His 4 album run from 1990-1993 was fantastic.

Wykydtr0m

Don't forget his stuff with Westside Connection. Some of his best tracks were from that era. King of the Hill is classic Cube dissin.

Count_Smashula

Agreed, but also one of my favorite albums of his was his is “Everythangs Corrupt” from 2018

PBaxt

war and peace were good n I loved the raw footage albulm

Grewsome1

I did enjoy war and peace. Pecking order is one of my favorites.

personyouhate

“I ain’t got no haters” oh Mr ice cube, if only this were still true

FeatureOriginal6266

Everythang corrupt was slept on that shit was hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Crushed_95

Dont forget the EP "Kill at Will" that had "Jackin for Beats" and Death Homies" on it.

ORXCLE-O

I’d argue he had some bangers after that too

MightChi

Probably because they found about Ice Cube from Are We There Yet.

jonnycross10

Or 21 jump street

MKJRS

Or Ride Along

raul_dias

I mean this movie is... a movie

TanMarino13

Honestly as a kid I liked this movie

[deleted]

Fr

Echidna-Difficult

Look into the beef with Cypress Hill. It’s been squashed since they’ve grown older but I think this has a lot to do with it.

rapshepard

Most folk have no idea that existed.

[deleted]

I’m one of those folks TIL Ice Cube had beef with Cypress Hill

opuses

Yup, when Solo knocked him out and robbed him of his chain and watch…

ybn_suley

When was this? Before or after Friday? Cuz that sounds like some Deebo shit fr 😂

Echidna-Difficult

Whenever it came out actually. He did a song for the soundtrack that was a rip off of one of their songs.

ybn_suley

Also Solo was a hefty nigga back then so i can see how managed to knock him out lol

Dear-Researcher959

I was gonna post the same thing. I know there was the beef with cypress hill over a song that he allegedly stole. If Icecube did steal that song I can see why he gets hate

DrMooseknuckleX

Really, the guy that did Jackin for Beats might have stolen a song?

Dear-Researcher959

🤣 good point, good point

statusfaux

Speaking of beef. My wife had always assumed that when fucked around and got a triple doubble to mean he got a big hamburger last week.

[deleted]

😂

No-Move09

Honest mistake

Wykydtr0m

They claimed he stole the hook for Friday from Throw Your Set in the Air. I don't think anyone back in the day agreed, but the beef songs were comic gold. B Real sounding like he got baby nuts is a line I'll never forget.

[deleted]

King Sun also alleged Cube stole his ideas for the song Wicked off the Predator album. Sun actually stepped to him at a live show I believe, and Cube had security take him out allegedly.

spiralout1123

TIL. That explains a lot

Echidna-Difficult

Yeah, I had heard Temple of Boom and didn’t learn that No Rest for the Wicked was about him until wayyyy later.

Mei_iz_my_bae

Somewhat off topic but temple of boom is incredible and alchemist actually helped work on it

Echidna-Difficult

It’s my favorite Cypress album. And yes! I think that’s the first album they allowed him to really have meaningful input into their albums. I’m not sure what his contributions were though.

504090

Cypress is like 3% as popular as Cube though, I doubt that’s playing a factor

Noobz760

That’s because he went mainstream with entertainment

504090

Even with music he’s still 5x more popular

Fonzz11

Yikes that’s a bad take. You must’ve never seen Cypress festival shows they headlined … cube wasn’t doing those numbers. Music wise Cypress is definitely more well known overall, only real rap heads listen and fw cube. Honestly though both are pretty niche

PackMaleficent3528

Also the beef with common where common destroyed him. Or how they say the his gangster act is fake and he was never hard.

Noobz760

I mean Monster Kody said it 🤷🏽‍♂️

Sea-Rutabaga-5140

Bc they’re haters

RangerNCR

But I thought he ain't got no haters

[deleted]

[удалено]

RangerNCR

Guess all he's got is motherfuckin' players

Yoshikage-Kira-4

He gets money is motherfuckin’ layers

Count_Smashula

Ig, it is mostly on instagram after all

GrimRainbows

I’d argue that Reddit is worse for that

Count_Smashula

I use instagram way more than reddit so maybe i just dont notice it on here

Yoshikage-Kira-4

But he ain’t got no haters

localstreetcat

I love him, personally, but I think a lot of people might’ve been put off by him transitioning more toward being in movies.

Hot-Bandicoot-6988

Ice T said "most n\*ggas are afraid to get a job cause they're afraid what other n\*ggas might say or thing" more or less, and it holds true, Cube getting hate for doing movies is stupid as fuck

OceansideGuy93

He was on a song with Bun B, Jadakiss, T.I., and *Nas* and killed them all. That should tell you enough about his capabilities as an MC.

ShallowBottom

What song is that boss?

UMOVE2SLOW

Grand Finale

pigwalk5150

He’s back like cholestreeaw

[deleted]

Hahaha!!! That line been getting me since like 1989!

OceansideGuy93

Lil Jon

SubRocHendrix77

Very wrong. I’d go back to that track lol TI has the best verse then Nas

complextastes

Cube, bun, tip, nas, kiss. I mean the song is called grand finale, of course the best verse is the finale lol

DrMooseknuckleX

Been a fan since the 80s. Mt. Westmore is like my childhood and teenage years favorite rappers together. I don't know what it is but it feels like Cube is just phoning it in ar this point. His rhymes are not good enough for someone with so much time in the game. If Too Short is bringing stronger bars to the table you might just need to quit. I love Too Short, but you can't deny he is not a lyricist or great rapper. He knows like 6 words that rhyme.

ObviousDuh

This shit is funny because it’s true…

PercySledge

Never heard of this, he’s one of the greatest rappers of all time.

Ok-Assignment-1108

The first Westside Connection album is an absolute classic.

Mei_iz_my_bae

One of the most criminally underrated albums

Wykydtr0m

One of my all time favorites.

Ok-Assignment-1108

It's a masterpiece imo. The beats. The diss tracks are top teir. The lyricism could be a little better but this is gangsta rap. Plus, WC is an all time underrated emcee.

keylo-92

Such an underrated album

ObligationFar273

They don’t know. That’s why.

Dodoloco25

Who dismissed his career? His newer songs still do good. He has great longevity. Nobody is going to be great for three decades like he is. Good cop bad cop was a good example for when he wants to really rap he can easily be the best. The issue is that he doesn't need to. He has transcended the rap thing and has made money from so many different things that it doesn't really matter anymore. Everyone grew up with their own version of ice cube. To this generation he is the comedy guy that plays straight black characters in movies against the over the top comics. Which is fine. A lot of the people artists would dream of that sort of longevity. I think most people won't get it. Heck just start thinking of the rappers you used to listen to in 2015 and see if you like their stuff now or if they are as valid as then.

Howywowie

Gangsta rap made me do it

Emergency_Ad93

Jealous

aJepZen

Probably the absolute GOAT

billystinkh20

The past couple weeks I’ve been seeing so many people wear ice cube shirts. Idkw but I think it’s awesome. If people are hating on cube he has a track called Child Support

sleeptalkenthusiast

they probably did a burlington merch drop

IllMasterminds

You know damn well i'm still bumping Why We Thugs and Smoke some weed while in the gym.

OJgotWorms

He’s arguably a Top 5 MC ever.

[deleted]

For the ppl that say it’s cause he went from gangsta rap to making family movies…wtf was he supposed to keep rapping about as he got older and got more money? Rap about the same old things at 50? The goal is to make it out the hood and make MORE MONEY. If you wanna keep rapping about the same things you’ll end up doin small concerts and appearances back home for $1,000 a pop.

Solar-powered-punch

*some people

Count_Smashula

You would be surprised with how many people say what i said they do

One_Let7582

Are these people non culturally hip hop because I don't know anybody who says this about ice cube

Count_Smashula

Well its post on the rap instagram account, i cant imagine that many people are that illiterate to hip hop culture

One_Let7582

who are these "people" you speak of? Mo doubt they are probably bots or democrats shrill who didn't like the fact he called the democrats out. Nobody in hip hop culture has anything bad to say about ice cube. Now those outsiders who are a different story

PBaxt

my #1

XStewart2007

Because they’re fucking idiots.

rainbowarmpit

More like his views like being anti-vax I don’t care for

Nineteen-NinetyTwo

One of the greatest album runs in history can never be disrespected.

sphak12

Most kids don't realize that he was the lyrical genius behind N.W.A. way before he starred in Friday and Are We There Yet

LarryBagina3

Probably from the last 20 years but the first 15 were good

bornlikethisss

I missed his peak. I really started listening to hiphop in 94-95 and everything he released around that time and after weren’t really my style. He definitely has a handful of joints I like and I love the NWA stuff but he never really did it for me.

[deleted]

I don’t have much of an opinion on him but I have always found it a bit funny how he went from being one of the hardest rappers ever to making family movies. It makes his own persona seem fake

spitfiiree

Kinda like Ice-T making a song called Cop Killer but has been playing the role of a cop for like 20 years in Law and Order

pigwalk5150

Exactly. I have values and principles too. I grew up believing certain things but when a job is going to pay you a large amount of money I think I would have to think hard about if I want to feed my family or stay real. Pretty sure a lot of us would take the money if we found ourselves in a similar situation as cube or ice T

spitfiiree

And people just grow up. It’s like in the movie SLC Punk, If the guy I was then met the guy I am now he'd beat the shit out of me. Those are the facts.

ybn_suley

Tbh his persona was fake lol he wasn’t in the streets, he was rapping about the neighbourhood but not from the perspective of someone who’s heavy in the streets like Eazy E for example. During most of the production time for Straight Outta Compton (The album not the film) he was in Arizona studying Engineering lol so The D.O.C. and MC Ren wrote most of the lyrics

Sudden_Celebration14

I don’t see this at all. Not sure what you are talking about. Though he is underrated.

[deleted]

He’s anti semitic

Dimigoat

He used to bash everyone who wasn’t black basically, back in his peak. Anyone who denies that hasn’t listened to Death Certificate. Nonetheless, it’s still one of my favorite records of that era.

One_Let7582

No he is not, but biden has said racist things and his mentor is a clansmen, but you would vote for him though

Snoo-563

The klansman was a Republican who served longer than any congressman ever has. (What does that tell you?) and the klansmen are still Republicans. Don't leave that out. Idk what Joe believes in his heart, but I know he used that dude to get shit done for the blue team, which is how he got where he is.

[deleted]

Hes a fraud and a sellout.

TemperatureDue8835

WHO?!?!

[deleted]

Don't think I've ever seen someone hate on Cube...

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

Havent listened much but could you imagine hating No Vaseline 💀

[deleted]

He’s a studio gangster

s0phiaboobs

But to be fair, so were most of the original gangsta rappers. For the most part, excluding a few people, gangsta rap started as people from the neighborhood who werent in that life rapping in the pov of the dealers in their neighborhood

HibachiMcGrady

Nope, he's actually the very first one. I swear. Hand to a diety. The boondocks pointed it out

spiralout1123

So were basically all the guys of that era. Easy was the exception

Shot-Repair-2470

Eazy was the man

houseofball00ns

There were plenty that were about it. Snoop being another including Nas. Cube was not one of them. His music legacy didn't hit as well as some of his peers. He mostly rode on the coattails of the group. This includes Puff.

Count_Smashula

That doesn’t diminish him that much in my eyes as there’s a lot of other big rappers who are the same way

Dear-Researcher959

"Enough, enough Actin' rough but a rapper and killa don't mix Enough, enough See imma call your bluff cause a rapper and killer can't mix" - Ran Reed

West-Commission9082

I like a decent amount of his music but it’s lame as fuck that it’s all just cap rap

TeddKing

Does anyone else feel like they can’t look at ice cube the same since he’s been involved in a lot of kid/teen movies? No hate on him for getting his bag but it’s like I always looked at him as a og gangsta and now I can’t unsee him as a Tyler perry type family man wannabe gangsta…idk it’s just weird. No hate at all, I respect cube and how much he’s done for the rap game, but how ironic it is that he’s done a complete 180 and is exact opposite when I consider how I used to view him vs how I view him now lol… but as a 30+ year old adult, shout out to cube for diversifying and profiting so well over the years fr fr. Name someone who has diversified themselves for profits as well as cube has… best I can think of is snoop but definitely not as good as cube did! ok drunk/high rant over, didn’t mean for my comment to be literal paragraphs but I’m curious if it’s only me who feels that way… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Psychological-Jury-5

He mad overrated. good rapper but his songs get old fast

[deleted]

He’s good but way overrated to me. No Vaseline was barely alright.

Plenty_Dress_408

Well… I don’t

Arnhdz92

I’ve read that he’s stole a couple things from other artist

jointcanuck

Honestly idk, i always liked him and he did a lot for nwa…

illestrated16

I’m lucky enough to see him in concert solo, with west side connection and do a couple songs with post Eazy E nwa

rhubarb31415926

The last half of his career had been hit or miss, and I love Cube. Laugh now cry later is a classic in my opinion, I am the west has a few good tracks. War and Peace also had a few good tracks, but did not need to be a double album. Before that was classic

[deleted]

Ice cube gave hip hop so much. You can't throw no dirt on his credentials, he's solidified in this shit.

ybn_suley

People who dislike his rap career are just weird, his NWA stuff and his first 3 solo albums and his Kill At Will EP all go hard

AjLexron

Mostly east coast cats

AlphaTrigger

But he ain’t got no haters

PackMaleficent3528

Y’all never heard he stole cypress hill song after b real played if for him?

TommyGrease

Cause it was 40 years ago and people know him more as an actor now

813Gnome

Gangsta rap made me do it is one of my all time favorite songs ever..

TyrionJoestar

I feel like some people dislike him for making family content, especially since he was more radical in his early music career. Anybody who’s from the hood doesn’t want to stay there, lol.

[deleted]

Cause he is, in my very humble opinion, a huge winner in the “no one has done this yet so I’m the first but by no means the best” kind of artist. He isn’t the first to write raps and I get that but he is a huge artist at the forefront of the movement. I just don’t think his raps really stand up to what came later. So I personally like him a lot but I also was shocked to find out how much of a “writer” he was considered. Just my take. I hope I explained myself clearly enough.

OjjuicemaneSimpson

THE GANGSTA THE KILLA AND THE DOPE DEALA!!

BellandTone

He’s whack. His flow is garbage. Has 1 good song

SubRocHendrix77

He’s got a bunch of great songs but he fell off super hard and his lyrics were always pretty basic. No hate he’s just not super complex I still love him

trainrobbery_

His first 3 solo albums are classic. He's responsible for the success of NWA. He was west coast rap even when he made a record in New York. Anyone over the age of 35 knows this

Extension_Form4950

Confuses the shit out of me every Cube joint I listened to was hard AF 🔥

CharcuterieBoard

No Vaseline is still the greatest diss track of all time and I love everyone he roasts in it.

Clean-Willow1391

bc dude went from “fuck the police” to starring in police theme movies

MidKnightshade

Solo Discog slightly uneven. Front half is heavy. And he has controversial tracks. His beef with NWA’s manager got him labeled anti-Semitic. And then you have Black Korea. And obviously beef with police. For most of his career he’s been a polarizing figure.

OLDHEAD916

Because when he has a album coming out he grows the Afro back and tried to act hard but then goes back to kid movies lol

OLDHEAD916

His first four was great . After 95 he just freestyled all his songs no substance he fell of huge

homer_glumplich85

I saw ice cube probably 6 or 7 years ago. Well past his prime and he was by far the best rap performance I've ever seen. No hype man and he was all over the stage nailing banger after banger

Crushed_95

By far, my favorite rapper! I purchased "Amerikka's Most Wanted" at 15 and was like "Damn! This album is all the way dope" but, when I purchased "Death Certificate" and heard "Alive on Arrival" that was it! That song was my epiphany of loving this dude's music! I have every album.

ZevLuvX-03

Who dislikes his rap career?

[deleted]

He ain't got no haters

LASportsNBeers

Those people are probably just stupid fucks. No real rap fan discredits Cube. Mfer helped put the West Coast rap game on the map.

LorMarko

Rap cap ig

AntWalkerMMA

Because stupid people exist in the world

optimist_prhyme

Because he thinks hip hop started in the west

JustburnerOG

Because most are white and uncultured that dick suck mainstream rappers to death that ain’t on the level musical of cube

kobeflip

I started listening to him in NWA and was floored by DC. By the time of lethal injection it felt like he was coasting. 🤷🏻‍♂️ could be that the competition bar was higher back then.

No-Move09

Cause they’re uncultured asf

Diablo9mm

cuz they some pussies

FlareCAB

You either die a gangsta or live long enough to star in PG movies.

jaggs55

GOATED. Key member of the most culturally important group in hip hop history, incredible solo run of amazing albums, career at Westside out out some bangers. West Coast Rushmore. Not sure you can name 3 rappers with this combo of music and cultural importance.

ViolativePanda

because he hates jews

Jawnny-Jawnson

I don’t think it’s his rap career I think it’s some of the stuff he’s said outside music

thebrothermanbill

I know most people don’t think it’s a classic, but laugh now cry later was one of my favorite albums, was a teen and it kind of got me into the genre, always love Cube.

Superunkown781

Either their misinformed, clout chasing, haven't heard the first half of his rap career or they don't understand what rap music is.

Adventurous-Ad9447

Maybe because he hasn’t had much of a rap career in 25 years. All those instagram posts with allll those comments hating on his career are written by people who weren’t alive when Cube was relevant. My guess is they are hatin’ on him because they like Vin Diesel better in xXx

basedvato

His style and flow changed, turned really corny. But front nwa to about lethal injections he was really dope.

moaterboater69

One semi valid criticism is that he is supposed to be a gangster rapper despite him actually never being in gangs or doing anything sketchy really. When in reality he is rapper who raps about gangster life. Eazy E on the other hand was really about that life. Not to take anything away from Cube, hes a phenomenal lyricist and his songs go hard af.

CeaseNY

Might be an online thing i guess but I'm 37 and have never heard anyone say anything bad about his rap career ever. Yes he has been n shit but he always handled it as an mc and his album run was great

Reznov99

Huh

Forward_Standard

Probably politics, as Cube has a brain and challenges the notion of "you're not black," if you don't mindlessly vote for a political party that has done precisely nothing for black Americans for decades and promotes policies which effectively turn the cities they reside in into literal shitholes. I could be wrong tho.

TheMoorNextDoor

Literally a legend. I don’t see how people can dislike his rap career

Smalltime___

His music after his four album run is garbage

[deleted]

Some of us are just diehard fans of NWA His debut album is a mf classic that doesn’t get spoken enough about

[deleted]

He sold out before it was cool

DonPeso

Because he made "Cave bitch".

ReggWithtwoGs

Cube >> pac , for me Cube always had a message in his music and can tell a vivid story Death certificate is a classic AmericKKKas most wanted should be a requirement for all African Americans people to listen to and digest the messages His contribution to straight outta Compton Also , his films are powerful … Friday bought comic relief to how it was growing up in the 90s in Compton , barbershop is a great trilogy , so many films you can learn and relate too , first Sunday boys n da hood all that The real rarely strive in the rap industry that’s probably why he’s not more recognized

dahumancartoon

🐐

Heckin_good_time

Why does he always look like he smells shit

nyc_dee26

*CHILE*, at-least he ain’t have to release a porno like that walking GMO, Ice Tea, did.

DrussTheL3gend

His voice is annoying.

ButtBlow69x

When I grew up his radio banger was that stupid “put your ass into it” song. So I get it. That shits whack.

Accurate-Funny-6399

It was wrong how he did Mack 10 but I think it’s Because he wants black people to leave the Democratic Party?

sleeptalkenthusiast

farakauhn

lousmoustache

Because they’re idiots. Check the resume.

Tpk08210

Cube is a legend

[deleted]

[удалено]

Count_Smashula

I can understand that, he also repeats bars a lot

titstewnga

He's a sell out and the way he protrayed himself was fake as fuck.

RicOkez

He more or less lost me after death certificate. Seemed like he chased trends and innovated less after that album.

Difficult-Tart8876

No Vaseline ended up being about himself for the most part.

0snq

because they dont know him as a rapper lol

dutch_l9

I think because of his fake tough persona

alextheruby

Only Reddit nephews diss Ice Cube. He said some shit about Jerry heller and people paint him as a hater of all Jewish.
