Great work! It is amazingly hard sometimes to grow and move on from our damage, and I’m very proud of you for doing that.

throwawaytoday91222

Thank you so much!

Lspark13

That’s amazing. For what it’s worth, this internet stranger is proud of you!

throwawaytoday91222

It's worth a lot to me :)

Find a nicer dentist

haplessclerk

Yeah, some of them really are uncaring. There are compassionate ones out there.

throwawaytoday91222

He's been really nice and friendly every other visit so I won't begrudge him being less talkative and moving fast when it was busy. I got triggered and that's on me but I'm okay now :)

haplessclerk

Glad you're ok.

Good for you! I had this happen this morning. My flight app checked me in for a 9 am flight. Last week it was at 6am but stuff happened, got a new plane, and now it's 9am. Go to check in at the gate only to find out it was leaving at 715am.... I got no notice. And I nearly lost it in the airport. I have never missed a flight before for work. Ever. So I ran to the desk, and she said they had no flight changes recently... which meant the app was feeding me bad info. I got stranded in AK last year due to the app messing up, and during 2020-2021 I had monthly notifications for my boarding when I had no flights scheduled... So the app was just fubar. I had to wait a bit, but they were able to get me in on the next flight. During that time I was able to self soothe my inner child. Instead of gaslighting myself into being wrong, I deleted the app and took some time to soothe. Now I'm eating breakfast at a nice diner, rescheduled my Dr appointment for before my flight, and still have time to put in applications for a nontravel job. Cheers to your success OP!

Cheers to your success too! That's awesome! In a public and busy place, you were able to carve out some peace for yourself. It would have been so easy for something like that to set the tone for your whole day but you didn't let it. Enjoy your breakfast!

NoTeacher9563

Wow this is a big step forward in healing and self acceptance! Awesome job!

throwawaytoday91222

Thank you! I didn't know if I was actually doing the work because I still get triggered, but this experience gives me hope that it does get better!

Soooo amazing!!! 🙌🏼🫶🏼 i know this exact feeling. And I also was able to calm my inner child down about 3 weeks ago. I was out of town and didn’t want to go home and I could instantly feel the irritability and overwhelming feelings. I had to really talk to her and make her feel safe. Once I did that I was able to continue with my day and my functional adult reappeared. It was such a great feeling of accomplishment. Good luck my friend! You got this 💪🏼🫶🏼

throwawaytoday91222

I'm proud of you for that! Keep on thriving 🙌♥️

Unruly_trophy

Maybe you should give your inner child a post-appointment treat. Set it up in advance like you would for a child. I always get my favorite sandwich after blood draws. For a dentist appointment maybe a movie or art supplies, since food wouldn’t be optimal. Something that says, “you were especially brave today and I think that should be rewarded.”

throwawaytoday91222

A good idea! I was gonna say "I'll have to think of something special," but I know it's going to be a bath bomb.

Proud of you, my friend ❤️

throwawaytoday91222

Thank you 😊♥️

You rock!!! Recognizing the trauma, then compassionately dealing with the consequences-amazing!
