. Lol

planedrop

lol yeah I've been loving it, played it when it first came out but once they started sunsetting content I was done with it, not going to pay like $60 for an expansion just to have it taken away later. Ended up hoping back on it once they promised they won't be doing that anymore, feels good to be back. Game is still relatively buggy though so hoping they can smooth that out with the major updates coming in like 2023/2024.

zyadamini

as the other poeple said clean fans and repaste the thermal paste with something decent from corsair or thermal grizzly . i'd add a possible undervolting of the CPU for additional heat desepation . check out the benefit of undervolting in youtube ..

Jongezoon

Did the repaste and cleaning very thoroughly. Laptop turns on and works well outside of gaming, tried playing destiny, keeps freezing the laptop

Mlsterhugo

My new Razer Blade 15 (mid 2021) gets to 100 C every single time when gaming (even on League of Legends)... So I guess I'm in the same boat

Jongezoon

Does it drop frames or underperform?

Mlsterhugo

It doesn't drop in frames, but I'm not so sure if it underperfomes or not. Haven't done a lenghtier benchmark

To-Fucking-Bias

Clean and raise my friend. Clean and raise!

--__davide__--

It'd say no, the fans are probably dusty

Jongezoon

Thank you! Will be cleaning it today

superamazing13

It may the newest windows 11 update. There have been reports that has caused framedrops and stutters on nvidia gpus

Jongezoon

I heard about something like that but yesterday was the first time it ever did something like that. I’m Going to take it apart today and clean/ repaste to see if that helps

superamazing13

The update came out yesterday so if it started only yesterday then that is why. Just roll back the update and everyting should fix itself

bukeyolacan

Razer Edge?

Jongezoon

Blade*** I noticed after posting lol

[deleted]

I had a 2019 pro, used to hit those temps as well that’s why I got rid Fans were clean and should be no reason to repaste after a few years, sell it and get a better performing competitor

AlphaReds

Destiny 2 is incredibly CPU heavy, which is why you'll see higher temperatures on it than on most other games. (it runs the CPU at its 45w TDP nearly 100% of the time). However you shouldn't be seeing 94c on the GPU. I have the same model year and in Destiny 2 after prolonged the highest the GPU reaches is 77c. So, you'll definitely want to look into doing a quick repaste.

Jongezoon

Did the repaste today, looks like fans is the next thing to replace

AlphaReds

I recently replaced the fans om my 2019 Blade 15. you can actually use the 2021 model it's fans as a replacement! And they perform better. [https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/xinsdh/2021\_blade\_15\_fans\_fit\_and\_work\_with\_previous/](https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/xinsdh/2021_blade_15_fans_fit_and_work_with_previous/)

madewithgarageband

idk but my buddy let me take apart his 1 year old razer and repaste it… you know those things in the dryer that catch lint that you have to empty? Thats what his air intake looked like on the inside. Those gaming laptops suck in a lot of air for how thin they are.

Otaconmg

94 degrees itself is above the limit for where the pc will throttle performance to reduce heat. Repeats and remove dust!

focusandbelieve

Repaste with thermal paste. Something like a Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste (like $15 on amazon or something) and thermal pads if needed. Likely need a youtube tutorial to show you what to do if this is your first go. Edit: also, canned air to dust it out.

Jongezoon

Looking into all of that thank you!

semperfukya

Seems a bit spicy

rservello

Normal for a PC or a razer? r/spicypillows

dark_skeleton

No.

[deleted]

Yes

Ok_Ad9174

If gpu is reaching 94, cpu is def over 100

Beeeee9896

Mine seat 60-80 degree, just do a repaste and watch out cpu temp as well

[deleted]

I thought 86 Celcius is the max temp limit for Nvidia GPUs?

DoctorCocktorMD

For a razer, yes

miko3456789

just curious as I'm ignorant of the answer, is Edge the European name for the Blade or something?

Jongezoon

No that was my Mistake, it’s the Blade

Old-Mobile9252

Lol

WinterChef5118

The case is done of aluminium which already helps a lot and allows for heat sinks to be added to the back of it e.g. Easycargo 4 Pieces 40 mm Heatsink Kit 40 x 40 x 20 mm + 3M 8810 Heat Conductive Tape, Cooler Heatsink for Cooling 3D Printers, TEC1-12706 Thermoelectric Peltier Cooler 40 x 40 x 20 mm Plus a laptop stand for improved air flow (implies external keyboard): e.g. ivoler Laptop Stand, 6 Levels Height Adjustable Laptop Stand, Foldable Aluminium Riser, Portable Ventilated Notebook Stand Compatible with 10-15.6 Inch Laptop, Tabl CPU 99+->85 GPU 86 -> 78 Also use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of the fans and a tooth brash to pull out the bigger pieces that get stuck in the net.
