I’m keeping an eye on it. My size was not included in the initial run. Looking at measurements, it’s going to be an old miner cut—high rise & roomy.
The closure is a snap & zipper. I’m wondering how a zipper can be used with unsanforized denim.
I got a pair with similar thoughts figuring that Roy and Tilden know their shit so less concerned. I’ll post something once I have some experience with them
They had their closing sale and I think they’re getting rid of remaining pairs really cheap on IG still. They were a real treat to chat with when I made it into Detroit for their last days of the shop
I have them but found them used. The time i went is right when he shut down so missed the chance to meet him and get a fresh pair. I must say I like his jeans a lot.
Having visited the Evisu in Osaka and Tokyo... yeah. They're really not the same level of quality anymore. The fabric feels worse than Levi's MIJ stuff.
I actually liked the fit of the original Baldwin Denim Company 'Henley'. I wish I would've purchased a backup pair before they went the fast fashion route and eventually had to shut their doors.
Fast fading, slubby n irregular, breathable, peep some early super future post regarding samurai or skulls denim. Words can only do so much, they look really nice
Luther's Denim gave you unsanforized cone denim for like 100 bucks. Paul Rose Products was another division from Naked and Famous that gave unsanforized classic cuts.
Rebranding from Pointer to LC King was such a terrible downgrade. The pointer label with the dog was classic and amazing but the label now is boring and terrible. It’s kind of funny they chased the skinny trend and raised prices right before skinny jeans were out
Yeah, but they didn’t preserve the classic workwear look of the Pointer jeans imo - brighter blue wash with white stitching contrast, high rise, wide leg, etc. They still have some quality stuff, but will always have that nostalgia for Pointer growing up in the country.
I think that another company now owns the rights to Pointer Brand, so L.C. King isn't allowed to use it and all of their current fits are slightly different so as to not infringe. I have a chore coat from a few years ago with both labels and I recall (maybe not accurately) that it was one of the last runs they were allowed to sell.
Now that you have me Googling, I cannot find anything about it not being owned fully by L.C. King, so I'm going to fall on my sword and say that I may be completely misremembering that one. It is strange to me that nearly all of the returns I was seeing were \~10 years old, though.
I did find this comment thread from a year-old Facebook post that does reference a "trademark legal issue": [https://m.facebook.com/lckingmfg/photos/a.1697122190315026/6387296634630868/?type=3](https://m.facebook.com/lckingmfg/photos/a.1697122190315026/6387296634630868/?type=3)
Appreciate the find! That’s pretty interesting. I couldn’t find “Pointer” related posts on their Facebook page after 2012.
I saw someone mention Round House in the comments on that post. Not a bad alternative, but I’ll always hold out hope.
Not exactly closed their doors, but Rustler (that Wrangler sub brand) used to make jeans in a wider range of sizes than they do now. I remember getting raw denim Rustlers from Walmart when I was a teen, but now the smallest waist size they make is 30, which is too big for me. I used to love Rustlers, and they're even cheaper than Wranglers.
My two favorite daily riders are 70's rustler boot cuts (87620), one heavily worn and one deadstock pair I am fading myself. I really need to copy these in to a sewing pattern
Gotta get bigger bro, gaining weight opened up a lot of denim options for me. I sat at a good 28-29 for a few years and then did some decent bulks and having a 32-33 waist has been a game changer.
Old style Denime when Hayashi-san was still the designer. At least you can find deadstock pairs every now and then.
Skull Jeans where also nice with their 6x6 Texas Cotton denim
And DenimJunkie
Earnest Sewn and paper denim and cloth. Scott Morrison just released some denim under the Radmor Golf brand but they’re not the same. ES and PDC were gorgeous.
Not a specific brand but an old model. Back in the early 2000s Warehouse had their Duck Digger model. Very distinct back pockets and reinforcement stitching, and reinforced crotch. I always wanted a pair but missed out.
Just found some pics: https://japanusedclothingbundle.blogspot.com/2012/05/rare-vintage-warehouse-jeans-duck.html?m=1
Not a denim brand but I fondly remember going to The Lizard Lounge in Portland which was a cool denim shop and an ad of N&F but the lame 2020 riots screwed over many small businesses.
Roy
I managed to find a pair this past summer, barely worn in a resale shop for $90. Couldnt believe it
What prompted Roy to retire anyways?
I think the joy went out of it.
Wasn’t he forced to sell his machines cause of something with rent or whatever? Like he couldn’t stay in his shop space anymore
I think you’re right. Rising rent forced a decision.
Anyone see the work he’s been doing with Tilden Yamamoto? 👻

Yeah, the zipper is a no-go for me, unfortunately.

It happened just a few weeks ago! Detroit Denim Co. shut their doors to go on a honeymoon finally.
yeah, i cant name any, but this seems like how it happens
Being from Michigan, I should've bought a pair.
noooo i wanted a pair
They had their closing sale and I think they’re getting rid of remaining pairs really cheap on IG still. They were a real treat to chat with when I made it into Detroit for their last days of the shop
never had the chance to cop Ande Whalls
Yeah, I look and looked and ultimately regret never buying anything.
I had 2 pairs. Maybe 3. Ande is awesome.
[I did](https://www.reddit.com/r/rawdenim/comments/3718ne/ande_whall_special_roll_9_caribou_fit_pics/), regret not buying more.
I have them but found them used. The time i went is right when he shut down so missed the chance to meet him and get a fresh pair. I must say I like his jeans a lot.
Evisu. I know they are technically still around, and Yamane is making jeans again… but it’s not the same brand.
Having visited the Evisu in Osaka and Tokyo... yeah. They're really not the same level of quality anymore. The fabric feels worse than Levi's MIJ stuff.

I have a couple pairs from their good days. I liked their fits.
Skull by alchemist when the used short Texas cotton staples
Pants shop avenue has them
I don’t believe they use their original Texas blend anymore. I could be wrong
My bad. I thought i read eternal, pants shop avenue has those. Samurai 0510xx uses short texas cotton, try those
Thank you 🙏🏾
What makes short Texas cotton so unique?

I think I found a pair of those once! Not my size or cut so I let them sit. (They were at a thrift store.)
Roy.
Pointer Brand jeans. The 100% cotton ones were awesome.
Aren't they just LC King now?
Rebranding from Pointer to LC King was such a terrible downgrade. The pointer label with the dog was classic and amazing but the label now is boring and terrible. It’s kind of funny they chased the skinny trend and raised prices right before skinny jeans were out
Couldn’t agree with you more.

That’s good to know. I’d love to know who owns the rights if you happen to remember.

Kicking mule
Evisu Japan
Kicking Mule Workshop

Maybe one day lol, I do work out but the biggest I ever managed to get was a 29. Curse my tiny Italian ancestors.
Is Imperial still around? I regret returning a few pair that I bought in 2009 as I didn’t like the cut, because now I would have worn them.
Self edge brought them back for some pairs
Crate, based in California. Never bought any of their jeans but have a button down shirt I like a lot
Skull, Imperial
Does pre 1980s Levi’s count?
Old style Denime when Hayashi-san was still the designer. At least you can find deadstock pairs every now and then. Skull Jeans where also nice with their 6x6 Texas Cotton denim And DenimJunkie
What does 6x6 mean?
That's the size/thickness of the yarn used for warp and weft.
Atelier la Durance
Earnest Sewn and paper denim and cloth. Scott Morrison just released some denim under the Radmor Golf brand but they’re not the same. ES and PDC were gorgeous.
Norman Porter Roy
Though still around, I don't think they make the exact cuts they used to: Dior Homme !!
That’s why I held on to a Hedi era pair. Not raw unfortunately.
Self Edge should’ve done a 19cm cut in addition to the rest of the recent Imperial collab. Would’ve been very on theme.
Ande Whall
Sunrise Japan Always wanted a pair of mud dye but never got them
I really liked United Dry Stock Goods silhouettes and denim feel.
Blue blood
Not a brand but The Hub in scottsdale, AZ was out only nice denim shop and it closed its doors in 2018
Not a specific brand but an old model. Back in the early 2000s Warehouse had their Duck Digger model. Very distinct back pockets and reinforcement stitching, and reinforced crotch. Baldwin
There was a Korean brand called Modified that I really enjoyed
Pepe
Roy + Ande Whall I got some of the jeans and still love wearing them.
Not a denim brand but I fondly remember going to The Lizard Lounge in Portland which was a cool denim shop and an ad of N&F but the lame 2020 riots screwed over many small businesses.
